Sorcery Is for Saps is a Books/Roleplaying/Adventure game from Choice of Games LLC, first launched in 13th October 2016.
It’s rated 12+ and currently has 20+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Sorcery Is for Saps Stand Out

As an apprentice sorcerer, you should never steal your master's identity. But what if that's the only way to save the kingdom?

"Sorcery Is for Saps" is a 200,000-word interactive fantasy novel by Hilari Bell and Anna-Maria Crum, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Will your powers save the cursed king–or will you turn traitor and seize the throne yourself? You can probably break a simple kindness curse, but there are dark forces at work and you may be in over your head before you can say “Abracadabra.”

Throw in your lot with scheming councilors, the attractive heir, or even go to work for the invaders. But whether you choose to save the king or your own neck, one thing is clear—this is your big chance!

‪Magic, power, or true love—which will you choose? In "Sorcery Is for Saps," you'll find it's easier than waving a wand.

• ‪Be a hero or turn traitor, seduced by a sexy spy.
• ‪Play as male or female, gay, straight, or bi.
• ‪Steal a rival wizard's inventions.
• ‪Fight the maniacal, mechanical, magical monkey.
• Power up for politics, succeed at sorcery, or just get really, really rich.
• ‪Trade barbs with your snarky familiar. Or will you kow-tow to a sarcastic ferret?
• End up as a sorcerer, a royal councilor, a villain, or a mouse. (Literally. You can be turned into a mouse.)

This Books game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Community Insight:

We havent bought the full game yet because Im broke rn but the story so far is very good we like how you can choose different options and get different outcomes and like whoever 10/10 would recommend.

We thought this game was very fun, but a little pricey. $6 is a lot, and Choice of Games should lower the price. But if you love fantasy, the money is definitely worth it. The story line is incredibly enjoyable, and Im actually playing it for the 5th time and still getting different results. One thing we didnt like (this will be a spoiler so dont read on if you havent finished the game) was that you couldnt have a romantic relationship with Lyle/Lily. In the end, he/she always refuses you. We really liked Lyle/Lily and we wish you could end up with her/him. We wish you could end up with Camille too. Itd be cool to see what happened if you chose the dark one in the love square. As much as Im criticizing this game, we did love it and we will recommend it to our friends.

Actions have no consequences, failure is impossible, and the writing is painful. No matter what you do, youre really just pressing next.

Even if youre not into sorcery or stories like that, this app makes it fun and interesting. Highly recommend if youre looking for a great story to fill your time with.

We started playing through this in our free time, but we were quickly sucked in. This is a marvelous read.

Really enjoyed the tone (myth inc. Or princess bride tongue and cheek). However, was more on rails (or at least the rails were more visible) than our favorite COG titles. Second play through felt very similar to first despite trying to make different decisions.

WHY is the ferret named fergie we cant stop singing fergalicious send help.

We played a male Magic-person who got to marry the handsome prince, do some awesome magic, argue with a witty ferret and save the kingdom. We're happy as can be. Highly recommend. :).

We've recently started playing these games, and Sorcery is for Saps doesn't disappoint! We didn't want to put the game down because we were so absorbed in the story and didn't know what to expect next. Our favorite part was the world-building, and we wish there was more expanding on it. A sequel maybe? Lol. Our only suggestion would be to make the romance a bit more prominent because the romantic aspect of the ending is a bit sudden. The romantic interests don't seem to be of much importance after the beginning, especially since they weren't even included in the Stats screen. It doesn't lessen the story's strengths though and we're already excited to replay the game.

We love how long this game is, and all the relationships you can develop with different characters. The world-building is pretty fantastic as well. Will be playing more from this company.

The free chapters were engaging, and purchasing the full story was a no brainer!! Your choices you make, guide a path to who you want your sorcerer to be. There is ABSOLUTELY replay potential!! Loved it.

As a reader of just about all choice books we can fairly say the following. This is a surprisingly good read. Despite the app skin, and our reservations the author did a great job of making you care and laugh while reading the story. A few mis types but over all very good. We'll read it again.

Fantastic game that kept us interested in the characters and the story. Wish it wasn't so linear though.

We didn't have the greatest expectations before playing this game, but we ended up loving it. The plot was well thought out and keeps you interested. We also ended up personally liking and caring about our own main character, which isn't easy to do in these games. The relationships with other characters was also great, whether it be romance or friendship. In the end, we feel that there could be so much more to this game. It's a giant world and there's still stuff to be written about. Whether it be a direct sequel or different characters in the same setting, we're interested in a continuation of this story.

Good writing and grammar. Like the alchemy/spell details a lot. Love the familiar. As always, could have been longer but we always say that.

Mostly we're just having trouble with the part where you first try to solve the king's problem after the Court Wizard's failed to do so for days and if you choose to scry your spell actually works but then the king moves and disrupts it and the game ends up describing it as "your huge failure" and just hammers that in. It was annoying the first time (especially since it was, IMO, a huge success given the Court Wizard wasn't able to get anywhere), but after the fifth or so time bringing it up and saying how "you're so humiliated to have failed in front of everyone" it started making the story feel fake, which totally destroyed the immersion and our suspension of disbelief. We haven't read that far, so we don't have much else to say, but we just wanted to add in this opinion. Edit 1: Story falls into standard trap of giving you a large harem of "absolutely stunningly beautiful" women to choose from who also happen to be super smart blah blah blah. We'd appreciate it if one were ugly or dumb for once or at least have a rounder character, or if the author would put less focus into sexualizing the story.

The story is one of our favorites so far. Most of the choices don't seem to make any difference on the plot (so not a lot of replayability value), but instead they make the story very personal – your choices affect how your character acts but not necessarily the outcome. In a way that seems more impressive since the writing still makes sense and flows better than some stories that seem to take your choices and pop them into premade blanks but branch into many different success/fail options.

The background Image for the game is blank for us, idk if anybody else has this problem.

We love these games. We've download every single one, for several years. We of course was excited about this one. But every-time we go to continue our adventures, it restarts to the very beginning. Please fix this.
