Dive into Spirit Roots

Spirit Roots is a traditional 2D platformer where you run, jump, fight, evade traps, collect coins, and beat bosses. With a stitched-together artwork, the visual will remind you of the scenes from the movie Coraline.

STORY OF SPIRIT ROOTS
Long ago, on the outskirts of a small, but undoubtedly, very warlike star system, armed conflict raged for a hundred years among the system’s inhabitants.

The fighting was so fierce that in the end only one small piece remained of each of the planets. At that point, the inhabitants of all of the planets decided that they would have to stop fighting in order to survive. So, they stitched together the remaining pieces of their worlds into one large planet with a single, absolute condition: no one could violate anyone else’s borders.

But what happens when someone breaks this rule? Let’s find out!

GAME FEATURES:

  • 5 worlds with completely different atmospheres, gameplay mechanics, and enemies
  • 50 levels
  • 3 Difficulty settings: Easy, Normal and Hard
  • 10 kinds of enemies and dozens of gameplay mechanics
  • Controller support
  • Cloud Game Saves

AUDIO AND VISUAL DELIGHT:

  • A unique soundtrack designed for each world
  • Spellbinding artwork with picturesque parallax backgrounds and mystical silhouettes

BOSS BATTLES:

  • Epic boss battles. Corn cannons wielded by farmer robots? Huge spiders? Flying skulls? Mud monsters We’ve packed it all into our game!

Great premium game no extra charges, great gameplay, please make more like it !!

Awesome game. Varied levels and we’ve been playing it for months (taking our time). Great graphics and sounds. Only draw back is the lame sound the character makes when moving .

The dark woods has a lot of issues. If you die on a platform, when you restart at the checkpoint, he keeps sliding as if hes on a platform and hits something and dies. Also sometimes when you die it messes up the rhythm of the spiders, making it impossible to get through them. Sometimes when you die a witch will move into the center of the spiders where its impossible to survive. We really love this game and want to finish it, but keep getting hindered by bugs, hence the 3 stars. Please please update!!!

Love this game, the look, the feel, the creativity. We even enjoy the loose controls. But. We hate the life system. One and done, then start over at a checkpoint. Give us three hearts, and an occasional heart drop, and we would sing this games praises. It is such a good game. This one small change would carry it to five stars for us. As it is, we cant even keep it on our phone (though we’ve tried multiple times). We say this out of love if we didnt care, we wouldnt say a word.

Enjoying it so far please consider Apple TV support on this and future releases please.

A lot of the time the buttons dont react as quickly as it should which puts a real damper on enjoying the rest of it if you cant get past level 3 cause the character never jumps at the time you need him to. Seriously, right now we want a refund but if it gets fixed Id get the game again. Right now theres just no point in paying for something you cant even play without wanting to throw your phone against the wall.

The art of Spirit Roots is cute. It drew us into purchasing the game. Unfortunately the animations and motion all feel choppy and low budget. It feels like It wants to hit something like Oddmar or Rayman in terms of style but the execution just isnt there. You have three hearts, but unlike most games where this is your current health these are your lives. So when you get hit, instead of just taking some knockback and moving on with your remaining health as you would expect you find yourself dying and restarting a little ways back at a checkpoint. This wouldnt be so bad if dying wasnt so easy due to clunky controls and a character that doesnt move very well. It lead us to a very quick and frustrating end of our time with this game. Even the combat of the game is quickly frustrating and uninspiring. You have a sword for slashing and a gun that shoots out some slow moving shots. The sword slash never feels very satisfying and we find myself wishing it had even a small amount of forward momentum to it so it would chase down any enemy better. As it stands you hit them but they almost always get moved back out of your range for the next hit, so you find yourself missing the next hit leaving you wide open when the enemy strikes back. It always feels unsatisfying and leads to far too many deaths. Goblin Sword is a game with far better feeling sword combat we would recommend instead. In its current state we cant recommend spending the money on this without major improvements to the core game. Go pick up Oddmar or Goblin Sword instead. The difference between the games is striking.

This game has potential but definitely not worth the $5. There is no storyline, no weapon upgrade and very repetitive.

The gave has cute characters and good graphics. So why is it so un-fun to play? The one hit death thing is just annoying. Even on Easy mode, you will play the same sections over and over. We made it through the first world, and realized we were not enjoying it at all. Nice try, but ultimately no fun.

Boring bland doesnt make sense. Truly upset we paid for it.

Even on easy setting, we thought this was frustrating and repetitive. There is very little difference between the levels in each world. You just fight the same enemies over and over and avoid spiked obstacles. Deleted the game before finishing.

Changed 1 star to 5 star. Game is real fun, some achievements did not register (collecting all stars) but overall good game.

We appreciate the hard work! This is a very good game. Only issue we still have is the game wont award us the collector achievement for getting all the stars like another reviewer pointed out.

Its a great game, graphic music etc great. Not much of a story though, no build up of the intro. We agree with the previous reviewer, the camera depth and movement is not ideal given your gameplay requires precision. Reacting to enemies and obstacles gets annoying and you struggle to visualize the space you playing in. Does not exactly play freely and flow as a result. The last it is crashing, a lot more in dark forest almost at every level, when you die. Thanks for all bug fixes. Overall its a wonderful game. Definitely worth playing. Rating changed to 5.

It could be fun, but the controls are difficult to not become frustrated with. They are not as intuitive than they need to be.

Idk what everyone is talking about? Dying then start from the beginning? Thats what all the fun is!

We agree with booo. Its very irritating that you die after one hit. Leave the three hearts or change it to two and just lose a heart if you get hit. You have to play the level perfect to pass it. Lets compare to MARIO. At least you can get bigger at times which you earned to give you that second chance. Maybe you can earn a shield or something. We actually deleted it after 5 minutes of playing then gave it another chance and still feel the same way. We agree with the noise of the character being annoying when moving back and forth as well.

We couldn’t get through the very first level. We deleted the game. Wasted $5.

It was an awesome game up to now. There is absolutely no way to win level four in the swamp. When you open the gate on the right there is no way to scale the wall back up to the other side where the flag is. Horrible flaw.

If you could make this game supports 60 FPS frame rate, Ill write a detailed review about the whole game!

Played three worlds then game crashed repeatedly seconds into the forest level. After yesterdays (2/7) update, no levels will load. Loading screen appears but progress bar never gets past 0%. Please fix.

Yeah its pretty and has a lot of potential. We appreciate the amount of work put in. However, the game loses all fun once you die and have to restart at beginning or a check point. Why in the heck would you not just lose a health point and continue? Makes the game unbearable to play. Controls are also wonky and sticky. Fix theses issues and it would be playable. As it is, we cant stand to play it. Dont buy.

Terribly frustrating as when you die it takes you way back to start and too difficult to pass.

Its too easy to die. And 3 deaths make you start from the beginning of the level which is frustrating. Would be better if it was more forgiving, such as: hit drops a heart, but doesnt kill. 3 hearts lost will start from last checkpoint, not the beginning of the level.

We agree with other reviewers. Too easy to die and have to start over? Whatever. Delete.

Like others are saying, hit once and die. Often you cant see the enemy until youre right on top of them. Overall, game is more frustrating than it needs to be.

Jump button works some of the time and we just beat the Samp Boss and the game crashed!!!! Not only did we have to play the boss over again, we had the play the 4 previous levels. ANNOYING!

We agree mostly with other reviewers in that the deaths do get annoying and feel a bit cheap at time. We also feel that the camera is a little close, making jumps and enemies hard to see. We realize that you are going for a sort of old school feel in that aspect. We also think that a three-hit system is more favorable, as a lot of platformer games use it presently. A few other things that bother us some what are the noise the character makes every time he moves gets a little annoying and the way the camera moves with you when you are moving but moves back to you when you stop, combined with the field of depth, tend to make us a little nauseated at times. One addition we would like to see is button location and/or sizing options. We realize some of this is nitpicking and only our opinion but it is because we really love everything else about it. We love all the art and animations a great deal and we like the characters, music and the story a lot as well. It is because of this that we decided to write a review. We enjoy your work and look forward to future projects. Thank you.

The world you created looks great and its what got us to buy the game. We were excited to see what the story of this world would be, but sadly, no story. The game starts cold (unless there was a story that didnt play for us?). No idea why Im on this quest, who the bad guys are, or why there are little ghosts (?) hovering around us. Give us a reason to keep playing. We get youre going for the old school feel with the instant deaths, the difference here is the you have no space to react to the pitchfork flying at you. Contra gave you a very zoomed out screen with time to dodge the bullets (plus, at the time, the graphics werent good enough to have tighter cameras). You made a beautiful game that requires a close camera and therefore no means to react or protect yourself from a quick flying pitchfork from close range. Finally, is there any character ability development? Im 3 or 4 levels in and would love to know theres some twists or something to keep this from becoming monotonous.

We really do want to enjoy this game. It is quite fun and the controls work well for the most part. However like everyone else said the whole get hit once and respawn at the last checkpoint can get quite annoying. If they fix this Ill gladly give it 5 stars.

Im stuck on the first stage where it prompts you to shoot at an enemy. Im pressing shoot and nothing happens. Already tried reloading the game and it gets stuck at the same point.

So far we are loving this game, its fun, and just so pretty.

This game reminds us of the old gaming we used to love where you needed some skill to beat levels. It kind of feels like ninja garden or shinobi with a cartoon exterior. We haven’t tried it with a controller yet but haven’t had any issues with the onscreen controls. We don’t think it’s too hard but we grew up in the 80s and 90s with Nintendo and Sega so we’re used to games like this. We have to get back to playing but wanted to let everyone know not to worry about the other reviews and try the game if you like classic platforming games!

This game looks and plays great but one hit to kill thats just doesnt even make sense.

Im no greenhorn when it comes to platform games, and while Spirit Rootsfeatures a smoothly animated and generally responsive and easy to control player character (I had issues with double jumps because our thumb kept missing the jump icon on the second jump), its too easy to die in combat. You get hit once and youre dead, and its hard to see the enemy projectiles. We deleted this game out of annoyance after about 15 minutes of play.

Im trying to load this game on our iPad Pro 3rd gen tablet but it wont load once you try to play.
