Sproggiwood Reviews

Our new favorite game. This is a dungeon crawling town building adventure with several difficulties, a variety of character classes, tons of extras and the enemy’s are so cute they’re a little hard to kill. The best part? All of that is for one price. No IAP! Major kudos to the developers more game devs should take a cue from you guys.

Great game with a fun combat system, easy controls, nice interface, and lovely art. Easy to pick up and beat a dungeon or two in our spare time. Glad we picked it up.

We highly recommend this fantastic take on the rogue like genre. We absolutely devoured this game. What a gem! Inventive and crisp gameplay, unobtrusive yet engaging story! Play in short bursts, or binge play. We would love even more content from these devs.

You should buy this game. We’ve always liked the idea of proper roguelikes, but have never been able to get good at any of them. Not only is sproggiwood one of the best roguelikes on ios, it’s also very very easy to get into and play- plus, no iap which is a great change of pace. If you like fun, you should get this game.

We’ve been waiting for this to come out. We’ve already put in about 10 minutes and we absolutely love this!!! Everything is just top notch! We look forward to spend many hours playing this!

This is so well executed, it’s a joy to play.

Brilliant interface, especially when using swipe controls. It is so intuitive to figure out and easy to maneuver and use the special actions. Beautiful game. Difficulty is perfect. If you die it is usually your fault, at least for the four levels we have done so far. Really fun items that make each game so different. This came out of nowhere for us and we are so happy we stumbled across it. Instabuy for rogue-like fans.

We must say that we’re in love with the game we keep playing it. It’s fast and fun!!!

Every time we play it we crashes in the middle of a level and we have to start over :(

Absolutely loved this game, but we finished it already! We hope you’re planning an update for the future. I’d be happy with just one more level.

We played this game for around 30 hours on our PC through steam. This was an instant purchase for us excited to have Sproggiwood on the go!

It’s all about the savage setting. There in the real game shows itself for the true brilliance that is Sproggiwood!!!

Best phone game we’ve played. We can’t put it down!! Lol.

Didnt originally give this one too much thought, but then watching some Lets Plays really convinced us that this was one of the best roguelikes ever. Certainly the most polished on iOS. What we like about it: – Persistant unlockables – Very interesting classes – Short playtime per dungeon (this is a very big feature for us as we dont have a lot of time for games); you can play a dungeon in about 10 minutes.

The charming characters and variety of unique ways to play the game offer a great introduction into rougeish-likes. The polish on the art/sound/music/gameplay make this well worth the price of admission!

Can just leave your kids playing it without worry.

This game is challenging, high quality, and has replay value. Love it!

If you never play roguelike you should play this its got roguelike elements but not very punishing Graphic Is great we hope the dev update it to switch the control to the left of the screen.

This game is amazing but the reason it is not a 5-star for us is that the story is really short.

Fun rouge-like with a great story. No IAPs, which is nice. – Could use more content. – Repetitive monsters we personally think it’s a great buy, and it would def get 5 stars if it weren’t so short.

Awesome game generally. Definitely too short for the price tag. Could take some lessons from roguelikes like stone soup etc in terms of dungeon diversity. Not too many enemy types and there is a sameness to most of the levels. The ironical narrative is really tip top and the graphics are awesome. The classes are cool but it’s pretty lame that they’re basically identical besides their special abilities, some of which just aren’t really that useful from a gameplay perspective. We hope they keep the updates coming and flesh this out since it has a ton of potential.

So far it’s a fun game. I’d love to see iCloud or some other way to sync progress across devices.

This game is very well made and the turn based gameplay is super fun. But for ten bucks we expect a lot of levels and a lot to do. We beat this game with one character in a couple hours. That’s it. Done. You can then replay the same levels with new characters but it’s not nearly as much fun. A little disappointing. The good: The gameplay is tense and certainly requires thought. The UI is intuitive, text is easy to read even on our now-small iPhone 5s, and there’s an interesting and weird story being told.

First of all this is an amazing tactical rogue like game but it has a couple of flaws. 1. A little overpriced for having only 10 levels. 2. We don’t know if we’re the only one but for us it crashes quite a bit. Especially on good runs. 3. If a treasure chest or pot spawns on the hole or stairs we can’t collect – break it. If you maybe half the price, fix some crashes, and maybe make a text box asking you if you want to go to the next floor or not we would defiantly change our rating to 5 stars.

We had to take a star away however. For the price tag the game is much too short, granted you can go back and clear every level with every class. On your first play through you will not accumulate enough gold to upgrade everything at your base or buy all the gear. The gear diversity is also lacking.

It keeps crashing randomly we’ve deleted some apps and stuff like that but it crashes anyway. Otherwise, great game!

Devs: Thank you for giving us a great game for a flat price, with no hidden IAPs or advertisements! We’re not big on roguelike or tactics games generally, but this one has the right balance of difficulty (across three modes) & rewards for keeping you going. Even when you fail a dungeon you get some coins, which makes it not feel quite so hopeless. The aspect of building up your town is very well done on a touch screen. The art, music, & writing is top notch as well! Overall, we definitely found this game worth the price, even if it is a bit high for an iOS game. We’re retracting a star for a few minor complaints: -Having to tap only on the dialogue bubble to advance text is a pain on a small screen such as our iPhone 5; we keep trying to tap anywhere else on screen so that we can read as we tap instead of alternating between reading a line of dialogue and tapping to bring the next one up. -Sometimes the music randomly stops. -The loading screen gets pixelated for a couple seconds on our iPhone 5, iOS 8.3. -While we feel they have probably done the best they could for touch screen controls in the dungeons (with two control options), it doesn’t feel quite as natural as we imagine it does on a keyboard.

Thank you for porting this game to mobile platforms. Sproggiwood has replaced our dated, match 3 crawl, light unfulfilling delves, and our one good Roguelike. For us what this game has done is clear up some space and offer great content all in one package.

One of the best dungeon crawlers on the App Store especially since it has no iap. If the devs add support for portrait mode so we can play with one hand we will amend our review to be 5 stars.

The gameplay was so much fun. The graphics were beautiful and the dialogue witty. However for $10 we were expecting a lot more gameplay. A very extensive Final Fantasy or Kairosoft game would go a lot more with less cost. If the cost were halved we would not hesitate giving it 5 stars.

We absolutely love this game but it’s crashed on us a few times, once while we had just finally killed a boss. It’s such a great game but we’re left frustrated that our hard work wasn’t saved and we have to tackle a level all over again.

Beat the game way too quickly… For a $10 investment it was short lived. Yes it is replayable but the town building aspect is only aesthetics, the strategy is redundant given such a few levels. Worth $2-3 to us personally, would only suggest this if its on sale.

Even though it’s perfect for a d-pad and costs $10. -3 stars from an otherwise 5 star game.

Very colorful art and a fun game that we keep coming back to. Highly recommended.

I’d pay for more content if you added a second story.

Started it on Savage per the suggestion of a review we read and we’ve had so much fun. Just the right amount of luck. We love the presentation too, funny and gorgeous to look at, something sorely missing from any other roguelike.

That aside, wonderful game. Tough starting out but playing with bought power-ups in easier dungeons becomes enjoyable. Big grind factor, take it as you will. Characters only level in each dungeon and reset at each new one, so gear becomes key. You have to buy items in town once to permanently unlock – we made a mistake thinking they were unlocked in town gratis – so don’t jump back into new dungeons without buying what you can!

We didn’t buy it for a while because it looked too cute but it’s a really fun twist on rogue likes.

Seriously, if you have any interest in dungeon crawlers, do not miss this game. It’s turn based and rogue-like, but with persistent improvement even when you die. Great art style, cheese humor and perfect gameplay, this game is a gem on the appstore. Just can’t believe we didn’t buy this sooner.

Despite being adapted from a pc version, Sproggiwood feels absolutely perfect on mobile. Never crashes, doesn’t drain battery or run our phone hot, and is both charming and challenging. We’ve been playing for a week now and all we can say is that it’s the best roguelike we’ve played. We love it.

We can not believe how good this game is. We only got it 5 days or so ago (I dunno, the days have all started to blend together since we bought this…) – but it’s quickly turned into one of our favorite iOS games ever. As for roguelikes, it’s probably our second favorite (right behind Cardinal Quest 2… Which we’ve dumped at least 100 hours into, and took the place of 868-Hack, which is another… Just outstanding roguelike – if you pick 3 to get into… Those are the 3 I’d recommend). Especially after playing on the Savage difficulty – it’s like a completely revamped version of the game. But it’s also very cool that you can change difficulties on the fly (yeah, mid-level!!), as there’s only 1 save slot. The developer has also stated that the controls will be able to be flipped in the update that’s being beta tested on iOS right now (along with a couple other tweaks and fixes) – and has been pretty active on Touch Arcade. We’re really looking forward to see what comes next out of Freehold Games studio. If it’s even half as good as Sproggi, it should wind up being a pretty great game. Update Thank you thank you thank you!!!! MFi support ROCKS!!! =oD.

Good classic styled game play.

Awesome rogue-like with progression elements. Tons of replay value!

This game is great. It takes the impermanence of Rogue while still allowing for permanent grown and powering up. Still annoying when you die but no the computer monitor destructive rage that games like Angband left us feeling.

If you’ve never tried one or your a veteran, we think you’ll enjoy this a lot! Well worth the price of admission.

This is by far the best game we have purchased on our iPad in a long while. For that alone it deserves 5 stars! It is crazy fun! We have had a hard time putting it down and we honestly have never said that about a game before! We’re playing it with high bass headphones and even the sound we find to be amazing! The only problem we have run into is a double click issue. When we click to leave settings it often double clicks and puts us right back into settings. We have the same issue after selecting a class. Instead of letting us select our equipment, we are immediately jumped into the game. Annoying but not game breaking by any means. We wish there was a little more to the city part of the game. For instance when purchasing your first civic boost we were disappointed to see it doesn’t unlock a unique building. That, along with visually upgrading the building upon upgrading the boost, would have been awesome! As it stands there’s really no reason to ever do anything with your city… That we have thus far figured out anyhow. To wrap things up… If you are remotely interested in this game, we say, buy it! You probably won’t regret it.

This is a great rogue-like. There are permanent perks and weapons you can buy that last between levels and buffs and events of strategic advantage that can only be found in shrines at each level. The levels are procedurally generated, so in theory you could play indefinitely. To us, it was the right mix of replayability with progress toward an endgame. There is a little bump in difficulty around level 4 and again at the final level, level 10, but overall it was very accessible on normal difficulty. The six different classes are unique enough that we went through the whole game with each. Sometimes the levels were just a bit longer than we find ideal for a mobile game, but that is a more personal issue. But it is not a battery drainer!
