"I wish that they made Joja more tempting especially for early game players. 50% prices, seeds out of season, food items for buffs, they should even sell some items that cannot be purchased anywhere else. Instead, it’s way too easy to ignore Joja all together"

"I never understood why they would make it more expensive to shop there than Pierre, especially with contradicting messages from the residents saying it’s cheaper to shop there."

OranPlan: Other reason: "oh no, it’s Wednesday and I desperately need seeds TODAY if I’m going to get these crops grown before the end of the season!"

Paul Night Long: I wish that they made Joja more tempting especially for early game players. 50% prices, seeds out of season, food items for buffs, they should even sell some items that cannot be purchased anywhere else. Instead, it’s way too easy to ignore Joja all together

PumpkinSpice Gaming: I never understood why they would make it more expensive to shop there than Pierre, especially with contradicting messages from the residents saying it’s cheaper to shop there.

Krobus Stardew: my theory for this is the same as the reason why NPCs say that stuff at Jojamart is cheaper: Joja sells food cheaper than Pierre, but not seeds. perhaps Pierre gives a discount on seeds to the player also. Sunflower seeds, due to being something that people eat, may be cheaper there for that reason.

GalaxyFox503: The only reason I go into joja is to talk to Shane and give him gifts

Blue Man 4: Honestly Joja shouldve had cheaper prices across the board. It would’ve been more realistic then. Sacrificing small town values for money. Been a more substantial choice then.

FRANKLIN Z: There is a historical reason for this. Due to possibly a mistype, jojamart sunflower seeds used to be like 20g or something at some point, you can actually buy sunflower seeds from joja and sell them at Pierre’s to make infinite profit, but then it was planned to be fixed in the next update and people were stockpiling huge amounts of sunflower seeds.
When the update dropped, CA made Pierre’s buy back price super low, but raised joja’s price so that they can be sold back to joja exactly the same price as they were bought with the bugged version. Super smart move.

theninjakid14: Nah, man, Joja Mart doesn’t sell garlic seeds, I’m gone.
How am I gonna fend off the vampires without that s**t?

GrrrlStyleNow: I’d literally never bothered to do a price check because of all the residents telling me that it was cheaper there – I thought I was boycotting them out of the goodness of my heart!

I think if the mart was nearer the farm and you didn’t literally have to walk by Pierre’s first that would create more of a practical challenge for players while supporting the narrative critique.

Saihan: Goddamnn, Didn’t know that. I brought SV a few days ago and Im addicted to it now lol.

Noodle: I literally live in a small town and I never understood why Jojo was actually more expensive. In my town there’s two grocery stores, a conglomerate and a small local one which I work at. People always complain about our prices being high, but it’s just how it is for local stores to stay afloat, always wondered why that didn’t reflect in stardew.

Quinn Lee-miller: Perhaps Pierre sells the seeds cheaper because he hopes to sell your farm fresh produce at those ridiculous markups; it seems to work, as they always disappear after a while, and food doesn’t decay over time (for some reason you can keep a parsnip in a box for 100 years and still sell it cuz why not).

I’d still like it if you got coupons in the mail, as well as other incentives to buy from Joja, as it’s mostly a pointless stain on the map, and Concerned Ape even turned it into another bundle just so we can get rid of it.

ryuuisnothere: me, planning to marry haley in my third playthrough: WRITE THAT DOWN, WRITE THAT DOWN!

GamerParker123: I think it would’ve been interesting for Joja to appear as a more “trustworthy” company at the start of the game, encouraging the player to shop there. This works in real life because often big name brands are more expensive that off brand items, meaning they sell for more.

Alex. Fox: I actually live in a small town like the one in Stardew, and Dollar Generals are sorta threatening to take over more or less. It has in some locations nearby already. Realistically, the prices would have been made cheaper in Joja than at Pierre’s. Although, most people buy from local run stores just because of the location the one I’m close to is and also because of brand loyalty, and there’s a lot of stuff that DG has that the stores here don’t.

Andy Lugo: When the npcs say “Omg joja mart has such low prices” for the 100th time. Meanwhile its like way more expensive…

Adysen McKay: Alternatively: gifts or daily interaction for Sam and Shane if you cant find them when they aren’t in their rooms

Azazel Orion: You can get the auto petter at joja. It’s nice when you have way too many animals to tend to everyday.

Sinicord: I usually pay them a visit early game because of the different wallpapers, I require nice walls and floors

Bark Buck: I was always disappointed that there was absolutely no reason to go to joja mart unless it was Wednesday and you NEEDED seeds now to meet a deadline, or you wanted to track down an NPC. Jojas should have been cheaper, had food stocked, and offered crab pots and fresh fish. It should have threatened a monopoly on ALL the towns businesses, at least to an extent. ESPECIALLY since its the only store of its kind in the valley, these companies will run their new stores in an area at a loss to drive out other businesses and then ramp up prices once they’re the only option. They can do that because they already have the funds to take the initial financial hit, unlike smaller local shops who have to price things appropriately to stay afloat. That early game cutscene where the joja manenger literally steals Pierre’s customers right out of his store seemed to be doing exactly that, but we the player never actually experience it.
