Hear from the Players – Starman Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Starman:

This is such a lovely, challenging, yet not too challenging, atmospheric, game with easy controls and lovely soothing soundtrack. We’ve played it through many times on the switch, and now am downloading the app to our phone so we can meander through anytime. Such a treat to find a good game that is a work of art, too. Really hope to see more from this developer, especially with the same attention to style and atmosphere this game so greatly achieves. 11/10 for a short art focused puzzle game masterpiece.

This is the type of game we enjoy. We dont need lightning-fast thumbs and the soundtrack is actually pretty unobtrusive, even soothing.

We found this game in 2019 and it was so mesmerizing. We love the mood they create for the world.

Am replaying all our favorite games and decided to go for Starman again. Thought we had written a review and was surprised to see we had not. This game deserves the time & attention to do that tho. The puzzles are so intriguing and they make you THINK of how to use the mechanics of the pieces and the mechanics that each new level introduces. As mushy as this sounds Im also moved by the lonely little Starman as he makes his way in this strange new world & as he sits by his fire creating butterflies in the depths of the night. We actually luv the new levels and some required outside the box (no pun intended) thinking which our socially distanced housebound brain sorely needed! Many thanks to NADA for this game. PLEASE make a Starman 2. Ill be quite happy to place our pre-order!

This is a very soothing type of slow-paced game thats very easy to learn, yet challenging enough to play time and again. There are 9 fascinating puzzle levels that will challenge you. After completing all 9 levels, you will have the opportunity to explore Flow (an extended game) with 9 unique challenges where the reward is a seed. You get to plant the seeds and watch them grow into trees with colorful leaves. What is fascinating about Flow is how you have the freedom to plant trees wherever you want. Also, you can strategically jump from island to island if its in sight. Starman is enhanced by Flow, so we recommend trying for yourself and ignore the haters writing bad reviews. We actually enjoy this slow-paced game because we can enjoy a snack while playing! As a BONUS, you will find animated stickers in the Messages app. Its very relaxing and we appreciate that. If you want a fast-paced game, this isnt it. Starman is a game for the rest of us we this game and you will too! Recommended: Yes.

Currently on iOS 15.0.2. The app crashes consistently on the Docks level. Looks like a bug. Overall great game but removing a star until thats resolved and we can continue the game.

We dont understand this game, if its a game even.

To be fair, this is a beautiful and fun game. However, it keeps crashing at level 4 and we’ve tried to contact the developer but it just brings us to a Twitter page. Id love to be able to finish this game but without any way to contact the developer, we guess Im out of luck.

Im not into video games but this is a striking exception. Cinematic black and white feel and ambient music are dope AF. Respect!!!

This is the most beautiful game we have ever played. Super soothing.

Great for children. Our cousin loves this game!

Cool way to get your mind thinking logically and getting used to problem solving.

We almost passed this one by which, would have been a lost opportunity to play a great atmospheric, intriguing game. On the 5th chapter, place or spot we just had to stop so as to prolong the delight it is to be in this game. Take us for the ride that is sure to come. Love, love the experience! Thank you devs.

As a puzzling game fan, we find this to be right up our alley. Good puzzles, easy ambient music, and really not too much to pay for art. We look forward to more games in the same style by these folk. Developer : There is an issue whenever we play this game it messes with our default brightness setting on our iPad (always up to date iOS), check into it if you would.

Like the logic of the game. Its a soothing experience to play. We have experienced one bug in the extended chapter. Lighting the tune discs correctly did not give us an orb.

We finished this game in a day, so yeah its not long, but we loved every minute of it, even when we were stuck and frustrated. The atmosphere is exquisite and the puzzles really force you to get creative. The last few levels are exacting; the timing of things gives zero wiggle room at all, but they are doable. For us the best thing about the game was the flow chapter you unlock after finishing the main game. Honestly we want a whole game of this; a great open world of conceptual puzzles to discover. Great work guys!

Take your time and enjoy the simplicity of this game! Please make more levels!

Great casual game. Puzzles are really fun. So is flow mode. Definitely required critical thinking and problem solving. Hope they make an expansion add on. That would be cool. We really like the astronaut concept.

Beautiful game, atmospheric, clever, but short. To be fair, it would probably have gotten old had it gone on much longer. We got it 75% off ($0.99) and it was well worth it.

High price for short levels & easy solve.

Too short by half. The aesthetic is very cool, and the animations are cute. The puzzles are almost all too easy. The free-play section suffers from annoying control issues and we lost interest in it after one five-minute session. Overall Im not sorry we bought it, but we think its a $2 game and not a $4 game.

All in all this game was beautiful, and Id say worth the experience. A couple thoughts. First, the character is too slow. It doesnt particularly take away from the game, but it made us feel less immersed as we waited for our character to walk from one end of the map to the other. Add some degree of trial and error, and the game has a decent amount of tediousness. The game also didnt quite feel consistent. There were times we felt like it was a use-your-finger-to-drag-things-around game, while at other times it preferred to use the character to press buttons. Particularly the levels with portals felt contrived (arbitrarily difficult) with more use-your-finger mechanics, those levels would have felt much more smooth and consistent. The world was wonderfully crafted! 5 stars for that aspect! Though the gameplay itself wasnt our favorite, we thoroughly enjoy a game that crafts and beautifully immersive environment, and this game scratched that itch. The world implies vague hints of post-apocalypse, which allows the mind to wander and wonder how it ended up the way it did. We agreed with an earlier reviewer who said it was a kind of mix of Monument Valley and Limbo. Overall a decent game that Id say would be valued by an average gamer seeking an immersive experience.

The puzzles are nice and most take a couple of tries to figure out. But most of the game time is spent watching the excruciatingly slow walking animation. And the puzzles seem to be designed to maximize walking distance. With no option to speed up, this game becomes more like a walking simulator after each puzzle. We got to the 6th level before deciding to quit.

Very disappointed in this game. We bought it based on the reviews and totally disappointed in it. The puzzles are not hard, they are just frustrating because they take too long because of the lag of motion fro the Starman. The hardest thing was not pulling our hair out waiting for the movement. Its $4 we want back.

You cant get past the beach at least we cant yea Im average at puzzles but its not hard its impossible.

This game is awesome, its very calming and chill. Its an unordinary game in a good way. We cant wait until Starman 2!!!

We only had to cheat a couple times.

Love the Buddha-floating. Almost lost our boat in the trees. Off to plant trees until next update (I hope!).

The puzzles and the world are both interesting. The game wouldve been more fun to play if the controls werent so clunky. Some later levels needed precise timing and the controls made that pretty frustrating. Still, worth sticking with it to the end.

This would be an amazing game if the Starman would just walk faster. It is punishingly slow moving if you choose the wrong next move. And, you often have to completely start over. Then the starman walks so slowly you want to scream. Its not worth the aggravation. IF HE WOULD JUST WALK FASTER, we WOULD KEEP PLAYING!

Hey Starman team! Way to go on this game. Its wonderful. The perfect blend of relaxation and cognitive stimulation. It feels like an adventure game and an escape room got married and Starman is the baby. We really enjoy it. Looking forward to updates. Go Starman!

In a day and age of microtransactions, overpriced DLC, and who can have the best graphics and the least gameplay, comes a game with such depth and beauty through its simplicity and intelligence. While having a colour palette with 3 more colours than Call of Duty, the games colour scheme, art style, and direction are breathtakingly beautiful. The gameplay reflects this thought process, and the art style as well. With its simplistic nature and deep complexity everything you do feels like an accomplishment. One of the puzzles we just wasnt getting, a simple 3 piece puzzle and we just wasnt getting it. Then we noticed that the block would tilt at the bottom of the ramp, then it dawned on us, INERTIA! Something so simple made us feel like a genius. And thats how the whole game is really, thats why we consider it perfect. Great job team we loved it and couldnt put it down! :-) Also we want a StarMan figure to have and play with please get on it! <3 ~Caleb.

We loved loved loved this game. Gorgeous, easy controls, great puzzles, good learning curve. This is by far the best game we’ve played in months. Well worth the price. We would easily pay for more levels or a sequel. Please please put out more levels. Highly recommend. Im just sad its over. EDIT: we hate the added level where you wander. In the regular game, everything was pretty intuitive, but in the bonus level, nothing is. We solved a puzzle (the spinning thing with a crank) without understanding how Id solved it. It gave us a seed, but it wouldnt plant anywhere (I tried to plant that thing EVERYWHERE) and now its gone after leaving the game in frustration for a day. Nothing about the original levels was like this- it feels slapped together. We were delighted to see this addition, but it just isnt great.

We absolutely love this game. We first got it because Im a huge fan of these quiet puzzle games, and we also love space. It didnt take us long to finish it, but we’ve replayed it over and over since then, and the flow mode now adds even more to do. Highly recommend this game to anyone in the mood for a quiet calming and beautiful puzzle game.

One of the best games we’ve ever played on handheld.

Its a cool little game, it definitely makes you think on what is needed to get past each level.

We love these kind of puzzlers. And enjoyed the gameplay. However, we could not complete some of the early levels without viewing cheats. Some solutions are simply not intuitive enough and we would never had figured them out on our own. We really wanted to like this game but it proved to challenging.

The character moves very slow and we cant seem to get past level 3. We cant say anything bad about it though cuz we got it for free. Cool idea for a game though.

Game will not close correctly. Phone stays in landscape mode until reset.

Thank you for the new content! We absolutely love this game. Please keep up the great work. We would love to see more games from you!

The app is great. We enjoy a little thinking when Im playing a game. However when we started playing we realized 2 things: our phone overheating and our battery being used up. Maybe find a way to fix this but we’ve stopped playing.

This game is both outstanding and beautiful in its graphics and puzzles! The monochromatic graphics set a relaxing tone to the game, and the puzzles are not too hard to lessen the enjoyment. Excellent balance and length of game. Highly recommended! Thank you, dev!

What a great game! We had a blast playing through it! THANK YOU!!

People who "complain" about this game have no idea what makes a game a game. Don’t listen to the low reviews, simply trolls and nothing more! This game is truly amazing: graphics, art style, mechanics, music, mood, puzzles. All awesome. If you can do better, well, do it. Otherwise, let this game just be what it is: AWESOME! Well worth our money and well worth the time to type out a review.

Starman is a wonderfully built, simplistic puzzle game. With no directions at the onset of the game, it can feel a little daunting, but the music and sounds of this game bring a calming presence. We loved playing every minute of this challenging journey. Our only wishthat it was just a little longer!

Thanks for the one of best games ever.
