What is procedural generation ?

Core to Stellar Horizon is that its virtual galaxy, including the stars and planets, are all created through random procedural generation
using deterministic algorithms. A single seed number is used to create these features via mathematical computation thus eliminating
the need to create each of these features by hand.
This enables the game to have a massively open nature: it is estimated that with the 32-bit seed number, Stellar Horizon virtual
galaxy will include over 4 billion planets. Any player will be able to visit a specific planet once they know its galactic
coordinates, given their spacecraft has the capability to do so, and find the same features as any other player,
as these coordinates serve as the seed for the planet’s topography and environment.

Find out what gamers are saying about Stellar Horizon:

If you want a No Man’s Sky style game on mobile, this is the ONLY game even close to it. Of course over time and updates new features will be added. Would love to see free movement on planets. BUT, as is, it’s still an epic universe in your pocket. Such a big adventure in such a small package. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for Stellar Horizon! -Joshua Higgins (Sketch) OneHitGamer Studios.

This game is a hidden gem among the app store and is still being developed and new features get added on a steady basis. One flaw we would like to see improvement on is movement. Free movement on planets could be a large contributor to the feeling of freedom in the game. Being able to use a joystick to control free, smooth movement on planets could improve the freedom heavily. Devices these days could definitely handle the steady generation of worlds in this game and we would be very happy to see that in this great game that is filled with potential.

First off a we’re loving the game. There are however several things that bug us. 1. Please make buttons make more noise! We never know when we hit one. (Or have a visual clue like they change to a lighter color) 2. Please improve the look of the planets on the ground. At the moment they look like play dough. Maybe improve the textures, or add more variety in plants and have more of them, or shift the colors to be more realistic planet colors. 3. We like the geometric style, but could we get some more variation in the stations and ships? 4. Lastly could we have more planets in a system? That’s all thanks for the great game!

We really like this game. It’s about as close to Elite horizon as you can get. Hard to figure out the mechanics at first but after running a few missions it felt simple. If you like elite horizon then you will like this.

This game is great. The other games we have about space are boring. We were looking forward to buying games about planet simulating, and we did find many games about it. But the truth is that these games are so boring and we liked them all at the beginning but then moved on over time. Then, we found out about this space game and even though it wasn’t about creating planets and when we bought it we were confused of how it works for a little bit until we learned how to do it. We had a little help with learning about this game from the guide (which is kind of hard to find). It might take a while for us to move on from this game. Thanks a whole lot to the credits for developing it. P.S. Just in case if you’re wondering, we kind of quit trying to find planet simulation games because we just can’t find any good ones.

Great space exploration game. This dev updates the game all the time and it just keeps getting better. This is the type of dev and support all iOS games need. If you like this type of game you need to purchase this one. Support great game makers!!!

We’ve been playing this game since its initial release and have been blown away by the continuous support the dev puts forward into this game. The game is updated very frequently with amazing additions that vastly improve an already "stellar" game. It also takes up very little memory which is startling when you see how vast the game is. Stellar Horizon has changed almost entirely since its release and we hope to continue to see it evolve. I’d heartily recommend anyone who enjoys open world/exploration style games to pick this up.

This game is beautiful and the concept seems sound; however, after spending more than an hour aimlessly planet hopping, we have no idea what we’re supposed to be doing. The game needs a tutorial, plain and simple. The interface is buggy at times, if you don’t "SKIP" whenever you get the message opportunity to do so, the game simply hangs up and nothing happens. If you guys correct these issues we will edit this post/rating to let everyone know. If not, we will be contacting Apple for a refund, and will update this post/rating accordingly. — Edit: Still no tutorial and many of the interfaces are still buggy regarding the "SKIP" function. Very sad.

This game has 5 star scores from every member of the Touch Arcade thread for a reason. Regarded as what No Mans Sky should be! In depth space exploration experience with a beautiful soundtrack. Must play for iOS!

This is exactly what we needed: A universe simulator ON iPHONE! We love the mechanics and the complexity of the gameplay and the UI, but we wish planet navigation was a bit more smooth than it is now. Other than that, this game’s worth every penny! EDIT: Also, this game uses up ALOT of battery, so please try to find a way to make this game use up less power, and add difficulty modes.

Very cool game, we can see a good future for it. One suggestion however: Instead of having to click the arrows and wait an annoying second every time we move on the surface of a planet, could you please implement a joystick so that it runs more smoothly and becomes more immersive? Thanks!

Awesome space exploration game, kind of a "no mans sky lite." It is oddly relaxing to just explore things with not a lot of pointless quests to get in your way. Only complaint: Not a big fan of the way your character moves on planets. It is really clunky, wish movement was more in real time instead of tap where you want to go. It would be great if this could be changed later.

Update question: tintin888… How do u know there will be plenty of updates? No info on devs site. And please, make a forum so players can discuss questions, places found, tips etc. Only tried it a few times. Seems like fun. But… Even on iPad all the font is tiny tiny tiny. It is mostly older crowds that’ll play this type of laid back game and they are the ones with aging bad eyes. It’s difficult to continue because of the tiny font. Please enlarge it or allow the player to enlarge.

Let our loss of $3 be to your benefit. We can’t even read the screen the text is so small. And, traveling along a planets surface is one still frame snapshot at a time. There is virtually no animation, other than the little dots on the radar. This is very amateurish at best and we would not play it even if it was free.

We can, without regret, say that this is one of the best games on iOS. While it may need improvement, the constant updates show that it has not been forgotten. Truthfully the only two things that need much improvement are planetary travel, and the graphics of ships/stations.

This looks awesome, but tiny text is hard to read (even on the larger 6 Plus phone) and it really needs to autorotate so we can play with headphones more comfortably!

This game lacks polish, in game direction/tutorial, UI and general performance. That being said we cant stop trying to explore. Space navigation is decent and easy to understand, but the planetary exporation needs a lot of work, it is tedious to travel and on some planets boring to bother. Some polish, a bit more UI work and a faster planetary experience would really make this a great mobile explorer.

We scanned a peace that holds up the White House it it says theres nothing there and we cant launch on a flat surface.

Wow! Different , very cool, fun! , huge exploration! Please, Keep the updates coming!!!!! It would be great to have an option to enlarge the font. (Im playing on our iPhone and text is small.) Having giant ships flying by or to fight against would be really sweet too! Love the game!

We downloaded this because it sounded like no mans sky for iOS. Its definitely simpler but that makes it better suited to play a bit here and a bit there. The vastness of the game is astounding given its memory size which we suppose is the beauty of procedural generation. Well worth the the $2.99 even if you only make your way across a small chunk of the galaxy.

We love this game. It feels like a lot of time and effort when into making it. We also love there arent ads constantly popping up. But there are some aspects that are rather clunky. The wormholes seem to go to only two parts of the galaxy, not sure there is any benefit of building a base, especially having to go back to them to collect income, navigating a planet can be rather difficult, especially trying to go up steep inclines, it takes forever getting to a legendary system, there are a few bugs (like being able to cheat by having no money and paying the fines to get almost unlimited money), but even getting the best ship and weapons doesnt have a great payoff considering trying to cover a large distance to a legendary system can take hours since the wormholes shoot you out two places. Im not sure what the end goal is… We like the free play, but the game doesnt hint of what the long term game or when youve completed it, so it can be monotonous. Id keep the open play with the option for an ending… We assume now the point is to visit all the legendary systems, maybe the AI computer giving some more guidance with an end story… Havent been able to do that yet. Also a strategy guide of some sort would be nice. Overall a fun game with loads of potential and Id love to see some updates. Good job developer, its a unique game with a bit more polish id give it five stars. And if the developer wanted to put a price on it to fund future developments on it we would pay a few bucks.

This game is fantastic and we’ve been looking for a game that lets you explore different planets, but there is one thing that we wish you will improve. The movement controls are a bit show and you dont get a lot of freedom to move and look around, so can you add something like a joystick and make it so that you can swipe the screen to look around just like most first person games. We really love this game and we hope you would do this.

This game is rather strange. On one hand the developer has done some very interesting things, like a procedurally generated universe and planets. On the other hand, the UX is terrible and a number of features are underdeveloped. There is immense potential here we really wanted a game like this for mobile and this is all we could find on iPad. But the flaws like the UX, and the slow planet navigation, and inconvenient navigation make this a chore. Keep working on this, please!

Its been a year without update so Im not holding our breath however this is a great little sim if you can stomach some annoyances. Mainly planetary exploration. Im good with the old-school dungeon crawling method that theyve used by hitting a button and moving forward one frame at a time. The problem is the amount of time it takes to do anything on the ground. Maybe its just this iPad from 2017 however to move one space ahead it takes at least 10 seconds of the screen sitting there with the wait dial spinning like its loading. This is whether you turn or move in a direction. Exploring a planet is near impossible because of the amount of time it takes. No joke its like watching the Mars rover move but even slower. Navigation is also lacking, we havent found a way to click on a mission and have it pointed towards that star, and there isnt a search feature so navigating around is a bit of a pain. We dont understand why you cant just click on a mission and have it have a navigate button so that at least youre set to go, like a elite dangerous. It could be a fun little in the same however the developer really has not put in some quality of life stuff making it obnoxious. Planetary exploration really needs to be fixed, Im OK with it being slow but the wait time to move anywhere is obnoxious enough not to play the game.

We honestly cant believe anyone can play this. If this is fun then we missed the boat. Sorry we really tried….

This is the only game on an iPhone that can match other games like elite dangerous so well. Most other games are over the top shoot em ups, but this game is so much more. With a whole economy and guild system it gets really in depth. Depending on the player this can be a good or bad thing. It will be a lot harder to learn and master but when you do, it can give so much content in return. It feels like every day we find something new that we had no idea was in the game such as wormholes, dinosaurs/life, monoliths, and so much more so when u find them it feels like you are progressing. Overall this is a great game that is tough around the edges but if u can get over the graphical quality, controls, and the depth and complexity of the game and want a game to relax to and play any way you want, this is the best to get. This game is great if you are an avid player of games like elite dangerous and no mans sky.

Enjoying this game! Lots to explore and do. Have noticed one thing that need to be fixed. On the Navigation page the Imports list only shows page 1 items that are a good trade and not all 5. Hope that can get fixed soon to make finding trade routes easier.

This is the game we’ve been looking for! We purchased and started playing (on IPad mostly) just a few days ago and Im really enjoying this game. Its more in the lines of space exploration, which is what we’ve been looking for. Its also nice to play a game that you dont get targeted all the time and get a chance just to enjoy exploring. This game has many bells, whistles, and choices and we found it relatively easy to play. Im not the greatest at battling attackers when it happens but the nice thing is the developer doesnt make you start all over from scratch. Also nice to pay one price and play! Nicely done and looking forward to continuing play and future updates.

As a space person we like space games this game is a good game bringing in the fact of the planet movement buttons Id weather use a joy stick instead of buttons this is why you get 4 stars the end. NOTE: thanks for using our idea.

Enjoying the game. Experiencing a lot of crashes to home screen. Saving the game frequently to avoid losing progress, but this makes for very frustrating game play. Id give 5 of 5 stars for the game aside from this. Hopefully will continue development and address the crashes. Thank you for an enjoyable app.

Played for 15 minutes and got bored. Feels like a great start to something, but feels unfinished. We could not figure out what to do to be working toward anything in the game.

We admit, we only played about 15 minutes, landed on one planet, looked for some resources, and that was all we could take, and we apologize for that, Im sure it deserves more. Obviously a lot of work, thought, and passion went into the game. Thank you for that. And the game could be great if fleshed out. As is, its like a desert, just the bare-bones outline of a full featured game. #1 – on the planet surface, the vehicle only moves by use of arrow keys? Really? And were to explore a universe at that rate? Instead – use full 3-d reality and motion, make the vehicle really fly over the surface at the users discretion. Including to varied altitudes! #2 – Lighting! Again, use 3-d lighting set up so one can get more depth perception and sense of object location. #3 – Details! Everything needs details to bring life to the scenes. Textured surfaces will help. Ships as featureless wedges? Not nearly enough to bring life to the game. And they dont have to be complicated … Smooth curves go a long way. #4 – Music, well ok, to get the great stuff is well beyond most budgets, but the somber, melody-less, music we heard during our brief experience with the game needs cheering up somehow! #5 – lack of people, even poster people that dont move add drastically needed life to any scene. Sure, animation is a challenge, but it doesnt take a lot to get in a sense of life being present. #6 – add a tutorial session, include landing on a station, planet, and the other major activities. #7 – add a story line. The human mimd is made for stories, weve dragged ourselves out of the mud with them. Nothing adds purpose to a game like a good story line! Look at whats possible with Blender 3D, its free, and it has its own game engine. The beta version of Blender 2.8 is working and fairly stable. It features a ray-based render engine, Cycles, and a new real-time renderer, Eevee, pretty sweet!

App is really slow and not worth the money we paid. Should have offered a free version to try first before taking our money for nothing. Plenty of high end space games out there for less or free.

Multiple planets per star system of various sizes, colors, topography, biomes, etc. Moons – planets rotate and revolve around star moons revolve around planets asteroids, comets, etc. Right now only one planet per star. No moons. Planet doesnt rotate or revolve. Cant suspend disbelief. Also, needs smooth movement on surface.

If it wasnt for that This would be 5 Stars, Quite the crippling problem.

Im always happy to see a new update now and again. Thank you for continuing to work on this game.

We’re loving the game, we’ve been a fan of games like this since Freelancer. No matter how good a game is, if the controls are bad it isn’t going to be a truly enjoyable experience, while the controls aren’t bad per set they leave a lot to be desired. A simple addition of the choice of the current controls, motion based control, and/or mfi controls for flight/movement would truly make this game shine.

This game is not intuitive. You need a tutorial. Deleted after 5 minutes. How do we get a refund?

If you could free move this would be perfect, absolutely perfect.

This is a premier space exploration game on iOS! Explore systems & planets. Trade. Battle. If you like space exploration games, I’d highly recommend giving this game a shot – you will be impressed. Plus – the developer continues to be very dedicated to improving the game – just take a quick look at the updates summary and see how much has been added to the game since release…

Great game so far! But soon after update to version 1.0.105, a bug occurred which no longer allows us to discover and record new planets, species, alien words, and monolith sites. Thus we can longer advance and reveal legendary planets. We will give dev some time for a bug fix before we restart a new game.

Updated review below we’re having quite a bit of fun playing this. It’s a solid space exploration/sandbox game. It has solid yet basic exploration, combat and trading gameplay. We are looking forward to seeing where this can go. We are surprisingly impressed with the implementation of the planetary landing and exploration. The gameplay is basic but surprisingly engaging. Our only major criticisms are the difficulty of selecting stars (the star map doesn’t help) and a lack of content, but the latter is understandable given the life of this project. Thanks! Update: we’ve jumped back into this game since we first reviewed this game a year ago, and the author has added a bunch of features. Planets now have flaura/fauna and explorable bunkers. Ships feature power management now. There are some graphical tweaks as well. This game is still fun and we forward to even more features to expand exploration, trading and fights! We really wish more games in the app store had the feeling of exploration that this one does. Our dream features would be: -Smooth/real-time exploration of planet surfaces -Selectable planets in navigation map -More things to interact with in space (minable asteroids, discoverable things in solar systems, etc)

Thousands of planets but they’re mostly just color swaps of the same planet. Very little plants and the aliens are actually just dinosaurs that don’t move. The movement on planets is slow, arduous and you can’t fight anything. If the planets were actually different and if there were aliens to fight on the planets and the movement was quick and fluid this could be a great game.

There is a lot to this game. But there is no tutorial, just a "Guide". The Guide is nothing more than a lengthy list of which button does what. So we read through the list, then gave the game a try. It was very confusing. We kept having to go back to the Guide. Even then we couldn’t figure some things out. Finally we gave up. Our advice: Avoid this game until the developer includes a tutorial.

The crashes during launch on our iphone 5s ios 8.4. Does it run for anyone??
