Hear from the Players – Surface: Alone in the Mist – A Hidden Object Mystery (Full) Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Surface: Alone in the Mist – A Hidden Object Mystery (Full):

We usually love Elephant Games and this one doesn’t disappoint. Lots of puzzles. We are really enjoying it. We like to play this type of game on our computer but this one translates well to our tablet.

Did not experience real glitches. A couple of places were not easy to complete, as in sewing the dog. Placement made no sense. Other than that thoroughly enjoyed the game. Look forward to more.

Morning of your 16th birthday and your parents disappear! Most kids would say yippee and throw a party particularly since all the adults disappeared too but not you! No, you go looking for the missing adults. Elephant did a great job on this installment. Each Surface is unique and plays well as stand alone. Transporting indicated map, quick transition between scenes, combining items is a bit of a pain in the rump but doable. We Really Wish there was a match 3 alternative to HO, but at least they are well drawn. Some mini games (pop up scenes) are too small for us to see comfortably but then again we’re blind as a bat. Keep your eyes open for hidden flowers in all scenes, usually more than one (and they like to hide them in letters and notes too) and come in silver, gold, shades of red etc. Hang on for a wild ride and enjoy!

We just played Mystery Tales Alaska and the pics shown here look like the same game, but once we bought this game we were relieved to notice it is NOT what the pictures show. This is a really good one! Glad we bought it!

We think the Mist is the most sophisticated and advanced of all Surface series and Elephant games that we have played before. Enjoying it endlessly ))) please, more games like this. Definitely, worth to buy it… And our update, we have finished the game, it is better than 5 stars . And there are tiny cute rats, if someone has phobia.

We really like a game that hardly lets us put it down. It keeps us going and we are truly having fun because it is not painfully difficult and the story just keeps unrolling with animated cuts that transition actual game play. Nice graphics and storyline. They should have an Oscar for games in various categories. Most of the animation shorts this year were just yucky line drawings and boring. Putting games in the Oscar nominations and replacing some of the shorts categories would be a big plus.

Things one finds actually make sense, good story line, good hints. Only complaint is that the text is so small.

Excellent game, even if the bonus game is a bit short. The only problem we found was in Cafe (bonus game) where we couldnt use donuts to open the cupboard. Had to terminate the game and try again. We wish there were more games like this one, but it seems everyone tries to make fantasy based games and we dont like them.

Great game with wonderful hidden object scenes, puzzles and a teleporting map. Elephant games never disappoint! A fun adventure with many things to do and lots to figure out. Thank You Big Fish for such Great Entertainment. Keep the games coming!!! KdBoots.

The Surface series is one of our favorites, and this game is one of the best. Yes, it was short, but we much prefer an outstanding game that holds our interest to one that is longer that we don’t want to finish. Graphics, cutscenes, games, and music are all top notch.

This is Awesome. Everything you love in these games. Well done.

Please make more like this! It was spooky and fun! Good plot line and not too easy to solve. We love that you have a little more control of the story by being able to choose what your character says! Amazing! Keep it up!

Surface: Alone in the Mist is another outstanding episode in this series. Each one is completely different, so don’t be afraid to try it. Excellent story line and clear artwork make it a pleasure to play. Good Hint, Skip, and Transport make it easy to enjoy. We love the collectible flowers in the Surface series. When you reach a certain number of flowers, you may play games in the Secret Room, even if you are still playing the Main Game. Your character in the Secret Room asks you to play either a Hidden Object or Mini Game (your choice.) After you discover who is trifling with the Orphanage, you go to a Dream World that reminded us of Alice in Wonderland, with giant candy, toys, and magical animals. Fun! We are so delighted that we purchased this game. We anticipate playing it many times, not just once!

We have greatly enjoyed all the variety in this game as well as the graphics.

Great game! We love the story. Good hints, teleporting map, and great puzzles. We haven’t had anything to complain about. We’re so glad we purchased this one.

Loved this game! We liked how there were so many new and different ways to find things. Creative and new – A!

We liked this game. It was certainly long enough for the cost, and the bonus game that came with it with fairly extensive as well. Plot was good as well, which is not always true with these games. About the only thing we didn’t like was a minigame in the bonus section which is a side-scroller. The controls were really terrible and frustrating.

We don’t know if this is apple or big fish but we had to try downloading this game on several different occasions before today we just sat here keeping our phone awake and it took 30 minutes to download. On our new iPhone 5s. On our iPhone 5 it took a game this size 5min to load, and faster on this phone. The final download was successful and it took us about 3.5 hours to play the game, a glitch once or twice but we exited and restarted the app and it continued fine.

UPDATE: we just finished the main game, which did not contain that many locations and deducted a star. This game is offensively short; one of the shortest yet! We’re shocked that other players did not comment on this. The bonus is usually short as well so we feel that we did not get our money’s worth. You are Carol, and you wake up on your 16th birthday; however, you are celebrating alone this year. Your parents, as well as all the other adults, have completely disappeared! Now this would have been a kid’s dream come true in certain circumstances when we were growing up, but there’s something suspicious going on here. Is this bizarre occurrence connected to the sinister girl in your dreams? The graphics are very clear using brighter shades of colors; the artwork is embellished with nicely textured and well-drawn scenes creating a vivid, realistic environment. There are four modes of difficulty, including an option to customize your settings. The inventory is labeled and interactive; items will require assembly. Transition between scenes appears to be smooth and quick. The fast teleportation map indicates available tasks to complete. Your "Note" book is accessed by clicking on both the book symbol with a mask and the map in the lower left hand corner. Your "computer" type map will open; then you open your Note Book. This records the story as you progress. We like how you get snippets of your memories when you touch certain objects, such as a picture of your Mom triggering a memory of her at her cafe. You also use a camera to take photos of clues at times. The HOS were varied and fun; one type is to find the items by their silhouette shapes. Another more unique type is a scene with audio narration because your police officer Dad is interrogating some students about a teacher’s disappearance. You will find the objects as he speaks; how creative! The puzzles are simple but fun. One type is to swap/put pieces of picture fragments between multiple pictures of different themes where they belong. You collect flowers in the locations; they are easy to spot and are also hidden in pop-up boxes. The extras include a secret room where you replay HOS and puzzles for characters to earn stars, etc. We are really enjoying this installment after last week’s bummers. By the way, LynxMinx and all reviewers: Since you might be looking for different games to play, check out some by Alawar Entertainment. Google one and you will see their others. We suggest you play the following at lower prices: Weird Park 3 Final Show The Other Side: Tower of Souls (awesome!) Dark Angels: Masquerade of Shadows we played these last year, some before we started reviewing. They are great for the price.

Note to KimTwilight! Loved the Slavic Tales and the Dreamatorium! Another great game was Mind Snares: Alice’s Journey; if you haven’t played we know you will love it! Didn’t realize how many games we haven’t played by Alawar, who it seems is now partnered with G5. So since THEY give you a trial, we just downloaded all the ones you loved plus a few others. Thank you for the heads up! We just learned that we also have carpal tunnel and have felt depressed so you gave us a pick-me-up! You are amazing! We will let others know about the other ones we are trying! Always like to "pay it forward"! On to the review! Fantastic game, but cannot give it a full 5 stars. You could customize your settings. The graphics were beautiful and the cut-scenes were exciting. It was a bit too short, even with bonus adventure. There was a journal, labeled inventory including the plus items (love them!), and a teleport map. Although the map was marked, it was a bit confusing because it wasn’t labeled, and it didn’t always work properly. You collect flowers which you can use to access a secret room in the bonus content. Loading was instantaneous between locations. The HO scenes were fabulous and had a lot of variation. There were plenty of puzzles and mini-games which we liked, because they were interesting and not a whole bunch of rotational puzzles, which we detest! The storyline was easy to follow and the game flowed very well. There was a mouse in clothes which we were ok with but a RAT was in the bonus chapter. Surprisingly we didn’t panic, and we think we are less phobic than we used to be, so thanks everyone for giving us a heads up as to vermin. We deducted a star for the following reasons. One was that we had a big problem when it came to sewing up the toy doggie. It just was extremely hard and took about 20 minutes! Just great for our carpal tunnel syndrome! Another thing we don’t like is the secret room. Why is it that after we pay for a game do we have to replay HO and puzzles with a timer? Do something different and more interesting! How about new puzzles where after you solve one it leads to another and so on and so forth? That would be a lot more fun to us! But all in all we loved this game! It was very enjoyable to play! A big shoutout to the Dream Team Elite! Especially KimTwilight and Dracyy, who always have our back. You are kindhearted and lovely people, and great reviewers! Thank you for looking out for us and for caring, and giving us heads up on the rodent situations in games. We are not letting fear stand in our way and we hope to make you proud! Lynxie sends love to the team and all the other gamers who are also our fans!

We love the different hidden object games and the mini games. We could use a little less hopping around. We would buy a sequel.

Hum drum, boring, same old, etc. Not even close to one of Elephant Games better efforts.

The game will not let us proceed past fixing the toy dog for Allie. We managed to sew up the paw and the chest but no matter how much we try, it won’t let us see the button eye back on. We’ve been tapping away for hours and still nothing. We can’t move on in the game. This never happened before with any other games, please look into this, as we would like to actually play the game that we bought.

No challenge at all. Passed easily on hardest difficulty first try, not worth the money but an interesting story.

Graphics and story line good, puzzles quick but fun, but the game ended so soon! And there are just repeats of already played mini games in the bonus content. Disappointed after paying $5.

We did not think we should have been charge $4.00 first to be able to play this game. We definitely would not of paid for it. We thought the game was something a kid would play. What happen to only paying $1.99 for games?

Come on, Big Fish! We have moved heaven and earth trying to fix the bug in this game with the teddy bear. Why aren’t you putting out an update to fix this problem? You have a duty to your customers to make good on the games you sell. We bought the game through Apple instead of your website so our only option is to delete and reinstall. We will lose all of our progress if we do that. Please make this right!

When we got the game it was great but now ever time we try to play it now the screen turns black. Please fix it big fish and we will change our Review.

Unfortunately, we are not alone in having the game quit in the middle of loading. Very disappointing.

We’re bored with this series. Nothing new here folks!

Have bought all the surface games, and this one was so far below standard. Absolutely no challenge, the mini games were way too easy.

Have played all the Surface games. This isn’t up to the usual standard. No real story, no real interaction. Now stuck at the sewing problem and can’t proceed.

Played off and on for a day. Day two, we launch the game and it starts to load and then a black screen. It won’t load now. This is the reason we stopped downloading BF games. We kept buying games that would run fine for a period of time and then stop working. We stayed away for about 8 months and decided to try again. Looks like nothing has changed at BF. It seems even worse now that a fair number of games don’t offer "try before you buy". Oh well, bye bye BF games.
