Love this game. Helion medium just took off in gen 4 with about ten invalid purchases. Three player game with bot Interplanetary C medium and Im playing Thorgate. So, this issue appears to be not fixed.
We’ve played far more games than Id like to admit and have no plans of stopping. However, this app could be five stars with two changes: 1. We need an undo button so, so badly. The buttons on the app are necessarily small and every once in a while you fat finger it and end up completely screwed as a result. Such are the margins of life on Mars. An option to undo the last action with consent of every player would be save many a civilization. 2. For the love of god, the notification system needs to be improved. 50% of the time we dont get a notification that its our turn. And the rest of the time, the apps notification badge disappears if we open it and then close it again, even if it is still our turn. When that happens we run out of time and quickly reach Matt Damon in Interstellar levels of desperation. TLDR: we love this game, plz fix.
First off, we highly recommend the game, even if you uave no friends to play with, it has ai opponents. However, when playing solo, and the game ends and it counts up your score, the game freezes and doesn’t bring you back to the main menu or ask you to save your high scores. We noticed this happeneing a couple of days ago and thought it was weird and then today, we tried restarting ipad and it still happens. We tried reinstalling the app and it still happens . . And then we looked at the version history and see they just did an update and it says "many fixes". . But then they broke stuff. Also worth mentioning, when looking at your list of saved scores, the game doesn’t sort them in any sort of logical order. We would expect it to sort the highest scores to the lowest, in descending order, but it doesn’t, so the list is kind of meaningless. It doesn’t even show the scores unless you physically click(tap) on them. Athough, there does appear to be 4 buttons on the side that look like sorting filters, but when we tap them, they don’t do anything, except they do seem to collapse to the right, showing more stuff, but the stuff is cut off by the side of the screen, as if it’s trying to go off the screen to the right. We have had this app formyears and this has NEVER been addressed. And for an app made for mobile devices, how the heck have they let something like stuff not fitting on the screen go for so long unfixed?
Decent implementation, could use some UI improvements. (1) Actions and cards that have no effect can be activated with no warning; such as actions that add a water tile when all the tiles have already been played. A better UI would disable completely non-operative actions and cards. (2) The advancement track UI gives zero indication of exactly what thresholds need to be met to get bonuses. Only after one gets to -24 Celsius is there an indication that a bonus happened. If one doesnt have the 4 advancement breaks memorized, the user is out of luck. (3) Theres no way to back out of an action or card play partway if it turns out that a mistake was made. For example, if you play a card that drops a city tile, and when the UI displays the possible city tile locations you see that all the choices are bad, the only way to cancel the action is to quit and restart the game. (4) Sometimes the game gets stuck displaying a card list. Some affordance to close a card list would be nice.
Sometimes game will not resume play. Love the game, but this glitch is really frustrating. It gets stuck on the waiting for arrival screen but you never get there.

Awesome game and awesome app. We’ve only experienced one local game that crashed and have probably played dozens of matches to this point. Our only request is any adjustments possible to make the AI more difficult. We havent delved into online multiplayer yet but we love to play against the AI. The only problem is we havent lost a match in quite a while, and we almost always win by at least 20 VPs. The AI is pretty predictable and often makes terrible first moves during mid to end game. We dont know if this is a common issue but it would great for an increased challenge. All in all still fun and a superb app adaption of our favorite board game. Thank you!!

We love TM but all the glitches are driving us to play other games. If theres more than two players, two will be the same color on the map. So frustrating! Cant see cards played or it jacks up the game. Wished they would fix these issues.
Love the game. Play many on this app and irl. Please fix the issue where the menu screens get stuck during play. The only way to fix this is to quit the app and rejoin the game. Very annoying for online play.
Still very fun to play, but still have a lot of glitches.
Great game, but the app is super buggy.
Love the mobile app versions features. It so fast, simple, and thorough compared to the tabletop version. We’ve relearned rules and actions to this game that we have completely missed playing it with others in person. Im grateful for what this app has taught us, but the app does glitch at times where the only course is to forfeit the match or leave the app. Once they fix it this will be the perfect way to learn TFM. This is a great game and deserves 5 stars. However there are a few cards that don’t work. Those are minor and will get fixed eventually. The reason we dropped our rating to 3 stars is a bug that has been there since the initial release and our friends and we have reported many times. When you complete a game there is no way to get rid of it from your games list. So if player abc is your friend that creates the games you play you end up with so many "abc’s game" that finding the right one can be very frustrating. Currently the only way to get rid of a finished game is to forfeit it. But that cost you a rating point. Please Twin Sails, instruct whomever is doing your maintenance to fix this bug. In the past, when we’ve put in a bug report, the help desk simply ask for the names of the "dead" games and they deleted them. Sure that fixed the problem short turn, but we should not have to turn in a bug report every time we want our dead games deleted! Please please please fix this annoying bug! Thank you, Hal Norman.
Solo campaign hangs at completion, never finishes. Many local v\p vs cpu games also hang and graphics overlay over menus and u cant close them. Have to quit game and restart the app.. Bad after playing for an hour. We like the game but for a paid game, it has way too many bugs.
Id give this game 4 stars ,except for the idiot fact you cannot play across two iPads on your own home WiFi network! Instead you have to use THEIR server and abide by their rediculous time limit. So, unless youre expert at the game and rush through your session, you will not be able to play this hot-seat on one iPad. There is no reason customers should have to rely on foreign servers when the capacity to play with someone else in the same household readily exists. Many other top boardgames for iPad OS permit this. Shameful. Update your software!
Love the game, but hate all the glitches. When playing on line the glitches where game is stuck means running out of lots of time. Needs to have a time limit for deciding on cards to draft – say 1 or 2 minutes tops so the game doesnt sit in limbo. Soooo very frustrating. Have to go out and then resume over and over again, while time runs out. After spending an hour of our life playing and then getting stuck in a glitch and then time runs out so unable to see the ending score – much less unable to finish playing – SOOOO FRUSTRATING! Why this hasnt been fixed already is beyond understanding. Only real way to finish a game is to play the computer. Please, PLEASE fix these issues!!
Its a solid game, its fun and a great representation of the board game that makes the accounting easier. Its frustrating to have so many bugs though, and some fixes generally led to new bugs. We dont feel its too much to ask for a paid app and expansion to work properly. We just know it could be better at times. * we appreciate the recent update (Jan 2023) but as usual we have noticed a few new glitches, in solo: First is when viewing cards played, they dont go away creating a soft lock that requires a forces shut down and restart. Then when placing a tile, the available hexes highlight but there is a soft lock preventing tile placement. Only solution is to exit the game. Since the most recent update (March 2023) the game doesnt end in solo mode. It displays thaw score but there is no return to menu or save score option. You can abandon the game, but it stays in your resume game section (only to do the same thing if you retry).
Playing against the bots seems fine, though Im not sure we would notice at this point whether all the rules were being followed or not. But in online play, there are too many glitches. Had several in our first game and Im almost afraid to have another game for fear that its going to be like this every time. Anybody know the odds of finishing a four or five player game without a glitch?
This is the buggiest app we’ve ever had in over 10 years of iPhones. It didnt use to be the case, but the bugs have been accelerating over the last couple of years. It regularly hangs when its your turn to move, with the timer going down but not letting you do any move. The in-game chat function no longer works (its still there, but if you try to post something you get a message that the chat function isnt available). And on and on. The only reason we gave it two stars is that the board game itself is excellent. But whoever is supporting this online version clearly doesnt have the resources to stay on top of all the bugs. Its very sad.
App has several bugs where when trying to place a tile the app freezes up, even when restarting the game if you select that tile again the game will continue to freeze. Many instances when you open a menu and try to dismiss it, it will stay up anyway, forcing you to reset the game.
We love the board game, and this digital adaptation is stellar, outside of one relatively major issue, which is that it freezes 100% of the time for us at the very end of the game! Its like the animation for score tallying bugs just before its about to begin counting. We’ve played five rounds now, all with minor tweaks to eliminate variables, and have never made it to the scoring successfully. It does however seem to work with single player local matches, as well as online matches. Is this something the developers have been made aware of? We will happily update our rating if there is a fix, or something we can do on our end to get around this bug! Thanks,
We previously enjoyed solo mode, but the last 3 updates have found new and exciting ways to break the games solo mode. Look at your hand? Now you have to restart game to place tiles. Original app was a different dev. Clearly latest dev (Twin Sails) doesnt have the same level of QC and bugtesting as previous devs.
Used to be after final score was talked there was a way to get out of therenow you just have to forfeit, or the game is still listed in your current games as if you are still in the middle of it. After you already won the game.
At least our third time playing this without being able to see our results. Waste of time and money.
So frustrating. 2nd time this has happened.
We love this game but it doesnt executes 70% of the time on the app. Period. It will either freeze, say your inactive because you looked at a text message or simply be stuck on 1 players turn for an hour (even with AI sub on) So, youll never be able to raise karma level cuz youll always have to leave the game and come back to get it to reloadif that even works. If you pull down an alert it will say you left. Wow Im done trying.
Local games freeze on final planting and then game with not reload. We now have multiple resume games in history that cannot load and scores will never be known. Potentially a great app but a total waste if you spend hours and never get a resolution.
Feels like the game never left alpha testing. Pressing several buttons to switch between elements quickly such as viewing game state and the deck often causes graphics of the first action to stay on the screen. Sometimes, it can be fixed by exiting to the main menu and reloading the save, but sometimes the app has to be restarted. These graphical issues have persisted for several years, even after the TM devs released a big update a few months ago. Its frustrating that what is otherwise a great port of the board game is ruined by graphical issues.
The board game of Terraforming Mars is great and well worth playing, but this app version is broken and very buggy. It is nearly unplayable online. We have only been able to finish about 20% of online games. The others we have had to forfeit because the app will not allow us to do anything other than watch our time tick away. We have had it be where we go to place a tile and it will not let us place it because it thinks the Cards Played screen is up over the map. This has been an issue so much that we do not open the Cards Played screen anymore. We have also had the cards not come up for selection during drafting phase more times than we can count. Looking for info online it sounds like these bugs have been getting worse with time and are not being addressed.
We love this board game and have been playing online for years with the hopes that at some point thing will get better. Nope, quite the opposite. Every update brings new bugs to find. Havent been able to finish a game in months because it keeps crashing or freezing or getting stuck. Totally disappointing and maddening.
Last 2 game we played failed to open when we reopened the game to play. Not sure we will play this anymore because of the game not working. We will request a refund due to no working product.
We’ve played online and local with friends and AI. In all games since marchs update we cant finish the game. The parameters are met to end the game and then the round ends. When the score should be tallying, the game freezes on the primary player or the 1st person of the new round. If we reload the app or uninstall reinstall the app – the game is stuck on the loading screen. All that time and effort lost due to a lack of ending. Our teammates and we are now forced to save our last round score via screenshots to add up points manually to figure out the winner. Very disappointing. Wont play again until fixed.
Completely garbage buggy on the new update!!!
We saw the negative reviews but we wanted to play single player only so bought it anyway. In our second game, one of the corporations bugged out and stopped getting their credits deducted for projects. They terraformed entire planet in that generation!
We love TM. Its a 5 star game. We despise this app. If we could give it lower than 1 star we would. It loses online games – we usually have a game up with our brother or friend (or both), and poof! Its gone. They say it turned to AI on their side. Even setting a 15 day timer, with 14+ days left, it just disappears. View Game State sometimes requires clicking a card for info text, click off, then maybe the button works. Not to mention randomly logging out. Or other issues. And watch out for updates; they also eat games.
Menus will sometimes persist during a game, even if we return to the main menu.

Terraforming Mara is an enjoyable board game, but this digital version is as unplayable as a big name app gets. Despite never adding new functionality or changes to the game itself (its still the same board game that was released a decade ago), the bugs just get worse and worse with every release. You will be lucky if you are able to finish even half of your games. Its such a waste of time to play for 2 hours only for the game to get stuck and not allow anyone to take any more actions on the last few generations. After years of slight improvements, the recent v2 update introduced a slew of new bugs that undid all of the improvements that had finally made the game tolerable.
We are completely unable to finish a single game in local mode because the game will freeze with 100% consistency upon the completion of the final turn, just prior to final planting and scoring. Literally unplayable, and in the worst possible way.
It was nice while it lasted. Now everything is "contact support" because an entry level zendesk reader is cheaper than an engineer dedicated to continuous regression testing across all supported devices. That a brilliant game can be so mismanaged by a mediocre corporation is everything wrong with the world.

There seem to be a few bugs that crop up with every release, and once one person upgrades with a new release nobody can finish the previous game, and there is no saved state maintained locally so the board gets rebuilt from history on every open, but aside from those difficulties, this is an excellent addition to your TM addiction.
The developers have done an amazing job taking a complex game and making it easy to play with the app. The preludes expansion is a real bonus, but we sincerely hope they figure out a way to add the colonies expansion!!! This is a must have when playing TM. Devs please, please you have to shoe horn the colonies expansion into this game! Ill pay you double for it.. Just offer it! :) Feb 2023, recent update broke some things. Cant view map when needed sometimes, and cant place cities on the board after playing a card that requires you to do so. Something went awry in the latest update hope they figure out what they screwed up.
When trying to place oceans or greenery using the Prelude expansion all our app would is make that screenshot-like sound and then nothing would be placed. We couldnt even zoom on the map. Please fix this. Great app when not using Prelude. What is going on? If its fixed, its a 5. But this error creates an impasse making the game broken.
Not a fan of the timer. We know we see our own timer running when the game is showing the moves of the opponent before us. Wut?
Our husband and we always play this game to distract, and lately, on both of our phones (iPhone and Samsung), when we finish the game and have one more round to put the remaining greenery tiles, the game frozen. We cant do anything and it is very frustrating. Weve tried many times and we cant finish it. Please, take a link for bugs in the game. We will change our rating when it is fixed, because we truly love the game!
