The Eyes of Ara Reviews

We bought this game when it came out, but it has taken us this long to finally beat it. We deleted it for a long while out of frustration, but recently decided to try again. Because it is a beautiful game. Hard? Yes, but well thought out. A very engaging story. With that in mind: The reviewers complaining about the worthless collectibles have missed the heart of the game. Go back and read the header of the letter hiring you for the job.

Point and click escape/puzzler out there. World is vast and puzzles are super challenging and inventive. We’ve played them all from the Rusty Lake series, Glitch Games, CottonGame, and this one just might beat all of those. Hoping for more.

We wanted to love this game and felt that way about most of it (graphics, soundtrack, storyline), BUT the puzzles were so hard we had to keep a walk thru handy while playing. Toward the end we just completely gave up because the walkthrough wasnt helpful and couldnt spend any more time fussing over this game. That said, still worth it to try playing,

We started to play, the graphics were great, but then Im not picky. For us the important part is the volume(it helps set the scene) and the puzzles. Well, the intro was silent, we thought, maybe this is just the way the opening scene is, but then it continued. We would love to place this, but we like music and sound effects when Im playing a game. It doesnt matter what it is, music sets it up. Without the sound, its a boring video. Maybe, if the problem was fixed. Id finish playing, as it stands, Im disappointed that we paid for something we wont be using.

If you manage to finish all of The Room series, House of Da Vinci series and all the games from Glitch Games, you can get by playing this game without any hints for most of the part. You would know where to look and what to expect. As the game progresses, it gets more difficult and challenging. It can take hours to solve which what makes this game last a very long while. A few hints are coming from reading virtual journals in the game. Map is not needed for this game after you got stuck for so long period of time because by then you already know your way around. The graphic details are top notch but the transitional movements are OK and not so fluid. It has that awkward fade in and out when it should be 3D transitional movement all the way. Overall its very immersive game and absolutely a very challenging (and somewhat frustrating) game we ever played.

Graphics and puzzles (which are challenging) are awesome. Adventurous, suspenseful and unpredictable. Different puzzles take you to different rooms and down different paths and we enjoy having to put it all together and figure it out. One of the best games.

Possibly the most lushly artistic and challenging game we’ve ever played in a league with The Room 1,2, etc or House of DaVinci, but quite likely better. Im eight hours in (addictiveness warning!) and every time a door opens to a new room we are startled and amazed by all that is there to see. BUT READ THIS: Yesterday, we were frustrated over what we thought was a bug in the software, and after 30 minutes of clicking we zipped off a complaint to the developer website. We HEARD BACK THE SAME DAY from Ben, who we think is the games creator, and in a back-and-forth conversation of about 5 emails, he showed us that there was no bug we just hadnt noticed a slight change in the cavernous rooms surroundings that indicated all was fine. His emails were not only responsive and instant but friendly, respectful and clear. And he didnt stop answering our questions until he knew he had us back on the right track. This is the first game review we have ever written, but How Not? Both the game and the responsiveness of the website to just one players little problem truly blow our mind. Its totally greatTry it! OK, we want to stop praising and go back to playing now. Cheers.

This game is in a class of its own. Detailed artwork, intelligent puzzles, lots of rooms in this gorgeous castle to explore… Wow. Its clear that the devs put an insane amount of work into this. And its a challenge! A wonderfully clever challenge that creative thinkers will enjoy. Its not for the faint of heart or hint-hopper. Non-linear adventure games like this are so rare nowadays. And even rarer on the iPad. So reviews complaining that its too hard are sad to see. But when slowing down & taking notes… This game is creatively logical. Obv we have tremendous respect and gratitude for these developers. They deserve 5 stars and positive reviews. Cheers.

During these crazy pandemic end times were going through here in the US, its a lovely thing to be able to get lost in this game for a few hours. Highly recommended, even if you have to use a walkthrough guide to solve some of the more difficult challenges.

Fantastic!! Great controls, hard puzzles and goes on forever!! Figuring out where all the hidden treasures are is super fun. Hints are very logic based, just need a little patience. Loved this game! Cant wait for more!!

Took our husband & us 16 hours to finish, but such a fun way to spend those hours. We got stuck quite a bit but still was a great game. Big fan of the Room & DaVinci series, so this was entertaining as well. Sometimes a hint button would have been good, but still – thanks for a fun game!

Our gut told us this game was going to be incredible and we are NOT disappointed. The puzzles are much more complex than a regular stage based 3D puzzle game because all of the stages in this game run together as one beautifully massive gaming experience! 5 freaking stars! Spend the 5 bucks! It a one time infinitesimally small fee for a complete submersible experience!

This is by far the best game we’ve played on ipad.

Love this game. The puzzles are a challenge but not impossible. Music is also enjoyable. Well done developers!

Point and click escape/puzzler out there. World is vast and puzzles are super challenging and inventive. We’ve played them all from the Rusty Lake series, Glitch Games, CottonGame, and this one just might beat all of those. Hoping for more.

We’ve played lots of adventure games, hidden object games, and puzzle games and this is by far the most challenging we’ve come across. But very rewarding as well. Will be hard to top this game.

Beautifully immersive puzzle. An almost endless mansion of secrets to explore.

This game is so amazing in every way, the graphics, the story line, the puzzles, we loved it. One of the best games we’ve ever played. Our only complaint is that we had a lot of trouble with the last chapter, usually we enjoy a challenge, but this went beyond a challenge, it felt near impossible, especially without hints.

We are writing a 2nd review because we were too quick to judge this game on our first review. Our apologies to the creators, we thought because this game has no help w hints or clues that it would be impossible to move forward. But what it did is make us think even harder and use our sense of logic and curiosity a bit more. The clues are technically within the game . Its a wonderful well thought out journey, great story line, creepy enough but not scary, and really well thought out games . For a true mystery gamer this is the best one yet. The graphics are great too. Well done and hope they come out w more. You wont regret sticking to it.

Its a beautiful game, and very deep with the amount of rooms and story. Unfortunately, some of the puzzles are too involved and the components are so spread out, we found we couldnt get by without looking up a walkthrough video. Even then, after the planetarium level, we just lost interest in finishing. A hint system, a map, and a scaling down, and this would be a very fun game.

We initially was really into playing this game and enjoyed it up to the end. It became really convoluted particularly the planetarium puzzle and the epilogue where math had to be done. Then realizing we didnt have all of items. We dreaded having to go back thru all the locations to figure out where the were, so we didnt.

This game will challenge you. Your perception, your intellect, your patience, your persistence, your sanity. Youll almost certainly open a guide or turn on highlighting before the end of your journey here – we believed we wouldnt, but did. This is no Room – its less linear, and less straightforward. Its also almost perfect. We love the idea of a world that slowly opens itself up as you start to unravel it, finding hidden shortcuts as your mastery improves. There are touches of that in this old castle. There are also clues in places you may not expect – but everything in the main line fits and fits well, and boasts an engaging story. We say almost because theres a bit too much randomness involved – randomly clicking on the tops or bottoms of containers is eventually unavoidable, which undermines confidence in the final product here, that everything has a place and makes its own sense. Thats crucial in a game with this much detail. Still, we are splitting hairs. Overall, we truly enjoyed our time.

Great kinetics and well put together but hard to finish without having to find tutorials on YouTube. Missing hint features. Also some puzzles are just too hard to solve for the average player. Could make it a 5 star app.

This game is good but has some flaws. The opening scene is absolutely stunning as are the games graphics. But first, when moving around the mansion, it would have been nice if the doors were marked to maneuver better. You waste too much time trying to remember what door leads to what room. Second, the pattern in the ceiling game… We clicked a few panels in the beginning without knowing the sequence. When we DID get the sequence we came back and did it perfectly but nothing happened. We later found out that the panels HAD to be in their original starting positions THEN do the sequence. That is ridiculous! It shouldnt matter which way the panels are facing, once you get the proper sequence, it should work. We wasted an hour because of this. Finally, near the end of the game their is a frequency modulator that you have to dial in correctly. That in itself was fun BUT playing with an iPad, you place your finger in the needle to move it but you cannot see where you are moving it too since the needle is small and your finger is blocking your view. AND The needles placement has to be so precise that if you are off a hair, it will not work. Shouldnt need it to be THAT precise. Also, many clues are vague and hints should be provided. We release the eyes are supposed to help but this is minimal. Unfortunately had to quit the game near the end as couldnt find last triangle piece even though we went through YouTube videos. Could have been a great game, but…

This is a great game, awesome graphics and music but why arent there any hints??? It is very easy to get lost in the castle and we finally had to look for a walkthrough to move on.

We got to a point where if we zoom in to solve a puzzle our inventory goes away and it does not come back .

Love this game, just wish it wasnt glitchy! We cant get past the clock puzzle because its glitching. We’ve wasted hours at this point trying to make it work.

This was probably the hardest puzzle we’ve ever done. Frustrating at times, but somewhat fun. We got stuck a number of times and needed help from a walk through, which on past puzzles, we didnt have to do that often. A lot of the clues were not that helpful. It was fun at times, but we really cant recommend this puzzle. Ill probably avoid anything from this developer in the future. Nice try though.

We have played this beautiful game four times and each time we get to the point where you take the stairs down from the other side of the second level, The game will not allow us to go downstairs and get the blue globe or to bring the shield to complete the puzzle that provides the other blue globe. The first game we were allowed to play all the way through until we were not able to access the final series of puzzles because we didnt have all six globes to pass through the door. We assumed at some point we would be allowed through to finish the first puzzle but it never happened. The story is intriguing, the puzzles are challenging and the atmosphere is gorgeous. Just cant finish the game and we can find no bug fixes or anyone else who has reported this problem. Too bad. It would have been a five star rating for us.

The game itself runs well and looks good. We wanted to like this game more than we ended up doing. Our main problem is with the puzzles. We like hard puzzles so our complaint has nothing to do with difficulty, its the quality. A good puzzle makes sense and many puzzles in this game just dont (looking at you orrery room).

We love these types of games but this one has some frustrating problems. It is beautiful and clever, but vague and spread out, no hints or a map, and some of the puzzles are ridiculous. Its also too dark and buggy; our collected items and pages kept disappearing for no reason, coming back only upon restart. Unless you love running around somewhat disoriented in near darkness a great deal, pixel hunting ad nauseam for every morsel of info, this game will feel more like a chore. It would be far more enjoyable if the creators would add some ambient lighting, the occasional hint, and fix the bugs. As it is, it is nearly impossible to complete without a walkthrough. On the plus side, it is also lengthy and original. But for gods sake, add a map!

We got through the first two chapters without using cheats. Got to the third and we cant even move in there without looking up cheats. And even then, its still super difficult. Some of the solutions are still making us scratch our head. If you download the game, enjoy the first two chapters but know it might be impossible to get to the end.

Its certainly one of the more ambitious Myst / The Room style games, however in the ambition and complexity lies the problem. Too many things that are just there to do, that dont seem to have much to do with the actual plot (which all things considered, Im still not sure what the actual plot was…) Further, its extremely difficult at times to even see what or where you are supposed to go or do next. More often we found myself mindlessly tapping until something might have happened — this we find to be a problem with a lot of these style games. In the traditional Myst Games, the scene was simple in its interaction, but could be complex in layers of simplicity. "The Room" series is 99% on point with this, as was "Agent A", however in this game the interactions are vague and ambigious, and complex — there is no seeming reason why we should twist or touch something, and often times our touch isnt even registering because it isn’t specific enough, so Ill find myself consulting the walkthrough and go "but we just did that…". The House of DaVinci was like this as well, and we never actually finished it either. The game was made with a lot of love, thats clear, but the puzzles and side puzzles (and we cant stand side puzzles and quests…) just confuse and obfuscate the objective. We think that this game could correct a lot of that by not having the scenes being panoramic, but instead static. What am we looking at, and why? What is in front of us? Etc… Wish we could give a bit more, but Im a but bummed at the gameplay. Thanks for the offering, and best wishes in future developements!

The title says it all. Too much work, and too much tedious trial and error when solving puzzles, even if you know how they are to be solved. Not always clear when you solved something (missing feedback at times), leading to lots of running back and forth to check. No in-game clues, so have to depend on walkthroughs if stuck. Items do not disappear when picked up, so lots of wasted time picking up things you have seen before. Clues and such stay in inventory even after they are used and no longer relevant, creating bothersome clutter to pick through when reviewing clues. Requires advanced math and physics skills in some sense. Beautiful graphics, but long-winded narratives to read through, making the game a real slog. On some levels, just orienting yourself to move where you want to go can be a challenge. Often did not know which way we were facing, and spent many boring minutes just trying to get to a place we were before. We just wanted the game to be over at the end having invested the time. As we write, we have only a few steps, and almost want to stop even then, because it is so tedious.

This is the first time we had to google a walk through for a game. We should have read the reviews first because it seems that many others did the same. So with that our review is similar in that while its interesting and graphics are great, the actual figuring out the game not so much. Not sure why certain things needed to be collected because many things were not needed in the end and clues for puzzles were not helpful at all.

We really enjoy the exploration experience of this game. We are frustrated by its failure to work well on our phone. There are a number of situations where objects collected are used to open puzzles. The Sabre (properly configured) took many attempts to engage the clock dial. We’ve now collected all six green gems but after trying multiple times to use them in the dial, which clearly has a ring of matching receptors, we still cannot get them to work. These problems completely destroy the ability to enjoy playing this game. IPhone 8 users beware. Maybe a newer phone would work.. We’ve given up and am writing of the money spent to a learning experience!

This game has a good length. There are a few times where we could not get something to happen. Truth is we can not remember what it was. However, we are at an impasse. In chapter 3, in the projector and constellation room. We made the adjustments to match Draco the Dragon constellation. The lights turned green. Proceeded to the single computer. The lights stopped being green. We tried accessing Access Denied. We concidered that it might be a glitch and could continue with game. We went ahead and was able to reboot the 3 computers. Went back. Access denied. Went back to projector constellation room. Reset the Draco the Dragon constellation. No green lights and still cannot access the single computer. We have turned off and restarted iphone 2 times. Think have done all. Except remove and reinstall the app. And restart game. Annoying. This game has a good length. No sense of direction as what to do next, we ended up just clicking everywhere. The graphics are cool we guess but most of them you cant interact with. Not worth $5 compared to other games we’ve paid the same amount for.

We cannot insert the knife in the clock – the smaller ceiling fleur de leis puzzle wont work- there is no note with second puzzle part, Frustrating.

After having gone through the game twice we reluctantly followed through using one of the walkthroughs with the same result. At the green door the left lever slot will not accept the lever. Im stuck.

We’ve played tons of these games but this one is way too complicated. The graphics are beautiful and we wanted to like this game. We ended up deleting after finishing about half of it. Even with a walkthrough we couldnt get it. The biggest issue is movement. A lot of these puzzles require you to go back and forth between multiple rooms. So you to the hallway and now there are five doors that look exactly the same. And some of those doors lead to more doors. So its super tedious to remember which door you need to go to and which one to go back to. Some of the puzzles didnt need to be solved to move on, so we wasted time on those. The other annoying thing is the coins and photos you collect which seem to be worthless. You finally solve a puzzle you think will help you move on and its a couple of worthless coins. A better mapping system would help so you could open a map and move directly to the room would help. Either way started forcing myself to play bc we paid for it only to get annoyed quickly and frankly not caring about it at all. Beautiful graphics though.

When youre stuck trying to figure out the next step, its hard to figure out. There are no hints to help.

Besides the graphics and the basis of the game being great, there is absolutely no way to figure out what you have to do and where to do it and how to get there. So your just supposed to go around tapping on literally everything, to see if something happens!!!????? Very frustrating and waste of money!!!

Beautiful graphics but we like games that challenge us. A little boring not as active. Example, we move to a room and look around but we cant do nothing but look. In one big room we pick up one item then we apply it and thats it, time to move to the next room. Maybe great for little kids.

Very simple interface that rewards spam clicking than thought. Lots of annoying travel between clue pieces, and very little depth to puzzles. Seems like a cheap knockoff of games like the room.

Impossible to navigate. What a waste of money. Who rated this so high? Ugggg.

Terrible to play on your phone. Unless u dont mind tapping every single pixel on every screen in the game. U can turn on the highlights but we didnt notice them helping much. Save your money, wish we had.
