Description

The Quest is a beautifully hand-drawn open world role playing game with old school grid-based movement and turn based combat.

In the kingdom of Monares trouble is brewing. The governor of Freymore is missing and the island is in tumult. The mages all prophesy a dark shadow looming over the safety of the kingdom. As an Agent of the king, it’s your job to find out what is happening and avert any danger.

Choose from five customizable races and an array of skills, weapons, armor and enchantments, and explore a huge world of four cities and a wilderness of mountains, caves, lakes and forests – full of mystery, magic and intriguing challenges. Meet the many inhabitants, each with its own agenda and attitude towards your character. Some will be helpful, some greedy or lascivious or just plain mean. You will have many choices, including some that may place you against the law, along your way to the dramatic ending of your own choosing.

Key Features:

  • Pursue a long and dramatic main story and solve many optional side quests.
  • Create a highly customizable character and cast dazzling spells, enchant powerful items, concoct potent potions and persuade people to further your goals.
  • Discover an open world with interesting locales, day/night cycle, weather, fascinating people, dangerous creatures, readable books, pick-able locks, repairable items, houses that can be broken into, dungeons, traps and much more.
  • Play an absorbing card game with three different decks, accessible at the inns.

Updated on 14th March 2023

  • Required version for the ‘Cursed Chess Set’ expansion.

The Quest Reviews

Great game, very deep and it takes a lot to accomplish some quests. Our only advice would be to not give up on it right away… It took us a little time to figure things out and we almost quit too soon. But once you get the hang of how things work (alchemy, resistances, etc) it really opens up into a great RPG experience.

We had low expectations for this since times have changed so much from classic RPGs to what we have now. That being said we play this game more than anything on our gaming PC or on our PS4. Its incredibly addicting and loads of fun. The card game is amazing in itself and we spend hours playing that alone. Well worth the money. We cant wait to get into the expansions! Im so glad theres so many of them! This isnt a time filler game; its a game you make time for. Kudos, Devs!

This game is entertaining, several classes to choose from, open world environment, wont kill you in 60secs,good game.

We have just about every expansion to The Quest (now called Classic), simply because there is so much to do you can easily spend several hundred hours alone on this game. We bought the new and improved Quest because why not? Its the best thing on the App Store ever! The drawings are more crisp and clear, the movements are more smooth, and we even noticed several gameplay improvements from the Classic, such as the card game AI seems to be not much of a pushover anymore (small things like that). We havent played that much on this new game (but we still bought four expansions), but there are a few things that keep this review from becoming the five star it deserves. No map markers to show quest points, no updating journals (or even a description of where the objectives are located), a few other nitpicking details that just seems odd not to have on here, especially with an updated game. Dont get us wrong, this isnt a game ending problem (although later on in the game, especially on the expansions, quest locations are far apart and sometimes complicated), but you WILL need to write certain objectives down in order to keep track of what you need to do. Once you forget only google will save you.

Playing on an iPad and there is not sound??!

Im not sure what the last reviewer was looking for. This is no Diablo, but for a great RGP experience you can play on a phone with one hand, there is no better. Stories are entertaining, and the battles are challenging. Great expansions too, and lots of them. Easy to play for 5 minutes or for 30. And turn based is good for us. If we have a couple of hours to invest at a time, we also play more challenging RPGs. But for casual gaming, Redshift games are perfect.

Very fun to play and the card games are not rigged lol just takes skill to play.

This game borrows a lot from classic CRPGs of the 90s. Unfortunately, it also borrows a lot of the bad things that were largely bred out of modern RPGs for a reason: no quest map markers, lackluster (and largely non-updating) quest journal, very monotonous turn-based combat, nonsensical quest endings, time wasting quests, non-disarmable traps, etc. The game really tries to give that Daggerfall vibe. But, it just feels like the questionable design decisions hold it back from being entertaining.

Card games are rigged and computer cheats.

Scrolls and wands are cargo, quests that are completed are not labeled as such. Save your money.

On all the games related to The Quest and The Quest Classic games. We suddenly lost all sounds after updating our Apple iPad Pro and our Apple 6S phone. The latest update version is 11.0.3. We love playing the series, but not much fun without the sound affects and the music. Please could you look into it? Thank you!

It’s basically like a might and magic game — wish it got as intense and as in depth as the old wizardry games — why doesn’t someone take this format all the way ? They would make a killing.

Very jagged and boring. Save your money and play something else.

If you were like us and saw all the glowing reviews for this game and are about to pull the trigger on buying it, we’ll be the grain of salt review: First off, we can see why people like this; it DOES appeal to old-school RPG fans. We love old-school games, we’re in our 30s and grew up with Lands of Lore. But like all things nostalgic, the gameplay of these "old" games (The Quest isn’t old, we’re aware) just isn’t immersive anymore. If you can bring yourself to overlook clunky movement controls, clunky combat, clunky dialogue, then by all means, pick up this game. Combat consists of clicking an attack button ~20 times, maybe a potion, and waiting for the enemy to take their turn in between. There is no fluidity. The map reveals itself in chunks with no waypoints for quests; yes that’s old-school, but old-school games weren’t in a sandbox as big as this one, so you get disoriented. And if you are playing any other games, leaving and coming back to remember what you’re to do or where to go is a wash. The quests are traditional in that they follow all the tropes. Which takes the wind out of the "unique" statements others have made. Maybe go watch a Lets Play for 10 minutes and then decide.

We love this game, it just needs the expansions that the classic game has. The main quest is kind of short, about to finish fire and ice, and start on hero of Luko. Just please get all of the expansions. Other than that it a wonderful game.

This game is fantastic in so many ways, great replay value, huge world and if you actually take the time to read the text a pretty interesting world to walk around in. Keep the HD expansions coming guys we love it.

Thank you guys for the HD reboot to one of our favorite games of all time. You guys kick anus! Keep it up Update: The low rated reviews seem to all be people whom can’t understand the game, didn’t get from the screen shots that it was hand drawn sprite based graphics, or are just in general saying, "I’m really bad at gaming and this is hard! Two stars!" Don’t rate a game low based on your suckery at said game… Jebus Crisp.

Trip down memory lane. Absolutely love this game.

We own pretty much all of the classic expansions and debated on buying the iPad version. It is fantastic! The artwork is great, gameplay is faster, and some new features. Our favorite is the toggle between 2 sets of gear. We have a bow in one set and dual wielded swords in the other. Our only complaint: we’re almost done with Fire and Ice! Port some more Expansions! Thanks for a great game.

We just finished playing The Quest and its sequel, Islands of Ice and Fire, back-to-back. Like one huge, and hugely fun game. The world of the game becomes very real – funny parts made us laugh (they never tried to be cute) and many of the quests were genuinely anxiety provoking. There is lots of support in various communities on the web. The Quest is one of the best games we’ve played on any system. It is particularly well suited to our phone. We don’t know what the heck we’ll do on the train tomorrow! Bravo Redshift!

We have only been playing for an hour or so but so far it’s a gorgeous game. Extra props for not requiring landscape as well! We can tell the game is going to be rich and in depth so we’re looking forward to our 6 hour flight tomorrow. The hand drawn graphics are pretty incredible and the storyline is pretty cool. Our only gripe is that the controls are kind of wonky and only allow you to move using the right thumb. If that could be improved this would be perfect!

Rich graphics. Challenging tasks. Great story. Hours of fun. We highly recommend it.

For such a generic title, this game is surprisingly unique. It’s so rare to find an HONEST mobile game of this caliber, that we would happily pay double the price. We originally purchased expecting it to be a light turn-based dungeon crawler (like old school D&D games), and found that it was so much more. The amount of dynamic content, mechanics, and the open world exploration, made us feel like we were playing Morrowind on our phone. So many skills and customizations that the developer(s) could have omitted, but chose to include add so much flavor to the game (mechanics clearly inspired by TES series), such as alchemy and item-repair, and even the RP skills like persuasion. Our only complaint is that the world can be difficult to navigate on the fly, since your map has a limited range, so it definitely takes some thought. Other than that, we would recommend this game for someone looking for a casual or hardcore RPG experience, because it really fits the bill for both. It’s a purchase well-worth the money.

We really like this game, it’s solid and fun to explore. If you’re looking for an rpg customized to phone, I’d recommend this.

Reminiscent of the Elder Scrolls series, but with a unique art style and turn-based gameplay. Open world RPG with tons of lore, quests, skills, magic, items and a unique art style. Give it a shot if you like oldschool RPGs or The Elder Scrolls series.

Great way to while away a rainy afternoon.

It’s almost impossible to find a GOOD RPG for IOS. By good, we mean a game with a good story that keeps you entertained until the end and is not a money sink. The Quest is an excellent RPG in the same vain as Might and Magic or Wizardry (but only one player). Decent graphics, good story that stays interesting to the end and There are NO in app purchases in this game! If you like a good old fashioned RPG, give this a shot!

We love this game! Graphics are simple, but gameplay adventure quality is excellent. Will recommend to anyone seeking an old school RPG similar to Elder Scrolls Arena or Unlimited Adventures: Neverwinter Nights. We are very happy with this game. It is a lot of fun to play.

The graphics are sprite-based and distractingly bad. The quests are very fragile, with character interactions missing key info. You’ll often find yourself making your way back to a character only to have them act like you haven’t done the part of the quest you just completed, seeming to block forward progress. Very frustrating and slow to make basic progress. You’ll wander for hours, do all the things you were told and end up blocked by glitchy quest completion dialogue. Combat is simplistic and boring. Also seriously unbalanced.

We have a level nine character that we may have to get rid of he is poisoned and we have no potions and it’s night so we can’t buy any either poisen effects should wear off on they’re own we shouldn’t have to delete our character.

We think it needs an easier difficulty for casual players.

So far we’re enjoying movement and combat and really enjoying the interactions with npcs. Great work.

We highly recommend you check this game out if you are debating whether or not to play. For the developers, please make more of the expansion packs HD. Thank you. We will buy every one.

As someone who loves The Elder Scrolls games, we wanted something similar to play on our phone, and boy did this game deliver. It’s everything a TES fan could ask for, specially for mobile since there aren’t many good examples of traditional RPGs on the AppStore. To the character creation to massive amounts of quests you can do, The Quest is a enthralling experience, only getting better the more you play, and with beautiful hand drawn graphics. The only things we could ask to make the game more convenient to the player is to add iCloud sync to upload/download saves, and some sort of "quick save" button to avoid entering the main menu just to save (which needs to be done very often)

We really enjoy The Quest HD. However, with it being supported across iPhone and iPad it would be really nice to incorporate an iCloud or similar save system so that games can be saved on one device and continued on another. Who wouldn’t enjoy playing their game on the go and then picking it up later on a larger screen? Add a save and it would be perfect.

We’re used to newer rpgs like skyrim, but we found this to be a lot of fun. Only wish there was a better map and quest log, because half of our time is spent wondering, but that might be part of the old school appeal.

The Quest was obviously a labor of love, and for you to come back years later and update it to HD is extraordinary. You have our heartfelt thanks and respect for being such a fine example for all of us. We can’t wait to see The Quest II.

The original Quest series remains one of the best RPGs for iOS. The HD version gave it a visual makeover that improved on a near perfect game. Can’t wait for the rest of the expansions to catch up.

We love these games. Improved graphics make it awesome!! Way to go redshift!

Buy it! We like the art style, and the core game play.

Enjoying the better graphics! Fun game. Tough when it doesn’t give ya a quest compass. Pro tip* listen to the DOOM4 soundtrack while ya play. … While ya do anything for that matter…

Been a fan since Palm OS. Sometimes there is a lot of walking involved, and sometimes the puzzles are very esoteric (colors of a real-world flag with no in-game clues?), but it is always engrossing and there is a nice community to reach out for help.

Love this game so much that this is the third time buying it!

We played the original and we’re loving it in HD. There are several utilitarian improvements and the grittier story elements feel a little more sincere with these improved graphics. Can’t wait for the expansions! Request: expansions as paid DLC would be preferable to having to download 10+ different quest apps, since the HD versions take up more space.

First off. We love this game. Unfortunately though we didn’t know I’d be missing out on all the add-ons included in the gold version for the same price. :(

We appreciate the work and care that went into this, but it ended up feeling tedious rather than fun. Big explorative environments and lots of characters traits are big plusses, but the first person view and spinning around got hold quick and the combat wasn’t very interesting.

We love your game and we have played it before. But when you try and talk to Bogur about his wife not coming with you, he just says go find her! In the older version he would have been furious and asked you to drug her, not act delirious and leave you standing like,"What do we do now?" Please fix this please, thank you. From, Nathan.

Love your game,,, but not able to use NPC profile pics,, we update but see no change, help please ,,, thank you.

Thank you very much for this. Now add the Ice &Fire Expansion for a fee, please.
