Hear from the Players – The Shadow Sun Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about The Shadow Sun:

Really enjoyed it, intriguing story (story is VERY important and far too many developers completely ignore it), graphics look great, the controls are easy to use. The in-app purchases are optional dlc, which imo is (at their low price and decent quality) reasonable even in a paid game. We wish there was a sequel, though.

Great game, great story, light on the tutorial but thats a good thing, wastes less time, and allows the players to discover things for themselves. What is the long and remarkable story for another time?. Eagerly and hopefully awaiting a response.

If your looking for a great rpg this is it so far the best we’ve played on iOS.

Super impressed, this game has a very classic RPG feel and style, if youre a old school gamer, youll like this game.

A solid RPG with a great story, decent combat system, and a interesting set of enemies and areas to explore. On top of that, you also get an amazing Ancient Mesopotamia/Babylonian theme, that is rarely ever seen in other games. Replay-able if you want to do more side quests, or try different options with NPC interactions during they main quest line, and if you just want to replay the game. Overall a great game without any real issues.

Game worked great on iPhone 10. Waiting on the sequel to see more of the realm and northern kingdoms. It may be worth considering putting in more side quests for our strapping adventurer to experience. :)

When we play the game we get kicked out we think you should fix this till then waste of our money.

We have hard time navigating . These games are hard to control.

We hope they update the game FPS.

But we got this game for free, so that might skew our review a bit. We loved the game. We think the controls were good, the leveling up system was rewarding and we enjoyed the story. A very deep story if you want it to be, but you can beat the game without it as well. We liked it so much, that we were looking for another game by the developer to purchase, but don’t see one. We hope you enjoy the experience that we had.

The game is beautiful, with varied, if not completely original, locations. Combat is fun, switching between magic and melee, and there is a good deal of balanced customization and weapon variety. The menus and maps are great, and the controls are as good as it gets on a touchscreen. The story and voice work are just okay, but certainly above average for mobile rpgs. This is a console/PC style game on your tablet, and it works. We had a blast during our nine hour play through, and we would certainly buy a sequel.

Update: You will mostly likely enjoy this game. The more we play it the more fun it is. Most games we get bored of in minutes on our phone these days or they don’t hold our attention for too long; this game has surprised us by its depth and how fleshed-out it is–more so than we initially thought. We admit that for a while when we were playing this game we let myself be influenced by the other reviews that it was generic; it’s actually one of the best RPGs we’ve played on our phone. It reminds us of Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls and other games. Old: Then you may like this game. It’s not particularly special or exceptional, but it’s neat so far. We like the graphics and the dialogue isn’t bad. We haven’t played it very long but we have a good impression of it so far. We haven’t gotten any of the starter packs but they don’t seem necessary. The customization is nice and the story is engaging enough. We only wish the tutorial was better and that you could customize your character’s appearance a little more. Overall pretty good.

This game is well worth the purchase for us, with a lot to explore and fight, and a story that helps keep us wanting to investigate the next area. It is interesting that it all takes place in and around just one city-state, but the story puts you in the midst of many countries and events outside that one city. Anyway, the combat is good, the dialogue is engaging, and the RPG system is fleshed out with plenty of variety in upgrades and items.

The people that made this game were the same behind baldur’s gate and deagon age. Need we say more? We admit we had high expectations when we first downloaded this game for this very reason. And we must say we were not disapointed. There is not one single spot where we can place a finger and say this or that feature is the reason why this game is great. Its just the synergistic effect of story depth, beautifuly organized skill system, excellent character creation. Nice graphics, gameplay etc. So just like in baldur’s gate or dragon age we say these are the best rpg games ever made period. Just like this game is the best rpg for iphone period. We hope more people buy this game and support the team so they can bring us more of these games. Thank you.

This game was really addictive and fun. We would recommend playing this game if you love RPGs.

This game is great if you love the elder scrolls, chatter customization is minimal but make up in stats and skills. The game has a full story, no adds, and is 100% free. It’s very enjoyable and has plenty of quests to keep you busy. This is the one game that we’ve been looking for ages. It has minor bugs and a few glitches. But it’s not going to mess with the gameplay too much. We recommend this game. Like seriously… Get it.

One of the best games we’ve played so far. Now the story is great, in the ending cutscene it mentioned a sequel will you make it? We hope if you can respond. We would totally recommend this game for RPG fans!

We really enjoyed the depth of this saga. We must confess that we did not read any of the extensive back story legend, but the play was still excellent. Challenging side plots and demanding game. Really enjoyable.

We really enjoyed this game. It was a well written and fun RPG. We hope they come out with a sequel soon!

If you enjoy Dragon Age 2 and similar RPGs this is right up your alley. Great graphics for an iPhone, great story, tons of quests and a pretty good replay ability value. We’re hoping for more from Ossidian on IOS!

This was a really fun little RPG, now it’s no Baldur’s Gate 2, but we really enjoyed playing through it. At first we didn’t like the combat, but once we got the hang of it it was fine. Played as a stealthy rogue sneak attacking and then transitioning to a bow. Had a very interesting western RPG story, but as we’re sure has been mentioned, the ending sets up an obvious sequel. But checking the developers website, we see no evidence of a sequel being created. Therefore the ending rings a bit hollow as it’s obvious that the developers were planning on a sequel. Kind of a " Oh you thought we were the bad guy?" Type moment. All nit-picks aside we really enjoyed this and recommend to anyone interested in western RPGs, just takes a bit to get used to the fast combat. Clicking the companion portrait pauses the game FYI, helpful during combat, took us about half the game to figure that out. This studio has made some excellent modules for the Neverwinter Nights games, so there definitely is some talent there. Definitely a solid 4 out of 5. Hopefully they have plans for more games, but it may never happen.

Immersive with good artwork and dialogue and gameplay, but too easy on medium, especially the final boss. Also it was too short.

We have played this game all the way through, and have used all the player combination/tandems. And we think we have found all the secrets, which makes this issue that more bizarre. In the final sequence when you enter the palace and are warned that you cannot return to the city, it makes no sense that you can collect dropped items inside the palace. Since exiting the palace means an automatic end to the game (only way ‘out’ is to defeat the last bad guy and talk to the dazed emperor, which leads to the ending sequence, and then straight to the game credits), we don’t see the benefits of picking up rubies and other items – unless we have yet to discover something to do in between killing the last sorcerer and speaking to the emperor. It would be much better to make the palace sequence, which is essentially the boss level, exceedingly difficult, while eliminating all pickups and power ups in the palace. Meh. Still a decent game though.

Our starter pack items won’t restore so we can use them on a character that we just created on the iPad, literally our only complaint thus far. All of other aspects seem great so far though.

Another average overrated RPG. Nothing special here.

Game is good, great graphics and story, but it’s just too short… If u like RPGs you should definitely get this game.

We bought all the starter packs and still hated it. Spent about 2hrs total in game and just couldnt get into it. Our first complaint is that there is virtually NO tutorial. Our second complaint is that making money is so difficult but everything from vendors is expensive. It took us 2 hours and selling all our gear and everything we picked up from fights and sparkly spots to afford an 11g dagger. Our 3rd complaint, that is a bit of our 2nd complaint again is we spent our 4 health pots within the first 2 fights. Getting 1 health pot from a vendor is 2g. You see above our description of how difficult and time consuming getting gold is though. So it got to the point where even doing fights was difficult because we were under equipped with no hp pots and couldnt afford anything. Overall we find it was a waste of time. Also the spiders hop out of nowhere and are creepy as all hell.

Thanks for the new content! Love this game. Great rpg. One of our favorite mobile games.

This game has some of the worst voice acting we have ever heard but if you ignore this aspect, you are in for a fun ride. Great rpg skill tree, easy combat controls, good story line and beautiful animation make this one of the best role playing games out there.

This game is Amazing. Great story and a Beautiful soundtrack. We really hope this story continues with a sequel.

Really enjoying. Delightfully surprised. Especially since very reasonably priced for hours of enjoyment.

Stumbled upon his game accidentally, and we have no regrets. The animation and graphics may not be very visually advanced, but the game has a solid core and great story. To put it simply, it’s fun. We like the secrets that are hidden all around the game (especially the hidden door in the emperors palace that gave us Lifestealer, the best weapon in the game). The game is also funny and witty but also serious, which is what we like in a game. Overall great rpg, and story is amazing. Sequel please? Maybe include Davorn’s story in there. Could Florencia be alive, we wonder? Who knows. We want to enact some vengeance on that pirate captain that Davorn hates.

Great game. Epic story. In-depth world building and characters. What more could you want? (Hint hint, a sequel. Maybe something with that evil pirate captain dude Davorn hates so much. A sequel that’s as good or better than this one. :D)

You guys have to add this in the new update.

This game actually has pretty decent graphics compared to other RPGs at this level (Aralon). The plot isn’t great, the controls are a little shaky, and you just tap a button repeatedly to attack. However, there are a lot of spells/skills, there’s leveling up, and is a great RPG. We feel like some of the skills are based off of Fallout 4 perks, which is cool. It’s addicting and fun, so if you are a big RPG fan like us and interested in playing one for a cheaper price, we would recommend this or Ravensword.

This is a great game. It has great visual effects and easy gameplay. We would recommend it.

A great and deep Rpg perfectly formatted for mobile devices. The world is interesting and chock full of danger and fun.

An action RPG that’s in the same vein as Dragon Age. Just the right mix of combat, story, and depth for a game on a mobile device. This is closer to the gameplay found in original Dragon Age, perfectly suited for iPad and runs smoothly on the iPad 3, no crashes. Support this game, if you like RPG’s buy it, we’re addicted.

We love the game, we just wish there was more content. The Shadow Sun has much more enjoyable content than any other RPS on this device. We enjoyed the plot and prefer its camera and movement system to any of the other games we’ve played.

This game is the best. Please make what happens after, when he goes back home. Please make it!!!!!! Or make a DLC missions for this!!!!!!

Very nice graphics and game play. Nice to see a game with old school rpg play(weapons, potions, selecting str, agi, intell, etc) it us more than 10 yrs playing nonstop 3 days. Wish it had been longer but great fun game for its price!!

High five to the developers. Immersive atmosphere and lots of fun!

Does a great job with the technology available.

Superbly designed and produced! Very reminiscent of Neverwinter Nights (not surprising since the devs worked on expansions and mods for that). Amazingly detailed and beautiful graphics and sound for a mobile game. A good amount of nonlinear content too (about 12 hours worth to do everything). The only complaint is that at times the combat seemed a bit too easy. The bosses were well balanced, but we rarely worried about dying with other fights (and always had plenty of consumables and often didn’t feel the need to use them). Oh, one other thing – the traps aren’t very helpful since their coverage is small and it’s difficult to lead an enemy. Minor concerns though. Overall we really enjoyed this game!

We love this game and it’s just what we’ve been waiting for! Devs, can the graphics be increased for people that have the iPad Air? If u could do that, that would be awesome!

Should more games like these! :D.

Was in development for a while but we’ll worth the wait. Game is by far one of the best AAA games in the App Store. Brings us hope that more games of this caliber will continue to come to iOS as it has so much potential to be a viable hardcore gaming platform.

Played game all the way through on a 5c with out crashes, bugs or issues. For us, the strengths in this game lie in the music, atmosphere, lore and looting. Shadow Sun succeeds in creating its own little world with a large background. A nice aspect of the game was a lack of auto-spawning. There is nothing more annoying than playing a game where you can sit and watch enemies appear every 30 seconds from the same spot. We think the developers choice to avoid this added to the experience. We think think the only complaint or suggestion we have would be to rebalance the combat system to increase difficulty or the strategy needed to take down foes. This game was a great experience and worth playing… It hints at a possible sequel, we honestly hope they make it.
