Absolutely the best game we’ve played on iOS, we strongly recommend it. You can buy the premium version or just play the free version, with ads, but it’s no biggie. We honestly can’t understand why someone wouldn’t want to play this game it’s absolutely amazing. The gameplay/graphics are beautiful, the maps are also a nice size. This app definitely gets five stars.

This game takes place in medieval times, times when men did work and women ruled the house. That’s why the sexism of the game is okay. It’s no big deal because it makes since considering the time period the game is set in. The ads are incredible bothersome. You have to pay 4 bucks to get rid of this banner on the top of the screen that takes up one third of your screen. The premium version is $3.99 but we think that it’s kind of dumb that you don’t get the other paid add-ons such as unlimited fast forward. The graphics are beautiful and detailed. The music (to me) is very calming and goes with the game very well. It’s fun because there aren’t any build times technically, and even if there are waiting periods when you wait for your townies to do something, there’s always more to do. There are around 20 unique maps with quests and goals specific to each one. This allows several hours of gameplay to commence. Our absolute favorite part of the game is that it’s always challenging to play, and even when you finish a scenario/map, you can continue playing with it. There are some games that make you just start over, but here, you can play until you drop dead on your comfy sofa. Overall we give this five stars because although the ads are annoying, the game itself is beautiful and addicting, and we can’t wait for more updates.

Apparently you weren’t making enough money and you had to take up half our phone screen with blackness and every once and awhile an add, that you have to pay 3.99 to get rid of. You’re a sad excuse for a marketing company. Make it like it used to be when the adds came up every once and awhile, not taking up half the screen. All. The. Time. Oh well. Better games out there.

This game is sort of fun, but we stopped playing it after a few minutes because of the ridiculous amount of sexism in the game. The men do all the work and the women take care of the house. (I don’t think women even count towards your population since they can’t work anywhere.) And only the women will buy things at the market, because obviously women love shopping so much. It’s so unnecessary and bizarre. We’ve never written a game review before but we had to in this case, hopefully the developers read it and realize how absurd putting sexist gender roles into a game like this is.

This game is great. Sort of like a Sims City but medieval. Free to Play (with the negative set back of ads, but only a few dollars to permanently remove them). You don’t have to buy prestige and you can actually earn them from tasks. Yes, buildings take a second to build, but it’s really not an issue for us. You don’t have to "collect" rss from other players to build things. This is everything we could want in a mobile game. It would be cool if they came out with a modern version or another version set in a different era. We really enjoy historical themed games. But if you do, Handygames, keep what you have already. It’s awesome and we love the new updates. We feel like this is a real game, and not a mobile game, so it is definitely worth the extra dollars to get rid of ads, or even for a permanent speed up.

The game is simply magnificent and it would have to be one of our favorite mobile games but there needs to be more in the coming DLCs which im hopeful there will be, because once you play it for awhile and have a huge town it gets boring because there isn’t any challenge.

It’s a good game for any one who likes the game "Banished"(cp)with the addition of collecting taxes then this game would work for you. The only issue we would say is that this game has bandits which we find a pain since they start appearing any the end of the first year. Out of all great game!!!

In some ways this is like classic versions of SimCity (limited resources early on and the need for careful spatial planning to use limited land efficiently). But it’s different in that it requires the player to actively manage the town’s economy, reassigning workers as needs change frequently. You quickly get entangled in complicated chains of production, and it takes a lot of different types of production buildings, usually built in a particular sequence of dependencies, before your town can be reasonably self-sufficient & able to defend itself against pesky bandits. It’s mostly entertaining, but you don’t get a lot of time for big-picture long-term SimCity-style planning before urgent tasks demand your attention. The continual need to repair buildings before they catch fire or collapse definitely gets annoying at times.

It has too many ads and before the updates it didn’t have any ads.

The game has some potential, but parts are annoying and others are weird. Annoying: as far as we can tell, nothing happens while you are gone. Workers don’t work… Nothing gets made. Dumb. Weird: in one of the first scenarios (raising an army), you start with a warehouse that is overflowing. Your first task? DESTROY some of the contents. Not SELL them, like in any normal building game, but throw them away. Deleting.

We were willing to give this game a try, but the ads being at the top of the screen really messes with us, and we don’t like being forced to pay for something that we don’t even know if we like. So, if you really hate obnoxious ads right at the top of the screen, this game is not for you, and wants you to pay 3.99 to remove them.. Like really?

Right away after trying to enter tutorial apple prompted us to confirm 3.99 payment. We closed it and it kept popping up again.

We love this game but can anyone tell us how to trade pigs in the market place? Also some of our buildings say that they need iron, pigs, wheat and so on.. We can’t figure out how to do that. Please help!

We can’t believe how addicted we are to this game. We got it only a few days ago and have been playing it nonstop. We’ve been playing the infinite mode but there is also campaign for those people who like that. The options seem endless here. We paid to remove ads, not because they were really annoying us, but because the developers deserve the money. Top notch job on this game. Definitely better than Clash of Clans and those other silly town building games.

Can get lost in this game for hours. Need to develop more like this. Very realistic and challenging!

We love this game and the ideas it has! We would really like to see it have more warfare against neighboring nations with full armies because then it would be like Age of Empires and that would be a great game. It’s pretty close already. All in all, we love it so far and would love to see more updates and improvements. Best empire builder we have played in a while, but there is room for improvement.

Organizing the buildings would make this game so much more interesting and fun to play.

This is a really great game! If you like age of empires, you’ll like this. There are maps where you can play with periodic enemy raids, but we honestly just play without that and focus on building our town. You can play endlessly, which has led to us binge-playing… Our only gripe is that there are ads ALL THE TIME. A big one takes up 25% of the screen and video ads appear every few minutes. We may pay to remove the ads, but it’s now $4 instead of $1 like previous reviewers have mentioned. It’s a decision you’ll have to make if you enjoy the game.

We deleted the game because it was full of advertising. During the game the upper screen is constantly filled with advertising making the playing screen shrink plus cuz from time to time a new advertisement is cutting the playing time for about 30 seconds without the possibility to skip it. Pretty annoying. 3 stars from us because the game is cute though we couldn’t play it.

Its a good game but the ad bar on the top is takes up a huge portion of our screen and makes the game look bad so we’re deleting for now, we were really looking forward to playing it :(

We have been trying for 3 days to figure out some things on this game…. Like how to move buildings…. Or if you even can. We have sent messages to developers, watched you tube videos, & asked on the Facebook link. We will be deleting this game in the next 2 days if we can’t find out the answers to some of our questions. Sad, it could be a really good game.

Ads cover screens and cause game to be slow.

Didn’t even bother attempting to get into the game because of the giant ad banner that shrinks your view, ad bait!!!

Unfortunately they get a high potential game, an transform in a app-purchase trap.

Us and our dad play this game together and see who can keep their happiness up the most and longest and who can get the highest population,he always wins of course. This game is really fun!!! You should get it!…… P.s ours has no bugs, everything works great and smoothly :D.

The best game in the app store.

We have play this game for years and love it. It’s challenging and fun we love to start over with a new town and figure out a better way to get everything to market.

We LOVE THIS GAME MORE GAMES LIKE THIS PLEASE!!!

Love the game, only we can’t unlock the barracks in Basic Military Training no matter how many times we complete the tutorial. And it would be even better if you could move the buildings.

Years ago we played a cheap game on PC called Knights and Merchants. It was fun and relaxing watching the characters go about their day. You controlled the balance of things and the development of the world in a sandbox style agrarian Middle Ages. Ever since then we’ve been looking for something similar but everything required strategic warring with other players. Until now. This is perfect (as far as what we wanted in a game). It could stand to not have building randomly catch fire so often, but overall it’s great. The ads on free version are a pain and hide a lot of the game screen. We dropped the few bucks to make them go away and it was worth it. The whole "prestige" system (equivalent to diamonds or whatever speed cheats in other games of the type) can get you in trouble if you start buying them. But you can voluntarily watch ads to gain them instead of paying for them. We like that aspect. We don’t mind watching an ad on our terms. But the system for that is glitchy. Hopefully they fix it. Overall we love the game and look forward to improvements in functionality. If you’re looking for "game of war" go get that game. This is not that, thank goodness. Oh, a closer zoom ability would be nice too. Details are a little small on iPhone 6.

We love this game its addicting but Im giving it four stars because you cant rotate buildings that you want to place pls add that feature in a new update:(

We love playing this game however we have one saved game that after we got so far the app crashes if we’re in it for more than a minute, all of the other saved games we started work fine so far so it needs some bug fixes but other than having to start over once we get so far we love it. We quit playing for a while because of this bug but we’re back and hopefully we’ll stay longer this time if the bug to act up and make us mad again…

The game is lagging a lot after a couple of minutes. The game would be a lot funner if it did not have this problem. This problem did not occur before just within the past few months.

We like this game but can you please fix the frame rate issue? When we build our 3rd town house the game gets extremely choppy and slow. Anyways for a review we recommend getting this game and will give it five stars if this frame rate issue is fixed.

With the latest update to iOS 9.3, the game is now regularly randomly crashing. Was completely stable before. Game really needs an update. More scenarios, ability to move and rotate buildings, more research to learn would all be nice. We think we’ll be moving on to other games unless/until this receives an update.

We enjoy the game but its starting to freeze yet again. The main reason why we stopped playing it to begin with thought it would be fixed but guess not. Please fix..

We pay real money for quick button, but after 1month, game is always lag, we cant play. Plz fix lag.

Can you make the adds any bigger or permanent. You have reduced the screen play to almost half of the he screen to display adds constantly. On top of that we also have to watch additional adds or loose prestige which isn’t cool. To top it off you then send messages for yet more adds. How about we just say no thank you to this game.

Worst game we’ve ever seen. The ads are always at the top of the screen and you can’t get rid of it. This is the perfect example of an extremely ad-tastic game. Lametastic! Please don’t support this game by buying the no ad version, it is a rip off!

If you like ads, you’ll love this "game!" The ads take up nearly half the screen… Game play is pretty boring with the overly-long "tutorial" that directs you to do things, rather than letting you learn as you go.

Townsmen is a perfect example of the worst kind of "pay to wait" game design. Every action you take is designed to make you wait and wait and wait some more, so that you will want to spend the game’s "prestige points" currency to make any progress. The game does give small point rewards for a few in-game quests. Naturally, various larger bundles of points are available for sale via in-app purchases. But HandyGames didn’t stop there. They show even more contempt for their players’ time and money by giving tiny point rewards for watching ad videos and doing other marketing activities. You can also sell your email to their marketing partners for even more in-game currency. Even larger bounties are paid if you actually buy some of the advertised products. If you pay to remove the always visible ad banner in the free version, you still can not escape the advertising, because you need a LOT of prestige points to play the game at a reasonable pace. Whatever happened to games that were designed to be fun? Townsmen is designed to squeeze your wallet and sell your identity to advertisers first and foremost. The gameplay is a minor secondary consideration. The game is unplayably tedious unless you invest in prestige points one way or another. But hey, the graphics are adorable and the interface is well designed and easy to use.

Ads are taking up almost half of the screen. Bad way to make us pay few bucks.

It takes up almost half of our screen.

What a load of rubbish , it’s an insult to a person intelligence , and all those adds are just ridiculous . We’re not going to pay $$ to remove adds. We’re dissapointed.

This is honestly the first game we have found in the App Store that doesn’t require, or even strongly incentivize you, to pay real money for in-game currency (which is "prestige" for townsmen). The game instead allows you to watch ads (ranging from 5-30 seconds, usually around 20) to earn prestige. Additionally, it does not require an Internet connection to play, nor does it have day-long build times for buildings like other apps. It’s simply a normal city building game that one might encounter if playing on PC or a console, which is personally our favorite part. So far this is the only app we have ever written a review for because we believe they have earned it. In addition, the developers seem very devoted. Besides them posting YouTube tutorials, we once discovered a bug, reported it via email, and received a response a few hours later thanking us and explaining they had received other responses reporting the same issue and that they were working to patch it. Seriously, this is the first game we have found almost zero faults with and has actually compelled us to write a review. Two thumbs way way up!

We absolutely love this game but for some reason it is running painfully slow on our iPad, please fix this! Suggestion: it would be nice to have the option to turn the seasons off or on. I’d like to play other maps with no winter like in Marthalersburg.

It’s one of our favorite games and unlike a lot of games that you can download, this one we’ve kept coming back to for over a year now. We’re really excited with the new updates they’ve made. Trust us this, it’s worth the time. We love that you can have the free full version, then if you WANT to, purchase the ad removal. We did so, and it was worth it. :) please keep the updates coming!
