Transistor Reviews

One of the mobile games we’ve played in a long time, with so many different weapon combinations and different ways to challenge yourself, Its ending is a little sad but happy too, a bitter-sweet ending. If your not sure youll like this game, well Im sure you will :)

You really only have one narrator but even so the story is gorgeous and at time heart breaking if this were a book Id get it in full colour hardcover and reread it cover to cover The game play is smooth and the combat intriguing we would say it functions well for the iPhone the touch is responsive PS spoilerIf you are liable to get invested in the story this may make you cry The only thing we would nag at would be recursing through it a second time doesnt benefit much If we could wish one thing to be different we would wish the ending credits the second time through were a duet…. We would play it all again for a duet (I kept feeling like there almost was a duet but then Id listen closer and jus hear red…)

We finally decided to play this as we had it just lying around on PS4, but didnt have high hopes as we had gotten it for free. In the end, it would be more accurate to say that we were absolutely shocked than simply pleasantly surprised at how much we loved it. Its now one of our favorite games of all time, so much so that, after playing it 3 times on PS4 to complete all trophies, we did it all over again on the iPhone. The gameplay is a unique take on a turn-based system that we’ve never really seen before. It managed to keep it fresh and interesting even after what is now 6 playthroughs (which is nothing less than a herculean feat!) thanks to its use of functions and limiters and the dozens and dozens of different combinations you can make. It also includes mini-games in the form of tests that test your speed and strategy/planning skills which were entertaining, especially on your third playthrough when the game has become truly hard. The story is definitely engaging and keeps you hooked. The only thing we wish had been done differently was if they included more history and detail about this world, perhaps in some kind of book supplement. But the way they did it in game was brilliant, to be honest. It kept enough back to keep you playing non-stop, wanting to know more. Its a supremely emotional and touching story, where you literally feel the pain and longing of these characters. Normally, we hate games that have some form of narration, but this one was done brilliantly by having it be a conversation between the male narrator and your female character, but where she never speaks out loud. We also own every iteration of its soundtrack. The music in this game is on its own worth the purchase. To us it almost ranks up there with NieR: Automatas soundtrack, which is our favorite game OST of all, including what was our long-undefeated and unmatched Final Fantasy 6 & 7 & 10 that had reigned for 20 years prior to these two games. TLDR: we cannot recommend this game enough. And make sure your phone is not on silent the music is VITAL to the story. Honestly there would be no reason at all to play this if you do it without sound.

This game has never left our phone since first download. Its one of the best games we’ve ever played in our life and Im in our forties. Its simply brilliant in every regard and theres literally no game like it… Anywhere. We hope they always keep this game current as Ill always want it on our phone. You need to experience this absolute gem.

One of the best games ever made for iOS is now even better with full iPhone X support! Thanks, guys!

Please optimize, we really love this game but it drains battery really fast.

We played this game a long time ago on our iPhone. To this day is still probably one of the best games we’ve played on our phone.

Please update this game and create more level this game was so freakin good we love it.

The art stylebeing the first thing to jump out at you, even in these still imagesis only a part of the delicious experience that is playing this game. Of course, they are fantastic. The sound design is also amazing: the voices are real and grounded while the music is entrancing and immersive. The gameplay is innovative and requires actual thinking (what a thought!) and the story is nothing less than something from an introspective sci fi film. It is the best game we have ever played on mobile, and we cannot recommend it enough.

We loved the gameplay, its quite unique in our opinion, the visuals and music made this game. A hidden gem. Many story decisions are rather questionable though. But ignoring the story this game is one of our favorites.

Fantastic game recommend to everyone. Operates smoothly on iPhone X.

We played this game a few years back on the PS4 and it was amazing, the lines, the humming, the chemistry, its everything you need to fall in love with this game and the characters.

Great art style, music, story, and controls. The only thing that we found kinda annoying was that on iPhone X models the home screen bar pops out in white while using the touchscreen, it would be 100x better if it were translucent because it can be really distracting from such an amazing game.

We highly recommend this game to anyone that is a fan of the Shadowrun series.

We absolutely love games like Fallout (2 and later) and X-Com, so the hybrid action of Transistor really did it for us. The balance between real-time action and turn-based strategy immediately appealed to us. While we often find that our large fingers dont mesh well with touchscreen controls, we never had a problem negotiating any part of this design. We couldnt imagine better play control on iOS! Transistors modular weapons system is superb, and while the story is linear, you can dramatically augment both the difficulty and the speed at which you progress by opting in for handicaps. Talk about a cool system! Whats more, we found the plot highly engaging with. Remarkable amount of emotional appealjust what we want from an RPG.

Loving the game now. Thanks for the update!

We were quite hesitant to buy this game, mainly because of how many said the game was repetitive, but holy crap am we glad we bought this. Five minutes in and we were hooked not only on the story and graphics, but on the relationship between the main characters as well. The gameplay itself is repetitive but always has a slight challenge to each one, which to us, keeps it from becoming boring. Personally the reason we loved this so much is because of the relationship and how heartbreaking it was to only hear one side of it while the other side was forced to be silent. Im a sucker for romance novels and such so that may be the reason why we fell in love with this game so much. But overall Id say that this has definitely become our favorite game and favorite storyline to listen to and play.

Just what the title says, we cant wait to replay this beautiful game with 100% of our screen.

Fantastic game! Thanks for finally supporting iPhone X!

We love this game and its music. Even though it came out 4 years ago we think it hold itself up well. The only thing we would like more out of this is more bosses. Thats it amazing game!

We played this on our switch AND our phone. We prefer the switch version, but the story and graphics are truly wonderful. Mix those together with the awesome music and youll get an awesome game. The story was a little confusing at times, but near the end everything became clear. Its an awesome game, and Im surprised it doesnt cost more. It is a little short, but thats exactly something we’ve been looking for. Definitely worth multiple play throughs, its challenging at times, but never too hard, and it gives you the option to make it harder or easier. Overall, great game. 9.5/10.

This game is beautiful. The music, visuals, gameplay, and story are lovingly crafted to the highest degree of quality. It’s one of the most striking games we’ve ever played. The stopping time mechanic is so much fun. Im such a huge fan of Supergiant’s work. They also made Bastian and they are developing Hades right now in early access. You’re awesome, Supergiant.

Honestly, the gameplay mechanics, beautiful graphics and incredible story all have us nearly as impressed as Supergiants first release, Bastion. The action is smooth and exciting, and the subtle exposition and world building is fantastic.

Updating this review – iPhone X is now fully supported and looks beautiful. Thanks for the great update!

We really like the game it has really interesting story and the graphics as the music are amazing. If you do not understand the story we recommend you to google it then you will see that is really interesting.

This is a game that says so much with so little. It’s an engaging, beautiful story, told through innovative combat that’s both strategic and nerve wracking. It can feel fast paced even while slowing down. It’s one of our favorite games, and feels as perfect on a smartphone as it does on a tablet or computer. If you ever find yourself doubting the quality of mobile gaming, pop in some headphones and give Transistor a shot. You won’t regret it.

Been a while since we’ve played it but this game is truly a cut above the rest. The developers created a world that is incredibly intriguing! Paired with a hauntingly somber music score. We even went out and bought the music album off iTunes. The game play is phenomenal as we had the chance to keep trying endless weapon combinations. We’ve come to play it again. The experience is electrifying. Have fun. Hope they create a new experience.

We played this on PlayStation and liked it. Best rpg game we’ve played on iPad. Easy to control with touchscreen. Spectacular scenes.

This game is inches from perfection. An excellent developer makes another excellent game. The character design, animation, voice acting, music, sound effects etc are all amazing. We love this game. The problems for us are the battle system and how new moves are added. The battle system is a blend of real-time combat and tactical combat. Real-time is straight forward but animations leave you vulnerable. When you go with the tactical, you route the path you walk and your move selection. The problem is your choices arent guaranteed to work. We dont need to be playing an all powerful character, we ask that the system make sense. When you level up, you may be prompted to choose between to moves for your arsenal. You get to read a description that may not explain how youve improved. Also, those choices will modify something you already have but we havent seen the difference. The mysterious story will keep us playing. Hopefully, the battle system starts to make sense.

Similar narration style to Bastion, with incredible music consistently around every single corner The story itself is rather short; but with 1k+ possible combinations, and such a beautiful world, its got quite the replay-ability. We would recommend this to anyone whos craving a good rpg/and or story game, or is just sick of looking through garbage for good games With a space to practice as long as you want, and re-hear every song as many times as you want, the devs clearly know what the player wants Almost gave this 4 stars due to our save data corrupting mid way through our first playthrough (forcing us to restart); but all in all that doesnt detract nearly enough from this game to take away that star imo 5/5. Buy it for your grandma.

Playing through Transistor on iOS, with its excellent combat mechanics, beautiful artwork, and compelling world design made us wish we could also play Hades on iOS :)

Have it on the Apple TV with the mfi control. If games like this keep coming we dont really need an expensive game console.

Love the programming and strategic positioning aspect in battles, the scenery, voices, and music.

Youre great, more than any other team now we are waiting for your new game ‘Hades’ to ios.

This game plays and looks beautiful The narration and music are also just as beautiful The touch controls are pretty good Takes getting used to but their good Play this on a IPad with a controller is the optimal way but we play a lot on our IPhone and we have a blast Pick this up an incredible instant classic.

Simply amazing, we just wish it was longer.

Please update for latest iPad Pro resolutions! Fantastic game that Id like to enjoy the fullest extent.

We have this game for both ps4 and iphone now but the iphone version keeps cutting out right after we get off the bike when you are retracing your steps in the game. Really sucky bug and we’re pretty livid about it.

Beautiful immersive game, incredible voice acting and great storyline. Highly recommend.

Game mechanics and animation 4/5 Art and Surroundings 5/5 Story and Dialogue 3/5 The art was great. We loved it and always looked forward to it. The fighting and game mechanics were also good. Im not a big shoot um up or hack and slash person, but we really enjoyed the fighting in this game. It was rewarding but not frustrating. However, the story was convoluted and confusing, and the ending was just plain depressing. There is no clear explanation for anything really. What is the Transistor? What is the Process? How did the evil people set off the process and make everything crazy? We also dont feel like we could influence the story at all. It said Role Play but it didnt really feel like it. The ending was disappointing and just made us said. Sure Red went to the afterlife in the Transistor, but she also killed herself, which is kind of a big deal. Was there no way she could have just rebuilt the city or stayed to see if anybody survived? It was just sort of sad. Was there no way to pull her boyfriend out of the Transistor? It seems like with a plot so confusing their would be. All in all, we enjoyed this game. We think for most people it is worth the money. We just really care about a good story and that is what we look for in a game. We know we devoted two paragraphs to saying how confusing the plot was, but we mean it could have been worse and the great art and music made up for it somewhat.

We cant move our character in game.

The game keeps crashing and Im unable to open the app.

It loads our save state then freezes right after the first boss.

Try to play it again on Apple TV, the game does not install. Stuck at 0%

A different concept from most games, great graphics but the gameplay is below average.
