Community Insight:
The only thing that would make this game five plus is an easier solo interface that is ranked or unranked play. Maybe just a simple toggle from solo/player submitted maps/or random map generator with potential unit unlocks… When we're free the wait for turns is tedious. The game mechanics and replayability are top notch.
There are many ways to play and win. We like the animations as well it's not like everything is still. We would like an animation for moving a unit however that's the one part that kind of bugs us. But everything else is on point.
We have been enjoying this game. We prefer turn based.
Wish there was more online players but it's so good every player has different attributes that makes it more strategic to play and not repetitive.
Easy and fun with a great tutorial campaign to get you up to speed quickly.

Best turn-based tactical game and is cross platform with android and iPhone devices. You can even create clans for 2v2, 3v3, etc.
We dont say that about many games on ios, but this game is honestly really good (compared to alot of other strategy games on ios). Pay-to-win games are so annoying to us, but this is just classic stuff right here. We gotta say, this is fun.
Before going to an on-line version, this was a great turn-based strategy game. Now, you either have to pay to unlock certain units, or watch an ad. Unfortunately, the ads either aren't always available or sometimes crash the iPad.

This game combines the best of classic hex war with a modern twist, would highly recommend it.
Remind us of the old Perfect General, a lot better in many ways. Little smaller hex with smaller units could make a larger map for iPad. 5 stars for sure. We are making a turn-based war game for desktop just for the fun of it too. Glad it doesn't provoke hatred by bringing nations into the game. This is an abstract war game masterfully programmed.
We've been enjoying this game since they originally published it. Two minor complaints 1. Ads don't work for buying units – if it's not an option please remove it. 2. It needs additional maps or options for solo play.
Update- Original – "If you like strategy, and challenge, then this is the game, for you! War has never been this much – "fun" – before. Users can make their own maps, so this game never gets old. You can make new friends, and create "teams" to help you in your battles. Tournaments for every level of play, increase your knowledge, & the competition makes you razor sharp. Get this game, you will not be disappointed." Update – IOS players are; second class citizens to UniWar updates. The developers keep changing unit standards/strengths, this makes it more difficult to win. We contacted the developers on problems that probably will never be addressed. Our music on our iPad quits when we start the game, even though we have music & sound disabled. We gave a proposal for players of very high rank to have their own tournament apart from "regular" players, that was never implemented. High ranking players always win the monthly tournaments. In short – the developers do not care to listen to their customers / constituents… We are Disappointed! Downgrading our five star rating to three.
Watching ads does not unlock promised features. Game breaking bug makes it almost unplayable. Otherwise great game design mechanics and gameplay.
You won't be able to play unless you pay or watch advertisements for tokens. Like someone said below, it's like playing chess without all the pieces unless you do those things. Miss the old game.
The game is a fun game the frustrating part though is the way people cheat and the way the game owner leaves the issues as a feature of the game.
We're fine with apps that have ads to watch to unlock things……. However we find it super disappointing when the unlocks don't unlock and we could end up watching thousands of ads with no benefit. Uninstalling and moving on.
Watching an ad to unlock a character doesn't work.
We just started playing, and this game certainly has legs, but right now it is broken. The ads (required watching if you want access to all the military unit types) do not download despite our 100Mb/s fibre link. That means we can't field airborne troops (best defense against certain attacks) and it feels like playing chess without all the pieces, but our opponents have access to them. Fix it, please, we're abandoning this unnecessary frustration.
Extremely well built rules and battle units. Not a ton of challenge diversity playing offline – online play is the way to go and it's very balanced. You can earn coins for in-game purchases, so no "real" need to pay more after buying the game, if you're cheap, but we don't mind throwing the dev team a few bucks. They roll out a new feature every year or so. Hope this game stays around — best value purchase we've made in Apple Store.
Just beat the campaign, it's was a fun way to pass time on the train.
We've been playing this game for a few days and we love it! A lot-a-bit command and conquer and a liiiittle bit battle for westnoth. Very little premium content and affordable priced for anything worth having. ENJOY fellow gamers.

You're not going to get a better game in this genre. Units similar to Starcraft with the classic turn based balance of Chess. Do not hesitate to download this gem.
This was the best turn-based squad tactics game on iOS years ago when it first came out. Great as single player and multiplayer. Years later, we're still coming back. May be the best strategy game on iOS still today.

Reminds us of Military Madness from years ago on Sega, Playstation & now XBox, but even better. Several innovative additions make for a lot more strategies to keep gameplay fresh, and we like that the developers continually tweak the game to provide fair, balanced matches. We've spent 4 months now starting a few new games a day against other players. Be careful, you'll get addicted! EDIT: Years later and this is an app we still play every day.

UniWar has been around a long time – going back to the early days of our iPhone 3GS. Then as now it has been a great recipe for a mobile game- quick to get in and out of, easy to pick up and put down as your schedule permits, engaging and satisfying. For many years we played against the computer, not wanting to engage other humans in our diversions – but with the recent introduction of new units, we decided to try the online gameplay. It's been great! We're currently playing several matches with people all over the world, who are putting up a much better fight than the computer – and this has given us a much better appreciation for the care the UniWar team has given to adding complexity to the strategy (various terrain in unlimited numbers of maps, 3 unique races compete each with around 10 types of units that have complimentary attributes to capture bases) while maintaining balance of power so it is ultimately the strategy of the player that wins or loses.
You think your getting pretty good then you get whacked 3 times in a row.

Best iPhone app game we've ever owned. Highly addictive. Always players and games to play. 50+ maps. Easy to learn but hard to master. Still going strong 7 years later.
Absolutely perfect! Looking forward to new maps, possibly campaign, and new units! Dont listen about the pop up ads, you can have 20 games going with no pop ups, and the pop ups are like 5 seconds.
