A Glimpse into Wargame Poland 1939

Case White, the invasion of Poland 1939.
This is a classic hex and counter wargame.
This game simulates the 1939 Axis invasion of Poland by Germany and their Slovakian allies. The game focuses on the Axis invasion, and does not cover the Soviet invasion.
You can play against another player "hotseat" or else play either side against your device.
Gameplay involves moving your units on a map of Poland. The map is organised into hexes to regulate movement. If you tap on a unit, hexes it can move to are highlighted in yellow. Tap on a highlighted hex to move there. If there is an enemy unit present, combat will occur.
The units represent the military formations actually present in 1939. Mostly these are divisions, but some are brigades or army headquarters. You can place (stack) up to five units in a single hex. Tapping on the hex will rotate the units, with the selected one at the top.

Great old fashion game. Quick to learn and easy to play. Wish someone would make more of these.

We love it. Saved poland from the nazis.

Fun – reminds us of the old board games. Good job!

Every time we try to open it it crashes so we can’t even play it.

Once the game ended, it was stuck at restart or continue. We had to remove the game. No naval gunfire. Air Force. Has makings of a decent game.

This is probably one of the first real hex & counter wargames for the ipad. Simple and quick to play but has a lot of depth built into it. We hope the dev would take time to address the following points in a future update: 1. Increase resolution since a lot of the screen seems taken up by two or three menu items on top 2. Getting multiple units to attack simultaneously 3. Feedback before comming to battle (as far as we can see, there is no way to know in advance what are the possible outcomes) 4. We’re sure there is a Combat Result Table being used in the background. Would be great if we can see it before committing to the battle (as in #3) and know what die rol we got Again, game is a lot of fun to play and captures the feel of tabletop wargames. Hope to see more!!

Rulebook is hidden in the about section of the settings! So fun!

Finally a decent serious wargame. Good historical treatment of units involved. Minor gameplay issues as mentioned in other reviews. Please develop more of these games. Barbarossa, low countries, Norway, ect… Well done!

And not quite complete. The game needs to provide more information about the rules and results of combat. Still, this is the closest anyone has come yet to producing a true wargame and despite it’s faults on that metric it’s better than Shanendoah Studios’ Battle of the Bulge. Our tiny wargame community cries out for more like this.

It would be nice to have artillery units as well as air support. Possibly airborne units & improved graphics. Glitch fixes would also be a major plus.

Lots of potential, keep working on this. Make it more like hearts of iron and id pay for this.

Sounds like a great game, which is why we’re giving it two stars instead of one, but it crashes every time after the red screen numbers count down.

This game has a lot of potential- obviously well researched, but no documentation we could find on gameplay, and the zoom feature went bananas after about 5 minutes of play. There’s also no obvious feedback after a battle, and multiple units can’t attack together- it’s more of a one after another kind of battle. With some more work on graphics and gameplay this could be a really good game. We look forward to continued improvements.

This looks like it could be a great Game. Unfortunately this app freezes on the opening red screen on our iPod 3 GS when we try to start it. We really hope this can be fixed! It looks like our dream type of game. We will change our rating if and when we are able to actually play this game.

The game crashes very time we try to open it. Requires hard reset of iPad.

Great game but we agree with others that the game could use more work. Will continue to play though we are hoping the developer will update. Cant wait for more games by this developer.

Its pretty fun but its kind of hard to get the map to load.

We had hopes for this game and it let us down. We realize its free, but, the developer could have made it a little more realistic. No air power, the Polish Army is almost as strong as the Germans. We played it 10 times and could never get better than a poor victory for the Germans. The Poles were no where near as strong as the Germans but it isnt like that in the game. Also they need to put AirPower in the game as that is where the Germans really shined.

Liked the original Poland game and even the France one. Hadnt played in awhile and launched Poland and all of a sudden the game is Korsun. Even uninstall and reload has not fixed. Would give the original Poland game 5 Stars and would be happy to pay for these games since they are excellent.

Game that downloaded was Korsun not Poland 39. The game feels unfinished and the map leaves a lot to be desired; keeping to the original board game map isnt really nostalgia unless the game was a true classic, like Avalon Hills Blitzkrieg or something. Otherwise the map is lackluster at best. Counter values are very small, even zoomed in. SS units probably should be another color to denote them or labeled as such. A lack of multi-hex coordinated attack capability means we feel no unit cohesion or get any benefit from coordinated assaults; this runs counter to military doctrine in any army. Basically if youre just going to scan into iOS the board game, we recommend passing on this series. Developer, youre making the money, now put forth some effort and provide a better quality product – youre not stuck in the 1970s with hand stenciled maps and hand cut unit counters. Good graphics these days are easy peasy to make.

Downloaded the Poland app and it boots up as Korsun. These are great games that play well.

Updated the game to iOS 11, but launches as Korsun 1944, not Poland 1939 (as of 9/26/17).

Downloaded poland and it is instead Korsun! So, worst game on Poland we have neverplayed?

Great game. Just the strategy game we were looking for.

We love war games, namely those that have historical accuracy. This is a great game, but the AI may be a bit easy to beat after a couple of games. We recommend playing with another person over solitaire play.

An excellent game for one of the most underrated parts of WWII. Great accuracy and unit design. Definitely worth your time.

As others have noted, this app feels a bit unfinished, especially in terms of documentation, descriptions of game play, and some of the flow and chrome of other games. Despite this, it is a very nice little game, and reminded us of some of our old favorites from Avalon Hill. Would love to see the developer continue work on this. Would certainly be worth a few bucks if it acquired a more finished feel.

Great turn based strategy game!

We just can’t stop playing it we hope more maps come out tho it is our favorite game on our phone great work if you love ww2 history this game was built for you it is soooo realistic that we even think the desert fox would agree.
