A Glimpse into WingMate Companion
WingMate is an unofficial companion app for the award winning board game Wingspan, designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and published by Stonemaier Games.
The app lets you:
- assign a name and action cube color for each player, and order the players based on seating position
- select an Automa player as one of the five players as well as difficulty
- pick or randomly draw the end-of-round goal tiles
- randomly draw the starting player and show the first player for each round
- display Automa moves based on the Automa cards included in the game. Automatically tracks face-down birds, eggs and end-of-round cubes
- score each player’s total for the end-of-round goals, and then display the action cubes on the goal board
- total each player’s points per category (birds, bonus cards, end-of-round goals, eggs, food on cards and tucked cards)
- automatically sum the values of each bird you score by tapping the point value of each bird
- show and share a summary of the game results
The free version of WingMate lets you score a single player. To fully score a game, you need to purchase the Scoring Unlock via an in-app purchase on the WingMate Store. To play a full solo game, you need to additionally purchase the Automa Unlock. A 7-Day Free Trial is available.

Makes our best game even better. We never score by hand.
This app is so worth it! We absolutely love it and we cant imagine playing without it. We love playing solo, so this makes it so much easier. We hope they are working on the integration of the Asia expansion for both multiplayer and solo gameplay/scoring. Looking forward to it!
We almost never review apps, but our partner and we play Oceanias Automarazzi co-op mode all the time (over 70 games at this point), and we couldnt imagine not playing with WingMate. The ability to run Automa with just a few taps, without having to worry about keeping track of their supply, round cards, Automa deck, etc is such a time saver. Outside of just Automa, WingMate is by far the best way to score your games. Beats the Stonemaier scoring app by a landslide, and all other unofficial apps. Just pressing the numbers to add together your bird point values is so nice. The design and feel of the app is also perfectly aesthetically aligned with the game, and fits right on the table beside your player mat. Youd think its official. The app is also still updating (Asia expansion functionality on its way), so you can expect a purchase to last. Only feature Id love to see would be an option to save the records of your games within the app. You can very conveniently take a screenshot of the final scoreboard, but our screenshots folder is getting a bit big Plus it might be nice to have that tied in with some player stats function (i.e. Highest score ever, most cards ever tucked, most food ever cached, etc.). Thats all just bonus features thoughthe app does what its supposed to, and does is perfectly. All in all, if youre not opposed to introducing a phone to the table during Wingspan time, get this app!! (And get Wingsong too while youre at it)

This app is spectacular! Makes playing with the automa easy and incredibly fun. The upgrades are a small price to pay for the ease and convenience thanks so much!
Works great for score keeping and we love it, except we want to keep track of past game scores and statistics. Please add this feature and it will be perfect!
Wow, this was amazing! Our only advice for the developers is to state exactly which scores you are asking us to input. For example, instead of just a picture to indicate what we are scoring, also include Tucked Cards in the header. We have played waaaay too many games and therefore know myself what it is youre asking for but think this could be super helpful for others. Hope you take this into consideration. Thanks so much and what a fabulous job youve done with this app! (I read another reviewer mentioning it would be helpful to save scores for a running tally to calculate the biggest scorer overall; that would be awesome!)
We got this app about 6 months ago when our score pads with the game ran out. We can’t even imagine playing without it.
Very well made app thats does all of the score keeping for you! So awesome that it works with the latest expansions as well! Costs a little bit to get that but well worth it! (From developer to developer, we know its not much but every little bit helps )
We would be willing to pay more and we would give 5 stars if the app could save the scores rather than having to create a file or folder to export the scoresheets to. Beautiful app! Please add an archive upgrade!
We love using this app, but wish we had all of our previous scores.
Was very disappointed to purchase the full version of this app only to discover that it does not track player/game statistics. We had a free Wingspan app for Android that was free and included this feature. Other than missing what seems to be an intuitive feature (especially for a game like Wingspan that has such an avid fan base of players who are keenly interested in tracking their games), the app is excellent! We love the flow, and the 1+2+3 feature on the points calculator is genius! Would have given it five stars if it had game stats.
Were really enjoying this app, but the way the app counts the end of round goals doesnt seem to match the EoRG score card provided with the board game. E.g. App calculates 17 points, but when we manually check the physical card we get 19. Hopefully it gets fixed in the next update since we are loving this app – and take personal high scores very seriously;)
It’s a great free companion app- we would pay a buck or two for more features like just have the scorecard view where end of game points are added, skipping the live round tracking. Track high scores by player, like a leaderboard view over time.
Ok this app was game changer especially since we were playing a lot wit our friends and family so it made everything faster however we just changed devices and it wont refresh or manage our purchase and asks us to pay this again. So now we cant use it. Please let us know if any of you is having this issue and how they fixed it.
The main benefit of this app is if you play with the Automa, it takes care of keeping track of everything so you dont have to pile up physical eggs, tokens, etc. And it makes the gameplay go faster. It works for keeping score for regular player games, but isnt really any faster than just totaling things up by hand on the score pad. It would be useful if you could save the scores and keep a logthen you could track your total wins, statistics, etc. As it is you can save an image of the final score to camera roll or other apps but that is sort of cumbersome and we dont really need a high-resolution shot or to take up space with a giant pdf when the app should be able to store this data in a chart.
Great tool to when playing Wingspan Automa style or with a group. It would be even better if it could keep a record of previous scores.

Overall the app makes scoring easier, especially end of round goals. Id like if it let you enter the end of game score in category order rather than player order since it feels more natural and would be faster. Our biggest gripe is that the app does not archive players or games!
We cannot edit the end of game score and we wish that it would have more detailed instructions in the app.
This app doesnt allow you to play the game. Im honestly not sure what its supposed to do. It also charged us much more than the noted amount when we unlocked a couple of things (~$36). This seems to be a complete scam, so dont get misled into buying it. We wish we could reverse the download and purchase.
Cant read help screens on either 9 iPad or iPhone 6+ because text is truncated. Cant enter bird value for Automa when card matches Automa criteria. Doesnt seem to display current running score for Automa when playing solo (but maybe Im overlooking something?). Not clear what youre entering for human players at the end when scoring tucked cards and cached food because there is no supporting text. We need to see this stuff fixed before Id recommend this app to a friend.
Very impressed with this app and its a welcome addition to our game. Worth every penny!
… But we personally dont see much use for it. The game is easy enough to score and its harder to punch everything into the app. It is very well made though.
