Find out what gamers are saying about WordStorm:

We love this game. Keeps us thinking. One thing Id like to see added is the ability to sort found words alphabetical so we can easily see if we already found the word.

What we like about Wordstormwhich has different rules than the similar Spelling Bee and NO hints (a good thing): (1) choice between US & British English, (2) only one puzzle a day, so you can’t get obsessed with it, (3) keeps track of your daily scores in calendar format, (4) it’s challenging, but not so much so that you can’t get 100% every day, after a brief learning curve, (4) the letters you’ve already typed in light up in different colors, so you can easily tell what you’ve got left to work with, (5) little dotted lines show you how many letters there are in the words you haven’t found yet, (6) tells you when a word is invalid either because it’s slang or just not accepted (although it doesn’t pick up on all the valid words), (7) no clock, so it’s a real stress reliever for me: we complete it every morning before breakfast, so it’s a great way to start off the day, (8) the sound effects are mildly amusing, but you can turn them off, (9) you can hit the surrender flag to see what you missed. Note: we haven’t tried the 2-person version. If it adds a speed element, that would be a turn-off. And we’re hitting 100% every day anyway, so we’re not sure what the point would be.) KEY TIP: you do have to accept its limitations. You’re solving for the words they accept, not the ones they don’t. After a couple of weeks, we found the range of accepted words pretty predictable. For the most part, the game’s limitations are a feature, not a bug. SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS: (1) please arrange the words you’ve found in ALPHA order, (2) be more consistent about accepting "er" endings of verbs. Why "iced" and "dicer," for example, but not "icer"?, (3) add a comment forum like the one the NYTimes Spelling Bee has, so Wordstorm fans can form a community. Thanks!

Love the game, just wish there was an option to list words alphabetically instead of by difficulty/score. It can be annoying to enter a word only to have it accepted before we finish typing it. Example, wanted to type in defended but word was entered after typing defend. Only then did it accept defend with different endings.

Been playing for years. First time this has happened.

We like this game and play a lot (you can go back to years of puzzles) but its so frustrating because the developers word list is full of weird and archaic words and it doesnt accept common really good ones. There is no way to get a hint if you get stuck and if you admit defeat it boos you! Then you reveal the common words you missed and theyre lame like beavering, rowel, bravi and inwove. Meanwhile it tells you that half the dictionary is slang and not valid, like binge and soccer. Many times we’ve found really good long words and it says its a valid word but not on the list and then Im supposed to find these nonsense words that even our spell check has never heard of. We got it a day that it was free but we would be annoyed if we had paid for it. Needs work.

We started playing last month. We really began to enjoy the challenge of increasing our monthly average. Then we noticed we were repeatedly getting the reply that the word was VALID but not one of the solutions. Annoying, but not a disqualifier. What has us ready to delete the app altogether is that we have two correct solutions that use ALL the puzzle letters but trigger absolutely NO RESPONSE. We see the developer has many apps. Quality is better than quantity.

The description says the solution will be 35 most common words that can be made from the 9 letters. That is never true. There will always be a few everyday words that are not part of the solution and a couple very unusual words. Im sure thats meant to make the puzzle hard, but it makes the description and instructions false. Id give it more stars if it were truthful with the player.

We dont know where you got your word List from but so many actual words are marked as colloquial or not words when they actually are.

We play this game every day until at or above 70, but the scoring is not by percent. It is an arbitrary number based on difficulty with the easy words getting more points than the harder words. Ex. We were at 65% got three of the more difficult words as shown by their placement in the bottom of the list and have a new score of 68%. 3/35 total words should have added 8.5% to the score. Why not just assign each word 2.9%?

This is a game of picking only the words that the developer thought of. All too often we layout great words but the game doesnt recognize them. We think the game needs a built in dictionary so it will know correct words when it gets them.

Does not recognize completely valid words. Sometimes it says valid word but not included fair enough, but mostly it just doesnt respond. Each time we get to 95% and cannot get the last three words. There is no option to admit defeat and reveal what we missed so we looked up a word unscrambler and tried every single one; nothing! We tried 2 more; again, nothing. We wonder what popular words we and 3 computer word unscramblers cannot find. We love words and wanted a challenge that would be relaxing and rewarding, not annoying and frustrating. Deleting this game now.

We love this game and play it every day. Its challenging and relaxing. Our one big complaint is that, although a player can select for US English, the developer must be thinking in British English. For example, the word soccer which is what Americans call the ballgame everyone else calls football, is not allowed. The game calls it slang. Please developer, soccer is a word in the US where football means American football. Also the word pram is considered a popular word. Not in the US. We have NEVER heard anyone use the word pram to describe a baby carriage or stroller. In fact most Americans will look at you blankly if you say pram. It is simply not used here. Please developer- check with US speakers.

Can be easy, can be challenging, but always fun. The best part is that there is no clock! We may work at our pace and come back over and over to any game that we have started. And it feels so great to find them all!

We liked this game at first, but found that even when we submitted perfectly valid words they weren’t always accepted. We take this to mean the words you choose have to be those specific words the author had in mind, and other words, no matter how valid, aren’t allowed. That’s OK, but when we got stumped, we didn’t see a way to get a hint, either! The idea for the game is good and the interface is ok, but it needs some work on the actual gameplay. Not happy we purchased it It wasn’t until later we saw the ‘lite’ version.

Would be fun probably if one could play something. Screen comes up, calendar marks the days and there is no way to play or instructions. Also invalid contact for author so we wasted our money. No very happy and surprised Apple allows this quality on games.

Go back to January 2014 and scroll up. It’s there! Why so complicated???

This is one of our favorite games by far… But this new version isn’t great. Every time the letters are shuffled, it’s very choppy/glitchy and the new font is distracting. Wish we could have the old version back…

Can’t get January 2015 to come up!

Where are the screens for 2015?

Cannot get the day Windows to open with our new i6s. Love the game but can no longer play it until the developers fix it.

A great way to pass idle time!!

We contacted Sean, the app developer. He was very nice and responsive to our comments about the update. He’s working on toning it down.

We have loved this game for so long and enjoyed playing it and relaxing in the evenings. Not anymore! The new update has horrible fonts that hurt the eyes. We had a headache after playing for 30 seconds. Please please please change the fonts back!!

This was one of our favorite word games that we played most often. Didn’t have any gimmicks. Now, however, we won’t be playing it. Hate the update. Don’t like the new, larger font, don’t like the score flashing, in your face when you make a word, don’t like the interface when you shuffle, don’t like anything about it. Please go back to the original! It was a much cleaner interface. This update just muddied it up. We won’t be recommending this app anymore.

Love this game. Great for giving your brain a workout in a short amount of time. We’ve been playing it daily for over a year!

This app just gets better with each upgrade. Still using this great app daily after 2-years. Thank you so much!

We love this game! The only way we can see to improve it would be to add a feature to display the words in alphabetical order. This way you could find the words you have already used easier. This would be especially helpful if you find some words, leave, then come back later to find more.

If they update to put the words made in alphabetical order (as MANY other reviews have also suggested) we would give five stars. Very good game, but having to peruse the entire block of made words to find one you want to see if you did already is a major Pain in the behind. Really, aside from that, it a great word game. We do seem to make a lot of words that get us the message that they are valid, but not part of the solution- but that is only annoying when we are stuck at 75% and really want those to count! :-)

A fascinating game.A glitch in the game is that it does not accept all words. It only accepts the words the creator cf the game chooses to accept for a particular game. This sometimes is frustrating. Also, agree that words should be alphabetized to help in solving a game. Otherwise,a really enjoyable game.

This is a great game. The only downside we see is that it doesn’t sync across devices. It would be great if we could start a game at home on our iPad, and then continue the same game on our iPhone while on the go. Any plan to make that happen?

We love this game, but… Some of the choices of acceptable words are a little ridiculous. For example, AHEM (as if clearing one’s throat) is an acceptable word, but MATH is deemed slang or a colloquialism? Also, words that are found should be listed in alphabetical order and sorted by number of letters.

Great app. Our dad and we compete to see who can get the higher percentage of words all the time and used it over a year. But would love to see a dictionary part of it where you click on a word to see what it means if you aren’t sure. Very addicting and at times can’t put it down.

Words should be in alphabetized and defined by length. When that happens we WILL give it a 6 stars.

We love this game but now there is no sound, and we hear sound on other games and mail alerts and messages. We went out to settings and we don’t see where to get the sound back. This is on our new IPAD 3.

This game is great. Very addicting and for those of you who are competitive it’s great to compare with friends to see what percentage you got. There are a couple downsides that are annoying. No landscape mode. Not fun if you are on you’re ipad and why doesn’t it sync across devices. Would be great if they added a dictionary.

Addictive game; however the dictionary and top 35 list is often puzzling and frustrating. How can hefted and haft be on the list but not heft? Not even in dictionary: vial, truer, trues, truest, … And the list goes on. Fix the dictionary!

We love this game and purchased it but it will NOT download…… Very frustrated!!!!

This game is limiting since it preselects the answers. We just hate the message, valid word but not one of the answers.

When you deem the word "soccer" a slang or colloquialism, we’ve had it. Obviously you’re not a sports fan. Since we live a good part of our life attending our kids’ "slang" games, we take offense to that. Looking for a better game.

The game doesn’t recognize all words, even common ones. Sound settings overwrite hardware mute settings, which is not good.

The developer of this game uses words not found in a US dictionary and ignores 100’s of words that are used in everyday conversation. Makes for an extremely frustrating game. Would not recommend.

Do not buy this app. You can spell loads of words with the letters provided and they won’t be accepted. Ridiculous. Only the words they identify are accepted as correct. Waste of money!

Our husband and we are now addicted to this game. Though we agree with some of the other reviewers that it is frustrating when you find a real word that is not in the solution, it is nice not having a lot of really obscure words clogging up the solution lists as happens in a lot of games.

It would be great to have this app capable of displaying/playing horizontal in addition to vertical (when rotating the screen, having the screen flip according to how the iPad is held). Adding a clock display that shows what time it is in your area and how long you have been playing a puzzle would be great as well. We’re not a big fan of the dictionary that was used for these puzzles seeing how half these words are a little far fetch; but we can say, it does make them very challenging.

With the middle letter always required in building words, that makes this game more challenging than other similar games, it definitely makes us think harder. Our one issue is that the random puzzle is anything but, you’ll get the same one or two puzzles over and over and over. Once you’ve gone through the back log of calendar date puzzles, not being able to play a random puzzle just kills the replay value of an otherwise good game. Fixing that bug would make this a 5 star game, in our opinion.

Is it really necessary to have a crowd of people boo us when we only get 92% of the words right? Real confidence builder!

We really enjoy the way this game is set up, etc. The biggest problem is that it does not recognize too many valid words, or gives the message "that is a valid word but not part of the solution". We are finding it more frustrating than fun. We have other, better word games that recognize all valid words. We will keep it for a while we guess, but seems just too limited in the words it recognizes.

Love this game. We hated that one of the updates removed random games. Thank you for bringing random games back. Great game.

Unless we are totally missing something, they got rid of some features with the update. You can no longer play random games and there is not a high score list. If you want those features, do not update. The additions are relatively insignificant. The game itself is still fun, with a nice UI.
