Hear from the Players – Zoombinis Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Zoombinis:

We’ve always loved this game and we really enjoy the tricky puzzles. We hope people also like this game to. There is really only one thing we have to come plain about is the hotel part gets a little too hard.

Used to play this throughout our childhood and was very excited to find it again! Such a fun game and so full of nostalgia for us :)

We got this because we wanted to play the Zoombini game Id had as a kid. This is very similar with only minor difference to sounds and animations from what we can remember. Our only complaint so far is that you cant adjust the difficulty level for the game, you can only adjust it for the practice level. We dont remember how that aspect compares to the original but we wish we didnt have to play the easy level 3 times in order to advance. Overall we are very pleased with it and our kids and we are having fun!!!

Zoombinis was our familys favorite game to play when we were a kid! Our sister and we would argue over who got play on the computer first. When we heard they recreated the game into an app we were ECSTATIC! We looked up the app and saw the pictures. Everything is almost identical to the PC version. We begged our husband for an iPad for Christmas just to play this game and it has not disappointed. The nostalgia is overwhelming lol. It took us back to 8 year old us. We immediately started quoting the pizza trolls and the narrator; we were even shocked we remembered it all. We love that they used the same voices for the characters. We really REALLY hope that they recreate more of the Zoombini games!! This game is worth buying an iPad to play! The only thing we did not like is the much much lower number of Zoombinis to get to Zoombiniville. The app has 400 while we remember the computer game having over 1000.

Loved this game growing up and randomly found it in the App Store only issues we have is that we cant hear any sound from the game unless we plug in headphones.

We were so excited to find this app for the iPad! There used to be a CD rom game of this game when we were a kid. Its great to have another chance to play it! This should be a new trend, to bring back the old CD rom games that were popular like Carmen Santiago, the Knowledge Adventure games like Reader Rabbit and Cluefinders, Jumpstart, and so much more!

Our sister and we played this when we were a kid. We honestly forgot about it for years before it randomly popped in our head and we looked for it in the App Store to find that it was actually a game that we can play on our iPad. Im so happy and it did not disappoint.

The nostalgia is real, but this is also just a really great, charming, thoughtful game made with great art and fun puzzles.

So happy this game is true to its original PC format. We love they kept the same audio!

Same game we played many years ago. Same characters, funny quotes, and narration. Our only complaint is you can reuse the same type of Zoombinis over and over so long as the group of 16 has no duplicates. This is a departure from the old version and to us this seems like a flaw since you can keep creating parties of nearly identical Zoombinis and flying through the puzzles. The idea behind the old version was you had to save every Zoombini (one of every unique combination). At first you could make nearly identical parties but eventually this would dry up and you had to start taking more diverse and challenging groups. Hopefully the devs can bring this element back to this version because without it, the game is lacking and can become repetitive.

This terrific game is stuck in an app that keeps crashing. We’ve been playing Zoombinis for decades from Windows 95 onward, and this app is a pretty good replica. It has a lot of the original Easter eggs & extras, as other reviews have noted. But TERC hasnt put out updates in a long time, despite that iOS keeps updating. Is that the reason for the repetitive crashes? Is there anything that can be done to make it more stable?

Sound doesnt work. No Zoombinis music or muttering… Am so sad. Cannot close Options screen.

We’re so sad that we paid for this app. It has no sound, and no settings area to manipulate sound. What fun is Zoombinis without the iconic sound? Such a disappointment.

We bought this for $3 as we heard it was good and educational. So, we cant choose difficulty at the start? (Presumably we have to beat the entire game first?!) And we cant save our game? (Going to the map resets.) How good can the game be if the user experience is so terrible? We know its a remake, but its a 2015 release, so theres no excuse. If anything, the devs had 20 years to realize improvements. This lowers the bar for educational games. Shame on you. And its been out for 5 years? If anything, make the limitations clear in the description. Money grab.

We love the game, but Can you put zoombinis mountain rescue on?

We thought this childhood gem was lost forever! This means so much to us!

At the "fork in the road", if you head to the left, after you seat your zoombinis correctly on the little boats and go to the lily pad frogs, we lose a zoombini.. Meaning we can’t level up that entire section because it forces us to continue with 15 instead of 16. Please fix so we can level up! Other than that, we love this game. It’s just like the original from when we were a kid.. Please make the other ones too!

We love this game, its just like when we were a kid. Please please make an app version of mountain rescue!!

There is no way a 10 year old can solve the very very hard level puzzles. We are 32 years old with a physics degree and it takes every ounce of thinking power in our noggin to get all 16 homies to Zoombiniville. 10 year old us would not have the patience and discipline to solve these puzzles. He would have gave up and started playing Pokmon Blue on his game boy once he reached the very hard level (which is exactly what we did back then). Im glad that 22 years later, Im finally able to beat this game. We highly recommend this game. It is in our hall of fame along with Oregan Trail and Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego.

Best game ever. Zoombinis for life.

On a hunch, we did a search in the App Store for the Zoombinis and was stunned to see that it was there in its original form. We just couldnt wait to play! This is our favorite piece of software ever! As a teacher, we use to play with our third graders and we played it at home as did our friends. The kids utterly loved the adorable blue creatures on their escapades to reach the home of the Zoombinis. They literally begged to play and we acquiesced. The logic skills they picked up! If we had to pick one piece of software for primary school students, Id select the Zoombinis. In the beginning, each Zoombini receives cute little attributes for their hair, eyes, noses, and feet which they are most often grouped by in the endearing puzzles. Im at the beginning level right now and Im running into problems with the Tatooted Toads. Im just going to have to keep it at it. Also something as minor as how do we move the lever to get the cart to go in at junction in Mirror Machine? As a teacher and as a former kid, we give the Zoombinis the highest recommendation possible. It is true to the 1980s form of the game with authentic music, graphics and gameplay. We want to see MORE of the Zoombini games, please!! As it is, we will recommend it to every kid, parent and grandparent we come across. We think Ill do that right now!

We do wish we could manually change the level during journey as our goddaughter is stuck with 160 or so Zoombinis that she can’t move because it’s too hard. Please bring us the other Zoombinis games as well!!!

We had a Mac version of this game when our daughter was young, and loved it then. This new version seems true to the original. 2D animated characters with the retro backgrounds are great. Teaches early math skills.

We absolutely love this game. We reminds us of the pic version. Is there any way to do mountain rescue and island odyssey like this? That would be fantastic if it could happen.

This is a family favorite game since we won it on cd-rom in a raffle in 2006. The challenges are a blast, and those funny little blue people never get old. You’ve got Zoombini fans here!

It is great to play a game we used to play as a child again! It’s still fun! After level 2, we always lose one zoombini at the stage with flog. 16 zoombinis succeeded to ride the boat, but only 15 zoombinis appears in the next stage. The experience will be much much better without this bug. Please fix it!!

We love this game, and we were pee-my-pants excited when we found the app; however, there are so many bugs in the higher levels that it makes it almost impossible to play through. It’s so great up until that point. We just want a fix so we can continue to play and love this smart little game!

We only have 15 going to the lily pads after bringing 16. So glad to play again though. How do we change the level? We’re stuck on not so easy.

We absolutely adored this game growing up, and spent many, many hours playing it as a kid. It was incredibly exciting when we heard TERC was going to update it and bring it to the App Store. Theyve done a good job bringing the game backthe game is even better with touch, the narrator and Arno are just as you remember them, the graphics are all pretty, the campsite easter eggs are there too! However, there are a lot of small things which make it hard to stay immersed. Some of the animations are choppy, the puzzle instructions are useless, the Zoombinis no longer make sounds when they walk, stuff like that. Recommended in the end, but would love to see more polish.

Flashing Zoombini parts don’t always change to match the part on the other zoombini. Flashing zoombini parts sometimes change to something that doesn’t match the zoombini on the other side of the big crystal.

We totally love this game and am in a race with our adult children to see who can be the first to save all the Zoombinis. So you can imagine our huge disappointment when the game froze. It will let us start a new game, but why would we want to do that when we already have about 150 Zoombinis saved and many others at the campsites. What a let down!

There is NO SOUND! Please fix this!!

This game is a sad remake. It doesnt even follow its own logic, it makes unsolvable puzzles on occasion and even changed the rules of the puzzles half way through! Dont waste your money on this. Very disappointing. We were a fan of the original, and you broke it. Shame on you.

Is the same game we used to play when we were 6 years old. The graphics are different but the story line the same. Great game! It teaches kids critical thinking. The game is worth it and it also has family share.

Like other we played this as a kid and still can play it and have fun.

Finally, (the logical journey of the) Zoombinis has made it from the PowerPC world and system 9.0! We almost cried 5 years ago when we upgraded our new Mac’s system software and had to give up several beloved games, chief among themThe Logical Journey of the Zoombinis. We discovered the game while working at an after school tutoring program. The objective of the game to get a collection of little blue creatures called Zoombinis, 16 at a time, from Zoombini Isle to Zoombiniville. To do so, a player must navigate a series of logical puzzles. At first the puzzles are relatively simple, but fairly quickly, play moves through four levels of difficulty, the fourth, "very, very hard" often being quite mind bending. It is not the sort of game you play in one 5-20 minute sitting. Rather you save your progress and return to the game, perhaps taking weeks or months to get all your Zoombinis to Zoombiniville. In addition, you can access practice mode to spent more time with puzzles you find more troublesome, more engaging or just more fun. One thing that is missing with this version that we think newbies are missing and that would be really helpful. In the old version, when you reached a new level of difficulty, the instructions displayed, when you clicked the help button changed. So, for example, at the allergic cliffs, at level two, you might be told that one of the cliffs looked for two attributes, say red noses, and roller skates. Without such additional instructions, the game might not seem quite as sophisticated as it is and one could easily conclude, as one reviewer did that it might be great for young kids who wanted to watch the little blue creatures get banged up, but hold little appeal for anyone else. Instead, it ought to be billed as a game for 8 to 108. "Fleens. You’re not Fleens. Whoever you are, make us a pizza."

We cannot wait to buy the sequels. We have loved this series since we can remember existing and being able to play it again really makes our day. Thank you thank you.

This game cured our cancer 10/10 Best pizza making simulator for children that we have ever played…

Our autistic son absolutely loves the game. Played it in primary school and now plays it constantly on his iPad. He is able to build skills in problem solving and more all while having fun!!!

We absolutely love this game & played it often as a child. The old school cd game we have doesn’t play in new computers, so we were so happy to find this app. There are some glitches as others have said, we’ve noticed them most in the mirror challenge–doesn’t really take away from the game too much, more annoying than anything else. It took us 3 days and many hours to beat the game. Even though we finished it, we could still play again to try to win more buildings for zoombiniville. The "very very hard" levels truly are that–I still couldn’t get them all figured out and relied on luck and many try’s to win. Really a great challenging game for all ages.

This game is perfect for adults and kids alike. The upper levels are actually pretty challenging. However the game is also really buggy. At many points sections of the iPad are unresponsive and we think the crystal cave is bugged. Still worth the purchase but we hope to see this fixed.

There’s a bug in the mirror puzzle that causes Zoombinis on the left side to become stuck in place. Please fix.

(Logical Journey of the) Zoombinis has always been the ultimate logic game. As a child, we loved playing certain challenges over and over, especially Mudball Wall. As an adult, we’ve got more strategy: intentionally losing Zoombinis so we don’t advance through the levels, whisking these quirky, endearing blue creatures through to Zoombiniville on easy until we get too bored and need more of a challenge. No matter your age level, no matter your strategy, this game has something to offer everyone–and it’s fun! We’ve logged probably 7 or 8 hours playing this version so far, and we’ve noticed a couple of bugs. 1. On the "Mirror Machine" challenge: sometimes have a hard time picking up Zoombinis on the top row. We’ve had to abandon them there because the game just wouldn’t pick them up. 2. With the "Fleens!" challenge on Oh So Hard: the game glitches out completely. If a Zoombini falls off the branch (only four can fit?), there is no option to move the rest of the party on. We have to exit to the map. This issue is not replicated in Practice Mode on the same level. 3. In "Pizza Pass" on Oh So Hard: sometimes the wrong audio plays. It’s the third troll’s voice, but the third troll isn’t there. Just a minor glitch. In spite of the bugs–which will hopefully be resolved!–this game is well worth the price. Educational, entertaining, and just plain addictive. Hip hip Zoombini!

Loved the game until we reached the higher levels… We can’t even get on to play our game, we can hear the noises but all there is a load screen. We tried making a new game and we can play that at the low levels, but am very disappointed that we can’t continue our other game.

We love, love, love this game. We are so frustrated. The game keeps crashing at the higher levels. We have dumped and reloaded so many times. We think we’ll wait for the updates.

We are another adult who loved zoombinis as a kid. We could not have been more excited when our sister told us it was an iPad app. Sadly it looks like we may not be able to finish the game. We hit glitches at Oh so hard in Bubble Wonder. We started getting the puzzles from Very Hard. Mirror Cave is the worst though! On Oh So Hard picking up zoombinis is hard, Very hard started with mirrors refusing to come off or lock on the platform. Now we’re getting unsolvable matches. The crazy thing is it all works in practice mode. Please, please fix this! We want to love this app.

We’re so excited to play this game, but once we downloaded it, the sound wouldn’t work on our iPad. We can’t say if it will ever come back on or how the actual game is yet, but very sad that the sounds don’t work. We did check the sound settings too, and they are on.

Seems we can get through about 6 screens before it crashes on an iPad 2, or end up with a undraggable ‘bini on Mirror Madness. We wanna be able to hand this to a kid, but having it randomly close and wipe out all their progress makes it untenable…

No matter how many zoombinis we guide through the mountains in the final leg in journey mode it stays stuck on the easy level. Too easy for us! The graphics and sound are terrific though.

We remembered this from our childhood so it was amazing to be able to play it again. However, once we get to "Very Hard," the Magic Mirrors challenge is impossible to complete because of the bugs. We can select the mirror but they do not "lock" on the platform. The platform glows and the mirrors stay facing the viewer but if you pull the lever, it acts as if no mirrors were selected and we lose a Zoombini.
