Townscaper – Casual Game Review

Townscaper Screenshot

Townscaper is a Casual/Simulation game from Raw Fury AB, first launched in 20th October 2021.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 927+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Townscaper Stand Out

Build quaint island towns with curvy streets. Build small hamlets, soaring cathedrals, canal networks, or sky cities on stilts. Block by block.

No goal. No real gameplay. Just plenty of building and plenty of beauty. That's it.

Townscaper is an experimental passion project. More of a toy than a game. Pick colors from the palette, plop down colored blocks of house on the irregular grid, and watch Townscaper's underlying algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration.

This Casual game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

Im very pleased with this app, works as advertised. Very smooth operation and good graphics. We highly recommend this after Ive used it for a week on iPhone 15 PM, good relaxing doodling with no competition factors.

The game is so good but we want an update with a human option in settings a time update too! Otherwise, this game is awesome.

We got this game since it looked fun, and we were right! No crazy interface, just tap to place/remove. This is great and we ended up playing for much longer than intended. If there is any plan to include future updates, we would love to see the ability to walk through the town in first person! PS: the addition of the birds on the rooftops is one of our favorite attention to detail additions.

We enjoy this game very much, and we have which we think is a great idea that we will surely love if it ever happens. THEMES! When you open the app, if you want to make a new town, after you click new button it will take you to a themes screen, in this screen you could just pick to do the normal Townscaper but you could also pick Christmas Halloween or Easter these dont have to be the exact themes it could be ANYTHING. Once you pick your theme, it will take you to the normal game. But for example, if Halloween theme gets added to the game, lets say the water is green to represent toxic waste, the buildings will have a much more October color with little details like pumpkins or anything related to Halloween, even skeletons! Im sorry if Im bad at explaining, but hopefully this gets seen, if this ever happens, the update will surely make us happy.

Please add on car or bike icon and we want to build shop, hospital, supermarket so we think you can add on this game is will be best town build game.

This game is so cute and we cant believe how fast time flies when we play. The only downside is that we wish there was a little more description of the option menu selections, but other than that this game is cute, charming, and super fun.

We love this game so much! Its so peaceful and fun. If youre looking for a fun game, that doesnt use your mind, this is the game. We really enjoy playing this game.

First THIS is the BEST game Ive ever had and we play a lot of simulation games :) we mean you can build anything with a few clicks its insane. We love this but we wish that there could be some people that is shown but this is pretty much the best thing on the app store.

Gorgeous, simple, the right about of stimulation. So good.

What an amazing game! It is wonderful experience, fun to play, relaxing, and we are extremely happy with it! We would say it's worth the price and definitely a good game! Buy it.

Best game Ive played on iPhone in years.

This game is, like seen in the title, The Crown of the Casual. We play this in our free-er time (AKA when Im not giving ourselves heart attacks playing survival games). But, of course, every game comes with a little puzzle piece missing, or more. The suggestions presented are a mix of our and others thoughts. 1. Quality of Life Dont get us wrong, theres plenty of lifelike elements like chairs, plants, benches and even gulls, but the town looks almost scared with the absence of people on the streets. So, as Ive implied, people would be a nice addition, riding round in little carts (or 50s cars if youre going more recent) and boats which could be given a specific path or have a procedurally generated path. Specifically vehicles, or if thats just too big of a scope, little people. Just little people. Also, as extras, you could add little streetlights so that theres more light than just windows, and maybe even a way to just walk around the place, going where you please. Except in houses. We could imagine that would be a nightmare to develop, or just be unnecessary. 2. Room for Creativity Now, while theres plenty of fun little combinations and such to experiment with, it would be nice to have things like material options (for example: wood, metal, etc.) or even terrain options (for example: grass, sand, trees, etc.). It would add to the experience. These options would be similar to the color picker for the house, keeping that effortless, calm town-making aspect while still bringing more options to the player. Of course, not all of these might be necessary, but its still a big game changer when you think about little cars moving about houses, little boats loitering, grass hills and trees near the gentle waters edge, and little shacks the lands share. If you read through this whole essay of ideas we had, thank you, whether or not you add them.

Townscaper is an absolute gem! Unlike traditional city-building games, it strips away complicated mechanics and instead offers a peaceful, intuitive experience. The controls are incredibly simplejust click, and watch as colorful buildings and charming streets emerge like magic. The way the game generates organic shapes and cozy little details makes every creation feel unique. The best part? There are no rules, no objectivesjust pure creativity. Whether youre making a tiny island village or a sprawling fantasy city, Townscaper lets you build at your own pace with stunning visuals and soothing sounds. Its the perfect game to relax with, and we highly recommend it to anyone who loves creativity and beautiful design.

Please do not change no ads. We love this game. A few simple updates would make it top tier.

You can build basically whatever you want and its really peaceful when you place down something. We think it was definitely worth it for 5 dollars. We would definitely recommend this game to anyone.

This game is beautiful! We have been really looking for a cozy game to enjoy our free time playing. Its an escape from social media and the outside world. We feel very simple but also creative when playing and the only other game that we feel this with is Theotown! We love this game very much. Thank you so much to the Devs for this wonderful concept. We have one request. Could you maybe put little people in the game? We would love to see little people interacting with the places Ive built, perhaps even making their own little additions like potted plants or flags of children playing would be so beautiful. Thats all, thank you so much again.

This game is so worth it. Its fun, its calming, most of all its ad-less, and NO in-app purchases! We love all the little details, especially the cute little boots at the door that pop up sometimes. But we feel like it would be so much better of a game if there was people in it. Seeing people go into houses, walk, wagon things, etc etc. It would add another element to the whole experience, cause, whats a town without its residents? Other than that, we would 1000% recommend this game.

This game is amazing and we have been playing it since it came out on mobile but Im kinda bummed that it has so much potential. Here are some suggestions 1. DOLPHINS there should definitely be more than just birds and butterflies 2. LIGHTS the two things in the game that dont light up (but should) are porch lights and lighthouses. 3. MORE COLORS they have all the colors you could want now, but custom colors would be nice or more variety.

Can we get post apocalyptic building and zombies.

It would be nice if you added detail like being able to put tables places And stairs wherever you want or trimming for the house or to add canals and being able to put roofs wherever you want instead of having to put different squares to change the roof and could you add people and maybe some docs and walls would make it really good we just like adding detail. But otherwise its a great game.

We love it. Each time we think we have maxxed out its aesthetic options, a new feature, arch, or delightful homey element reveals itself, and Im in for another chunk of hours. We appreciate not having to deal with points, strategies, or any other mechanic that just serves to stress us out. We love that its just the buildings, and minimal animation to make it feel lived-in. One wish/hope for the future of the game: a street-view feature that allowed us to advance along the paved areas, staircases, green spaces, beaches and waterways. Especially because the skins that already existits tantalizingly close now, but we clip through the buildings and eventually hit the limit of zooming in/out and repositioning. We can use our imagination to fill the inside of the buildings, but would love the ability to tour our towns as a pedestrian and experience all of their cozy, quirky nooks and crannies. BTW, Id happily pay for this or additional capabilities: street view, additional colors or cultural aesthetics, etc. But those are just bonuses. We love this game and want to say THANK YOU.

This is such a wonderful, creative experience. Not really a game, its a tiny little world builder. Calm. Beautiful. There are no mistakes, only discoveries. Small possible request: a way to have the lights in the buildings turn on near dusk, rather than only at night? It might be a nice touch.

We love it, but needs more futures.

We absolutely love this game. Ive always loved city builder games and the complexity just doesnt lend to a handheld game as far as Im concerned, but you guys have completely nailed it by taking out absolutely everything else except for designing a really cool little town. Bravo you guys did a fantastic job.

Open your creativity, build off one island or make multiple islands. You can bridge buildings , create towers, and scare birds. Its entertaining without having a defined objective. Like many others we would like to see it updated, not because things arent working but because we like it. We suggest different colors or more ambiance items, people moving about or sticking their heads out of windows, smoke from chimneys, little boats moving about, that sort of thing.

We love this game and we can build our own little town, we can also build cities, hamlets, and even big houses, its so good, its like our own little creator, shared by everyone, including us! We will play this game everyday, even after school, we love this game, we play it everyday, townscaper will always be our real dream.

We think that it would be worthwhile to remove the boundaries for the mobile version so we can make larger towns, like in the pc variation.

We love this game, our coworker said to us you paid 5.99 for that game we said yes, its just as much as a Big Mac and we get to use it everyday. No ads nothing extra. We would LOVE it you guys could add people, like just autonomous people walking around riding bikes, playing with animals, maybe like if a court yard appears there could be a swing set that spawns, them chilling on their balcony reading a book. Them playing in the beach. 10/10 love everything about this.

This is so beautifully rendered and immersive it seems to us that its begging to come to VisionPro. Even if it doesnt get the full surround VisionPro experience (which would be mind blowing), what level of effort would be needed no just make the iPad version compatible.

We cant say enough about how much we love this game. 10s across the board. Ive spent hours building castles, cities, and countryside towns. Our only wish is that they continue to build and add to this fantastic game. Id love to see landscaping abilities like hills mountains and cliffs, and more and more details. We hope its not just a one and done.

We like this game but if they ever make a Townscaper two we think there should be like people who live in the town and we think there should be and options to put grass trees an animals sum like that. And also being able to afford this game as a child like us is awesome. -and for the people that are reading this hopefully getting the game.

Hey! This is a really cool game, like our type of peaceful game! But its missing something hmm, OH ambience! Like ocean water and wind, maybe some seagulls screaming or little people chatting and walking around? (can only be heard when zoomed in close for people chatter or footstep sound) Oh and maybe some cool tug boats or some baby boats! And add some rocks to the edge or docks for fishermen, yknow more immersive! Love the birds pretty awesome! Great job on the game.

Would pay serious money for more features, but nonetheless great app.

This is a wonderful game. There are little surprises here and there. We would, of course, enjoy even more variables such as being able o change the colors and value of the sky and water. More colors, changing grids and more building shapes. We mean, the possibilities are endless! Thanks for this. We thoroughly enjoy it.

We love that we can make up our own stories with this app. Its fun to figure out how to build whats in our imagination and not have to worry about a horde of warriors busting the whole thing up. We do wish there were a few more animals, but all in all, a great little app.

Even if they not doing anything crazy just add people or boats that make the game feel whole.

We so badly want to see more things like this in the App Store and also the world. Thank you so much for this beautiful experience we think it is remarkable as it, but if this is something that is going to evolve, we are on board every step of the way. Imagine seeing little people populate the towns like getting to watch their little daily activities.

This game runs great on M1 ipad. First played it on a MacBook many years ago.

Amazing. Not much more we can add. The one request we have is an option to make the buildable grid non-irregular. Sometimes we get the odd looking structures because of the irregular grid and it ruins our architectural plans lol.

There arent that many perfect things in the world. The only things that we can list are avatar the last Airbender and the toy piano but this has to make top of the list some people have described this as a digital toy and we even think thats in the description well, then this is the best digital toy ever.

We never review things, not even when theyre bad, but we felt inspired. This game scratches that Urban design itch that we have. Usually we get it from Minecraft, but this game is a great pocket game to have whenever and wherever we want to kill some time and make a town.

You should add some little people!! Thatd be amazing.

This game is so relaxing and is one of a very few things that soothes our anxiety. The price is a bit steep, however its a good price to pay for no ads. A major thing we would like to see is a color wheel with customizable saturation. There are only 3 regular house colors and it gets a little repetitive if you dont like to use the non traditional colors. Something else we would recommend changing is the grid layout it seems very random and kind of awkward and possibly making an option for a square grid. Overall amazing app keep up the great work please.

This game is amazing, and we love the little plops and splashes that they make when you place them down. However, we do have some suggestions on what to add to the game next: 1:Add a button for erasing so that you dont have to hold down, and put it near the colors. 2: Add a function where you can paint a block: You tap on a block with a color selected and the paint option selected and it switches the color to the color you have selected. 3:Make the perfect circle shapes occur more often so that you can easily make floating islands without searching for hours first. 4: Add people around the town, it feels so empty with no one walking around or doing anything. 5: First person camera: Make an option so that you can walk around the town in first person. 6: Add a tutorial on how to make all the different types of buildings.

Hello! We just wanted to say that this game is amazing! You can play it for hours as their just is no limit to anything you can do! We have been playing it for while now and we just gotta say, it can be played from dawn to noon, and from dusk to dawn again! We play it as a chill game, to just relax and calm down after a long day, as the calming noises are just perfect! A few recommendations. One, could you add a random color, like it would place random colors every time you placed it down. Two, could you make it easier to play down builds in a larger amount? We dont mind how you do it now expanding the island would be easier! Thank you so much for the masterpiece and goodbye.

This is a very casual, relaxing game that allows you to flex your creative muscles. For only $4.99 not bad at all.

So we love this game we play it quite often but when we place a certain amount of blocks it starts to glitch so pls try to fix it.

We love this game so so much, its so creative. And so well put together, Some things we would add to the game are: birdbaths, Vines, Trees, Random cats on top of buildings, Boats, Fountains, flower pots, Shop signs, Gazebo.

We love this game so much. It's really relaxing and fun. We think it could get really better if we can choose the blocks style like traditional Japanese houses and other. Thank you so much for creating this incredible game.

What a bizarre and relaxing thing. Great concept.especially the gulls behaviour. Some ideas. Itd be cool to have little people living in the houses and going about their businesses, shopping and having parties. Unlimited map size. Keep it calm and low key. No gems.
