Mysteries of the Past: Shadow of the Deamon Reviews

Wow! What a fun adventure, lots of hidden object scenes, puzzles, voice overs, teleporting map, not to mention an exciting storyline. We stumbled across this game by accident & what a Treat! Very well done, developers paid lots of attention to detail & graphics. Really hope to see more games from this developer soon! One of our new favorites!! Thank you for such Great Entertainment. KdBoots.

This was really good, better than most BF games we’ve played. Good length, interesting puzzles, played on expert because we hate sparkles and did not need a walkthrough. The map has a helpful mark for where something needs to be done. We did not experience any glitches or issues other reviewers mentioned, dev must have fixed all with the updates. Hope to see more from Blue Brain Games!

Easy and Fun. Not glinchy. Just need patience to learn how things work. Imaginative.

We purchased the game and we just played it from beginning to end without any glitches or program failures. The graphics were great on our iPad Pro and we loved the hidden object games and puzzles. Either the problems others complained about have been fixed or they simply didnt exist. We liked this game and we recommend it to you.

You guys outdid yourselves!!!!! Our hubby and we have played just about every adventure game there is and this one was absolutely amazing!!!!! We mean the story was great, really great, the graphics were amazing and the game itself was like the energizer bunny, it just kept going and going and going….. Every time we thought we were at the end, we were pleasantly surprised with more gameplay, more fun we just can’t thank you all enough for the days of fun. All we can say for the bad reviews is that they just need to give it another chance because this game is FANTASTIC.

The bad reviews are unfair since they’re in regards to an old glitch that was corrected. The game itself is a nice long length, fun puzzles, good storyline, and fun HOGs. We’re not a fan of HOGs in the first place… But this game made them bearable by using different styles (find pairs, place items into scene, etc). For context… We used to play every BF game that came out. But apparently, people complained about having to walk around too much in the game…. So all BF games now find and solve inter-actives within the same scene. And half of any game is filled with HOGs. No brain or logic required. Just tappity-tap-taps. They lost a lot of gamers because of this. This game isn’t difficult. And not a lot of walking or extended thought process required. But still better than all the developers that contribute to Bf games nowadays. And it was half price of BF games too. So that’s a plus.

Not sure why this game had such poor reviews. We had no glitches at all. Fun game.

We really enjoyed this game. Keep them coming.

We were directed to this game by a player from a review of a different game. The premise does not introduce any new ideas or themes, but the dialogue is entertaining and explanatory in a practical way in order to complement the storyline. We admire the perspective of the main character as you frequently hear her contemplations. The graphics are shy of high-quality standards; they appear somewhat fuzzy and granulated and could use some refinement. You cannot customize your settings, which unfortunately impedes satisfaction. We normally abstain from using skips and hints; however, we prefer the opportunity to use such features if desired. So we chose the middle mode and was bombarded with an onslaught of sparkles, including in the journal; this is quite distracting. The inventory is labeled; not interactive. We appreciate that one only needs to click an item and tap to place in lieu of the "dragging" method. The teleport map was adequate in that it smoothly sent you to the desired location and indicated the ones with available actions. The journal recorded thorough story progression and clues. Why there is a camera, we do not comprehend yet; it appears to be solely for the purpose of adding entries to the journal. The HOS consist of the customary types we have seen before; however, they are pleasantly effectuated with abundant varieties of current-trending, translational sequences. The HOS seem to outweigh the puzzles in appearance, which is beneficial in this case; the puzzles are mind-numbing and unchallenging as they require few steps to complete. Transition between scenes is smooth and brisk; no glitches so far. This is a decent game, but it falls short of sophistication. We feel as though we’re being pulled back and forth like a puppet regarding the positive and negative aspects. Overall, the game incorporated some nice variety, including an interesting storyline, a journal, and lengthy playtime. It’s just that it is missing some important components, such as customized settings, superior graphics, and challenging puzzles, which are the reasons why we rated this four stars. It’s still a worthy game for only $2.99.

We are always on the lookout for new developers and adventure games. When we saw Shadow of the Daemon referenced in a review for another game, we were happy to give Blue Brain a try for $2.99. Unfortunately, unless they significantly improve quality in future games, we probably won’t buy another one. That said, we were impressed by the result given their choice of Unity as the software platform. It is very difficult to build a game as complex as this with Unity, and they clearly have strong programming skills. However, we think Unity is also responsible for some of the technical issues, including heavily pixelated cut scenes and erratic cursor selection. The game runs fairly seamlessly with the exception of infrequent but sudden re-loads; some of these were unfortunately timed and interfered with user experience. Other issues we suspect are unrelated to Unity. The hint system is inconsistent, often directing you to two different places at once. There were mechanical problems with some of the minipuzzles, which were otherwise fairly easy; for example, it was impossible to select and place the segments of the padlock design. Most of the game features and controls are rudimentary. The map is a basic layout that labels rather than illustrates the various scenes. It enables teleportation, but does not indicate active tasks. There are no collectibles or morphing items. Difficulty is not configurable, and there are sparkles everywhere. There is a journal that captures your progress at a high-level, but the camera shown on the screen adds no true value. We could not find a strategy guide. The HOPs do have variety, and we like the type where you return items to their proper places. At times the story drags, but there are also moments of real suspense. There are several hours of gameplay, although the "bonus chapter" isn’t a bonus; it’s the last chapter of the game! For the reasons above, we can’t recommend Shadow of the Daemon. But if you do play this, be sure to watch the credits that give thanks to "wifes and girlfiends" among others. :-)

How did this get past apple’s inspection? The fonts are so small you can’t read them.

This game was developed by Blue Brain, and we had never heard of them before. Obviously now we know why! This game had some redeeming qualities, but it certainly was not what we would say was fantastic. There were multiple difficulty settings. You were provided with a cohesive journal, which included notes, objectives and your map. The map could also be accessed from its own tab, and at least it was a marked teleport map which enabled instantaneous transport between locations. There were no morphing objects or collectibles, which suited us fine. The storyline was one we have encountered many times: an evil being stealing the life force of human beings to gain immortality. The graphics were of average quality, and at times it was difficult to find inventory items because they were so small. Inventory was labeled, but there were no complex items to assemble. The HO scenes had NO ZOOM feature, making them tedious to play, especially when items were practically off-screen! They consisted mainly of word lists, replacing items in the scene or finding pairs. The puzzles/games were mostly garden variety rotational types, jigsaws, and codes. Nothing was exceptional or extremely exciting. However the game was a decent length inclusive of the bonus adventure with a plethora of tasks to accomplish at each location. For the price it was a decent time waster. We didnt encounter any glitches. However, this game seemed quite dated (no zoom, no complex items, boring puzzles and HO scenes) so to us it was merely average. Our review will remain at 3 stars.

To open the pouch on the skeleton: there is a horseshoe-looking thing at the top right of the scene. Drag it to the pouch and it should open. Ours just shows the curser, but it does work. Fun so far.

Jack bar is just gone. This game has a ton of glitches.

Too many Hidden Object games for us.

Had it finished in just a few hours of play. Not for someone that has pretty advanced experience playing this type of game.

Please fix this – a hidden object game must allow game players to zoom in to the scene to find objects. Also this game is Not Scary.

Loved this game and have enjoyed playing it. However. We are so frustrated that we got to what seems to be close to the end. There is an impassable glitch in the room behind the pool where are you cannot select any of the hidden objects to cross them off the list. We have restarted, deleted, reinstalled, etc. And its obviously a glitch in the game. So frustrating!! What a waste of our time!

LOVED the other 2 games but this one has many flaws and glitches which make playing it a real chore. Glad we played the other 2 first as we would have NEVER bought them after trying this one.

Bought the app and downloaded it three times. Opens a profile screen That you cant do anything with and Thats all it does for $2.99.

The games would lag and freeze hints were useless and a couple of times things would disappear and the guide online didn’t actually help the forest was the biggest problem couldn’t move past the hidden object because nothing could be used.

We bought this because of House of Davinci. This game is not even close to that caliber. Waste of 3 bucks. We only played the first two obstacles but it was a like pulling teeth to get elements to work together or read anything. Who designs a game for a phone but makes the text so small it takes a magnifying glass to read? There is plenty of room to make the copy much larger Why pop zoom elements in a window? Just make a new scene. Navigating around is slow and sluggish. Anyway, if you make any updates, we will give it another shot.

This game is awful and not worth the money. There is no means of saving steps taken or progress. Tapping on the inventory items sometimes does not select the item. We would not categorize this game as an Interactive 3D game. It is a poor attempt at it. Do not waste your time or money on this game!

Plenty of FREE hidden object games that are way better (if u like that kind of thing) otherwise it’s clumsy, bad controls, bad graphics, bad overall. Deleted within 10 min out of frustration and disappointment. Garbage.

We cant even play the game with the profile bs. We want our money back!

We were excited to play this game after playing the House of Da Vinci, which was amazing, however, the graphics for this game were not nearly as good and every 1 minute it crashes. Very disappointed.

House of DaVinci was genuinely a good game. This was NOT. Im mad we wasted money on it.

The app isnt full screen on the phone and the app will not allow it to be. You also cannot zoom in on hidden object stuff, making it impossible to play.

Dreadful game to play on your phone, maybe on a tablet it would be okay. Tho you would still be left with the bad game design as well as dialogue and voice acting so bad its comical.

Three minutes into the game and you have to find a hidden object that isnt on the screen and there is no way out of it. App Store wont allow a refund request.

Like another review stated the Skeleton in the Forest can not be passed. Every guide and walkthrough consulted shows the player opening the magazine pouch to retrieve a device to find the final item. We’ve spent over an hour systematically trying every spot on the screen over a few play sessions. There does not seem to be a way to open the pouch to retrieve the item shown in the walkthroughs.

This game was enjoyable with an engaging storyline until we got to the forest and then couldnt find all of the hidden objects. Perplexed, we caved, and when we looked at a walkthrough, we discovered that we didnt have the full screen option turned on in the game, and so some items werent even visible to us. The game would not let us turn on the full screen (there was apparently the option to do so, but when we clicked the button nothing happened), so we cant finish the game, and we were just getting to the good part where the magic seemed like it was about to begin. We also noticed that there hasnt been an update to this app in 4 years. We feel very frustrated and disappointed that we paid for a game we couldnt even play all the way through and that we wasted so much of our time getting to the forest. We downloaded this game, because we had just finished The Da Vinci House by Blue Brain Games (absolutely incredible game) and expected that this game would be awesome since it was made by the same company, but not if you have a newer operating system. We should have listened to the one-star reviews. Lesson learned. sighhhhhh

After enjoying House of Da Vinci we were happy to see another game fro the same company. But Mysteries of the Past is nothing like House. Perhaps we should have read the reviews more and looked at some walkthroughs – but we didnt. After all of 10 min play we realized this game just sucked and we deleted it.

Alas, like the other bad reviewers, we ignored the reviews because we thought, blue brain made other great games, surely this is similar. We WAS WRONG! Dont waste your money. There was a glitch that prevented us from moving forward not that far into the game. It was impossible to move past and they havent updated in 6 years! So, take our advice-spend your money on something else!

We really enjoyed this game. Good storyline and game play; until near the end. There is a puzzle of sliding tiles on a padlock that you arrange to form a bird but their is a bad glitch where we cannot move certain tiles. If we touch tiles near it, those tiles PLUS the one we want will move. But try to just move a particular tile and it freezes. We checked a YouTube walkthrough and that player moved any tile he wanted wherever he wanted. But with us, we cannot control the movement at all. We emailed the developer and received no help. Shame since it was a pretty good game.

Got stuck a few times, in the lobby and in the skeleton pit. Things that are supposed to work , didnt work- we had to restart the game. Disappointing to have to go through all that to get to the same point and then have it work. Something is wrong with the software- want our money back! Too bad, a cute game- but very frustrating when it doesnt work…

Some puzzles will not complete due to bugs. We stopped at the skeleton jaw opening one due to bug. We reviewed several walkthroughs, but they all said the same thing.

This games is a rip off!!! It gets stuck in different places. You lose items you found, they just vanish. These game developers need to start being held responsible for keeping money paid for a game that is subpar, that you cant even finish. We even tried playing as a different player and it just got stuck at another area. Terrible!

Waste of money pretty much sums it up. Playing this on an iPhone screen is ridiculous. No zoom and the mapping for the touchscreen is awful.

Every time we shut it down to do something else, when we restart the game it makes us go back to the very beginning. Im in some kind of loop. Not working on iPad Air2 it seems. Looks like a fun game it we could just continue, but we cant play 24/7 until we finish.

Was liking this game but it want open the pocket to get the tool to pry mouth open on skeleton. So we can get a feather. We’ve deleted it an reloaded it twice now.

We were interested in seeing what other games this group had made after playing the house of DaVinci, but this game is trash. Difficult to navigate through the game. Very frustrating to play as a result of this.

The HOG with the skeleton in the forest froze at the very end trying to find the feather.

Theres a bug in the burial scene that stops progress.

Dont waste your money if you have an iPad. You will get stuck at skeleton aside and many others have. There is some stupid glitch that does not allow the interface of an iPad to get past the screen.

We enjoyed the game until we got to the skeleton in the forest. We found all the objects, game keeps saying the magazine pouch is not complete. Even watching a video by blue brain on how to clear this obstacle doesn’t help as it shows them simply opening the pouch. Frustrating and just plain wrong. Can’t go on.

Buyer beware, this game is clunky and for us unplayable and we have a brand new IPad. Our guess is it is not compatible with more up to date systems. If you are using an older one, then you might be able to enjoy this game. Either way, we wouldnt pay for it. If you are looking for a good puzzle point and click game, we would look up Blue Brain games, The house of Da Vinci. Now thats an excellent game! Honestly, Im sure it was a good game for its time. We gave the 1 star review, because on newer systems, we dont believe it is relevant and want to save some people some money.

Anybody know how we Can get our money back ??? Im so tiered of. Buying a game, playing for 10 min. To find the game is broken. We know its not much, but it adds up.

Worst ever! Glitches throughout!
