Firefight – WW2 is a Strategy/Simulation game from Sean O'Connor, first launched in 8th June 2014.
It’s rated 12+ and currently has 1,996+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Firefight – WW2 Stand Out

Firefight is a World War II real-time simulation game with more AI and attention to detail than any other game in its genre to date. Tanks are modelled with a physics engine and have gears, rev counters and speedos, and steer themselves with brake levers to give them realistic looking tracked vehicle movement. Each bullet, shell or piece of shrapnel is modelled in 3D and ricochets realistically off sloping surfaces. You can see each infantryman's rank, name, weapon, ammunition remaining, heart rate and fatigue levels. Machine gunners will call for ammunition when they're running low and other squad members will rush over with spare ammo if they are carrying any. Wounded men call for medics who will sprint over to administer first aid. Off-board artillery can be called in but will have to fire several ranging shots before the full 8 gun battery opens fire simultaneously.

Play against either the sophisticated built-in AI, or a friend over the internet.

Community Insight:

We love it. But we think it could be made better with air strikes and snipers. The air strikes can consist of fire bombs, rocket barrages, strafing runs, and large bombs. Id also like to see some beach landings and night fights with flares. Please include Iwo Jima too. We think scouts need to be more effective at scouting. There should be a fast forward function. The enemy is still able to conceal themselves even when Im right on top of them. Please also make rifle fire more accurate. We can two full squads firing at one guy and it took them 5 minutes. It would be cool to also have Viet Nam war maps and WW1 maps too. Give us an airfield to assault and some pillboxes to go up against. Id like to see some urban warfare maps as well and maybe also give us the ability to take control of one of our own vehicles. Lastly, Id like the ability to drop our paratroopers into the combat zone rather than making them start on foot with the other units. There also needs to be a way to assign different units with a target priority order so that our tanks dont target an infantry unit when there is a tank or canon aimed right at it. We think that there is also potential to integrate a top down bombing campaign too. We think that with these modifications, this game will be incredible.

This is a great game and we love playing it but if there was a modern version of this we think it would be even better.

Okay this is much better but what about a patrol mode where you can set a path or area for your units to walk or drive around.

We're not paying that much to play this game. Make it worth it or something, For example: make it so you can buy the maps individually, or make it so you can buy every single map for like 10$ or something, The game is great but its just too expensive.

This game is great, however, it would be so much more fun if there was the ability to speed up the pace of play. Including a 1.5x speed, 2x speed, 2.5x speed, etc. Button would massively improve the playability of the game.

Would be cool to maybe see a modern conflict version of this game maybe the Ukraine Russian war and other wars theirs many mods for the pc already like this and we bet an iOS update like that to be able to jump even into the early 80s or 90s would be cool.

We used to love playing this game on the PC. Love the nostalgic feel of playing it, its exactly how we remember the sounds, graphics and gameplay. Its an amazing port though we do wish they kept the chamberlain declaration of war intro speech in the menu that would have been great to hear.

The battle of the RHINE World War II March 7 1945 its just a bridge that the Germans are defending. You have a Calvary going through but you saw the option. Its just the last bridge so thats it. We wanted to say bye your game is good though.

Ive been looking for a platoon level strategy game for awhile and Ive finally found it in Firefight. Game is addicting and fun. Comes with 3 purchasable campaigns with many maps and scenarios. Im having a blast. Just in case the dev sees this.. First, thank you. Second, idk how difficult it would be but could we have stats for the individual squads on the after action report? Again, thank you and we cant wait to jump back in.

Your game actung spitfire you could add those into firefight for close air support we dont know it would be kinda fun to put the anti aircraft units to use and shoot down planes or add paratroopers you probably wont see this or Ill either take it down just would be a cool idea.

Firefight is a stunningly detailed tactical game that brings World War II combat to life on your iPhone. The game features meticulously crafted units, each with unique characteristics and visual appeal, making every battle feel realistic and immersive. Whether youre commanding infantry, tanks, or artillery, the attention to detail in the units is remarkable. The gameplay is both challenging and rewarding, requiring strategic thinking and precise execution. From planning your attacks to managing resources and positioning your troops, Firefight offers a deep and engaging experience that keeps you coming back for more. Recent updates have enhanced the game even further, adding new elements and improvements that keep the experience fresh and exciting. These updates show the developers commitment to continuously improving the game and keeping the community engaged. One of the most impressive aspects of Firefight is the creator himself, Sean OConner. Not only has he developed an incredible game, but he also takes the time to connect with players. We emailed him with some questions, and he kindly responded, showing his dedication and approachability. We are all eagerly anticipating more updates and features. With each new release, Firefight becomes even better, and we cant wait to see what Sean OConner has in store for us next. Firefight on iPhone is not just a game; its a labor of love that brings history and strategy to your fingertips.

Super cool game even all these years later. We wish we could see a Vietnam version of this game for real.

One of our favourite game series of all time is Close Combat. These games showcased different campaigns such as the British operations in Holland, Russians vs Germans in the Eastern Front, and the Normandy campaign, and gave top-down views of the battlefields. We spent hundreds of hours immersed in these games, and was really bummed when the franchise moved away from that format into more modern, fire-team tactical games. Then for work reasons we switched over from PC to Mac, and since then havent been able to find a good MacOS or iOS port of the games. Until now. We first downloaded Firefight a few years ago, and it immediately scratched that itch for us. Sean OConnor has done an incredible job creating an entirely new game that feels very familiar. With core game you get one or two maps, and you can unlock other map packs for the European theater, Russian front, and Pacific theater (which we dont believe was ever included in the original Close Combat series). Sean has also done an incredible job designing the iOS controls. It did take us a little bit of time to figure out the small details, but they were designed intuitively enough that it didnt negatively affect the amount of fun we had. If you are a fan of the Close Combat series and miss playing it, give Firefight a shot.

Playing your game reminds us of unlocking levels as you progress, not paying 40$ for 4 9 mission locations: great general strategy, would be glad if you get 3 stars the next level unlocks. Really our only issue.

We have a few new ideas if u want to incorporate them within your game 1 you should add a medical person to every squad and nation, 2 u should add a feature for soldiers to pick up wounded teammates snd bring them to a safe distance to rendure aid, and 3 you should add a different game mode like have three objectives to hold on the map.

We have been playing the game for a few weeks now and its a blast but we just recently tried to use diamonds to purchase some gold but it took our diamonds and we didnt receive our gold we lost 200 diamonds and we also was awarded gold and didnt receive the gold.

So we can play the tutorial but we cant play the normal missons without paying 10$ AAAAH.

Would be nice to change the side of the map we want to play on in the custom mode. Just like in the campaigns the side you start on and position your troops sometimes changes.

Can you make the first front free because you cant do much except totoral and theirs people that cant pay the 9.99 to get the first map.

This is a very good game & It probably took so much time & effort though we think we found an inaccurate level the Dalnegorsk levels cause Dalnegorsk is not on the eastern front at all we mean it is in the USSR but near the border of Manchuria & not Germany but still every game has problems & it doesnt effect the gameplay so still 5 stars.

While we havent played the full game we know its really good and also we think you should make a modern one if there was a modern one we would instantly get it.

We have nothing to complain about. All around amazing game with updates often to get new vehicles. Great community.

We absolutely love this game and have paid for all the maps. Only thing we wish you guys could do is make a modern version! IM BEGGING YOY GUYS Theres not a lot of rts games that are anywhere near firefight but a modern version would be next level. Modern tanks units artillery etc! And you could probably add aircrafts in with airstrikes and gun runs of sorts. Just an idea but we think it would definitely pull a lot of buyers.

This may just be us but maybe it would be cool to have a full on sandbox mode with full A.we on A.we battles.

The game part is so cool. The AI works surprisingly well. Exactly what we were looking for. We like basically everything about this game, except one thing. You see, you can play the tutorial in many maps, so endless fun right? No, like we said, you can only play the TUTORIAL in those maps. So many different scenarios in every map, blocked by a pay wall. But the AI movement system is good, so is the game itself. Its really fun and we recommend you give it a try. (Though things happen a little too slowly.) Did we mention we also like the detection system.

We originally left this game a long time ago because we thought it was abandoned. But we came across it and seen it was being updated. One suggestion that would take this game to a whole new level is a map editor with simple capabilities for now (ex: raising elevation to your liking, placing plants, etc). Also even adding customizable points for troop placement. A editor alone will make us change our review to 5! Great Work! (mods..) Edit: changed to a 5 cause Im still loving the game.

First of all, we love this game. We had it for almost about a year and bought all the map packs. The unit movement is great but can always be improved, the variety of units is enormous, and the quality of the AI is great. Its easy to win now, but a simple mistake can still cost us the game. However we always wanted to see an editor. We wanted to move the flags that you can capture, the spawn area, and even something that can allow you to build a map. Overall a great game.

We love this its so easy to get lost in. Hope you keep updating and adding new content.new maps and campaigns would be awesome Ive played through it like 10 times and need more. Also if you were able to customize the enemy team in custom that would be a cool add on.

Ive had this game for a couple of years and eventually bought all the maps. Its realistic, fun and addictive. It was pretty much the tactical game we were looking for. Its cool to pick between the different maps, armies, and time periods as those alter the options good amount of thought went into this. Its worth the money to support such code development! The 80th anniversary made us think that it would be interesting to have a few Normandy Beach maps. We think it would give an appreciation for what an impossible task that was as much as a game can do that operation any justice, remembrance, or homage. Similar to the artillery, youd almost need a paratrooper drop option to have any chance of success, as the 101st gave the Allies the night before.

Its so weird how underrated this game is. Amazing graphics and visuals to represent whats happening, as well as an awesome npc combat system. A few AI problems with unit control, but overall, a great game! Go play it.

We like the game a lot, we believe the strength of it can be laid in its sandbox style and the custom battles. The player should be allowed to use whatever unit they want and also fight against whatever unit they choose. So customizable enemy teams.

This game is awesome all it needs is built in mods.

The tank AI for the player is some of the worst Ive ever seen. You tell the tank to go in a straight line 10-15 feet through bushes and it drives to the main road where a Pak is staring just to die. It happens to often where your tank will be told to do something, do the opposite and just die making your rating go down in the campaign.

The AI for your units is extremely slow to react, dont follow orders sometimes, and will almost always lose a straight shootout. Especially with tanks even if you have the element of surprise the enemy tank can usually still shoot and kill first.

The game has potential to be great, but the AI refusing to follow orders and tanks being unable to see things directly next to it holds it back.

Ive played this game on mobile since 2018 and is has not gotten boring for. Also a great stress reliever.

We bought the game three years ago. We still pick it up and play it. Great buy for $10. Ill probably buy the next add on soon too.

Love our PC RTS so we have a lot of fun with this game Id love to see a modern version in the future.

It would be a really good idea, in our opinion, if this style of play was translated into other conflicts. For example, the Korean War, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and the War on terror in Afghanistan would all work really well with this style. Its one that isnt seen much, but it is executed very well here and it would be a shame if it was limited this much.

We like the game and realism of it, but even then recon was a function needed in combat and frankly, a little tired of running into ambushes or no ability to move to a position with cover and LOS. Other than those, great game.

It took us so long to find an actual strategy game where you can command troops with precision. Absolutely love the sound design and the explosion/bullet visuals. There is obviously a lot to improve like tank to tank combat being a race between us holding down the button before the ai destroys our tank. And then theres the pricey 30 bucks for the entire game, but with the amount of free maps unlocked, its fine. Either way we hope to see more updates.

YOU SHOULD MAKE A MODERNISTIC FIREFIGHT DLC.

Its a solid game and good at realism but we paid for the full game and future updates but the Japanese campaign is locked still Im wondering why.

It is a good game. We have some problems with it like the infantry AI how old they will crouch down for no reason and we wish there was more options to how to move your troops. Number one that is something that you should add is we know you almost got Poland done please hurry up and that, can yall please add Cuba as it was technically they did fight in World War 2.

Thank you for the new pacific maps they are amazing! Countless hours of game play makes them so much fun and we appreciate the work you put into this game. Maybe a north Africa expansion next and eventually adding airstrikes or staffing? One thing we would like to see is adding more units maybe to 20 besides the current 16 limit. We play customs games with our friends and love the large scale engagements. The game is great and well worth the 10 dollars a map pack costs.

We need war in Ukraine war in Afghanistan war in Serbia pls pls.

Good game the only problem is ther is only 20 mission And if you want to unlock the rest you have to pay That is the only problem for this game.

Great game, but we wish we could play it online.

First, make continuous updates that make the game more user engaged. Like an online platform that allows players to play with people not just locally. Or add new in game components to keep the game alive. We highly encourage to make more maps and make it more customizable. With customizing, make the custom mode able to restrict certain troops/vehicles/etc. Possibly bigger maps for more in depth and strategic battles. Add planes and/or ships. Include a higher max count for troop selection, smarter and harder AI, and the ability to have multiple AI with different or same country troops. We see a lot of potential, with good reviews and a big audience of strategic enthusiasts. This game could really make the big leagues, if done right, and if the game does not die out. Also, a modern version of this gameplay wouldnt be a bad idea. Other than that, the game is simply brilliant. Well done.

We absolutely love this game. Been looking for something like this for a long time! What we hope could be added is a sandbox mode where you arent limited to how much you can put on the battlefield and can see both teams/move both around to see what happens? If so, would make it even better.
