Community Insight:

We really wish theyd make the sequels available for iOS.

Beautifully done, we played the original but all puzzles seem new to since so much time has passed. Hope they continue the series.

We already have a PC copy of this remastered version. We just finished the Chapter 1 and really liked the experience. Im about to purchase the remaining chapters as well.

We grew up on Sierra games in the mid 90's and the Gabriel Knight trilogy was by far our favorite. It still has all of it's charm and thanks to this game we finally decided to visit New Orleans for the first time last year. We've been back 3 times since. We'd love to take a Gabriel Knight tour or maybe we will just make our own… Thanks a million to Jane J for this incredible work of art and to all of the team at Phoenix for their hard work.

It was so nice to see this beautiful old Sierra game remastered and made available for play again. Even the voices felt very true to the original, and in some cases actually sounded a little more polished than we remember. It was an excellent story back when it was on PC, and it was nostalgic and awesome to get to play through it again with the updated graphics. Definitely worth a look.

Gabriel Knight is one of the best interactive fiction games from the height of the genre. The remake brings the classic back to life without destroying the charm of the original. Great job.

This was a great buy. Gorgeous graphics, not buggy, and challenging puzzles at times. Sometimes we definitely resorted to reading an Internet walk through because it's been so long since we played the original. We agree that the voice acting is pretty humorous. We appreciated that you can see all the interactive parts on the screen, and that the journal can also provide hints. Interesting way of charging for the game; we guess selling it in chunks of days helps not scare people away with an upfront $10+ price tag.

This game is so awesome! It was inspired by the movie Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke. That alone is so cool. We remember the movie and buying this game our sophomore year at U of M. It's just great that they re released this!!! We watched the movie on Netflix again tonight and thought about this game.

We're so happy and grateful this game has been resurrected for the iPad! We played it on floppy disks and loved it then and loved it now. It's a real story with real mysteries to solve, varied clues and puzzles, a world of interesting locations to visit and characters to talk to, and just plain fun to play. We were completely engaged. There's a real learning curve to the gameplay, though, and we were helped by an online walkthrough that taught us certain things about how to play. We won't add them here for fear of spoiling. But we nearly deleted the game in the free part because we didn't understand quite how to play. Once we got a few tips, though, we were off and running and spent days with SotF like we would with a good book, always looking forward to getting back to it. Worth every penny of the purchase price to play through to the end! Thank you, developers.

Gabriel Knight was really fun back in the day and we love the improvements and porting for the iPad. Some of the quest solutions aren't quite intuitive, but the in-game hints are great. It remains really fun and atmospheric. Here's hoping we get an iPad sequel.

This is a great classic point and click game. Anyone who is a fan of broken sword or monkey island will love this. Hope you guys bring the rest of the Gabriel knight series to iOS.

We've been missing a REALLY GOOD point and click mystery in the App Store. This is it. We never played this back in the day – we were a kid when it came out and it was too mature for us. We have, however, been a fan of point and click adventure mysteries for years and it's rare to find one with an intriguing story, voice acting, an expansive world, and challenging puzzles. Actual detective work, too! Hands down our favorite mobile game so far. It has a nice built in hint system that only spoils as much of the game as you want it to. Our only suggestion would be to make some hotspots farther apart. This appears to be a leftover from the PC version, but precise clicking is not as easy when using one's fingers.

We noticed a bug with skipping dialogue (it often resulted in two characters speaking at the same time), but other than that, this game was perfect! Wonderful storyline, graphics, and UI. Although some reviewers complained about the voice acting, we personally didn't mind it. Looking forward to future ports.

This is the game to end all games. If you love to be transported to another world when you play a game, then this is it! Gabriel Knight is an incredibly well written game with great characters, and an even better mystery. Set in New Orleans pre-Katrina, Gabriel is a not very successful author and bookstore owner with a wicked sense of humor on the trail of a voodoo murder mystery that quickly becomes very real. The locations are immersive, with tons of detail and interesting things to see and do, and real characters to interact with. The gameplay is natural and easy on the iPad. We envy anyone playing it for the first time.

We loved this game when we played it back in the 90's, and we love it now. This is a great game! We'd like to see some of the other old games come back like this such as Police Quest.

We debated four stars or five. This was one of our childhood favorites, so we're partial to it. We think the story and writing are far above average, and remind us that before the age of flashy graphics and high framerates, writing mattered. That said, this is very much a point and click adventure. This genre does not appeal to everyone. It isn't always apparent what you should do next, but the hint system is good. If you liked the other Sierra titles from the 1990s, you will like this. Well worth a download. The first part is free, and the rest appears to cost about ten bucks, as you must purchase different segments separately.

We played through all 3 original GK games. As well as all of the games in the Kings Quest and Space Quest series. They are all excellent and worth your time, but Sins of the Father is something special. The other series we mentioned were great fun. Challenging puzzles, large environments to explore and witty and clever writing. All of those elements were present in SotF as well, but it also added a story with real depth and character development. This is the very first game we can remember playing that actually felt like an interactive film. The whole thing worked so well in large part to the exceptional voice acting. Actual speech in games was relatively rare in 1993. Outside of intros and cutscenes, it was almost unheard of. Not only was every line of dialogue voiced, it was done so by the likes of Michael Dorn, Mark Hamill, and Tim Curry! This is where the problem is. The updated graphics are fantastic. As far as we can tell, it is scene for scene, line for line, identical to the original; save for one thing – the cast. No Tim Curry. No Mark Hamill. No Michael Dorn. The new actors aren't bad, but for people that have played the original, it's a glaring omission. Original GK: SotF – GK: SotF 20th SE – Yes, that is 6 stars out of 5. Yes, it is THAT good.

First thing we wanna say is about the voice actor who's doing Gabriel. We saw someone else's review complaining about his voice acting. After hearing him…. He's actually doing a pretty accurate representation of what the great Tim Curry, who originally did the voice, sounded like. We love this remake, and we've already purchased the second part. We absolutely loved this series as a teenager, and it's so great to play through this first one again. We're hoping they bring out 2 and 3 also! For anyone who enjoyed the original…. We strongly recommend this. If you're new to the genre, this is a very well written and detailed story that starts a bit slow as you're learning the characters and premise of the series… But this game ramps up nicely and gets very dark, and very suspenseful by the end. Give this game a shot if you're at all interested in the classic PC point and click adventure games from the late 80s and 90s.

This game is so amazing. We're jealous of anyone getting to play this for the first time. The puzzles are great but the story will THRILL you! The first game we ever played that felt like we were in a movie. So many twists, turns, and surprises await you. And we can now say that the mobile version is the definitive version. Since the first chapter is free you are getting a bargain just for that. Turn off the lights and prepare to be enthralled.

The tone and mood of this adventure has a really good vibe to it. In 1993, this really raised the bar for what a narrative can do in a game. It holds up very well today because good writing is always good writing. We dont understand it when little kids get on here and rate it poorly because its file size is large, or yelling RIPOFF because the FREE download contains Day 1 for you to try before you buy. Obviously dont pay attention to these kids, because this adventure game is great, and you can check it out for free to see for yourself.

You cannot miss this game. This set the bar for adventure games in the early 90's. Only thing missing from this updated version are the original voice tracks. Hopefully the two sequels get the same treatment.

It's our favorite adventure game of all time and the iPad edition remains amazing! We totally recommend it to everybody.

Our favorite classic game of all time,.

Great game. Our review is about game on iOS. Just as fun as the Erika Reed game, however that one plays smoother. This one has framerate issues and locks up briefly a seconds or 2 sometimes when the characters speak. When skipping voices it sometimes fast forwards a whole screen so we miss what is said. The Erika Reed game didnt have these issues. All that said, we hope the other Gabriel Knight games are also released on iOS so we can enjoy them on our iPad.

Loved Gabriel Knight when we played it in the 90s. This is a pretty good update. Got us hooked. Didnt mind the voice acting unlike some reviews. Biggest problem was the zombies in the snake mound. Very glitchy. Very frustrating. But we lucked through it once. Overall fun, good game.

The plot and the gameplay are great. However, a lot of bugs are frustrating. Not only the animation is weird at times (characters moving backwards, heads flying off etc), but we also have quest objects disappearing or the order of events getting broken. Not great for a game thats more than $10.

We are a huge fan of the original and visually the update is stunning but where is the sound? We are playing on an iPad Mini 2 running iOS 10.1 but the game has no sound despite force quirs and restarts.

Voice acting should have been left alone. Cutscenes do were much better in original as well. Controls are clunky often sending you out of the zone instead of towards an object of interest.

The game is graphically beautiful with highly detailed scenes. That would deserve a 5 star rating. What kills us and our interest is the poor voice acting. The narrator sounds like Mother Hubbard and the Gabriel voice reeks of overdone Marlboro Man. The only good voice is the gal Grace. That part rates 1 star – maybe. Thankfully you get to try before you buy here or we'd be asking for a refund.

When will developers realize that on games like this the story and voices are everything? They have the story part down pat. No problems there. But the voices? Ugh! That guy as Gabriel?!? No offense to the actor but he sounds like someone imitating a Southerner rather than a resident of New Orleans. Our first thought on hearing him speak was, yuck, that's what we're going to have to listen to. We may buy the rest of the episodes or we may not. Likely not.

This series is one of our favorites that we have on DVD: however, it will download and show the menu, then is goes completely Black with sound.

Played the original version of this on our pc many moons ago and loved it so we thought Id give this one a try. All we can say is was Gabriel such a revolting sleaze in the first game? We remember him as being borderline sometimes, but mostly a decent and likeable character – maybe it was how Tim Curry voiced the character, maybe changes in dialog – IDK. What we do know is we absolutely cannot stand him or the slimey way he is voiced in this version – only made it a few scenes in and could not take it anymore. Other voice acting as far as we got seemed fine. Great game but we cannot recommend this version – get the original from GOG and play that.

We just can't get the mime to follow us. Why should this task be so difficult? After two days of fruitless attempts we are now going to erase the game so we're not tempted to try anymore. And seriously fix the voices. Barf! Oh well.

For an app…seriously puhlease.

Is one of the worse game we ever seen in our life.

Only Day 1 is free, and it only takes about an hour to complete. Ripoff! Clunky controls. Interesting story though.

Who in the world chose THAT guy to voice Gabriel Knight? Can't stand it for a minute, we're out.

The Steam version has achievements. Is it laziness not to include them in the iOS version? It feels like part of the game is missing and that's unfair. Please fix this in the next update.
