What Makes Madness at Hobbsgate Stand Out

Madness at Hobbsgate is an exploration adventure game inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, where players explore and investigate a large open world map, progressing though an engaging and exciting story. It is a mobile phone adaption of the classic text-based adventure genre, similar to the point-and-click classics. The game combines a bleak environment, an sense of underlying dread, and several moments of comedy to keep you entertained.

As the fourth game in the "Horror in the Darkness" series, the protagonist finds himself trapped within the walls of Hobbsgate Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Unsure of how he came to be there he finds out quickly enough that the line between sane and insane can often be blurry.

Community Insight:

The story that began in Horror in the Darkness ends here. We loved these games, and we wish there were more like them available on iOS.

Author did a good job on this. Solid, not overly wordy, sensible puzzles, clean interface. Common sense stuff like used up items getting removed. Not too much insta death. This is basically what you envision when you think of an actual good text adventure on mobile. Nice work.

Binge these in a few days. Annoyed with ourselves that we needed some hints but still fun.

Its too confusing the entire game makes no sense we cant even get passed the first part, the hints are useless and you literally cannot do anything to get passed it 0/10 probably one of the worst games Ive played a big waste of time.

Probably our favorite of the series.

Really enjoyed this adventure, looking forward to playing the others. The story really gets involved and we wish there is a follow up sequel to this one.

This game and the others in the series are challenging, fun, and exist in a universe that truly does feel Lovecraftian. We sincerely hope the developers continue making more games like these.

It usually takes quite a bit for us to rate a game 5 stars, and this game deserves it. We applause the storyline, and the use of the objects are not super obvious yet not too obscure. There are a couple of grammar errors, but that makes no real difference. Great job! Keep em coming.

We really enjoyed playing this the first day, but now it wont open :( tried reinstalling it, too.

First off Id like to say this game was great! Ive played and beaten all 4 games now and if a fifth one comes out Ill be sure to follow suit. Just out of morbid curiosity are there multiple endings to this game tho? There were a few items we never ended up using along with a room or two that never became unlocked like the room where you turn the power back on for the elevator that takes you to the basement. You dont have to tell us exactly how to reach the diff endings if they are there but we are curious if there are different endings! Please let us know.

Very enjoyable text adventure in the style of lovecraft stories. The interface makes it easy to play on mobile. If your a fan of Lovecraft youll have a good time with this series.

We've played all 4 of the Horror games in this series and have enjoyed them all. Kind of a throwback to the Dungeon or Adventure or Rogue games from the '80s. We definitely required the hints at times to nail down the details of what we had already deduced we needed to do but that's ok. Still a lot of fun. As long as these games keep being produced, we'll probably keep buying them.

The story is very Lovecraft-esque but the music is repetitive and too subdued for the atmosphere being conveyed (we.e. Not ominous enough). A couple of the puzzles were also immersion breaking due to the number of actions needed to solve them.
