What Makes Four Last Things Stand Out

Pilfer from poets, bargain with bishops and serenade the local simpleton on your hapless quest for absolution. Four Last Things is a point-and-click adventure game made from Renaissance-era paintings.

It's kind of like if Monkey Island had been made in 16th century Flanders, by a time-travelling Monty Python fanboy…

***In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. God saw all that he had made, and it was good. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

'Ooops,' said god, seeing he had created a fool. But before he was able to remedy his error, man spoke;

'No backsies!' he chirped, and scuttled off into the forest.***

Community Insight:

We have never heard of this guy but we are giggling to ourselves as we play because the dialogue is so funny. We wish all games had writing as witty and unique. Of course if you love Month Python you will love the art. Any lovers of Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle will also fit right in. Worth every penny.

Short. Quirky. Easy to navigate, straightforward puzzles. There were elements that were never used. Wish there were more to the game but clever while it lasted.

The concept and design are truly one-of-a-kind. There's certainly a lot of humor to be enjoyed but some character interactions are a bit rote and superfluous…some possibilities left on the table. The musical choices are appropriate but they do get under your skin after awhile. We'll echo the call for adding Game Center achievements. We look forward to checking out this dev's other titles.

This is a FANTASTIC game. Its funny and just like it says on the tin – Monkey Island meets Monty Python. Our only critique is that it is just crying out for narration. PUH-LEEZ add voice over! Id do it for free.

In the room with the dancing baby. No way to exit no matter where we tap. Frustrated. Using iPad. The developer got back to after we send an email gave us the solution to this room. Tap on the face between the lawyer and the flute player. Other than that one glitch…AMAZING.

Stunning Renaissance art Plus+ Meditative classical music Plus+ Intelligent puzzling Plus+ Clever developers Equals= An amazing, memorable adventure game like no other.

We truly enjoyed the art and music and style and everything about the game. The puzzles made us think but also were achievable as we enjoyed going through the world. Hilarious, we laughed way more than most games meant to humorous. Loved it.

From the beautiful art, the monkey island references, to the puzzles and to the hilarious dialogue.. We are so glad we came across this gem! Thank you to the creator(s) ! Now, can we get a part duex.

Awww this did remind us of Monkey Island, except that is was short…like prob 3hours of gameplay. But, because it was so perfect, we didnt mind the price. Def a game maker Ill keep our eye out for new releases from.

Beautiful, smart, clever, challenging, funny, high-brow and low-brow in equal measures. Buy it and play it. The only think we could want from this game is just more, not because it needs more, but because we just want to stay in this world.

Truly can say Ive never had quite so much fun with a game since, day, Monkey Island. The artwork is terrific (well, naturally, since its all taken from masterpieces) and the plot and dialogue are very Monty Pythonish. Puzzles arent too hard, although we needed to sneak a peek at a walkthrough once or twice. Also, if youre playing on an iPhone, a few of the point-and-click sweet spots can be small so you have to proceed carefully. Not a major problem. Downsides: Short. Annoyingly repetitive music. No multiple endings. Upside: so much fun! So original! More, please. Theres plenty of art in the world that needs game-ifying.

This game is absolutely hilarious and beautifully done. Just wish there was more.

Just wish it was longer. Maybe expand on the end scene.

Five minutes into this game it was already well worth the price. We have never laughed so hard at a game. Plus, the puzzles are genuinely clever.

Art, culture, religion, humor … (Trump would hate this game.) This game is going to feel like dejavu for those who took any art history. The artwork/setting is like a review of the first semester – a good, fun review. What a novel idea, melding classic art into a world and characters to create a game. It works! Slightly Challenging puzzles, not terribly difficult but requiring some thought. This is, so far, the most amusing and snarky game we've played; we even LOLed a few times as it very British – we think it reminded us of Monte Python. Visually fabulous, clever, sophisticated, entertaining and 100% enjoyable. We enjoyed the experience most of all because, by the time it was done, we had been reminded that, in spite of current events, through time humans have created some wondrous things. And it was fun.

If you like point and click adventures, this game is perfect. It's funny, well written and the logic is tight and adds another layer of hilarity. Our only criticism is that we wanted it to be a much longer game. Bravo bravo bravo. We will definitely redownload and play again in the not too distant future.

Excellent point and click adventure..really glad we discovered this before release Only thing is we wish the dev would have included Game Center achievements like the ones in steam/pc.

One major error is you cant click on the top row of paintings or anything at the top of the screen because it will default to bringing down the inventory bar :(.

Im enjoying this game a lot, BUT we are struggling with a glitch, and couldnt go farther. We cant get him to drink his beer! He was able to fill it up, but we cant get him to drink it! Help.

Its hard to find doorways and transition points.

Cute dialogue at times but we did everything correct to earn envy but it wont show up. Same conversation with the pipe smoking old man several times and nada. Not worth paying for this game which is high on frustration and low on fun.

This game is beautiful to look at but is repetitive, the controls are clunky, there isnt much to explore despite having to click on absolutely everything to figure out what you COULD interact with or what doors or directions you could go in. Some of the puzzles are extremely simple and some were impossible. We didnt finish this game and likely wont.

We paid for it but didnt play it. First 20 words insulted God and we deleted it.

A bit short, but greatly creative with humor reminiscent of Monkey Island.

We love the way the art work is incorporated into the story. Absolutely beautiful and funny. It takes real talent to pull off a fun, beautiful, and entertaining game like this. Bravo.

This was our favorite game in a long time. Its very clever, the writing is hilarious, the game itself is entertaining. We expected to love it based on other reviews, but it still exceeded our expectations. We cant wait to see what Richardson does next! Bravo! (Clap clap clap).

Awesome concept, very witty just wish it was longer.

We love this game what a great job the only question we have is we have and iPhone X are you going make it so the picture fits the whole screen.

Kudos for a novel artistic design. We loved the period illustration and music. We loved the Monty Python-esque absurdist humor. The game mechanics are intuitive enough for anyone who has played adventure games before. The iPad version lacks mouseover clues on hover (e.g., can we go in that door? Can we talk to that person?) so there is a little too much tapping required to figure things out. The main problem is that the game is too short, and the ending is rather dissatisfying. Great start to what we hope will be improved in the future or followed by a sequel.

We were excited to get to be able to pre-order this game as we love point and click type games AND Monty Python type humor! We took a risk pre-ordering without the benefit of any reviews. Never again. Controls are far from intuitive. Music is annoyingly repetitive. Im going to keep trying to play and like this game, but so far? Not worth the price.

Pre-ordered and received a notification that its ready, but it wont download. A disappointing start.
