Dive into Aliens versus Humans

**"In Onslaught players can expect the kind of portable X-COM experience they’ve always wanted." –148apps.com
**"AvH: Onslaught is like a tribute band for X-Com – it hits all of the same notes as the original: recruitable (and re-nameable) troops who learn as they gain experience, cagey aliens who see in the dark better than you do, bases that you build and staff, research that you direct, randomized combat maps – the whole lot." — pockettactics.com

AvH starts with 25 heart-pounding, intense training missions. Through 25 missions, get upgraded gear and face tougher aliens. These missions will get you ready for ‘The Onslaught’ where you’ll be responsible for world management.

When you think you’re ready, you can jump right into the Onslaught.

Hear from the Players – Aliens versus Humans Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Aliens versus Humans:

Since we downloaded this game, the best of the genre, IMHO, we’ve actually completely forgotten what the original x-com even looked like. This game had become our new standard. Love it! Idk if its an Easter egg but we’ve been able to exploit a glitch regarding infinite grenades. No apparent limit. Works with all grenades and when we research the alien grenade, Im able to exploit that too. We can then stock up on a thousand of them and sell them back. For !$!$!$

Game locks up when you try to select the very first mission (Back To Roswell). Cant bring myself to lower our rating though. So happy its back in the App Store. Please fix bug and Ill even buy some in-game currency because you guys are awesome.

While Im optimistic theres deep systems and mechanics here, a broken/unplayable tutorial paired with a pay-to-play feels disingenuous at best.

The game locks up when starting the Training Missions. The tutorial and Onslaught mode work fine. Onslaught is a decent version of X-Com.

Great when we can open it up and load our old game…. Lame, dont buy.

Total money grab by some crap team that bought the rights to classic game. Shame on you.

Game freezes when you end your turn. Game freezes when you try to start the first tutorial mission. Rip off.

Awesome game, we grew up on xcom terror from the deep and its required 8mb of ram this is the closest youre going to get save this code: you’ll need to decipher it: 21:15D7BFFC.

Buyer be ware!!! This game is unplayable and freezes when you attempt to play! Also the game only plays in one third of the screen! Worst purchase ever and we had to contact customer support to get a refund for this trash!

Relived by teen years of playing X-Com. Plays great on the iPad, and its just the right amount of difficulty. Edit: Now it’s list another crap-filled micro-transaction game.

Great game, great app support/updates.

While this is not the original, it is as close as we will ever get as Firaxis may not be able, or willing for that matter, to port X-COM:UFO Defense to the iOS. Changes needed made: Ability to demolish rooms from base Ability to load research without scientists More to follow as we play more.

Fun, suspenseful, open framework, good balance. Nice game.

Great game. A few things from the original xcom we miss, but lots of fun and very well executed.

It’s OK, but we would like resilient armor to not be made out of mech corpses(IT’S REALLY ANNOYING WHEN YOU HAVE TO FACE ONE-SHOT-ONE-KILL PLASMA AND ENERGY WEAPONRY).

This is great reminds us of the original xcom.

Great game from our younger days. Love it.

The tech tree is to small and the ending a bit anticlimactic. The graphics and some of the gameplay has been simplified, but it’s still fun to kill aliens, do an autopsy on them, and then sell their corpse for money! Do the under water one next! :-)

This game feels like the original X-Com from 1994, and we are having a blast playing it. We’re not entirely sure how much of our enjoyment of this game is due to nostalgia, but we don’t care. The turn-based combat is brutal – especially when compared to titles with a more modern aesthetic. But surviving those difficult battles is part of the fun. We definitely recommend this game.

We played the original X-com and find that this is as much fun, and it’s great to be able to play it anywhere on the iPad mini..!

Just like xcom and pretty difficult too.

Before the IOS port Release of Xcom This was THE only Xcom type game available in the App Store. Loving crafted by a two person Husband-Wife team, this games only real shortcoming is the lack of attention it’s received. Having been regularly updated with content for over two years so far, AvH is a true gem for anyone who loves classic Xcom.

If you liked xcom you will like this. Haven’t played to far in yet but we think the original xcom is better obviously.

We do videos on this game, look up kingdamon2107.

We loved the game as a kid. This game is everything we had hoped. Including the nearly iPad Throw inducing random critical hit from an alien smugly hiding in the shadows (you can see the smug on his green, featureless face). Who can forget being gunned down by friendly fire as Kilwoski finally snaps and rage-quits your squad while yelling "Game Over Man! Game Over!" Ok, the game is retro in appearance, however the gameplay is every bit the equal of, and likely surpasses, it’s modern counterparts. Just game (no IAP at the time of this review), and we keep coming back to, second only to Star Base Orion, in our go-to library. Wonderful game. Responsive company.

Having earned our stripes in the origins of turn based strategy games such as XCOM, Jagged Alliance, and such we speak with much experience. This is a good mobile version of a timeless classic.

This is one addictive app! We’ve really enjoyed the Onslaught update that really has the feel of the old x-com game. If you liked x-com you will love AvH.

This is lacking in some aspects of XCOM UFO Defense, such as air combat, base assaults, terror missions with civvies running around, some grenade features, but for the most part it’s a pretty good port for the low price. They are working on another related version with multiplayer (I’m in the beta), and that is quite a lot of fun too.

If we didn’t know better we would say this game was created by microprose themselves. The art design of the aliens is not as unique as the original, but the game plays exactly like the original game we all loved. It’s a shame how underrated this game is, it truly is masterpiece of fandom and we are grateful for the dedication the developer put into providing us with this nostalgic experiance on the mobile platform.

We purchased this a long time ago and am still loving it. Replay value is great. Nostalgic value is great. Support by the tiny development team is great. Our only complaint would be that the latest update requires a different iOS from the one when we purchased AvH. But we can and will continue to play the previous version for a long time.

Summary: This game would really be great if the peons weren’t instagib supersnipers and the enemies were more thoughtfully conceptualized. This game is so close to XCom you’re better off reading a review on that to get the gist of how it plays. The developers surely worked their tails off making it. But they really failed in making it a fun game. The enemies aren’t interesting at all; they are generally homologues to your own troops. The one unique enemy, the lowest tier as well: a slimeball that slings acid blobs at you, is incredibly accurate at range and quickly upgrades to an instakill weapon. While the mechanics are there for a good XCOM clone, the theme and immersion fall very short.

We would like to see interceptions, enemy bases and Xcom base deffence. We would also like to see more enemy types and facilities the game enemies are also way more powerful than your troops.

This game will give you the feel of the original x-com, but it lacks the polish and is a great work in progress. We commend the author for their efforts and hope that they continue to engineer the depth and polish that could make this 3-star fun game into a 5-star must have. We hope they keep at it and the project doesn’t fester like most things on the App Store.

We were so excited to find this game since we were feeling nostalgic for the original X-COM game. And this is a good fun imitation that works fairly well on our IPad. However, it’s a little buggy, with bad physics programming in many situations (try standing up and throwing a grenade over a waist-high picket fence). The biggest shortcoming, though, is that it just isn’t as deep as the original. The old PC game was spooky and scary due to the plot (when the aliens start abducting your marines and playing mind control games on them, for example), but even the 2.0 version of AvH doesn’t really have a plot. It’s just one fight after another, with no sense that the aliens are improving at the same time the humans are. We still enjoyed it quite a bit and recommend this game. But it’s very shallow.

Not worth the 3 bucks. Can only play the campaign for 6 months(game time) before it says you lost funding and shuts you down.

Stop the greed. Do not support IAP.

You simply can’t finish this game without need of purchase gadgets that cost money. Anything with micro transactions are not worth a star, specially when game itself cost money. We wish we didn’t spend our money for that. Game is playable for couple of hours only. After that you will run out of game funds, and game becomes a storage hog unless you decide to fork out more cash.

Was looking for the original or a version of it for the iPad, this falls way short both in graphics and gameplay. It’s much shorter than the original and lacks almost everything that made the first game fun, it’s just a cheap ripoff.

Lame game can’t request on refund on website due to it not loading properly on our iPad. Please refund.

X-COM revived! First strategy game we ever played and it still has us wanting more! Great Job, peeps!

True to the original. Hours of fun!

Just what we needed. Seriously, this is a must-have for fans of the old XCOM games and just a hands down great game.

Just when we thought Xcom was out of the craze with "Xcom Enemy Unknown" AvH comes out and shows us that Xcom still has a reach in this time period. It’s not a FPS it’s a real hard strategy game with routes to its role model the legendary "Xcom UFO Defence" along with the fact that they constantly update it you need this game if you loved any of the xcom games. A must buy best strategy game on the app store, get it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game is awesome! Its been pretty close to exactly like the original for us so far. We just hope we can get to do the part we loved most about the original. We loved having the psych power to control the aliens with your mind then you could just walk them around killing each other. Loved that so we hope it’s still in this game. But so far so good for us.

A great little tactical combat game that just gets better with each release. Here’s hoping ESP and fighters are in the works as well! Edit: after more play time, we’re still very pleased but have some requests: – more strategic mission types, like "prevent destruction of a strategic resource" (oil field mission), "save the civilians for more funds/researchers/engineers", etc. Currently there’s no reason not to trash the town during a mission. – Better LOS code for multi-level missions. Currently it’s very easy to see enemies when LOS passes exactly between two wall tiles on different levels, but shooting is still impossible. Do we have LOS or don’t I? – Auto-save when the game is unloaded by the OS. Holy Jesus is it frustrating to use a couple other apps and come back to the game to find the opening screen instead of our mostly-completed mission. We know this is possible; other games do it all the time. Please! Seriously, we’re begging. Otherwise, a fantastic game. Great work!

As a big fan of the original X-Com, we think this game does a great job of bringing it to iOS. Well worth the price!

Seriously better than the modern ‘re-creations’ in this series. This is the style and format that made the game have its fame! Now with base development, too!! Buy and support am awesome venture!

As another nostalgic Xcom fan, this is a great turn based strategy game and best we’ve played on the iPad. Very true to the original in form and function with some depth lacking (such as crashed ufos, base raids, etc) but future updates look like they will add that. We’ve already sunk 20hrs and still going. Controls are better than we expected with only minor issues selecting tiles immediately behind the character. Only small, small complaint is some line of fire quirks in which aliens can fire at you but you can’t fire back. This is a top 3 app for us. Now if you guys could port over star control 2…….
