Dive into Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager

Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager (SPM) Road to the Moon is the ultimate game of space exploration.

It is the mid 1950s and the race for dominance between the US and the Soviet Union is about to move into a new dimension: space. Take charge of the US or Soviet space agencies – your duty is be the first to the moon. Carefully manage your budget by opening programs, spending R&D funds on improving the hardware, recruiting personnel and launching space missions in this realistic turn based strategy game.

Road to the Moon features the race to the Moon, the historical event that started in the early 1960s and that ended in July 1969, after the successful completion of the Apollo 11 mission.

The game features both a campaign and a sandbox mode. In campaign mode, you will be able to play as the Director of either NASA or the Soviet Space Agency in order to beat the other side to be the first on the Moon. You can also lead the Global Space Agency (GSA), a fictional space agency that combines programs from all the major space agencies in the world. In the GSA campaign, you will need to address the requests and short-term goals issued by government, and is geared towards those players who prefer a game experience focused on exploration instead of competition. Alternatively, all three space agencies feature a Sandbox mode, which provides a more open-ended experience and allows you to try out different approaches without any political pressure.

You will be able to develop dozens of programs. Some examples include the X-15 and the PKA space planes, the Sputnik satellite, the Mercury, Voskhod, Apollo and Soyuz manned spacecraft and the Mars Viking probe.

  • Three different campaign modes: play as NASA or the Soviet space agency in order to be the first to the Moon or play as the Global Space Agency (GSA) and deal with the short-term objectives issued by politicians.
  • Manage all aspects of your space agencies from their inception in the 1950’s through to the manned lunar landing missions
  • Play the race to the Moon campaign mode against other players using Slitherine’s cross platform PBEM system.
  • The Sandbox mode allows you to play as any of the three space agencies and removes all competition restrictions.
  • Create space programs and launch missions inspired by real programs such as the X-15 Space plane, the Sputnik satellite, the Gemini, Vostok and Apollo manned spacecraft and a lot more!
  • Research and develop dozens of mission components from several program categories.
  • Develop your facility with advanced structures and upgrades including the Vehicle Assembly Building and the Mission Control Centre.
  • Recruit and train astronaut candidates and assign them to missions.
  • Assemble an elite team of Scientists, Engineers, Technicians (SET), Flight Controllers and Flight Crews for the best chance of success."
  • Manage your agency’s budget.
  • Mission components have an associated reliability factor and can cause catastrophic failures.
  • Vast amounts of historical research ensure that the game’s huge database features missions that launched and many more that never left the drawing board!
  • A vast array of components built in 3D and rendered out in exquisite detail allow you to follow the progress of your missions via animated sequences.

Designed in consultation with Dr. Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot and the second human being to set foot on the Moon.

Hear from the Players – Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager:

They should add space shuttles or Space stations, other than that it is a good game.

Love you guys. Thank you for keeping our mind sharp and trained. It transfers over to real life skills. We know its NOT slithering updating this game, thats just the publisher. Love you Polar Motion Studios. Tip: Look into how you can create a more, faster version of this game, keep the same challenges, add more animated graphics, basically more sizzle for the visuals, and bring it over to Nintendo Switch… Hot cakes that system right now! Go investigate.

We enjoyed playing this game, but don’t expect much replay-ability after your third game.

The multiplayer client does not match the server version. Please at least get it in line with the desktop version.

Good game but most extended missions are bugged and keep repeating itself.

If we want to interact like a PC we’ll use one. Less than 2% of all app developers know how to code for AND affectively use a "touch screen" device! They all think and develop still in a PC design mentality with buttons to push to exit or touching little arrows to page through something, et cetera, etc. Use the bloody touch gestures built into iOS for crying out loud! Then this developer uses blue font on varying shades of blue background making reading unnecessarily difficult text. If you can’t design in the iOS world, stay in the PC world.

We cant get past tutorial, and sandbox mode is less like sandbox and more like game over. Please fix both tutorial and sandbox.

We would utilise Metal to add better, more fluid animation to all missions, not the antiquated stills used currently. Addition of fully rendered 3D models of all rockets, satellites, and spacecraft would be really educational. Maybe even 3D interior models too. Using the 3D models during mission sequences would improve the realism. The addition of customisable missions would be welcome as well.

Very fun game, we like how you race against the computer. We really hope the developers think about updating this and putting in like a race to build a moon base or even Mars and beyond! Lots of update potential to expand the game and keep your customer base playing! Would even buy expansions as an In game app purchase this is so addicting and fun to play!

When we were a kid our favourite game was Buzz Aldrin’s race into space. This game is just as wonderful, it’s a different take however it still involves those nail biting moments hoping your mission is a success. Lovely artwork, great use of animated stills. Five stars!

For an armchair general or manager, a truly fun game in the era when turn based strategy has all but disappeared. The game requires management of funding, personnel, time, and (most challenging) risk. For a space fan or a management program nerd, a real treat. That said, we do have 2 criticisms. 1) The game could use a little more animation (the vintage space race audio is cool and all, but this is the 21st century). 2) The game simulates the challenges of many real (and proposed) space missions. The game could easily be adapted (or expanded) to include the Skylab program, Apollo-Soyuz, or the early Space Shuttle missions (and the related challenges of those programs) that fall in the timeframe of the game.

There really should be more modern missions the to attempt but first stability needs to be improved. The game is crippled by freezes, crashes and game-ending glitched buttons.

Game says we completed x-15, and we hadn’t. Can’t get past test flight of x-15. Preflight locks up… Love Apollo program. Excited for the concept. Buzz shouldn’t have put his name to it…

We read reviews about this locking up, but we hoped after the update it would be better. It locks up during the tutorial at the part to select the X15 project. We think we’re done buying games this expensive, too much of a gamble, even though we would rather pay once and have no IAP. We’re just tired of bugs, patches that make more bugs, then the excuses. IPad Air 2 using iOS 8.

We can’t put this game down. Great mix of strategy and chance. Can’t wait for more missions!

The latest update fixed all of our problems! Played through last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for the quick and responsive support!

There needs to be more educational sim games like this! The only problem we’ve found is the game freezes sometimes when closing programs. Save often!

It’s a great game and we’ve only encountered one bug, if it is a bug. One of our engineers had a medical problem but never returned, then we noticed we could assign her to work on the rocket and when we did she came back. The game is very fun and interesting.

Great game, especially if you are 40-something like us and used to play BARIS on your 386 computer back in the early 90s. It is a true "manager" game and gets just enough into the details to satisfy. Can’t wait for the ISS and Mars missions!!

The desktop version of this game is awesome. They just released an update that is supposed to fix the bugs on the iPad Airs and Minis. We’re playing it this weekend but we feel comfortable raising our review to 4 stars until. Our expectation is this is a solid 4.5 star game while the desktop is a 5. Our only qualm is that the sliders on the training screen are tough to move with any precision. We would rather tap and say train this person to the number we enter. It’s a minor thing. If you are older, you may find the desktop version easier to play as a mouse is very precise. We will try with a stylus and see if we it makes the iPad better. Price is better on the iPad. The other version is $19.99 on sale. Either is great. The game is fun. Try it!

Love the idea and the play but still extremely buggy. Latest patch fixed a number of crashes but still routinely find errors that prevent clean game play like can’t close programs.

We’ve had this app for three days now. This would be a five star review except the game routinely stops recognizing button presses. Buttons will flash acknowledging a press, but then nothing will happen. At that point you can’t save your progress and you’re forced to completely close out of the program. Now we can’t even load a game because it won’t recognize button presses on the load screen. We can press anywhere else and it works, but it won’t allow us to load a game. At this point we’re considering this a waste of money and will not recommend this app to anyone. Refunds should be available.

This game is a great idea! Its an updated version of Buzz Aldrins Race into Space (BARIS) from the early Windows years. We played that game for 100s and 100s of hours. Visually it is very good, but it crashes, repeatedly. We expect to find a few bugs in a $0.99 app, but not one that cost $9.99. This game will be awesome for any space fan, once they fix all of the major bugs. Please update it soon!

More manned missions Mars also add space shuttle and space station along with more rockets and the rocket other wise great game.

Have a couple hours in with an iPad 2. Works perfectly. Not one crash! Nice to have a game without violence. Lots of historical information. Five stars for us.

We loved this game, at least until we glitched out and lost our progress, which we had almost everything unlocked. Let them fix the bugs before buying.

Scientists are bugged. Keeps showing assigned scientists as available. Our one available scientist can’t be assigned. Tutorial is very buggy Font size and theme makes text hard to read. IPad Mini Retina 128GB.

This seems like it could be a sweet turn based manager game. That being said there are way too many bugs for it to be enjoyed properly right now. We can’t get through 8 turns without some game stoppage bug.

Tutorial buggy and unforgiving. Please fix. The sandbox mode is more like finding your way in the desert. Potential huge, but not close.
