More games like this one please. Dont forget 2D actions games and Castlevania. This game Rocks.

This game is really fun, has great gameplay and feels really solid. The negative reviews are from mindless cavemen who cant play a game with more than two control options.

GoS is extremely well written. They obviously did their research, and made all of the different games fit together seamlessly. The dialogue is also rich and interesting. There are no weird translation issues or typos, and one of our favorite parts is being able to collect all the music tracks from each of the games. Its well balanced too. Its just challenging enough to make you excited to to replay the levels to meet all the challenges, but not so hard you just rage quit. The controls can be a little tricky but thats just an artifact of playing on a device with no physical buttons. Well done!

If we could only pick one phone games this would be it. This game is always fun especially with controller. There arent many good games that have controller support and this game has been given so much love since the last time we’ve played with many new chapters added with new weapons and gear to collect.

We remember a few years ago when Apple sent out a survey asking about Arcade. We said we wanted more in-depth games, and our wife wanted more casual, and we thought at the time they were trying to mix them both too much. Our wife has a lot of arcade games she regularly plays, and we’ve found our more complex, grindy f2p-style game we actually want, but dont have to spend IAP for. Plus its Castlevania! The downsides we see from some people are upsides for us. We enjoy f2p models with a cheat mode turned on! Great game, wish the rating was higher so they were encouraged to make more, but we hope even something like this helps. Great job Konami for making it and Apple for buying it outright!

The game is great when it comes to character controls and graphics. We are having a problem with a serious Special Mission glitch. The game will not go pass Special Mission 3 Breakdown even though we have gotten the exact Breakdown and more. It seems like they didnt run the tests all the way through for Apple TV. We have deleted the game and downloaded it again but still the same problem exist.

We are sure Castlevania fans everywhere are grateful for yet another release of this long running franchise. For some, its a new experience and for others it brings back a lot of memories. All the characters have their own decorated storylines. They all have their different fighting styles and specialize in different types of attacks. This is all well, and good as it gives each person a chance to adapt their own playing style and challenge themselves to learn new ones. We know the game at one point had app purchases but when it migrated into Apple Arcade, all of those were turned off and now we can earn, various benefits, weapons, artifacts, and pieces of armor to put a beat down on evil. All good and anyone playing this game would be happy to do so. We are also grateful for all the bug fixes and performance updates and the wonderful many new features that keep getting added to the game itself. Konami is a long running company with many wonderful games, collaborations, and titles to its name. We can only hope that the reviews that are being written are actually read by the staff and such changes would be considered. Here is our hope, our request, and our issue all wrapped up into one. We understand there are certain awards that can be won if you meet certain conditions, for example, earning different types of coins and various forms of currency in the shops. We would kindly ask that the prices to be lowered, especially for items that do not have any attack or defense benefits, and are just for looks like the skins. Asking 500,000 coins of anything is an extremely high amount of grinding that needs to be done, for the sake of being considerate of peoples time and making things attainable to those that are not the most diehard of fans we believe it is only fair to ask for some of those prices, all across-the-board to be lowered to make them more attainable. We believe in the end, it will increase replay value and encourage people to spend time in some of those additional features rather than avoiding it, and just sticking to the story. If the difficulty in the game continues to increase, but the opportunities to decorate and strengthen our characters are hindered by very high amounts required to purchase them, then we fear that it will discourage people to continue. Now we know that you can summon things, and for the most part you can come across some nice four-star, and even five star items as we have but sooner or later at one point we feel the scales tip over and we are just asking for not the game to be nerfed or made more easy but just lower some of those prices please. Along with that hopefully we can also create a more inclusive community by initiating some type of player, reaction, and communication with one another, by sharing our achievements, or giving items to one another by trading, but we understand that is a monumental task which would require an exorbitant amount of money and server space but all in all in the end, even if the online functionality is limited, we can all be happy to start dawning some of these outfits and wonderful items from different areas and timelines. We dont write reviews very often but in the past years, we have been moved to do so on a few occasions and this is definitely one of them. Thank you all for your hard work and your attention to detail.

Continually crashed at stage 1-2 right after the grim reaper. Figured out we needed to drop screen quality down in settings then it worked. Good game overall but we can see the beginnings of the pay to play purchases which is a bit of a downer since we are already paying for Arcade.

The movements, main attack and special attacks are based on gestures and a few actions like jumping and sliding are done with buttons. We can appreciate the graphics and the story but this way of doing controls is totally counter-intuitive :/

While this game is fun it doesnt feel like a Castlevania game. The levels feel poorly designed, in comparison to previous Castlevania games such as Harmony of Despair and Symphony of the Night. Additionally the three dimensional element to the characters is a little strange On a positive note the new menu screen is pretty cool.

We did buy remote control for the whole arcade since we do subscribe during off school season or vacation. Doing touchscreen as remote is not our forte- lag issue when doing touchscreen mode. The game is more responsive (sadly) when one has an Apple TV device; it handles the game nicely vs tablet or mobile device. We played this for a while and its great for few several months then it just gets boring and blah the longer you continue playing, because it just becomes repetitive. Storyline is great but doing same task should you get only 1 or 2 star or need to level up as the mission gets challenging further-one can easily get burnt out.

It dont work with nintendo switch controller. U_u.

We remember when Konami made games that were Konami hard back in the 1980s. The thing is, there was always a way to win based on skill, or maybe some hints from Nintendo Power (or that up, up, down down code). Here, there is no way to win except grinding. By the time you get to the 6th (or 7th if youre good) grimoire, youre at a point where your fully leveled 5* equipment (that took hours to get) just isnt good enough unless you limit break it. That requires getting a second copy of the item (or 100 parchments good luck with that) and paying a big ton of gold. And you have to do it again and again. Youre looking at a big chunk of your life spent just to win this game. In the end, its just not worth it. So we have given up. Im not opposed to the gacha mechanic, and Im not opposed to the concept of play to win, but it has to be reasonable or else its just not fun. And thats a shame, because there is a lot of production value and character and heart put in this game. If only it were actually playable.

Basically, while there isn’t any more IAPs anymore, there’s still a heavy grind that is reminscent of most gacha games. Our biggest issue is that for gaining power you basically have to grind the Halloween event, which is not fun. There are the Trial Quills of course, but they’re limited and there isn’t an easy way of obtaining them. We completed seven of the Grimoires, after that, we didn’t see the point in continuing. Most of the remaining monsters are just reskins, and the remaining bosses didn’t seem interesting to us.

We were really excited to try this but everything is set up like some p2w mobile game. Theres a place where you can summon items with currency, reasons to grind stages, etc. Stages themselves are rather short. We gave up half-way through the second stage when we realized how it played.

We’re on an M1 mac Mini and the performance and look of the game is very nice. We’ve tried a bit with our keyboard but wanted to use our controller, Nimbus Steel, which works well for almost any game we try but for this game it doesn’t. Any chance that is going to be addressed?

No way we can recommend picking up this game. Mechanics are implemented passably but not as good as a real Castlevania game. There’s about 4 different currencies going so that’s how you know it’s a ported F2P pay to win. Bizarrely stuttery on an SE 2020. Controller support is there and essential to do anything interesting, but also is completely half baked next to console releases. For example, you can’t tap a direction to face that way, you will always take a step.

Why is the jump so far over? This phone is already heavy and sharp enough. No need for awkward controls too.

We have tried multiple times to use our PS5 controller that we have paired with our Mac mini and it doesn’t work.

Its not about exploring and grinding monsters for new equipment/gear/powers. Its a generic cash farm with a Castlevania skin. We will keep playing because we love Castlevania ever since we were a child. Maybe it gets better.

Lots of mechanism from garbage p2w gatcha games which make people sick. Should modify all those stupid mechanisms before going to Apple Arcade.

The touch controls are terrible. The game was clearly built as a free-to-play game that then had the payable parts removed. That leaves the game mechanics tedious and broken.

We encountered a game-breaking glitch in this app that rendered our main save file unplayable. After some back-and-forth with support, it became clear they either could not or would not fix it. Looks like maintenance patches are already off the table for this game. Play at your own risk!!!

Our games is broken. Anytime in the later portion of the game when we use our alter art, our character will only deal 1 damage point for every hit, this includes using specials too. Everything we do only does 1 damage point. Too broken to even finish the game.

Edit: the latest updates have heaped more trash on top of an already convoluted game. They need to streamline features, not add entirely new ones. Some of the resource balance was also altered but they went too far: all our characters rapidly boosted to level 99 after that change and we have 5 million gold with nothing we would ever spend it on. Meanwhile, the winter season currency is way too hard (tedious) to earn as are the soul fragment currency and souls in general. Original: As a longtime Metroidvania fan, we had high hopes for this one. But the design features short, easily completed levels and that isnt a good thing. Areas are still unlocked to allow progress which might seem in line with the origin games but its too literal – we dont acquire new abilities that open up entire new areas, we just need to complete certain requirements to open up a different level on the map. Then there are time limits. All of these things and more make the sense of exploration not really a thing. On top of that, the level design is frequently ridiculous and annoying. Especially since the touch controls are not very natural feeling or are littered with brutal traps. Lastly, the autoattack mode makes the game more playable but it isnt without its frustrations. All sorts of bad move combos can easily occur and move you in ways you couldnt anticipate, including moving you into deadly traps. In general, it feels like the game design isnt for you to have fun and instead to trainwreck all your best intentions and punish you for tiny mistakes. There is still the chance to level up all your characters and weapons to eventually compensate for how brutal the game can be but it requires endless grinding and is honestly too much work.

This game is completely free to play and its amazing. If youre a fan of the Castlevania series or any side scroller then you should give this game a try. The new updates give this game a lot of replay value and the story is pretty good. Looking forward to more in the castlevania series in the future!

Overall we seem to be enjoying it. Its a long grind, and some characters perform best with a controller over the touch screen, but it hasnt really bothered us that much. (Charlotte needs a controller to be at her best, on touch it is difficult to aim high and shoot or even run and power up then jump and shoot, on the controller it is easy) Also on touch we never use the dash attacks or dodge because it doesnt trigger all the time. On the controller it is just another button so triggers all the time. Another plus is that we can use it offline with barely any noticeable delay once the game is loaded. So the hour train to and from work can be fun. Towards the last couple chapters the difficulty levels jump so fast its hard to keep up. Rare Weapon pulls seem to be better with the last update, and the boost in simple searches will help too, so thats fine. Im curious how the restart is after beating the game, but we know itll take a bit to get there. Thanks for a fun game!

With a couple of tweaks this game could be amazing. Drop rates are wonky for a non-pay to win port. We like the challenge having to play levels without taking damage but the later weapons drop rates are to low in the levels to make it worth the time to perfect the runs. Also getting S rank on enhance trials gives you less rewards than getting A rank. Why?

The game is fun to play but it will take you a lot of time to collect the weapons. The 5 stars equipments are very hard to get. The drop rate is VERY LOW even for summons and map clearing. Dont play if you dont have time to waste.

Best Castlevania story yet with a modern game feel. This game is the only reason we subscribe to Apple Arcade and it is absolutely worth it. Love Chapter 7 so far!

We really like this game, but we wish that to upgrade weapons and armor you dont have to grind so much. Game would be so much better if they just triple the drop rate on everything. As it is it takes significant time to get good stuff.

This game takes us back to Xbox 360 days, playing that Castlevania multiplayer game for countless hours. So much fun, with a new system for upgrading that aligns with many mobile titles. A welcome adaptation, imo. Plus you can move the on screen attack and jump buttons where you want, to personalize your gameplay experience. Good stuff.

First of all, this is a great game to start with since this is not free-to-play (pay-to-win) anymore (Apple Arcade). The backgrounds, animations, even sounds bring us back old memories of Castlevania Symphony of the Night. However, there are a few things that need improvements. 1. Movement touch control is hard and buggy, there should an option to fix the position of the joystick rather than tapping anywhere (on the left side). When jumping or using skills, the movement stops and you have to swipe to move the character again (especially Charlotte when flying and shooting). 2. Gem summon is quite useless, we spent about 100,000 gems only to get one 5-stars weapon, wow. Precious Gem summon is useless too, there are limited numbers of Precious Gems you can get and drop rate is s*t too. Another annoying mission is that you have to login 400 days to achieve it. We mean the developers could just increase rare drop rate a little bit and remove those login requirement missions since its not F2P anymore. 3. Difficulties that limit the ability to use skills and insane mana consumption is killing the fun of this game, because most of the time, you would want to set these difficulties to get better parchments and drop rate, thats why all you can do is jumping around and use basic attacks. It would be better to give enemies more health and a new skill as a difficulty rather than limiting the ability to use skills. 4. Game freezes sometimes at random loading screens. PS: right now, we can only play with a controller since they dynamic touch joystick is killing us.

This game is fun, however, when its loading levels it tends to crash a lot. Im playing it on an iPhone 12 Pro Max with the latest OS. The controls are also quirky. Sometimes they dont even respond. The characters are slow and there is a delay to start moving again after completing an action; would like if they didnt have the delay. The enemy leveling to character level/power isnt very good either. We find the enemies are much stronger at lower levels than they should be in trials and challenges. XP gain is incredibly low so leveling is taking a while. Could easily get bored of this game quick.

It’s a good game.. With a few flaws. When canceling dispatches, why does it consume the run? Why are we unable to earn more or increase the number of simple searches? We have noticed that the trials for enhance gems doesn’t correctly issue them. For example: Play the hardest tier and kill 3/4 of the mobs an earn a top tier gem. However clear the level perfectly and earn a lesser purple gem instead of a stronger red one. Things like this an more are whats wrong here. Balancing needs to occur. The little girl is virtually useless to play as and cannot jump high enough in certain situations. So many times the screen control system has us attacking or doing something in the reverse direction than what we intended or activating our upper ability when we don’t intend to use it. Other times when we want to use an ability the input it entirely ignored or we are outright killed for failing to do or attack properly. Can we get a dev response?

We love the gameplay and with our razer Kishi it makes it even more enjoyable! We love the gacha mechanics as its completely free and can do several summons a day. The parchment system and all of the ways you can get items makes it a lot of fun. However, one thing is bothering us quite a lot. That is, record fragments. We cant think of any possible reason why you would limit upgrading your abilities to a single branch… We just accidentally spent 2 fragments on a skill we dont use and now Im prevented from getting a fully upgraded skill that we actually want. Am we missing something here? Barely got our Shanoa to level 40 and that wouldve given the exact amount of fragments total for one complete skill. Please fix this or allow the shop to sell the fragments once a week or something. Other than that, great game.

We have been playing this for a few week’s and it’s good but it comes to a complete stop once we reached level 40/41. We have all gold weapons maxed out, all armor maxed out with 1 being gold and the rest purple but everything maxed out except the inchant, but very close 9 out of 10 and we’re still 10,000 short to complete the next levels….. Also it does have some bug issue’s…. We tried playing this on our Apple Tv but it was unplayable with framew rate’s getting into the single digit’s so we had to switch to our Mac Mini.

Would be decent if the game didnt have such a horrible gacha and farming system. Plus unresponsive buttons causing force closes that happen pretty often also doesnt help. But if you love grinding for items, this game is for you!

Only problem is it freezes or stop working about every 5 mins.

It was fun for a while. While its easy to complete the grimoires, it is impossible to get most of the 5 star weapons and armor. We’ve played some levels for hours with all difficulty factors ticked off and we still didnt come close to getting the level 5 weapon for that level. Yes its easy to gems, but again they dont get you very far. 500k gems should get you more than 0-1 high level weapons. Until they fix this, the game will continue having a freemium feel, which is the reason Id rate this so lowly.

We did the newest update and all of our winter weapons and shield we lost all of them thats why we only give one star. They need to fix that in this new update.

Been playing the game for a while. Not that far in but we just been doing a bunch of daily logins. For the past 3 to 4 months just been doing the summons never getting a five star. Always getting the same items over and over and over again. Somethings off. Until we get a five star item Im not playing the game. Or until we get a five star item Im not gonna changeThis review to a five star.

The tvOS Version does not support the HORIPAD controller that we bought at the Apple Store. It supports basic functions, but cannot access settings, nor pause the game. We also cannot turn off the function for auto attack. Is there an update in the works for this?

There is an error when you try to do the mission dont let HP drop below 75%. When you switch to alter arts, it automatically makes you fail the mission. When you fail the mission and you select the new option play again it wouldnt reset the stats of the mission and it would fail regardless of if you achieved the mission the second try.

Im fairly new to the Castlevania series in general, but we love playing the game so much. We are very impressed with what they managed to do to a game that used to be a Gacha and improved on it in several ways. This especially rings true with the recent update for the Holidays! It gives us hope that therell be somewhat consistent content updates in the future which makes it worth it to keep subscribing to Apple Arcade.

This is the type of game one would expect to see on Arcade. It is a ‘Full’ game, plenty to do and upgrade, and a lot of what you should expect from castlevania. That said, you need a controller to play this. If you are rating this poorly based on controls, do yourself a favor and hook up your PS controller. The other negative is the lack of ‘Help’. This is some kind of port over to mac and it really does not tell you much in terms of how to play or what to do. Overall we are having a great time playing this classic.

The only reason Im giving it 4 stars is because the noise doesnt work on our phone. Did everything to turn it up. Settings etc anyone else dealing with this?
