Constantinople Board Game – Strategy Game Review
![]()
Constantinople Board Game is a Strategy/Board game from Marian Gablovsky, first launched in 14th March 2017.
It’s rated 4+ and currently has 17+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes Constantinople Board Game Stand Out
Constantinople is a solitaire historical wargame covering the millennium-long history of the Byzantine empire, from the foundation of Constantinople in AD330 until its fall in AD1453. You will use military might as well as diplomacy and outright bribery to keep the many opposing forces at bay for as long as possible. Can you outlive the historic Byzantine empire, or will your efforts be relegated to an obscure footnote in the history books?
Constantinople is not a highly detailed, historically accurate simulation of the history of the Byzantine Empire, but is historically based and gives a sense of the real situation of the Byzantine Empire throughout its existence, and provides some insights into the history surrounding Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire.
App is optimized for iPhone but playable on iPad (just bigger).

Community Insight:
This is a fantastic solo strategy game. Its challenging without being frustrating, and the user interface and design are perfect. Its easy to learn but you really have to balance your decisions. So well done. We like that its minimalistic, like playing with a deck of cards. No IAP, just one low premium price. No ads. Thank you developer for making this game! Its one of the best card games Ive found in the App Store and it will stay on our phone. We happily support good independent developers like this.
We wish there was even a little bit more to it visually, and it would be nice if the events cards showed the full event information by default, but this is a great little game for the money.
The game crashes at turn 30 under historical mode, preventing the player to beat it, really bad. Later, we found that when you click the eye to see the next card in deck in historical mode, the game crashes, because there is no card in deck, dont click the eye at turn 30.
This game is fantastic! We wish more solitaire board games would be converted like this one! We're looking at you Friday! As for people complaining of bugs, we suspect they misunderstand what's supposed to happen in the game. We have encountered ZERO bugs. The bug mentioned above is probably just the user thinking the furthest back enemy should be eliminated, but it actually means an enemy in the last square on the board. Also, if two enemies are tied in the last position that cancels them out too. Anyway, we love this game.
We have played a number of the states of siege boardgames. This is a fun one. We like the walls aspect, giving you a final chance to defend the City. But as others have said, the chart with the armies moving up and down is boring and disappointing! We really want the map from the boardgame, or any map…something more interesting than a boring chart.
This is the first time we've ever played a solo war game. It is very easy to learn, yet engaging. Great if you only have a few minutes to spare. Would love to see an update that allows our podcasts to continue to play when we use the app.
We're very disappointed. The the historical map from the board game has been replaced here by a dull, generic flow chart of sorts.
We originally rated this game a 5 but have lowered it to a 3 due to bugs. Sometimes events do not trigger, making the game unwinnable. For example, you can sometimes kill off an enemy is the furthest position by spending a resource. This event only triggers half the time; other times it just goes on to the next turn without letting you do the event even if you have the resources. Please fix as the game itself is terrific.
