A Glimpse into Cryptograms – Word Puzzles for Brain Training
A cryptogram, sometimes called cryptoquip, is a word puzzle based on a phrase or quote that has been encrypted by letter substitution. For example, the word ‘FUN’ might be encrypted as ‘GHK.’ By looking at the patterns in the decrypted text, the length of the words, and other context clues – you’ll slowly decode the phrase or quote until it’s back to its original text. I realize this paragraph you just read might sound dull – but believe me, these puzzles are super fun and addicting!
While often found in the world of pencil and paper puzzles – this app gives a easy, clean way to solve these word puzzles without killing any trees. You can choose between the traditional layout (encrypted text appears below your decrypted text). Or you can switch to the ‘condensed’ layout I’ve invented just for this app – where you can see the encrypted and decrypted text all at once (it sounds confusing, but I think you’ll end up really liking it).
With the recent popularity of puzzles like Sudoku or KenKen, it’s easy to forget that there are some really great word puzzles to keep your mind sharp. Cryptograms will push your brain to think in different ways, and really make you work through your whole vocabulary trying when trying to come up with an answer.
The app comes with a starter pack of 20 puzzles for you to try out and see if cryptogams are your thing. If they are, there are several more packs of puzzles available through the app – and I’m always working on more I’ll be adding in on a regularly basis.

We wish Ross would make 100 game apps! His are our favorite by far. Simple to play, challenging to do, and a lot of fun! We stumbled upon Cryptograms after finishing his Logic Puzzles (challenging and VERY humorous) and we don’t want them to end!

This is totally addictive and fun- it makes us feel smart when we can get one done with only one of the hints but we go through the packs so fast that we still remember the answers when we go back to replay them- they need more puzzle packs!!!

We love this app! If you love cryptograms you will love it too. The only complaint is we wish they had more free ones or a way to earn free games rather than buying them after you play all the free ones.

We are good at solving cryptograms, but some of these were a challenge. We feel like we are doing something to stimulate our brain. We like that we can take as little or as much time as we want to solve them. Highly recommend the app.
This app is great. The puzzles are challenging, and we feel like we’re actually using our brain. Please come out with more puzzle packs please! We bought the full version and we NEVER buy full versions, so yea, this app is pretty fantastic. Also, why on earth would someone want to know how many of each letter is in the puzzle??? We really enjoy this game. It has a good variety of puzzle categories and they are just challenging enough to keep us interested.
Just like the ones in our local paper. We absolutely love doing those but these are so much easier because you dont have to erase so much!!

We searched the App Store for a cryptogram program and chose this one. It is just what we wanted with lots of categories and interesting quotes. Plus it is easy to use.
Very pleased with this App. Suggestion for your next update: show the letters not used yet at the far right, one or two columns of small letters will work.

We love cryptograms but we hadnt done them for some time. Then we ran across a pack of printed cryptograms that we had printed out a long time ago to take with us when we fly. This was before the popularity of iPhones. We thought, we bet theres an app for that. And we found your game. After we went through the free puzzles, we bought the app at a very reasonable price. Im continuing to enjoy it very much. And we dont have to carry around loads of printed ones!

Enough hints to make it easy if need be, but don’t use the hints and it’s very challenging. Fun and easy to spend slot of time with.
We love Cryptoquotes but wasn’t able to find a good app until this one. We bought the full version – which is rare for us to do. We’ve finished them all and reloaded it to start again. Thankfully there are enough puzzles that we don’t remember all of them and they still challenge us. Great app! Please add more packs .
