DESCRIPTION

You wake up in pitch blackness. You have no idea who you are, where you are or how you got here – it’s up to you to figure it out!

For horror game fans seeking out that ultimate fix, ‘Dark Fear’ delivers an immersive, frightening experience wrapped in a cinematic soundtrack and a dark, twisted storyline written by an ex-film industry professional. The game can only described as blend between RPG and adventure with a 2D graphical style similar to the classic PC games from the 1980s (think Myst meets Kings Quest). Its simplistic approach allows even the most casual gamers to gently unfold and enjoy its many complex layers of game mechanics.

Explore a diverse landscape filled with forests, mountains, lakes and deserts. Make allies in the local village, upgrade your weapon and armor, go hunting/fishing and fight your way to the truth by slaying your foes, solving puzzles and helping people with their problems.

FEATURES

  • A combination of both adventure and RPG game mechanics
  • Classic 1980’s PC style visuals
  • A cinematic Hollywood-style soundtrack composed by film industry professionals
  • A deep and engaging storyline

Find out what gamers are saying about Dark Fear:

What we’ve been searching for!! C64ish horror adventurers with slight RPG elements. So good. Really wish there were more games like this for iOS!

Our wife and we stayed up late last night playing this game. Definitely the most underrated app on the App Store. We hope the developers get the recognition they deserve for this throwback classic.

Where has this game been hiding, and WHY isn’t it among Apple’s best of the best?!? Despite the retro graphics, the game has exceptional gameplay, story, and soundtrack, and is even creepier than a lot of higher end games out there. Well worth the money you’d otherwise spend on a cheeseburger, and way more satisfying! Would love to see a sequel.

This game is incredible. We read the reviews and wondered why they were praising this relatively unknown game so much. Figured it was worth a try and we were not disappointed! The soundtrack is gorgeous, there are legitimate jump scares and creepy characters/landscapes. The puzzles are relatively easy but the storyline keeps you interested and engaged. We can not recommend this game more highly if you love adventure games.

If you had ever told us we would find an iOS game scary we would have laughed. Especially with graphics that were cutting edge when we started out gaming. But this game unnerved us and made us jump several times in a way big budget titles never have. And it’s fun. Highly recommended.

Basically a old school adventure game with modern elements. We enjoyed upgrading our armor and weapons, it did get slightly boring grinding for more gold but the game sets u up with plenty of gold from just fights.

This game should be way more popular! We rarely give 5 star reviews, this one definitely deserves it. We think maybe people are put off by the old-style pixelated graphics, but that is a big mistake. Especially if you are looking for a good adventure game that is also quite scary! We were surprised that a pixelated-style graphics game could be scary at all, but it certainly delivers. If the graphics were more realistic, it would’ve probably been too scary for us. It was just right. And we can’t think of a thing to criticize about it, just like another great game, The Room. This game was fun, definitely worth the price, and we hope it gets more attention so this developer will hopefully make more super-enjoyable games. :)

We originally bought this for our desktop, never realizing it was available on the iPad. The desktop was sooo much fun we decided to check and VOILA! We can not play this anywhere with our iPad. Its dark/creepy with a really good story/plot to keep you interested. The gameplay is simple, but still engaging and the graphics are so retro & cool. We’ve paid way more for games that were not 1/2 as good, snatch this one up if you can.

Worth every cent spent on it! Would love to see a sequel….. EXACTLY what we were looking for in a dark adventure/rpg….5 stars easy…… Stop spending money on bad pay to win games ,and spend a few bucks to pick up this hidden gem of a game.

Way too much grinding. The game would be about 5 minutes long if you didnt have to stop and do hunting constantly.

Wow … Had no idea how much we were gonna love this game. Very fun game .. Love the retro feel. If you like horror or rpg games , definitely give this one a try!

This game is amazing! The jump scares are well-timed and don’t bombard you until you crap your pants every time or get used to them, because it can really build the creepy atmosphere. I’d recommend playing in the dark with headphones like the game says at the beginning. The combat is interesting, something we haven’t seen before. Overall this game is pretty great and worth a play for the price it has.

Really Well Made. We Love This Game. Fills Both our Horror And RPG Needs.

As we write this, we are noticing that Dark Fear has only five written reviews in the App Store. This just goes to show how woefully underappreciated and overlooked this game is. It is one of the best mobile games of the adventure genre. Obviously the retro, pixel-heavy gaming revival is nothing new, but Dark Fear harkens back to a specific era of computer adventure that few (if any) modern titles come close to emulating. The puzzles aren’t anything too out of the ordinary, but in the context this great art style, they work very well. At first we were admittedly skeptical about the RPG-style battle/upgrade/equip system, but it turned out to be a great way to break up the monotony that many puzzle adventure games can face. The battles introduced a cool grinding element to stretch out the gameplay and cleanse your palette a bit between tasks. So yeah, tremendously good mobile adventure game. It definitely belongs in the same conversation as The Room, Monument Valley, Lumino City, etc. Now if only we can get sites to review this game and get it the attention it deserves.

This game was addictive! We had to beat it. We were surprised at how much we jumped at certain parts of the game.

We found out about this game via YouTube. We’re so happy we came across it! It’s a mixture of kings quest, meets eye of the beholder meets scary! We freaking love it. This game needs to be better recognized. Such a gem.

Very much enjoyed this. A fun adventure as well as rpg. Our favorite parts were puzzle solving. Figuring out what items get you where, completing rituals, etc… All felt really good. The combat got a bit repetitive, but it was fun. Also, there is a bit of grinding on the hunting/fishing side. Overall, this is a great callback to old school adventures. It feels good to play. And it’s actually pretty scary!

It takes about 3 hours to beat. It does have a few well played spooks. Very easy. Designed for a pre-teen. Worth more like $1 or $1.99 max.

The game cannot be saved, and it doesn’t auto save on our device, which means all progress is lost if you exit the application, even momentarily. Upon opening the app, you have to START THE WHOLE THING OVER AGAIN. This is maddening. Please create a save feature.

If you like retro games, BUY THIS GAME. It’s a mix of King’s Quest and an old school RPG. Great puzzles, cool jump scares. Well worth the money.

We really enjoyed the gameplay and setting and mood.

We’ve played a fair share of horror games on iOS and this is by far the most enjoyable and also the scariest. We find the puzzles to be appropriately challenging for a mobile game as well. Definitely buy this game!

The opening music make our jump out of bed while using our headphones The atmosphere is awesome Been playing for 15 minutes and really like the game If younlike scary game this is for you.

What a fun, campy horror game! We loved the adventure/RPG elements. We could have used a little more challenge on the puzzles, but maybe the ease of them makes the game a little more accessible. Perhaps there could be various difficulties in a later version? We would like to see more at the ending, but that’s how we feel about every game ever. Thanks for a fun game and we can’t wait to see what you make next! :)

This is an amazing game. Very creepy retro-style adventure game with RPG and puzzle elements. We were frightened a solid amount of times but could not get myself to put it down. Excellent experience that gives us faith in the future of iOS gaming.

This game took us roughly 5-6 hours to finish, and not one time was we bored throughout the gameplay! If you love old school RPGs and multiple (unnecessary) heart attacks, this game is for you!!

This game is a love letter to the computer adventure games of the 1990’s. While it uses the aesthetic, it feels modern.

The storyline could be considered transphobic.

We really had a great time playing this – the game play mechanics are a cool mix of point-and-click adventure, light RPG, and dexterity challenges that determine how well you hit your enemies. The hunting and fishing were great too. We liked the story until the end. It’s really too bad that the writer has some kind of weird transphobic hang-up. This game would have been perfect without that. Usually not one for being offended but it was off putting–not is cool horror kinda way but in a mean/hateful kinda way. Otherwise awesome game.

The atmosphere achieved in this game to bring a sense of horror is perfect. In our previous review we complained about bugs. The game works fine now. We erased some stuff from our iPad and the game runs without trouble. We guess it just needed more space. Sorry, our bad. After playing it a bit, it is a nicely streamlined RPG / graphic adventure. Not very difficult in either category. Great game for a quick short horror RPG kick.

This game shouldn’t be as fun as it is, but … It is! Fun mechanic with a little, but not too much, grinding required. Nice old school graphics too. You lose a star because the puzzles were a bit too easy and the game isn’t optimized for the bigger screen of the 6/6s. Definitely worth $3.
