Hear from the Players – Dark Parables: Goldilocks and Fallen Star (Full) Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Dark Parables: Goldilocks and Fallen Star (Full):

Not finished but fun so far. Can do puzzles, hints are helpful. None of those obnoxious ads for other games nor need to buy diamonds! Traditional adventure game, linear progress. The graphics are artistic and original, pleasing. Senior gamer.

Well done, Big Fish/Eipix. Well done. This is a beautiful game with sharp, vibrantly colored graphics. There is an interactive map you can jump to places, HOP’s here and there but not too many, other creative puzzles that increase in difficulty, an overall scene hidden object throughout the game, and changing objects that when collected lead you to interesting stories of the history of various parables. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute playing this. Even though our personal taste is to have varying puzzles within HOP’s, we really liked the fact that the objects were as physical items instead of words. We are buying more of these Dark Parables; this was fantastic.

Love the graphics. Nice story line. More like these please.

Goldilocks is our favorite game from Dark Parables so far. The storyline is interesting and graphics is beautiful! It provides a very immersive experience in a fantasy like game environment.

Dark Parables our favorite series is back! Each twisted take on a fairy tale plays as a stand alone but each is rich in color, flavor and plot twists! Unique puzzles, map, collect well hidden snowflakes in every scene and keep your eyes open for morphing parable tokens for more stories! Verdict: play!

Each one just keeps getting better and better!!

Love this series. Beautiful graphics, intriguing storylines, twisted fairy tales, easy to play yet challenging. Discovered it maybe a month ago and have just devoured it! Very anxious for them to come out with more!

All of the Dark Parable games are great. This one is no exception. There’s adequate game play. Nice balance of challenge without frustration. Gorgeous scenes. Well rounded story. Bonus chapter was great. Thank you for the game.

Good visuals, fun experience, but glad we didn’t eaten by the unicorn and bear.

No glitches, always love the bonus chapter!

A nice long game. No glitches. Hard to see collectable snowflakes on iPhone.

Got lost in the game for hours.

We totally enjoyed gameplay as we have not in quite awhile. Beautiful scenes… No glitches, nice long game + bonus chapter… Collectable snowflakes in every scene plus morphing parable collection in random scenes that add to the background story. Great transport map that indicates tasks. We loved the un-fairytalelike fairy tale storyline. Although we don’t get the modern detective with the tape recorder.. It kinda clashes with the rest of the ambiance of the game, but whatever… We gotta say we enjoyed the variety of puzzles! From simple to a bit of a challenge, they were varied and interesting. The hops were okay, but would love to see an option to play an alternative game.. It does break up the same ol hop after hop monotony somewhat. Still we give 5 stars just for the enjoyment of playing.. Thank you! We’re looking forward to the next.

Great game no glitches, we found the fifth totem unlike another reviewer. Just hit the hint button and you will find it. Lots of back and forth trying to remember where things go. There is a map that lets you know where to go also on the easy mode. Great video scenes. Probably an eight hour game – wow! As with most of these, there is lots of moon and sun goddess stuff. Magical stuff. Could easily redo the whole game as it was epic. So many twists and turns. We were thankful for the bonus chapter as the story wasn’t over with the main story. Good games. Some hunt for item stuff. Lots of putting symbols into things and collecting other symbols. Julian the Apostate would love this game also (I happen to be studying him and guess what, back then the sun goddess did have real power although Christianity took over soon after his reign in Rome and the old Roman gods became myths.

Love these games, no pressure to get done, no adds constantly popping up. No limited times, can play over and over. Don’t mind buying the game just to have some quite time.

Great story, character interactions, bonus game was cool too. Puzzles, graphics, all of it in a word-spectacular!

Not one issue with the game!! Became addicted very quickly lol.

We love all the Dark Parable games! Keep them coming as they are challenging, love the graphics, and storyline.

We really enjoyed this game. It was engrossing and we finished the game in record time. We cannot wait till the next one comes out. We were disappointed in the bonus content.

Very interesting ! Keeps you wanting to play !

We know its been years but yall need to make more games! They are always AWESOME.

We love Dark Parables! It’s far too long between games though! More please!

The puzzles were a bit trickier then prior parables we’ve enjoyed but still awesome… Very awesome!

This one we really light. Thanks.

We like to play games when we’re waiting on our kids during their lessons. This is a great game!

The story is great, the puzzles are definitely challenging, and Big Fish Games (BFG) makes one of the best Hidden Object games around! (Right up there with Artifex Mundi)–what makes BFG SLIGHTLY better in our eyes is that the cinematic scenes are much better than AM. But that’s just us :P our ONLY wish is that they could make this game available for our laptop (MacBook Pro/OS X and up). We’re playing this and Legends 2 on our iPhone 6, and everything is squished so the graphics aren’t the best :/. I’d be even MORE satisfied with these games if you could make them available on computers. Please and thank you! We’re still a big fan though!

Heads-up: Artifex Mundi just released Lost Grimoires; on sale for limited time at $2.99 with free trial! After finishing this game, bumping our review from 3.5 stars to 4 stars. Interesting mix of Goldilocks and King Midas story – it kept our interest and we thought Eipix did a decent job of keeping with the same look and feel of the Blue Tea original games (although puzzles are easier and thankfully they provide a transportable map which shows active areas, unlike Blue Tea). Collectible snowflakes in each scene (my only complaint is that some were hidden in extremely dark areas of the scene). Morphing parable tale icons to find in some (not all) of the scenes. No custom mode of play unfortunately (typical Eipix). Exiting to the strategy guide doesn’t make you restart the game. No glitches and we didn’t notice any rats/mice. Enjoy! Upcoming Games from Big Fish Games: Ominous Objects: Trail of Time (3.5 stars, Daily Magic, Dec ’15) Midnight Calling: Jeronimo (4.1 stars, Elephant Games, Jun. ’16) Secrets of the Dark: Flower of Shadow (2.9 stars, Orneon, July ’14) Secret Order: Buried Kingdom (4.4 stars, Sunward Games, May ’16) Hidden Expedition: Fountain of Youth (4.3 stars, Eipix, Jan. ’16) Sea of Lies: Beneath the Surface (3.6 stars, Eipix, Feb. ’16)

Enjoyed the mini-puzzles and the story line.

If you like really challenging minigames, you may enjoy this more than we did. Also the placement of the strategy guide button just above the inventory bar was a bad idea since we kept accidentally opening the guide. Beautiful, detailed scenery and music though. UPDATE: glitch in bonus game caused a crash and all progress was lost including main game progress.

Given the quality of BF games lately, we guess all we really need to comment on is whether the game plays through without glitches or fatal flaws. This one plays well, no issues, good length, decent story.. Although it’s more like Midas than Goldilocks. Thanks!

Thanx for the heads-up, Izzyoc! Looks like this might be fun. We also thank KimTwilght as well for mentioning Lost Grimoires; it was a fun little gem of a game. We have not made any further headway with BigFish over the Puppet Show nightmare, and ERS doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to issue an update. Any ideas, DTE!? Especially Dracyy; you helped us all to play Orb of Purity before those dummies updated it! On to the game. We are not a huge fan of this series, and the last couple of them were awful. This one, however was definitely more like the older Parables by Blue Tea, with the EIPIX advantage of the teleport map. You cannot customize your settings but there are 3 levels of difficulty. The graphics were magnificent, and when you applied inventory and magical occurrences transmogrified, it was exciting. The game was a decent length with the bonus adventure. At each location you collect a cleverly-hidden snowflake, and also at certain locations you must also collect a morphing object, which then adds to your Parables. Unfortunately there is no journal, as EIPIX doesn’t seem to EVER do them, although we keep asking them! Also you can tell that the developer’s first language is not English, but it is still very understandable. At least objectives were regularly updated. Inventory was labeled and there were complex items to assemble. There was an excellent teleport map (marked if so chosen) to transport you. The HO scenes had no variation at all; they are all fragmented. However it is interesting to watch an item meld from 3 separate entities into one! We didn’t really care for the puzzles and mini-games; they were not original and consisted of boring rotational stuff. Come on EIPIX! Give us something else for a change. We enjoyed the storyline and watching the magic occur! The game flowed well and ran smoothly. We are deducting a star for lack of a cohesive journal, no variety in the HO scenes, the boring puzzles and for not giving us incredible wallpapers. At least we are only deducting one star! And of course you score points for not inflicting RATS on us! BigFish, we are not done with you! When will ERS update/fix Puppet Show? Enough is enough! Lynxie sends lots of to the tireless and brilliant Dream Team Elite! You guys are the best! Please keep bugging BigFish to fix Puppet Show! Thanx, everybody! Happy Thanksgiving, reviewers!

Artifex Mundi released "Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom" for a reduced price of $2.99. We left a review; it’s worth the attention. We did not anticipate any enthusiasm about this game since we’re typically not a fan of this series; however, the story rather does retain our attention. You are a fairy detective, who embarks on a spellbinding adventure to help save an imperiled kingdom from menacing adversaries while being confronted with hazardous obstacles that threaten to thwart your every effort; namely, engaging in battle with hostile, mechanical beasts with distinct appearances and structures. The graphics are portrayed with a granulated or breadcrumb-like quality, which illustrates an inferior and deficient craftsmanship. Depending on the scene, some colors are bright and lively; others are shadowy and foreboding. Customized settings are not offered; this hindrance impedes player usability and negatively affects gratification. Consequently, certain key elements are adversely affected, such as the map; in "second" or "hard" mode, you are not gifted with the coveted "action available" indications. As we’ve reluctantly said more than once in the past, you might find yourself vacillating between modes in order to discover a task to perform. Inventory is labeled, interactive, and puzzle-like; items require assembly. The HOS are platitudinous as they are absent of any trace of variation and originality; there are no trend-setting elements to individualize them from more ordinary formats. Fortunately, the puzzles demonstrate more pizzazz; one type is the infamous storybook setting where you interact with objects in sequences to complete the story. The collectibles are well-camouflaged and vary in size and appearance; thankfully, there is an indicator to help determine when you’ve collected one. Transition is fleeting; no lapses or lagging. This latest installment keeps you very busy with a multitude of areas to explore within each location. Even with the elimination of some core components, we still thought that the lengthy playtime, appealing puzzles, and an enthralling story made up for any deficit. Four stars this time.

We don’t remember what the chapter number was, but it was where the detective and Goldilocks were on the ship to the barrier, part way through, the game skipped to next chapter. No way to go back.

Many of the mini games are just too hard to do on our iphone8 plus. Its difficult to maneuver the pieces or else the directions are not easy to understand. Cant zoom in on mini games either. Weird story line.

So this game isn’t bad but we can’t say it was good either. It felt old with its blurry graphics. It ran fine – no glitches. We thought the storyline was interesting but never felt invested in anyway. Our big problem was the puzzles which were an odd array. When it comes to the hidden objects, know that the dark parable series has you find pieces of objects that are then assembled. This type of puzzle can be done effectively as in the new Grimm Legends 3 Dark City. Unfortunately Goldilocks does not deliver. They were tedious at best. When these are done well, you want more gameplay. We felt like it just dragged.

When we added the strings to the musical instrument, the game still showed the instrument as a work in progress, and therefore it could not be used. This made the game unplayable, and you cannot restart the bonus chapter to try to reset the error.

We’ve played some really good BF games, but this is not one of them. First, the hidden object searches are comprised mostly of sections of something else. Not actual objects. We found it sort of boring if not a little tedious. So there’s that… And then the story is… Utterly ridiculous. The expressions on Goldilocks’ face make her look like she’s lying or otherwise malevolent a rather than an ally. So, all in all, meh to this game.

Another game with a glitch! So fed up with paying and then having so many problems with these games! In the scene where you are to place five statues in correct spaces, there are only four statues! So, now no way to finish the game because of this! Anyone know how to contact Big Fish for refund? We’re still waiting for the update on the last game that was un-playable! Verdict…. DON’T BUY THIS GAME!

The Dark Parables games used to be our favorites, but they have been on a steady decline. The graphics are poor, and the game is slow. We deleted it. Just not fun?
