Tired of using music and some random sound fx from your player?

We got you covered!

DMDJ features a next-gen game audio engine that makes unique and never repetitive soundscapes. ecreate a vast amount of environmental scenes and sound fx, which will spice up your sessions and indulge your party into the world you have created for them. Choose the location, day or night setting, add some of the best sound fx around and choose the overall intensity level of the whole environment.

For example, with DMDJ you can create a horror mood by selecting the "Haunted Forest" environment preset, start at "low" intensity, change that to "medium" intensity and "night" while you are guiding your party to a crescendo and when ready, push the "high" intensity and play back a haunting "Distant Scream". That’s awesome!

Moreover, DMDJ allows you to import your own music tracks and play them on top of all the soundscapes and fx. And to spoil you, we added a vast collection of tracks from professional composers. DMDJ ships with more than 100 tracks covering all relevant genres. Don’t ask how we got the deal for the price – we were young and innocent!

Apart from helping you in setting up the perfect atmosphere for an immersive session, we also focus on dice rolling. DMDJ comes with a powerful and advanced dice system that can be completely customized to your needs. Reviews quotes:

"Within seconds of downloading, I constructed a soundscape consisting of a crowded city street with imperial horns for music accompaniment. Color me surprised at the quality of the music that comes with DMDJ; I typically expect default music to be the musical equivalent of clip art, but this is not the case."

-critical-hits.com

"DMDJ is the best solution I’ve found for engaging my table’s senses to another level and the proof is in the pudding. The same players who thought music was distracting when I’ve used it in the past came to the table last week asking, ‘What, we’re not going to have music this week?’…and so DMDJ became a regular feature at my table."

"I like DMDJ a lot. It’s easy to use, offers a lot of bang for the buck and might be a great app to add that additional oomph to your games."

Find out what gamers are saying about DMDJ:

We love this app! Not only can we add atmosphere to perfectly match any situation, but we can also add in FX for the battles! The only thing we really wish this was able to do would be to have the app continue playing in the background so if we had a note saved, we could close the app while it continued playing music, pull up the relevant notes and then right back to add the sound effects…

We’ve been using this app for years and while other similar apps charge you for new packs or by the environment, this one gives you everything up front, and more of it! The environments are amazing and never sound looped. The layering is perfect. You can buy another app and then keep paying for it, or you can pay once for this one and have it all.

Love it, has everything we wanted for adding just that little bit extra to our 5th ed campaign.

After searching many options to use during our tapletop RPG sessions, this is by far the best value, and actually most customizable. We found everything we wanted in this app. We wanted to be able to use our own music and sounds from within the app, yup. It’s a one time fee, not a subscription based service, yup. It has a lot of preloaded songs and effects from all genres, yup. It has the ability to preset music and effects in a custom way so that we with one button we can have all of our custom ambience playing, yup. Also some of the reviews, although positive stated they wanted to be able to turn up or down aspects of the volume, but couldn’t. Maybe there has been an update, but we easily found the mixer and was able to do all of that very easily. Very happy. We hope they are able to add even more sounds and songs, we would gladly pay a dollar or two for an expansion, but it is pretty loaded and like we said you can import your own playlists right out of iTunes. Great!

We originally bought this app to use while running D&D type games for our middle school students in China. Now we use it in our escape room business. Best of its kind.

It’s a good app with multiple uses for DM’s, but ultimately it’s still very flawed. In terms of ease of use I’d give it an 7.5/10. It syncs very easily with your music collection, even from subscription based music apps like Apple Music, and it has a very helpful guide you can access from the options. The Dice Rollers and custom dice formula creator it has are an amazing touch. The problems however are the fact that there’s no effective quick way to silence the sounds of certain options. A pause button would be an awesome addition to have for the layers. Also the lack of sound affect options is pretty bad for a paid DJ app. Even free DM Sound board apps like RPGSounds seem to have more sound affects and battle loops. What makes the lack of FX even worse is that half of them are sci-fi space sounds and half are traditional fantasy sounds. More SFX, a pause button for the layers, and if you could make it continue to play from the background while we switch over to other apps that would be amazing. Or better yet, add a customizable initiative tracker. That would definitely make this a 5 star app. Hell even if the tracker was a paid addition with slots for info I’d definitely pay for it just so we don’t have to interrupt the scene music to do our battles.

Love this idea, and it’s very well executed. However, we use our device to run stats for our game and when you exit the app, the audio stops abruptly. Would like the ability to run audio in the background, please!

This is a really great app to add that extra bit of ambience to your adventures. Unfortunately, one flaw (mentioned by other reviewers) puts it just short of a perfect rating. Background audio support would make this the perfect D&D music app.

Love this app but it doesnt play in the background.

We’ll start by saying we haven’t had a chance to test at a session yet, but we’re relatively certain DMDJ will perform well. We’re more worried about our rustiness as a DM. That being said, there’s just one thing we can think of at that moment which would improve the app a lot. In the mixer, it would be awesome to have a slider for the environment sounds, in addition to the sliders for FX, weather, and music. Just ooooone more slider. We understand not being able to pause the environment sounds, but if we could just mix it out without having to switch to a less busy environment, you know, when we want minimal sound or just the music… Well, that would be fantastic. We’ll update our review after a play session. But so far, it’s just an awesome app, which we are certain will be an indispensable part of our DMing.

Good selection of sounds, high sound quality, etc. I’d like to have the option to play the audio in the background so we can consult rules and save battery power. More sci-fi sounds like lasers, blasters, a few button sounds would be nice too.

So far we’re loving the quality of this app, but we feel there are three things that are holding it back from being a solid 5-star: 1. Background capability: we use our iPad for referencing campaign notes, which creates odd moments of silence when we switch apps. As such, we run DMDJ from our iPhone, but this kills the battery since we can’t turn the screen off. 2. Landscape on iPads: we feel like this is pretty self explanatory. Your website recommends using an iPad for a better overall experience. Most iPad cases orient the iPad in landscape. 3. A nice to have: iCloud backup the snapshots for easy transitioning between devices.

We will pay money for the maker of this to release a compatibility update for the current OS. Also it should let us turn off our phone and still have the music be playing. Thank you!!

Very solid app with lots of options and easy integration of our music on iOS. However its missing Airplay support which blows our mind since its designed to go to high quality speakers and we have to use a Bluetooth speaker instead of sending to our Airplay receiver for better sound. Also the inability to mute sound effects on demand is rough. Overall we still recommend this app but Im hoping for these two updates in the future. Our players love the ambience!

The one thing we would really love to see is the ability to pause the environmental music. Sometimes we just want to use the sound effects and its hard to even hear them properly over the environmental.

The list of sound effects, is very large ( you have over a dozen effects for foot steps, alone) and it is very easy to add favorites and a custom ‘soundboard’, and our only complaint is that it only works in portrait mode even when our iPad Pro is in landscape. Other than that, this app is great!

We love this app, it’s got some great music and it goes amazingly with our campaigns, only one improvement to be made, make a place with favourites, not only for the FX sounds, make a favourite tab for everything, so we don’t have to go searching for that one we know we want. Other than that we think the app is great.

While it took a while to learn DM DJ to use it to its best ability; we’ve enjoyed it immensely. Following the directions to add playlists of our soundtracks made this the perfect app for us. A few other DMs we know went heavy into the other music RP program and after a couple campaigns dropped using it. The time it took to organize and the monetary drain became annoying. The simplicity of this one keeps it useful: select your environment, music, day/night, and weather and youre good to go! Go learn to create your own playlists! Its a 4 out of 5 because it needs more modern and scifi environments–its mainly fantasy with a limited selection of other environments. If it opened up users to create their own environments/sound effects it would be a solid 5.

We love to use this app while DMing. Our players are never expecting it the first time and they always get so excited and immersed. Great app all in all. Our only issue is that some of the ambiences are just a different pitch of wind blowing quietly, which is kinda lame. But it’s not very common, so the app is still one of our favorite D&D assets to use. Definitely would recommend.

We love everything about this app. Well worth the money. Gives our campaigns that extra flavor. Please add background capability. We use multiple apps to organize our campaigns and we are forced to choose between music and tracking our encounters in another app. Other than that everything works fantastic.

So we like it, but honestly theres a few things Id change. 1) Some actual in-app tutorials or explanations of the custom dice rolls and some of the more complicated features would be nice. 2) Some additions to the sound library it comes with would be rather nice. Under weather, we mean, you dont have just… Wind? A lot of areas are a bit lacking. 3) Biggest thing of all, when you first open the app it says its meant to be played through a hi-fi speaker system. Alright. Understandable. But the thing is, you cant even preview things unless you have speakers or headphones or something plugged in. It just… Deliberately WILL NOT play out of your phones speakers. And if Im just setting something up, testing things out, messing around… We dont care about sound quality. Let us hear it!

So this is a great app. Good interface easy to use. We think it would be nice to have a pause button on the different effect and sounds, not just the music. It crosses the boarder from background noise to foreground noise. Even on its lowest setting there are a lot of sounds going on at once. Otherwise the labeling is great, music and sound effects are very well crafted.

Fixing the previous version bug and 64 bit isn’t much of an update. Haven’t had any new content in over 2 years.

So yeah our first campaign involves our party getting shanghaied into an arena where they fight to the death. Tried as we might we were unable to find a cheering crowd sound effect or arena or jeering or anything that would have worked. Might use it for later stuff but for know we’re going to have to look elsewhere. ^_^ thanks.

Developers, please make it so the music keeps playing even when the app is not directly open!! As a dm this is a must-have feature!

Awesome concept but extremely tiresome that we cant even pause the sounds. This is such an easy fix. It would be perfect otherwise.

Everything else is great so far, but we need to be able to pause environmental sounds. The support website says they can’t in order to protect intellectual property, but we can’t use defective software. Would be even more secure if it just didn’t play sound at all…

We’ve had this app for a year now and it doesnt play any sounds anymore. The last update was a year ago. People have asked for stopping the playback of the environmental sounds and we agree, but the developer still hasnt offered this option. You always have to play an environment, fitting or not, to hear sound FX. This is now a rotted out app with no further innovation applied.

This app doesnt even work. The dice are the only thing that work. The music does not.

While this App is a good idea we believe it is over all flawed do to their licensure agreement and overall coding outline. According to their website in there FAQ you are not able to turn off the environmental sounds without overwriting it with Music, in other words there will always be noise coming from the app. This constant noise takes away from the value of their other features such as their effects such as sound effects or their weather sounds which are therefore drowned out by environmental sounds. Unlike the music weather and sound effects cannot be changed in volume relative to the other components. The only option left then is to mute everything and pretty much render the app useless. We attempted to try and get around this problem by adding personalized the music to it, which is a great feature that they theoretically offer, with the customized music being "silence" but we were unable to have this actually go into the app because the only music that will carry over from your playlist is music that has actually been purchased through the iTunes store. We had an extensive conversation with Apple and they were not able to help us come up with a solution to this problem because it is extremely complicated to try and add the coding of iTunes store purchases to Music that was not purchased through the store. In short while this app is a good idea and can be nice for basic use, but if you want to be a truly good DM and not have a bunch of annoying incredibly loud environmental noises going all the time and still produce other find noises which would be the part of the point in this app we would suggest against using this app.

We took a chance on this app hoping that it would provide us with situational music for our DnD campaign, turns out the music doesn’t change when you change environments. It’s one generic tune the whole time.

If you use an iPad then dont get this. It can only be played vertically in portrait mode. The sound effects are bad. You cant play it in the background or play music on top.

An app that has potential, but turns out to be a D&D themed app rather than a good D&D music app. First and foremost, I’d much rather have a better improved music app than have the dice rolling this app offers. Sure the dice rolling is nice if we didn’t have dice, but you can’t really call yourself a DM if you don’t have some dice. Furthermore, you might as well us Game Master 5 or Fight Club 5 if you really needed an app to play the game. Now what makes this a relatively bad app is mainly the mixer… It doesn’t really do much. All of the ambient sounds are played on the music channel meaning you can’t increase or decrease the volume of the ambient sounds and the music separately. To make it much worse, all of the ambient sounds are MUCH too loud. They also have a number of sound effects which basically play just a single sound once and this is what the "sound effects" portions of the mixer controls… So yeah that makes the ambient sounds basically useless if you want to actually hear the music. Another thing that makes this app sub-par is that everything is in menus. You don’t have a sound board or anything that you can edit to make finding the right ambient sounds or right music easier aside from a "favorites," but that’s pretty terrible for a sound app, especially for one in a game as active as D&D. Every time you want to switch the environment, you have to do so manually by swiping through multiple menus, for music and ambience separately, weather too if you want to use that. As for sound effects? You better not want to use those on a whim because you’ll have to swipe through those manually as well. If you really want a good customizable music app, use Audio Board, an app specially made to allow you to make a custom sound board. The only downside to it is that you can’t play from multiple boards at once, but it’s still much better than this app. UPDATE 3/11/18: Yeah… We decided to try and give this another chance, but its absolutely useless. Dont purchase this app, theres no way to organize the FX or music or what give you aside from the standard alphabetical. So if you want to take forever to set up everything, then sure this app might be for you? But yeah, this needs a way to organize everything into sets that are relevant to certain settings. And we mean sets as in select FX, Nature, AND music, not the worthless semi-organization in each individual theme. Hell, even if they app just made it more user friendly, such as give a single button to mute everything immediately (without having to navigate through a second menu to do so) as well as buttons to do things like say… Mute just the nature sounds or music? Hell give us a way to silence the nature sounds period and Id find just the weather to be at least sort of decent. As it stands? Dont purchase this app. Just go use something like AudioBoard. You may have to set up more stuff by yourself, but its more customizable and, sadly, much more user friendly.

App doesn’t play any sounds/music without playing some kind of environment sound effects in the background. Wish we would have known that before forking over our money.

After searching youtube for playlists for nearly an hour, we decided to go to the app store and try our luck. This is by far even better than we expected! Great library of loops, easy interface, and a good mix of fantasy and modern. Highly recommended for fellow gamers and dm’s!!

It is an excellent solution to enhance any table top RPG experience. Continuously develops app and listens to user feedback.

We really like this app! It helped us create the realistic atmosphere we were looking for as a dungeon Master. It is even better now that they have released the update patch. We really love all the new sound effects and background environment sounds.

We love using this app while reading our Legend of Drizzt books!

This app is absolutely fantastic! It’s the ONLY app of it’s kind. We purchased 3 years ago, and the guys at Blueface games are STILL adding sounds and updates. If you run a tabletop game, you can add dimensions of immersion that would just be impossible otherwise.

Update: 5.22.15 new build froze on main screen. Deleting app and re-downloading app fixed problem. Great new improvements and added content. No other atmosphere sound app like it for tabletop RPGs. Original review. This apps has some nice functions, the background sounds and music are nice. There are some major problems with the user interface though. You can turn off the music but not the background sounds? Needs a big sound off button. The app looks nice visually but the interface is really confusing. Great functionality but user interface needs to be totally rethought.

This is the top cheese of any D&D software, and for free? Unbeatable. Thank you.

This app is pretty fantastic. The content is great and the price is perfect. Other similar apps have subscription fees which we are not a fan of. Our only criticism is the app interface. It is much improved but still feels a bit confusing and very dated. We have to dig down into two layers of menus to find sound effects that we want. Again, this app is amazing, but we think the next update should focus on a complete revamp of the interface, throw it out and start from scratch. A tight modern ui would make turn this app into something every DM owns.

Sounds are great quality. Environments are rich and full. The one glaring flaw is that you can’t turn off the environment sounds. Gets frustrating after a while.

Lots of good, evolving sounds at your disposal with this app. Paired with character soundboards for players and enemies, we’ll have the ultimate ambience.

The audio abruptly cuts out as soon as you try to use your device for anything else. We need to be able to reference the notes and rules on our iPad when we run our games, so this is kind of a deal breaker. Otherwise, the app is brilliant at what it does. Please add background audio so that we can use this app while running our games!

The audio mixer doesn’t work. At all. The three presets work. But the actual sliders don’t do anything no matter what setting they’re on. Will update once we test every aspect.

We got this for two reasons. The snap shot capturing music sounds etc for a quick chain effect. Also being able to add our own music was appealing. Sadly the snap shot effect doesn’t work well. We made about 11 all together so could quickly select items. We were only able to do about 2 snap shots till it got stuck in a loop. Little disappointed.

I’d really love to be able to stop the background noise/environment sounds, or at least mute them. We enjoy the app more for the sound effects. We really love the new favorites list, however!

Could be great app if it had a stop button. No clue why this was released without such a basic feature. Even closing the app and reopening does not reset the sound.
