Dragon’s Lair 30th Anniversary Reviews

Its so awesome that they have put a classic game on mobile we think Derek and the dragon are awesome.

This game is fun. Cyberleader63 approved.

This is an amazing game its just like the arcade reminds us of when we were a teenager playing in the arcades all day.

This is one of the best ports o have ever seen. We dont know why the one mega neighsayer said the timing was bad. As we recall, the arcade machines were just as bad, highly persnickety and this is a faithful reproduction of that it seems. It also depends on the speed of your hardware somewhat how lagging sync issues can be and what you have in the background sucking up processor time. We found it as playable as the arcade except Im more fond of an actual joystick. The video is one of the cleanest and clearest renditions we have seen of this game and we’ve played it on almost every system we’ve owned. The non arcade booth facade gameplay is better and Im not sure yet what difference is between arcade or home version but there are lots of different options and combinations thereof to try. Its a very faithful rendition. It may be a tad bit better than the previous gold standard DVD video version which was until now the most complete best looking version we had played. Glad to see an old favorite from the magical era of laserdisc make a combative. Now if someone oh someone would just please put out Cobra Command and that other hyper realistic looking space game that game out during that same game era.. Id be really really happy about that. Two awesome games completely disappeared. They were more fun than Dragons Lair in our book.

Love the game (like others). Played for 15 minutes and fell into the elevator loop (again like others)… Our bad for not believing other reviews. But figured new version took care of the problem. Nope. Anyone know how to get our $5 back?!?

The app gets stuck on the Elevator level and the scene plays over and over again whether you complete the level or not! Please review this error and get it updated! Thank you!

We had forgotten all about this game from back in the day until we saw it played on Stranger Things. Once we had, we couldnt get it out of our mind. We hadnt even considered that there might be an iOS version until the other day when we checked and, to our delight, there is! Now our whole family is playing it on our iPhones and iPads. The game is just like we remember it but, with enough time, practice, and memory (no quarters needed anymore), weve all been able to beat it – even our 8-yr-old. Love this and will definitely be buying the sequel!

We love this game and have since we were a child. There is a bug in it right now on the app so we hope they figure it out soon. The buttons for sword and the joystick arent there unless you choose Arcade Box view.

Have no issues whatsoever as soon many of the other reviews note. Im still as terrible at this as game when we first played about 22 years ago! However, the nostalgia makes it so worth it! If you loved this game back in the day you will not be disappointed.

Awesome game. Brings back a lot of memories. But the game freezes at one certain spot every single time. Regardless of whether we re-download it or start over so can you try to fix it please.

This is our favorite game of all time and the bug is fixed finally and we just beat the game.

We would give this a 5 star however there are 2 things that all APPs at this point should have: 1. The settings option that appear when the game starts is no longer available after you set them and play. So if we want to change some of the experience we cant. 2. Login option to save to cloud so if you change phones you keep your scores. Now, we remember playing this as a kid and it was always a challenge to play and still is. This version is just as challenging and it takes time to get better which means you wont be board. Overall play is nothing like what others have said in reviews from 2 years ago, as the play and continue options are great. Thanks.

This game is Only for people who have a fast reaction time so if your slow don’t buy this, but if you are going to not buy this please buy this because it’s fun for your friends and yourself because it’s so action-packed because every room is randomized and the Amazing art is so nice if the game was pixelized you wouldn’t feel a lot when the guy dies but the artwork makes is feel so horrible when the guy dies but some of the death scenes are just recycled from other scenes ( this was probably just for space and money and time ) so it’s worth 5.00 $ on iPhone so we would buy it and we did and it was made it the 80s for arcades so it’s a little fuzzy but we don’t mind and you can watch the entire game and see all of the death scenes and what you were supposed to do.

They r making a movie about this lol.

It is possible to clear all the levels and save the princess. Fun 30 minutes if you have this hanging over your head – running out of quarters before completing the original.

People complaining about reaction time, yes, you must be fast, but it took us back to the 80s for sure! We love the sounds and graphics! We never had enough quarters to get very far, now for $4.99 we can play as much as we want. We recommend this game.

We were so close of rescuing the princess but it keeps glitching at the last trial be reaching the dragons lair.

The game is super fun, and we can play on the arcade cabinet, but when we want to play the regular mobile version we have to turn on the move guide to play, every time we try to turn the move guide off, the controls disappear. Please fix this, we want to be able to play full screen.

We’ve noticed that the app can hang if you attempt to resume a game after exiting completely out and coming back in. There is a particular scenario we ran into after continuing a game in the falling platform scene. There are 9 chances to jump off the platform. We played the scene correctly hitting all 9 times and still died. Maybe we need to find a walk through, but it appeared to us to be a bug. We loved this game and still do, but it needs to be a tad more forgiving in easy mode. We think our screen isnt calibrated just so or our skin is to dry to register taps reliably..

We get to the final elevator before the dragons lair, which requires 9 inputs. Even when the game registers that we’ve made all the correct inputs (giving us green arrows), we die anyway. They need to fix this.

We love the game its awesome but its so hard but the hame is intended to be hard but there is one bug in the game on the falling platforms whenever we press left or right nothing happens and we go into a loop until we run out of lives we cant advance any further til this bug is fixed we read the reviews but we thought since they were from 2017 they were playing an old version and the new version was fixed NOPE.

In the easy mode as we keep remembering the patterns you have virtually less than a second to make a move. Please add just a bit more time to respond and it would really help.

Dragons Lair! More like Dragons Unfair, in case you didnt know this is a port of the arcade game which we LOVE but the thing crashes freezes exits itself and its impossible to get passed the 2nd or 3rd elevator its a fun game but Id stick to SPACE ACE (Im playing this on a iPhone 5s) (but we still have it because its so fun)

After reading all of the reviews, we knew to expect the game to loop and not allow you past the falling elevator level. Yes, this happened to us. In settings, we shifted the MODE to be HOME instead of arcade. We were then able to finish the game! We would have given this 5 stars if the arcade setting worked. Enjoy!

You need to fix the timing of the game you have like a fraction of a second to decide what to do resulting in a lot of deaths! Need more time to decide what move to make!!!

We like this port. Very fun however we find it annoying sometimes. One reason is the guide. Theres an option to have the cheats on and thats fine but every time we turn the cheats off it wont work meaning we cant win. The only way we can play the game without the cheat is to have this lousy overlay of an arcade cabinet which makes it hard to play. Hope they fix this problem.

Its all fun and games until you get to the falling platform. If it gets buggy, youll NEVER get off that platform!

The game is great but has a few horrible glitches, the elevator loop thats been mentioned by many others and in the scene with the closing brick wall nothing happens the first time around.

The nostalgia is nice until you get to the 3rd or 4th falling platform section and die every time no matter what due to poor program timing.

The platform glitches arent cool. The game is unresponsive to commands and you just keep smashing into the floor. Thus making it impossible to move past that level. We suppose if you just relabeled the game as 50% of the real game that would seem fair. Or perhaps not dragons lair at all since no player will actually get to see the dragon…. Glitch lair – yes that feels right.

Game is fun all the way up until level 9 elevator scene. Player will not jump off the platform all the way down through 9 floors it just crashes. Please fix or refund our 5 dollars playa!

Dragons Lair was a arcade game that used revolutionaly technology by using massive discs to output video. It was the grandfather of quick-time events. The game received a sequel and spin-off known as Space Ace, both didnt do so well due to the Video Game Crash of 1983. The original game got so successful that it recieved many ports, most infamously, the NES version. As technology evolved, we got the console versions, the Steam version, and this version. The iOS version is not very good. Even though the entire game plays exactly like the original, it seems that the window of when to hit the correct button is offset from the video, resulting in cheap deaths. It would be cool if there was the ability to play the infamous drawbridge scene, but that most likely will not happen since this game hasnt been updated in years. If youre looking for a good port of the original Dragons Lair, this is definitely not one of them. We would suggest playing the console versions or the Steam version of the game.

Is there an update the platforms like the other review we get perfect then still die.

Why Is It soooo hard to fix these minor issues with this game? Where are the control icons when you play without being guided? They simply disappear. Before there were arrows In the top, bottom, left, right then the sword on the far right. Now nothing. For the love of everything good please, please fix these issues.

All time favorite but things changed when they updated the game last year. It keeps looping on the falling platform elevator scene. The controls can now only be on the left side of the screen. No more top scores posted. We do not understand why they felt the need to update it. This game was PERFECT pre-2018. Hopefully gets fixed. The game is still fun up until you start looping on the falling platform; then youre done.

We too have found this glitch and cant proceed any further in the game. Please address this issue.

We’ve played this game in its original cabinet format, and visually this game is great, but the playability is terrible! It glitches all of the time and hinders the gameplay and then it gets stuck in loops and forces you to restart. If it was free, it wouldnt matter, but theyre charging for this crap. Dont waste your money.

We’ve loved this game since we were a child, so we were extremely excited to find this in the App Store. We splayed up until the falling platform level and hit all 9 prompts correctly and Dirk still dies. So there is no way to get past this point. Please update and fix this glitch.

We played this for the first time, yesterday, at an arcade. The game is fun enough. Prior to purchasing the iOS version, we read one review talking of a particular scene not responding to the control input. We looked past it in hopes that it had been fixed. Now we have played for 10 minutes, myself, and there is a scene that has bugged out any time we try it; we make the correct selection, but the game does not load whatever comes next. We are all for keeping old games alive, but it is even less respectful to an audience to release a broken product and not continue making fixes. As a fan, and consumer, we implore all producers to create content that functions properly.

At first, the game seemed and played well. Then, it started to glitch. During the falling platform section, the game wouldnt let us act. Then we were stuck an infinite loop. Now Im out five bucks.

We cant get past the platform part of the game. It keeps going to same part. We cant advance. Just payed for the game. We want our money back. Dont waste your money buying this game it does not work.

Falling platform glitch is still alive and well you cannot get off the falling platform no matter what so you cant complete the game.

Cant even play the game. It erratically cycles through levels without even touching controls and then crashes.

Like previous reviews, there is an endless during the falling platforms. The game is unwindable. You can not pass this scene at all. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

Glitches all over. No time to make any moves. Useless game.

We remember the arcade. The game is way too difficult because there is Very Little reaction time to hit the direction arrow and sword command!! We put this on Easy more and reaction time is still minimal.

We Love dragons lair there is so much amazing about this port but there is one problem that desperately has to be fix. One of the platform scenes will not respond leaving you unable to finish the game in the future we hope to see this fixed then we will change our rating to 5 stars.

Way too difficult to use the direction and sword controls on the touch screen. Even on EASY mode, game is impossible. Wasted $4.99 and played the game for all of 3 minutes before uninstalling.

It is impossible to get past the falling platform. It wont let you jump off unless its in the wrong spot and then you die. The game worked better before the update.
