Thank you for finally updating this! It was a bit upsetting that we were suddenly not able to open it but we think its worth the wait! The overall graphics are crisp and smooth, Im finally able to play one of our brothers favorite game!
Simply put it is a joy to be able to play Final Fantasy IX again. Job well done!
The game is now functional again! One of the best FF games out there. We cant wait to start this up again!
Square actually came through. After almost a year of this game becoming unplayable due to iOS updates they finally got this wonderful masterpiece up and running again. This was our first FF we played all the way through and we can say it is still our favorite. Thank you Square for fixing this childhood memory.

Oh man, we havent played this in years. Got an iPhone 8+ and its running beautifully. Having previously played this game we can tell you theres the possibility of over a hundred hours of game play here, no need to rush. Thanks for bringing this forward to the mobile age guys.
Still early in the game, but so far the experience has been great. The game ported really well and handles the iPad screen well. Took a little getting used to the controlls, but it mostly feels natural.
Update: they fixed it: we love square Enix and how great to see them releasing the pixel remastered but it sorta frustrating we cant play our all time favorite game on the go anymore.

Update needed for iOS 14.5 the app wont start. Square does not support its app in app store, the ffix wont start and also some of our older apps like old chaos rings are also not available. Im a big contributor to square and buy their game all the times starting from the 90s till now, but Im losing our trust in them. They are not how they used to be anymore. Please support us like square golden days. Thanks.
We have had this game for a couple of weeks and enjoyed going back to our childhood and playing final fantasy 9 again. However, within the last 24 hours when we have tried to open the game to play it, it crashes when we select continue. This has happened about four times now and Im getting increasingly frustrated. Other than that, it is beautifully rendered and optimized for our phone which is an iPhone 13 Pro Max. We love the controls as they are really simple and easy to understand. Great game if we could just play it now.
We tried to open the app this morning, and it said that the developer needs to update it to work with iOS. We just bought this game, and now we cant play it on our iPad or iPhone. We love this game in general, but Im giving 4 stars because it crashes every time we try to load it. This is after they pulled it and say they fixed the issue. This is frustrating and seems to be getting worse now that Im on disk 2. Id like them to try again. We beat FFI to FFVIII (as well as Tactics and some other stuff) on our phone without any similar issues (okay, Im a FF fanboy, oh well). This one is buggy for some reason.

Ff9 is our favorite but when played with a controller on iOS it double clicks buttons. At first we thought it was the controller but 9 is the only game that does this and it does this on steam as well from what we have read.
The controller button sensitivity is extreme, it skips dialogues if you dont tap the B button really fast.
IPhone 13 Pro Max. Crashes every time we try to boot up.
Sound disappears within 5 min. Closing and restarting helps.. Another 5 min. IPhone 10 mega ultra XX.

Current Problem: Constant crashing. Every time we load the game it crashes. We have to boot the game, sometimes 7-10 times before it will load up properly. Will update review if its fixed because its worth it. We will bump this up to 5 stars if it goes back to the way it used to be, as we bought this for the crazy high price of $20 so that id have the game for our long term plans of moving abroad. So when we dont understand what anyone is saying, we can have something to do on our phone sounds good in theory. As many of you know that have owned the game on iOS for some time, the game literally flat out BROKE for like 9 months until they fixed it, all the while, you dont know if it was ever going to come back for the 20 bones you spent, as it was even removed from the iOS store at one point completely. Fast forward to now: its an AMAZING port and it works awesome, WHEN it manages to load and doesnt crash. You can have unlimited money, full trance, no enemy fights, and level 99 with maxed skills if you want. Which is very nice for those of us that want to play the game but dont have the time for the grinding aspects like we used to. Pros: Built in cheats: – Max level, XP, Skills, (permanent if turned on) – Max Money (permanent if turned on) – Constant Trance (can turn on and off) – No enemy encounter (can turn on and off) – 2x speed for faster travel, faster encounters, etc. Cloud-save data in case you get a new phone 100% just like original PS1 version and controls work well on-screen (Edit: Also works great with a PS4 controller via bluetooth. You can buy a mobile phone / controller mount and simply customize the controls in the in-game menu to whatever you want) Cons: HIGH price of $20 for a 20+ year old game ported to iOS when other Final Fantasy ports are cheaper Game doesnt seem to be supported very well as it disappeared from AppStore for a solid 6-9 months easy, due to a simple iOS update, that other applications patched within a week or two As if right now (March 2022) game is crashing A LOT on startup. Often needs 7-10 boots in order to warm up and work.
We keep trying to play this game but this keeps happening. We tried last year and we would only go to a certain level and then you couldnt play. We didnt even get that far this time.
Crushed With New/Recent IOS system.
The backbone controller doesnt work very well with this. You have to press the buttons extremely fast and short or itll be a double press. So when youre in battles it makes it really difficult to select commands without selecting the wrong thing.
Crashes every time we try to load our progress.
The port of this game is excellent in so many ways, but Im reviewing this only 3 stars because the game was (obviously) originally designed to be used with a controller, but the physical controllersupport is so bad in FFIX for iOS that playing with a controller is essentially impossible. We have tried multiple controllers, but all have the same issue (which is corroborated by some google searches): almost any single button-press is interpreted as multiple button-presses. For example, if you press your controllers select button to attack, you wont have a chance to choose which enemy youre attacking, because your button-press is interpreted as multiple presses. Too bad, because we really want to play this game with a physical controller!
Im glad to be playing the game until recently. The game will not load on continue or load game, it just crashes to the ios home screen and we saved right before quitting nothing was wrong. It just wont load now so Im not able to play. Also, while im here, it would be amazing to see a full touch port of FFX to ios!
There’s an issue when using backbone controller. It’ll double select options in-game. Fix this.

Game Crashed When Loading The Save Files Please Fix It Right Away If Possible.
We love this game, and when it runs well, its a blast. Lately, it seems that we have a corrupt save file or something because every time we try to load a save file or continue, the app crashes. Im at least 20 hours in, on what would be disc 3, and we cant continue. No updates are available for the app. If you care about completing this game, just beware!
Every time we try to continue our game it immediately kicks us right out and not sure why? Loved this game on the PlayStation and was excited to play on our phone but now just disappointed.
This game is great and the port was working well until recent iOS update or perhaps app updates have made playing the game difficult due to app stability issues including forced closure particularly when loading saved games. Hopefully the developers will fix this soon.
The touch controls work pretty well for a game of this style, and we appreciate the attention to that and the QOL improvements, but physical controllers make the game basically unusable. Button presses are sometimes (though not always) interpreted as multiple presses, resulting in skipped dialog, accidentally bought/sold items, and all manner of other issues. This persists with different controllers and across iOS and iPadOS. Since the game was originally designed to be played with a controller, this seems like it should be a pretty minor bug fix. Its really the only thing holding this version back.
We cant get sound yes volume is up!! Help.
We like this game and want to play it. But it crashes multiple times every time we try to play it. We hit continue or load game and it crashes, over and over. We have to wait for the opening load scenes before we can try again, so that we often spend most of our commute loading and reloading before we can finally start playing. Once the game gets going, it has been pretty stable. But put your phone down to do something else or die in the game and you are looking at some severe issues before you can get back into playing again. So disappointing for a classic game from a major studio that costs this much money.
Lots of double presses. We tried with two different Xbox controllers.
We were loving this play through but now we cant open our save after playing for hours and hours and we have no way to continue.
It crashes. A good amount. Im on iOS 16 max pro 12. We’ve had days where we couldnt load our last save. Itll randomly work again. We know in our heart itll completely fail when Im close to the end. Save often and use all the slots they give you just in case.
We downloaded FF7 not long ago for nostalgias sake and after we beat that game we wanted to try another FF game. 9 is a great fun game and it’s easy enough to play on a phone. It’s not anywhere close to to 7, but worth the buy if you’re a final fantasy fan. Our complaint is that it crashes constantly. Then we’ll have to reboot the game 4-5 times just to get our saved game to load again. We’ve lost hours of game play due to this. You know you’re in trouble when the games last update description is "Inability to play the game has been resolved". We’re running it on an iPhone 12 Pro, so it’s not that we even have an older phone. If you download it, save often.
