FINAL FANTASY III — now on iPad!

When darkness falls and the land is robbed of light, four youths are chosen by the crystals to embark upon a journey to save the world.

FINAL FANTASY III was the first title in the FINAL FANTASY series to become a million-seller, establishing once and for all that Square Enix’s classic RPG saga was here to stay.

A hallmark of innovation for the entire series, FINAL FANTASY III incorporates not only a job system that lets characters change classes at any time to the ability to summon powerful creatures such as Shiva and Bahamut.

The 3D remake of FINAL FANTASY III, with fully-rendered 3D graphics, duplicated the original’s success.

  • The four protagonists have been completely redesigned and new scenarios have been added.

  • The 3D remake has really brought the cutscenes and battles to life.

  • The Job system has been improved to bring out its best and most unique aspects, resulting in a more balanced game that is easy to enjoy.

  • New save functions, including autosave, allow for players to quit the game at any time without fear of losing their progress.

  • High resolution graphics and retouched cutscenes.

  • Smooth, intuitive touch-panel controls specifically tailored to improve the gaming experience.

  • Gallery Mode, where players can view illustrations from the game or listen to the soundtrack, has been added.

  • New visual designs for the Job Mastery Cards and the Mognet .

Find out what gamers are saying about FINAL FANTASY III for iPad(3D):

Please, add controller support, is the only thing missing!

Fun game. The fact that it isnt compatible with controllers is a big loss.

A lack of controller support for this is disappointing. Further research finds that Square Enix doesnt give controller support a lot. Last purchase from us until they add it in.

Sadly no controller support for this version of the game forces us to give it a one star review, seeing as we have waisted our money on it. We will go back to playing the iPhone version which does have controller support. Seriously, why cant you transfer the controller support from one over to the other? You need to take controllers for mobile games seriously and its frustrating as a huge fan of Final Fantasy (the only game we consistently play besides Minecraft) to not have a decent way to access the catalog when you are so close. You have provided the support for so many other games flawlessly. We dont understand the issue, considering you are charging a considerable amount for the game. It would be totally worth it if we had controller support but we feel ripped off and our money was waisted on this purchase. FWI, we purchased this game a while back and am still fuming about it.

Is this version of the game going to be able to use controller. The Iphone version can but the iPad version should also need controller access.

1st, this game is phenomenal, very fun to play, great place to start for ANYONE interested in diving into Final Fantasy. The storyline is great, gameplay is challenging but not too tough, music is SPOT ON & what we expect from this incredible series. We’ve been playing Final Fantasy since 1987 & currently working on FF IV The After Years & FFIV & FFVIII Remastered for Nintendo Switch & we can say that FF3 is one of THE BEST in the series! Cant wait for Final Fantasy Orchestra Tour this year in Chicago! Download FF3! You wont be disappointed! No controller needed, ignore the other reviews! 5 STARS!

The story is good, its nice you thought of this for iPad, now people like us can enjoy this. It would be nice if you could remove the credits during cutscenes, they kinda mess up the feel. We have one question how do you turn your guys into Toads so we can do the tower. Overall, great game, and its FREE so AMAZING job.

Finally came around to buying the iPad version after owning and playing on psp. The graphics are clean, sound is great. Everything is there except proper controls. Ff4 has control support and works out wonderfully but this ff3 iPad version does not and is VERY DIFFICULT to control at times. Mainly the virtual analog stick. The sensitivity between walking and running is ridiculous to the point we wish it was more of a toggle that we can click to turn running Off or Always On. It can get extremely hard to just walk into a door to get inside anywhere. We dont understand Square Enix lack of control support on iPad games such as this, Valkyrie Profile and Final Fantasy Tactics. We really dont get it. Do they not read or see complaints and reviews? How much more positive reviews would be for one simple fix? We understand things get busy but people are spending hard earned money for these games. They arent free.

… Still no controller support o.0.

Update very Nice but ipad pro mfi impossible.

Got a cutscene 8 months ago, but still no controller support?

There’s no sound coming out of the game at all.

Seems like a fundamental oversight. Disappointing.

So youll give the phone version of FF3 controller support but not the ipad version? Im just going to stop buying apps from SE because obviously you do not care for your supporters. Why is it SE keeps getting worse and worse with app updates? But theyll definitely keep their prices up and keep taking eveyones money.

Final Fantasy III is one the last FF games that we have downloaded from the Apple store. Mostly because we heard that it was slow (it is a bit at the beginning) and that the final dungeon is very long & difficult (yes its a bit lengthy but by that time the game becomes really challenging & fun). Just prepare well, save often, and if you are like us and dont want or have time to slog around looking for where to go next, there are several free guides & walkthroughs online that will help. Probably a bit antiquated compared to more modern FF games, but we really think that if you enjoy classic RPG (I remember playing Ultima which gives you an idea of how old a gamer we am) you will most likely enjoy FF III. Great graphics, awesome music, and after the obligatory warm-up it becomes a wonderfully unique game playing experience.

Awesome gameplay, very happy with our purchase. Was a little standoffish to play this 3D version but we are very glad we did. Not a good game for those who hate level grinding because you have both character level and 23 job levels to master (though, you certainly don’t HAVE to grind all jobs and character level to 99.) Well worth purchasing, any Final Fantasy fan will enjoy the game. Game mechanics are virtually flawless.

We just got the iPhone 7 plus and tried download all of the Final Fantasy versions to it finding out that this is iPad version is not supported unless we pay another $15 for no major difference. We’ll still give it 4 of 5 stars because it is still a great game.

The notes on Saving in the Control Hints specifically say Auto quicksave automatically saves your progress as you play the game. So we naturally assumed that there was some kind of autosaving happening as we were playing the game. So we were shocked to discover after dying at the very beginning of the cave in Kazus that there was no autosave data we could resume from and we had to start playing the game over from the very beginning. These instructions about saving are extremely misleading. What if we had been playing the game for a lot longer before dying for the first time and then discovered we had to restart the game from the beginning?

The game is great, and the cloud back up save works between the iPhone version and the iPad version, even though this game is not a universal app. We know the cloud back up save works because we accidentally bought the iPhone version to play on our iPad, thinking that it was a universal app just as the rest in the series on the App Store. We were using our mfi controller when we discovered that we bought the iPhone version, and the controller worked great. But since we wanted the iPad version, we contacted apple for a refund to buy the version we wanted. When we bought the iPad version, we were surprised that there was no controller support! We do not want to contact apple again for a refund in order to play a version with controller support, especially since the iPad is the more likely platform to use a controller with. In short, please add controller support to this great game. Thank you.

The remaster itself is very good, however the game is still the most cheap final fantasy we have played out of about the 10 we have played. If you do not like level grinding, then this game definitely isn’t for you, but even given that notion this game has some bosses that will 1-hit your entire party almost regardless of your level, if you are unlucky. Get final fantasy 5, it is a more balanced game that still keeps the job system but has less grinding and has much more fair boss battles.

We mistakenly bought this game thinking it was a universal app and that we could use an MFI controller like on the iPhone version. Well, you can’t. We can’t fathom why Square-Enix would have controller support for a 4-6 inch screen display, but not for the larger iPad screen. We’re guessing they won’t ever update this either. We also noticed the opening cutscene that plays in the beginning of the game menu is gone and it’s just the word version. Not sure why they removed it but there’s some really bonehead decisions going by on around here. Just beware before you purchase. Technically we should blame the Nimbus companion app for not clarifying that FFIII controller support is only on the iPhone, but yeah…

Great game, but please add support for controllers.

This game worked very well on iPad. Easy to play and very fun.

The iPhone version of the game has been updated with controller support and yet after so long the iPad version, which needs support for controller more than the iPhone version, still doesn’t have it. It’s sad that nowadays game developers focus so much on freemium games with basically no decent content, and do a crappy job with paid games that doesn’t make money on user addictions.

We must for ff fans. This plays very well on ipad.

The game that Pokemon ripped off, the third game in the series takes people on a quest for a diamond or something. The gameplay is fun since it was from 1990. The only problem is that Pokemon kinda ripped off the story with the random encounters and stuff. Either way, the game is still fun and we hope to play the fourth one! This review was brought to you by Pokemon, gotta catch all the games!

Needs MFi controller support >:C.

Why this game not support cross platform to iPhone? And it was in separate price? But the others FF games are cross compatible for both.. That’s not fair…

We’ve played a number of Final Fantasy games through the years, but not many of the older ones. Glad to get a chance to play through 3. We just finished the game, and while the story wasn’t as enthralling as later installments, it was executed well on iOS. It was well done enough to convince us to purchase FFIV, for what it’s worth.

Ignore the 1 star trolls complaining about trivial inconveniences like controller support etc. For the normal iPad user, this is one of the best true turned-based RPGs ever made.

Nice upgrade of graphics. Playing through all of these FF games. After playing FF1, this game is beautiful.

This is one of the more underrated JRPGs. It may be hard if you don’t like level grinding, but the storyline is excellent and the gameplay and battles are very deep and strategic. Highly recommended.

We really like this game, but now it won’t stop telling us that we can save with Cloud…

We’ve really enjoyed this game since it was released on the App Store for the iPad; however, that was before we got an iPhone. We’re now in college, and we want to download our game onto our iPhone. We’re a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, so please Square Enix, do your fans a favor and make FFIII a universal app. Here’s an idea, make both versions universal; that way, nobody loses their copy of the game or pay for it twice! Do that and we’ll give the game a 5 star rating.

We would be happy to rate this higher if it had controller support like the iphone version. Instead we get cloud saving so you can share your save between the iPad and the iPhone version (that you have to buy separately) this is just sloppy and a slap in the face of everyone who paid for this.

We thought like most games that the iPad and iPhone versions would be the same app. Our mistake. Please cancel our purchase and refund our money.

Square Enix, please get your apps together. FFIV is a universal app, but lacks iCloud saving. FFIII has iCloud saving, but if you want to use it you need to buy two separate apps. To top that off, you offer an application bundle, which includes the FFIII iPhone version, but not the FFIII iPad version, so if we just want to use an iPad only as we don’t currently have any other iDevices, the bundle is useless to us. Currently we use an iPad mini and am considering switching to an iPhone 6+. Unless this is resolved FFIII will be left behind forever as we’re not going to shell out another $16 for something we already paid for.

Long story short. We paid full price for this game, got rid of our ipad, and went to redownload the app only to discover that I’d have to pay another 15 bucks for the iphone version. Seriously?

Why does the iPhone version have mfi controller support but this more expensive version doesn’t? Once again Square Enix falls short of expectations. Great old games ruined by a lack of updates or at least long gaps between them. We mean come on! Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPGs of all time and it took like 6 months just to update it for retina screens let alone the fact that they allowed the game to have the worst virtual control pad in history and still no mfi support or universal version. Shame once again Square Enix, from someone who has spent thousands on Squaresoft/ Enix products since 1988. Please fire whomever is in charge of your mobile department because they have basically left millions of potential dollars on the table and walked away with people still begging to give more.

Those of you using this need to realize it is only meant for when you have to leave and come back…. As soon as you continue from a quicksave it is wiped away, so only true saves will save your progress if you should die.

A fantastic game from its release on, this new port (a DS copy) is worth every penny. For those of you idiots who don’t seem to understand how quicksaving works… As has been stated, it’s a temporary "pause" for those who have to do something (aka life) before returning. It is NOT an autosave. If memory serves us, only the very recent FFs have ever included the sort. The true saving is through normal means. Please understand how a simple mechanic works before you go off the deep end.

We love this game a lot. The graphics are crisp, the Helvetia font is good. The audio is also great but this game need auto battle due to grind sessions . Square we get that this is a port but you can still add something special , Square we know that you are busy but check back on the app games. The improvements are needed in this game. The reason why this is 5 star it is because this game is so great that all flaws don’t matter. Also people After the first boss wait until the credits end the game will start ok? But anyway these flaws are petty we think this game is still good we give this game a 9.9/10 (due to the bugs) this game is a MUST.

First game we bought above $5. There really is a difference with a game like this compared to an angry birds. This game is hours an hours of play, side quests, missions. Its not a game you beat in a couple days. Glad we finally caved in and bought it. It is our #1 game on our ipad now.

Very fun game! We like that the 4 characters stay with you the entire game, and that you are free to choose their classes (jobs) and change them, if you like, as the game progresses. Again, just so you all know, the game does NOT end after the early boss battle… You just have to watch the credits, and the game will resume… It’s actually a very long game. Secondly, you can save your game on the map, just not when you are in the dungeons or towns or castles… Save before you go in them.

We are an adult who played the original Zelda games on the original NES but never played Final Fantasy. This game is worth every penny! We think this could be enjoyed by kids 8 or 9 through adult. We have been playing it for about 3 weeks. There is so much content and it is high quality it is worth the price. Plus you can take it with you on the go with the Ipad instead of the old console and the controls are superb. Pretty easy. Great epic adventure game which you will spend a lot of time exploring different worlds. It also is not truly violent so it does not seem harmful for kids. Our kids enjoy following the story as well although it is too complicated for our 6 year old to play without much adult help. If she were a few years older she would be able to play this.

The save feature is not broken, at least not on ours. You can save at save points inside dungeons or anywhere outside.

Very Old School game with updated graphics hours and hours of FF fun. If you grew up with the NES and SNES Games you’ll find much pleasure in this JRPG classic. Very cool Job/Class System and huuuge over world. Hard to believe that this was originally a NES game.

It’s awesome you can hold 2 weapons we like the graphics and how you attack we would of never thought final fantasy is this cool.
