During Episode 3’s Day Off Arcade Puzzle, Hugo Shows Great

"Maybe Alice didn’t die, but her death was faked so that she and Hugo could be together.

Evidence:

  1. Alice and Hugo knew each other as children, and later they meet again once she’s hospitalized. They spent sometime catching up.

  2. During Episode 3’s Day Off arcade puzzle, Hugo shows great concern over Alice’s health when he finds out that Jason is using an experimental drug on her without her knowledge. Hugo was going to tell her personally.

  3. Alice’s writings show that her and Jason’s relationship is straining, as he spends more time in the lab. This makes her lonely and depressed.

  4. Despite regaining most of his memories by Episode 3, Jason didn’t even know that Alice was dead when he found her Death Certificate. This is either because he still had holes in his memory or that she was still alive when he put himself in the Gauntlet.

  5. In Hugo’s Cabin, there’s a neon sign that sometimes reads: "Keep him away from me!" This is unlikely meant for Hugo, as he has been nothing but kind to her. This only leaves Jason as the object of scorn.

  6. Finally, you get to talk to Alice in Episode 2, on the laptop.

And that final recording of Alice could be her taunting Jason, a sort revenge for putting her through everything, knowing that he will forget or die anyway.", ionryful says.

  • I want to know what happened. Am I really Jason? Is the voice really Jason? Where is Hugo? Why is Alice doing this to me? Is it for revenge, or is the whole story made up? Also why don’t I just leave the island once I get a running car?

  • I think hugo and alice are alive! i meant its kinda Obvious!

  • I’m so confused! Can someone give me a summary of what happened?

These comments might offer the help you need to breeze through each level.

kevin Zou: not to sure if i heard it correct
Person talking on cassette:How was that?
Alice:Perfect
Jason:Alice!

murphydh8: I think I’ve cracked this thing – bear with me.

Who is speaking on the cassette?
The voice always uses "we" and "you," never "I." "We" when speaking about GS3, "you" when speaking about Alice. Therefore, this is Hugo speaking to Jason.

What is the stated explanation?
"You’re still testing it." "We set this up." "We’re the rats – the rat and the scientist." Therefore, due to either pride (You’re still testing this and think you can work it out) or guilt (for what he did to Alice), "We" (Hugo and Jason) set up this gauntlet. You’re the rat, I’m the scientist. And for pride or guilt, you can keep going until you’re satisfied.

What is the twist?
"How was that? Perfect. click" The click comes after the final voices, so it is clearly part of the recording. Jason identifies the second voice as Alice. The inferences are that a) Alice was still alive and b) this Gauntlet was set up not by Jason and Hugo, as stated, but by Alice and Hugo. Alice’s death was then included to torment Jason and drive him to repeat the gauntlet or kill himself. Guilt.

Why would Alice and Hugo do this?
Cabin Escape and Episode 3 reveal a lot of Alice’s thinking. She’s likely out for revenge. Hugo could be upset at Jason for ruining their dream of figuring out GS3, upset at what he did to his friend Alice, or could be snatching Alice from Jason. Hugo is a little hazy.

Victoria Masina: I played Alice first, in the prequel Cabin Eacape. I came to dislike Jason and was mad at the beginning when I started Forever Lost. LOL :) I didn’t want to be him. And I was sad when I found Alice’s death certificate. In the end I took the red pill because I figured the blue one would just make Jason go through all of this again and again. What hell! Thank you so much, Appunwrapper, you’ve helped me a few times out with your walkthroughs when I was forever lost. :))))

enzmondo: I have a feeling Alice was literally holding him hostage at gunpoint and forced him to do all this as revenge.

kevin Zou: or that guy talking was Hugo and after he said How was that and Alice said perfect i think that part it wasn’t on the cassette

Rosanna Larsson: 4th episode?!

enzmondo: The question is why is Jason doing this to himself, following Alice’s orders, experimenting on himself? Probably guilt? He seems a bit too angry to be guilt.

enzmondo: Then we also know the fact that Hugo was also a part of the lab thing. He created the damn Legend of Zelda look-a-like app. So he helped. But what’s funny is that in that game app, Hugo was the one stuck in the game.

Icerope1199: See, Hugo was not credited for having a voice actor. Only Jason and Alice were. I think she must’ve forced Jason to record the tape for himself. As for Hugo…I’m thinking Jason killed him. Remember that one jumpscare in (I don’t remember if it was the second or third game) blood burst out on the bed? I think Jason killed him in the hotel room when he found out about the letter

Rosanna Larsson: Alice is still alive!!

Gabriele Trovato: "How was that?" "Perfect"
I think that it is a memory of Jason. The first is Jason and the second is Alice. After doing the speech* Jason (and not Hugo) asked Alice "how was that?" and she answered "perfect".
*Alice, for revenge, forced Jason to say all these things and then she erased his memory.

Dミツル: Maybe this is what is going on in super m@rio brothers. Princess 🍑 and koopa are teaming up together to use M@rio as experiment. They stage her kidnapping over and over assigning him with different quests. Remember the ending of nes m@rio. She says “we will prepare you a new quest”. Same as this, Alice and Hugo Simms are doing experiment on Jason.

Erika Palma: excellent !

Ashley Shepherd: I took the red pill and the same thing happens
