We had a Sega Genesis when we were 12 as well as Sonic The Hedgehog. We had this game as well we enjoyed both of them we even had the game gear port of it. 28 years later SEGA has ported all of their rich games to the iPhone and now we get to relive our childhood. Despite the ads it is great to relive our childhoods we guess SEGA still does what Nintendont.

This is still our favorite since sega in the 90s.

This was the only retro game we’ve beaten without using an emulator, just us playing the Genesis version, getting Chaser and Lightning and destroying everything, and now that we have this on our phone, we can get better at the game!!!

We mean the game is good but us and our sister wanted to play together but we cant since we are on different Wi-Fi so can you put something like a online thing where you dont need to be on the same Wi-Fi?

This game needed local multiplayer that was an original feature that should be implemented and the touch screen controls leave a lot to be desired there should be some type of swipe mechanic only playable with a controller.

We have the paid version from having bought the prior release. The game claims to allow local saves, but there is no option anywhere to turn this on. Their Game Center integration is 100% broken and will not cloud save either. Screen controls are poor quality.

Would like a full screen instead of a mini picture in our phone .. Get with the times .. Wish we could get our $2 back.

This game is fun and frantic and we love it. We see now why so many people adore this game and it is definitely one of our favorite genesis games.

The game is great but it wont allow us to play multiplayer we are indeed on the same WiFi but still and it gives us the same code even when we deleted the app still same code we need major help here.

We downloaded the game and press 1p and it did not respond we even went of and went back we just wanted to play our childhood game.

YIKES, Sega. First of all, Gunstar Heroes is one of our all-time favorite games. When we discovered that it was available for our brand new iPad Mini 5? We were ECSTATIC. We bought an 8BitDo controller for a retro experience, downloaded the game and prepared feel like a kid again. Only to have the game run like garbage. Constant stuttering, poor support for our controller, it really just bummed us out. We even paid the $2 to unlock it from ads and we still got ads for other Sega titles. These issues dont seem to be limited to just this title, either. We downloaded pretty much every Sega Forever title and they all run poorly. Im very sad. Very disappointed. Asking for a refund on our purchase from Apple.

An ad pops up in the middle of the screen while youre playing AND YOU CANT CLOSE IT. This is unplayable….

We paid for the non ad version and it still has ads for SEGA games that block our view when we play. We cant see the enemies on the bottom of the screen. Truly a bummer because we really love Gunstar Heroes and wish we could play it again but we lost our GBA long ago and now this version is driving us crazy cuz we cant see the enemies. Terrible AD placement.

Our friend and we are trying to play right next to each other, IT SHOULD WORK, RIGHT?

Its the 1993 Genesis game, Gunstar Heroes just the way you remember it. Personally, this is one of our favorite Genesis games. The different character and weapon combinations make it so that no player will experience the game in the same way as another player. The game itself is a side scrolling run and gun. The stages are very fun to play through in all their 16-Bit glory and most have several bosses. The gameplay is smooth, the game is emulated very well and includes save slots and a rewind feature. The touchscreen controls worked fine for us, however If you prefer actual buttons, controllers are supported. We recommend this game, even to new players who werent born in the Genesis era. After all, its free and youve got nothing to lose.

This game brings happy memories to us , hope streets of rage can come back even though we have for our ps4 and mac.

This is too hard and the auto save is terrible but it is pretty fun just we wish that you could go back and change your gun.

We know this is way off topic but we just love treasure games, and we would really appreciate it if you brought Alien Solider to the store! We’ve always played gunstar superheroes on our gameboy advance and getting the chance to play the classic on our iPhone is just great! But its a bummer that alien soldier isnt up here anywhere.. But hey, at least there is gunstar heroes!

Great game but we came to ask, which controllers are compatible for the Sega Forever collection? We know that for Sonic that 8-bit dos gamepad is fine, but Im talking console controllers. Which ones are compatible? Also, can we use those controllers for three button ABC SEGA games? Please reply ASAP. Thanks!

We are using a SteelSeries Nimbus on an iPad Pro 2018 running iOS 12.2 and the controller support is poorly thought out. The B button is used to fire the weapon, but it also activates the rewind feature when you hold the B button down for more than 3 seconds. The fact that the rewind feature is actually set to R2 in the control settings makes no difference and the R2 button actually does nothing. As is, this game is unplayable on a controller. Also, you are unable to select the Menu button located in the middle of the controller for pause and are forced to use one of the other buttons on the controller. Pause is set to the Y button by default. We’ve noticed the same button issue in other games by Sega. The MFi controller support needs to be overhauled. If Sega can fix these issues this would make playing these games much more enjoyable and Id likely purchase all of them since they bring back memories. But with the poor MFi controller support we cant bring myself to actually buy these games for now.

A great game single player, just like the original. But multiplayer doesn’t work. It says either "invalid room" or if you can get past that part, the screen is just stuck on displaying the black before title screen. Like "sega" doesn’t even appear. The whole reason we bought this game was to play multi player with our brother. Very disappointing!

Doesnt work on iPad mini 2, just black screen with buttons after pressing Start.

This game is one of the greatest games from when we were younger. We’ve been waiting so long for them to update it and here it is once again. Its so great to see this game and many other classics on the App Store, definitely a game you need to try!

Been waiting for upgrade. Great game play. Now just waiting for golden axe 3.

Another fantastic classic revitalized. Shinobi 3 please!

We love play this on our phone but can we have a full screen mode feature too please.

Treasure has literally never made a game that isnt 5 stars. The only thing making this app 4 stars is the controls. Touch controls are notoriously bad for platformers. Run n gun makes it worse. Other than that, its a treasure game and its free. No brainer.

Game runs great on our iPhone. We love all these classics! Our only suggestion would be for Shining Force to come back to the App Store. It used to be on here so it shouldn’t be too difficult to release right? :) thanks! PS we won’t ask for the second game since it’s lengthy and may be hard to port.

This is amazing. Our childhood on our screen!! Only thing is that we cant save! When we click sign in it just loads and wont allow us to sign in. We cant lose our game so we keep having to restart.

Play the original. This game on a cell phone with onscreen controls is terrible (like all game that need you to have your thumbs cover 1/3rd of the screen). We were crushed by the giant broccoli! Even the previous cell release had better controls. As does the AT Games hand held Genesis (w/SD ability), or any other number of ways to play it. This game needs a real controller on a real screen. Period.

One of our all time favorite games on the Genesis. Thanks for the app Sega!

Great two player action. Get this.

Great throwback sega game used to have it on our sega counsel, wish they had more of the old games like Jurassic Park, tailspin or even the old Xmen game.

Just need’s iPad support…a D-pad or joystick option, with (customization) i.e.. To be able to place each control to our liking, also a minimize/maximize option as well, buttons are a little on the big size. THIS WILL PROBABLY FALL ON DEAF EARS,I DON’T SEE MUCH OF ANY REVAMPING OF YOUR ‘OLD CLASSIC’S’ BEING UPDATED.. DON’T KNOW WHY,YOU GUYS HAVE A LOT OF FAITHFUL CONSUMER’S IN THE ‘STATE’S’. IOS IS THE FUTURE,YOU SHOULD REALLY THINK ABOUT IT. THANK YOU.

Its not compatable on the iphone 5.

Simply amazing. Just as it was on the genesis. If you missed out back in the day, nows your chance to catch up with this classic. Very responsive with no slow down at all. Well worth the download!

A great and fun game but could use a bit more levels they should make more games like this.

And one of the buttons is not even used at all in the game but all in all it’s a classic game :DDD.

Back in the day we played this game a lot! And this time around it was just as fun, and adapted as well as it could be for IOS.

The iOS version of this game is so underrated that it’s stupid. The real version of this game is so minuscule u would have to know a sega fanboy to even really know what it is. First of all to people who don’t know what this games is it is a 2-D multiplayer shootem up complete with iconic, interesting, and entertaining boss fights and levels. The game has a solid amount of replay ability, with 5 huge levels and 4 difficultys. Now for the controls. They were ok but probably the best they can possibly be. We reccomend using the accelerometer. Dont get us wrong this game is VERY hard. Even on easy. But luckily the iOS version of this game includes saving so unlike in the original u want have to start over as soon as u turn the game off. This game is very good and we suggest that u pick it up while it is .99 we can reccomend this game to fans of the original, platforming fans and hardcore gamers. This game again, is difficult and not for the faint of heart. Prepare to play a game with, strategy, action, and some frustrating moments. But do not worry the game is good enough to make up for that.

Touch controls make it so you cant see anything. We shouldnt have expected anything different but honestly our thumbs cover all the action and its impossible to tell whats going on. Impossible to play.
