A Glimpse into Heroes of Steel RPG

Try the Free Demo Prologue – Escape Red Hill Dungeon and enjoy hours of turn-based tactical RPG. Each of the 4 Story Episodes after the Demo costs $1 and contains 30-40 hours of epic RPG story. Purchase the entire story for $3.99 (all 4 Episodes).

Command your party of four heroes as they fight to protect the last remnants of humanity. Born in a time of warring gods and dark powers, your four unlikely heroes embark on a grim journey set in the sprawling and immense post-apocalyptic medieval world of Steel.

It is the dawn of the Seventy First Year after the world has fallen. Four of the Thirteen Gods rose up against their creator, the All-Father, and destroyed him in a cataclysmic event. In the following years of darkness and ruin, the kingdoms of man fell in war and flame. In the final days before all was lost, under the guidance of an ancient order of druids, the survivors retreated to a mysterious underground labyrinth; the Underdeep. Now, in the Underdeep, the last remnants of humanity are scratching out a living and trying to rebuild a society, but are quickly discovering that evil has followed them beneath the surface.

Heroes of Steel is a tactical turn-based RPG in which you lead a group of four unique characters, each with their own talents, special powers, and abilities on their quest through the world of Steel. Engage in tactical combat with the ferocious, devious, and magical enemies who threaten humanity’s last settlements. You must decide how to develop each character’s individual strategy in order to build a powerful and dynamic team capable of triumphing over the impossible odds. As you traverse the sprawling world of Steel, your party will face a myriad of challenges, battles, extensive mazes and fearsome enemies of all varieties.

Savor full character customization, deciding how to increase your attributes, skills, and powerful talents. Equip each of your characters with a variety of weapons, armor, and up to three mundane or magical accessories. As your party explores the dungeons, cities and crypts of the world, you will decide the overall strategy and approach your team takes. Choose between hundreds of levels of talents and thousands of combinations of equipment.

Our indie role playing games dev team is actively continuing development to make this the top RPG. We are very receptive to feedback to help Heroes be the best RPG it can be.

With full control of every turn and aspect of your four characters, you can plan every turn with exacting control. Heroes was made for fans of adventure RPGs, board games, and roguelikes. If you enjoy strategy games or tactical RPGs, you will enjoy this classic RPG.

User Reviews on Heroes of Steel RPG

Looking for more information? Read a comprehensive review of Heroes of Steel RPG below:

The game is a great value. Its not play to win at all. You only pay for added content, about $10 all in. If you like optimizing your characters and having lots of options this is the RPG for you. Just when you think you have it all figured out, there are new surprising combat challenges. Highly recommended.

Im a longtime fan of SRPG/TRPG so lately Im on a kick of trying out different ones on mobile. This is one of the best we’ve found, and Im definitely buying the full version.

We played the game all the way through and it was exactly what we were looking for. We well developed story that unfolded as you make critical decisions that impact the outcome of game. There are limited characters to pick from but different ways to build your team. The developers even help fix bugged games Incase you encounter any.

Played game but when we went into the final boss gate in the glacier, the game quits and now it quits on start up. We would rate it as 4 or 5 but now a two as we cannot finish game.

Im not joining Facebook to play a game. What a stupid restriction. Do you know Facebook isnt safe? Do you not read the news?

We play to kill time on the easy level. First and second segments are fine. After level 30 we do not recommend playing. Null /void hits often go 9 or 10 out of 11 or 12 possible attacks. Basically a bunch of children with coprlithic grey matter playing dysfunctional algorithmic statistical idiocy while sucking vacuum.

Love the game just wish we could play fullscreen on our iphone x.

Truly excellent RPG with thoughtful and challenging combat rather than twitch-based. Great story, loads of regions to explore, and engaging characters. On top of that, check out the Trese Brothers site to see the incredible level of support they give their customers. Clearly, a game by people who love this style of gaming, and love their work. Will be looking to venture into their other offerings!

We probably would give this a 3 based upon the gameplay itself, but knowing and loving the genre for 30 years and seeing something like this on an iPhone for this price pushes it up a notch. We will support this game in its entirety and hope the devs make a sequel with some major improvements as we outline below in the negative section. Positives: If you are a classic Mac rpg fan and loved playing spiderweb games or Cythera from Ambrosia, you will appreciate this game. Very inexpensive for 20+ hours per chapter (but see negatives regarding length below) Not a lot of random unrewarding quests taking you back and forth to an area multiple times so far. Combat often requires thought and planning… Absolutely love that. This is not a hack and slash game. Negatives: Long and small printed dialogue Long combat sessions from the beginning of the game. It can get boring Trigger area is huge. You will have enemies from very far away coming at you for ages. Again, takes forever, gets repetitive and boring. The 20+ hours for each chapter seems more related to long dialogue, long combat sessions and far/hypersensitive enemy triggering. Its not the exploring or amazing storyline which requires 20 hours. Its the constant combat at every turn and 15 enemies that take forever to get to you that causes the game to be so long. They arent adding value in this regard, sadly. Confusing inventory and equip system Complicated leveling/skill system Needs a world map where you can see labeled cities/towns youve already explored. For 20+ hours per chapter, you are going to forget names of cities, etc. Loot is very repetitive and there doesnt seem to be a large variety of gear or weapons. Expect to keep the same weapon/gear for many levels and hours. We’ve yet to find any amazing equip or weapons except as a reward for completing part 1 of chapter 1. Chapter 1 part 2 had nothing valuable at all and the RNG on weapons or gear in chests seems to be basic stuff only. Nothing epic or legendary at all has been found in crates (not that this game has those classifications at all which is a shame, but you know epic or legendary items when you see them) and we are now in chapter 2. The mage blows through SP way too fast. We completely understand that mages are going to use more spell power than a warrior, but a mage can blow through all of their SP in one relatively average battle. Thats a little excessive. HP potions seem irrelevant. With a priest on board there are very few times we need to use them. SP potions are the one and only thing we stock up on. Seems like this should be more balanced since we find about 50/50 SP and AP potions in most chests. Neutral: we’ve not explored the crafting system yet and will need to spend some time online reading more about it as the in game information isnt very informative or helpful for us. We love when devs create unlimited possibilities for builds and teams. However, we feel this game has very little information in game to try and figure that out. We feel like we need to have a skill/build guide more so than in other classic rpgs. Sure there is always going to be forums dedicated to perfecting builds and teams, but we feel this game requires one to consult them out of the gate or get lost in the dust. Our warrior for example is pumping the basics such as sword and strength and does less damage than our mage by 1/5. Somethings wrong with that picture. Maybe the devs prefer meat shield warriors that do relatively less damage than others. Im more of a warrior who goes in and does the most damage and also takes the most damage kind of player. With our support team buffing or healing us and being more strategic with our weak archers, mages and priests. Why is our mage the best on our team when we didnt allocate our skills that way? Anyway, best of luck to the devs. This could be a beautiful game for the future, but it needs a lot of work. And, we would pay premium App Store rates for a much improved sequel.

We absolutely love this game, the tactical combat is very satisfying and the story is surprisingly well put together. The only reason we don’t give 5 stars is that we have ran into a couple glitches ( still stuck in the necromancer sanctuary patiently waiting for a patch to come to the App Store for 2 months). Never the less the game is so fun we didn’t mind starting over with new characters. Bottom line is the game is awesome, yes there can be issues (might be waiting a little while on a patch) but at only $4 for 100 plus hours of gameplay you can’t go wrong. Keep up the great work Trese Brothers.

We wish we could play this game with friends. Each of us could be a class and fight our way through the evil together! If you add a good multiplayer we’ll buy the game!

This is just a demo but u can purchase the rest for very cheap and it well worth it buy it.

Once you pass the "tutorial area", which you’ll complete in your first couple hours of playing, it brings you to a screen where you must purchase the game by buying chapters of the game. There shouldn’t be a free option to this game, it is just a shady way of getting people to buy your game. One star for the Trese Brothers, go back to star traders where the Brother’s devotion and time should be. Don’t install this free version, as the only thing you’ll receive in return is disappointment.

This game never ceases to surprise us. It’s a simple to learn system that allows for, and demands, smart tactical decisions. The characters are all great and all play totally differently. And, the most amazing of all, these guys have never ever stopped building and improving and selling it for pennies. They are sincerely sharing their work of art and we appreciate the dedication and shared love of their game world.

This is a well made dungeon crawler/tactical rpg with a lot of depth and good story (so far). Sat on our phone for a long time before we’ve gotten to it and we were seriously impressed by the number and scope of the updates in terms of adding content. Far better than the comparable Warhammer title.

Addictive gameplay, exploring, fighting leveling.

We love this game. The story is interesting and the tactical combinations among the characters are great. We really enjoy organizing each ambush or blitz. We wish there were more games like this!

This is an amazing game. No major graphics(which real RPG’rs don’t care about anyway)but enough to tell who is who and what is what. Very intriguing story so far. Level 42 now. We purchased every add-on… For 5 dollars we think. Honestly didn’t need to. After trying the pay chars, we thought the standard chars were better suited to our tastes. We will be restarting another game with all the pay chars after we finish with the standard ones. If you like a good story, hugely diversified ability choices, and the ability to stop and start without having to be at a certain place or hit a certain button(and yes, if you walk away it will save exactly where you are, even in the middle of a battle), this game is a must try. Absolutely 5 stars!!! DEVS—Please make sure to release another update for episode 4soon. The storyline told us that we can’t get to the sea flats until then. Update– DEVS, please get rid of the little arrows below the group that allows them to change places. We keep hitting the buttons when we want to switch characters for AP use. It’s kind of aggravating. We don’t think anyone is going to be switching the positions every turn. Maybe a setting under options instead? Still a must have game!!!

The game is broken. Most moving actions now result in path not found which renders the game not playable.

Fun game with lots to do but latest rev is unplayable as characters can’t move to most spaces.

Choose a team of 4 heroes, build up their weapons, armor, talents over time and battle a variety of enemies over an amazing arc of 4 chapters. High replayability through customization of different heroes, and great guidance and support on their forums. Additional characters available through in-game upgrades ensures you will be able to play this game over time. And time after time.

We like the demo so far and considering buying some of the extensions, however we have Game Center off on our iPad and am annoyed with all the errors this game spits out because of that. If they had a way to turn off Game Center in the game, it would be much appreciated. We couldn’t find that when looking in the settings.

Okay so we love this game and we’re on episode 2 only on easy and we’re still having a really hard time with fights. Currently we’re at 57 deaths on easy difficulty and it’s pretty hard for us. This game is really fun and challenges your brain to really think and we recommend you download it!

We are a loong time RPG fan from pen and paper days. We have been an avid fan of RPG computer gaming since we discovered Ultima 3-4? Played a sorta D&D without having to wait on, gather, wrangle, and herd your friends to get a couple hours play if you were lucky lol. The Infinity Engine games (Icewind Dale 1&2, Baldur’s Gate 1&2, can’t speak for Planescape – couldn’t get our copy to run years ago and haven’t played the GOG version yet..) particularly ID1&2 with their fully customizable party dynamics, spoke to us as the epitome of the genre due to their power to evoke the tabletop game. We’re writing to tell the people we have found a game, MOBILE no less, that evokes that tabletop, D&D-ish feel more strongly than ANYTHING we’ve played since, including our beloved Neverwinter Nights 1. NWN1 was and is as fantastic an RPG experience as it gets. All the fan created content kept that game alive and breathing long past it’s shelf date. But as much as we love that game, NWN1 had and has no party dynamics to speak of. In fact, the game was designed to PENALIZE character progression when played using more than one character. It split XP the more characters in your party, so we ended up with a fighter that took a few levels in thief and one in magic user that was all things in all situations, properly equipped. Heroes of Steel is not D&D based, but it is inspired by and more importantly for the fans of the genre out there, INSPIRES tabletop gaming more than any game we’ve played in YEARS, PC, mobile, or otherwise. For the price of entry, we can’t think of a game on the iPhone that has kept us more interested and engaged for literally dozens of hours. The in-app purchases are really more of a thank you to the devs for all their amazing work, and their continued work improving and iterating the game. We picked up the sorcerer character to slot in fore the vanilla Mage provided w the game, and he’s a BLAST to play, no pun initially intended. He’s a lightning specialist and gas this chain lightning attack that simply changes how you can okay the game. A Tank he’s not, but ohhh what an Artillery piece heh. We’ve been interacting w the lead dev for the past couple weeks, reporting bugs and feedback on the game. We love that they live their game as much as we do! Also, we love that they practically give this labor of love away whole, to get it in the hands of players and fans, and then provide a method by which to both thank the devs for their hard work (this game is worth MUCH more than they ask for it..) and to provide players new tactical options with which to destroy the minions of Eeevil with cackling glee LOOOL. If you are a casual or hardcore fan of RPG’s of any type, but this game and spend a little time getting to know it. The game is simple and intuitive on its face, but with time the options for deep tactics and character progression shine. We’re most of the way through the current content (I’m DESTROYING hordes of level 17 beasties and eeevil humans currently, with scripted scenarios that are getting smarter and more elegantly challenging as we progress..) and frankly can’t wait for the Trese Bros and their likely eeevil code minions to INSTANTLY make available their planned improvements and new content. Buy this game. Support these truly passionate and creative devs. Don’t let the top-down perspective stop you from purchasing this truly memorable experience. They do absolutely AMAZING things with artwork and animation and it may in fact ENHANCE a deep and challenging RPG experience you won’t soon forget. This is an update to show love for the devs and to show how STOKED we are for the new content. Update! Update! Update! Update! Update! Update!

This team of 2 brothers pumps out consistently fantastic games. This is our favorite of the bunch. The artwork is the only thing that gives away the fact that this game wasn’t produced by a huge studio with tons of cash. It does look a little "indie" but it doesn’t hurt the experience at all. It even kinda grew on us and gave this title its own feel and charm. Aside from the artwork, everything else is absolutely top notch. If you like tactical turn based RPGs, we think you’ll be very pleased here. And the first portion is free so you’ve got nothing to lose by trying it. If you like it, buy the rest. You’ll be glad you did and you can sleep well at night knowing you’re supporting one of the best indie developers around. These guys rock. We can’t wait to see what they do next.

Bought all four episodes but the 4rth episode won’t start, the quest for golla outlook won’t clear in the quest log, can’t complete storm brothers quest because the whole west side of the map is shut down not sure what else we can do…

AWESOME!! Great game with a great storyline!

The beginning is amazing but after that you have to pay money to play the rest still the best game we ever played with thrilling story, game play mechanics, and awesome turn by turn gameplay it is unlike every game we have ever played for the IPhone.

Really love this game BUT, the what’s new info dates July 28 doesn’t seem to have actually happened! Our game hasn’t updated, we can’t go back west from braeyshaulm, some red chests stayed red after the battles ended, we can’t get back to granthorn or riven field. The things listed would be great- if the update happened… We really really like this game – we never buy games, but after the prologue we had to have this one!! We are very glad we spent the $4, and WANT to keep playing, but we’re stuck. Can’t move forward, can’t go backward. Stuck please fix this so we can keep playing.

Doesn’t work on our iPad (4th Gen.) it kick us out the moment we click the game.

Trese brothers aren’t the average devs. They care about our opinions and ideas.. Crazy, right?

Need more detail and to add reive when someone die.

Great game and enjoyed the play until we were stuck in the Sanctuary cavern after the Great Seer Tower. Hope they come out with a fix or this was a waste.

How the title say. Finally we found a game like this.

Can’t believe they just added achievements! Game just keeps getting better! If you loved final fantasy, shining force or any tactics rpg this game is a Must!

Truly excellent and addictive turn-based RPG in the classic style. Great story, great characters, enormous talent tree allowing literally endless group build possibilities. Full version of the game is absolutely worth the money, as are the expansion characters. Trese Brothers is the best independent game company out there and they deserve your support!!

We were a bit afraid of the 2d cartoon-ish display, but this is a very good game. We have only played the prologue but so far it has rich storytelling and makes us want to purchase the rest. Give it a try if you like turn based strategy.

This game is a great way to pass time. It is simple to learn and the game play is smooth. We highly recommend getting this app! Loads of fun!

The Trese Brothers have a track record of excellent games and this one is no different. Excellent story, mechanical depth, and a ton of fun to boot. They always add higher difficulty levels for those of us that like a bit of pain with our pleasure. Constant support and updates, and they are quite interactive with their players on their boards.

From the 1st announcement Of this RPG, we knew the Trese Brothers would deliver as promised! We have played through Episode One and since the last update have dug into Episode Two. If this game is like all of the Trese Brothers App Games it will just continue to get better with time, why you may ask? They Perfect each and every game the release. They don’t release a App Game and forget about it Ever. Best RPG on App market period.

A great game. We have a few ideas that could add to the already great game -an addition of new weapon types -possible drops from fights -a technique for the warrior that hits more than one enemy in melee.

Superb RPG with easy controls, friendly user interface, and simple command functions. All with a rich story, game balanced AI, and fantastic graphics. Can’t get any better than this!

Just started playing and we love the tactics of the game. Very in depth. And the story is exciting, lots of twists.

Yo, this game is the bees knees, the cats pajamas, it’s the peanut butter to our jelly. We LOVE IT. Great game layout, weapon mechanics, and all around fun to play.

Maybe there is a good game here, but we were 20 minutes into the game and still hadn’t played at all. Wayyyyy too much backstory. No one cares about the grand baron blah blah blah of high argys etc. Especially not at the beginning of a game.

Okay, we don’t remember how we found this game, but we’re very impressed with it. It’s not perfect – oh no – but it does have a lot going for it, like appealing visuals, well-written characters, and a really interesting storyline. The combat does get tedious, with occasional breaks to describe something in the environment. But, a plus, the combat is HARD. We’re playing on normal, and we find one little slip up, and bang – Game Over. Tactically, the environments are diverse, and while the enemies only come in four real flavors (melee, ranged, magic and animal), they’re diverse, and a winning battle is as much putting Vraes, Tamilin, Kyera and Kjartan in the right place as it is getting your enemies to go where you want. Would we recommend this game? Yes, to old school RPGers. But you can always download Lite and see if it’s for you. It’s tough, and it’s rewarding.

Not one to write reviews but this game brings back old school memories with awesome graphics and captivating story line Thank you developers for continuing to enhance and add to this game Well worth the money!
