Description

Be the ball! Bowl around the richly imaginative six fantasy lanes of the original attraction game: the eerie Classic lane, ancient Rome, an idyllic Forest, rocking High Seas, the streets of San Francisco and the bright night lights of Tokyo.

In addition, this licensed remake features several all-new lanes: the Snowpark lane, the Campfire lane, the Penelope lane, the Mushroom lane, and the Grassy Pier.

Enjoy the scenery, but remember to head for the pins!

Swipe up along the screen to push the bowling ball forward, left and right to roll horizontally, down to push the ball back.

Tips: Sweep along the length of the screen for a more powerful push, and in Settings turn off in-app access to Control Center to avoid activating Control Center when swiping near the bottom of the screen)

Play 1-4 players in the original Arcade Mode or quick-play with your Game Center account, featuring a leaderboard for each lane and up to sixteen achievements for completing lanes, consecutive strikes and bowling a perfect game!

HyperBowl Reviews

Love this game. But is there any possible way that you can add all the different colors and patterns for the bowling balls that were on the pc and other platforms. Instead of there just being 3 that are pretty simple. Would really appreciate it since we dont have a pc anymore. Thanks.

Im 27 as of 2023, we grew up playing this on our old dell desktop from 2002, such nostalgia and love. Our father got us into this game, he passed away awhile ago, even just playing this makes us think of him.

This takes bowling in a weird and humorous direction. Yes, its challenging on the expert levels.

Used to play this game many years ago on PC and had a blast. As for the iOS app, Im happy to say that this port does the game justice. It runs smoothly and its touch-based controls work very well.

We remember playing this via the Plus! Version and later the Arcade Edition port. Seeing it on the App Store recreated with Unity is a real treat. The game is great, but it could be subtly improved with some tweaks. Id suggest adding in a future update 1. A host of iPad related fixes. Add trackpad and keyboard support (it has been made possible with iPadOS 14 to implement this in games) and 120FPS mode for iPad Pros. 2. Add dynamic shadows on more maps like San Francisco and Tokyo. 3. Tweak High Seas. The original game had strong rocking on the ship, but this port tones it down to the point where it rarely ever helps or hinders you. Theres also a strange bumpy part of the ship that wasnt present in the original but can really screw up a shot at the pins. Theres also a bug where trying to review the game within the app makes the text in the popup review window invisible.

First off, we cant believe this game is free and contains no ads. We would have easily paid money for this game. The ball seems a little slower than we remember, but doesnt really affect our enjoyment. We found this by accident and was super nostalgic for us.

Needs an Android update. No longer works on the platform.

Review updated from 3* to 4* due to: DEVELOPER RESPONSE on 12/10/2020… That is the kind of {necessary} info the game needed in a history/controls tutorial section of the app; just one or two panels more of info will suffice like this: … The game is an authentic port from a Sony Metreon arcade attraction in the 1990s using a traditional {bowling ball as a} trackball. The controls mimic the push/action of scrolling a trackball by scrolling the {imaginary} bowling ball/trackball by sliding your finger up-the-screen. Note: The bowling ball can be pushed multiple times to change direction and/or speed while rolling. Enjoy this authentic arcade port featuring the original arcade graphics from 1999. Thank you for the history on the game. PREVIOUS REVIEW 12/09/2020: (3-Stars) Simple enough game. Controls are intriguing… Scored 109 in our first game not knowing what we were doing. Could have a better introductory tutorial on controls.

How do you open the two additional lanes? We are playing in an IPad.

We like this game but we cant say it is our favorite. It is very tricky but fun. We love to overcome obstacles and this game has obstacles. It can be nerve racking when l play this against another player but l like competing. Sincerely ,Azja.

Why are developers writing games with no way to exit the game without doing a hard reset. Is it to get customers to order more? For us it is just steering us away from Apple.

We used to play Hyperbowl on our PC as a kid… Amazing as it was, we grew out of it but no longer could find the CD ROM recently to play it again. Last we played it was about 9 years ago. Im actually really happy there this game is now an app! Brings back many memories!

Not much else to say, great game, graphics were amazing at the time!

Fantastic game, amazing dev who updates the game constantly! We cannot recommend this enough!

Not that we’re unappreciative, but this game has to have the most frequent minor updates that we really don’t see on the surface.

We want our money back. You can’t get the ball to go faster than a snails pace and it has to be pushed all the way down. Save your money!

If you have ever played Hyperbowl at Dave-n-Busters, or any place else, you will enjoy this App. It is an excellent version of the game for the IPad user, and much easier on the arms.

As a fan of the original Hyperbowl we have been quite pleased with this port-everything in the original and a little more is here and it plays very well on our iPod Touch 4G with no frame rate or stability issues, but on a couple of stages-namely the snowpack-there are some scoring glitches, oftentimes it doesn’t give you the correct score for each shot. It also doesn’t tell you that you can’t get some achievements by bowling 3 strikes in a row if you only do it in the 10th frame. Other than that, no complaints, a near-perfect port of the arcade classic, all that’s missing is the bowling ball control. We only give it 4 stars because of the scoring issues on snowpack, we’ll give it 5 stars when/if it’s fixed.

We remember playing this at Jillian’s over a decade ago (before Dave & Busters bought it and gave us all the incentive to stop going to the arcade), and having a blast. Unfortunately, time hasn’t been kind to Hyperbowl. While we understand the need to cash-in on the whole "retro" craze, we’re disappointed that the developer/publisher chose not to update the woefully inadequate graphics textures and object geometry to provide a much-needed facelift. Graphics chips and CPUs are substantially better than they were when this games was originally created over a decade ago, and RAM is also dirt cheap (unless Apple’s providing it, but we digress…). Beef up the graphics, clean up the stray pixels, and produce some additional tables (free or .99 each) and sales of this game would likely increase dramatically.

When we were 3 we LOVED hyperbowl. But than when windows vista started in 2007 they had to discontinue the arcade edition. And than when we got our iPad and found this app while looking for a bowling app we were super excited. And then when we downloaded it,poop. It was nothing like it. Here are the things: 1. Tokyo vehicles. When we played on the Tokyo lane there were only cars on the bridge. And then when you go down to the city part it’s kind of weird how there are no cars there in the main big part of the lane and yet all the sounds are still there it’s just really unrealistic. 2. They added a new lane. Do you really need to add a new lane? We just think its rude to do that to a classic game. And if you want to add a new lane at least put some sound and effort to it. 3. San Francisco. Everything in this lane is horrible it is probably the worst lane in the game (well lets face it there all have no effort in them) the trolley cars are only going one direction and they don’t bounce whenever you crash into them (it’s the same thing with Tokyo cars) and the hill is way to hard to get up. 4. Scoring problems. PUT IN MORE EFFORT!!!!!!! -Zane kirk@kirkclyatt’s son.

It’s fantastic, brings lots of fun when playing.

A full five stars when we can get the ball to roll faster. We’ve seen others with the same issue and we’re confident this is being addressed. We love the graphics and it brings back lots of fun memories of working towards that perfect score – years ago. Still a great game, but just needs to move a bit faster. Looking forward to the update and thanks for keeping this game alive. Running on iPad II.

We Been Had HyperBowl on our Apple iPhone 4 32GB & we Love Playing The HyperBowl Game & we Hope you make it soon for The Apple iMac Computer? We Would Love to see it on The Apple Mac App Store Someday so we Enjoy Playing HyperBowl on our Apple iPhone 4 32GB & our Service is Verizon Wireless from your Costumer Byron.

Everyone is suggesting changes to this game… Which is over 10 years old and EXACTLY like the arcade original, (so get over it people). As for the freezing issue, we completely shut off our iPod Touch and rebooted and it’s never frozen up once since. The only APPLE related change we would make is to move the location of the PAUSE feature. It gets in the way of gameplay swiping of the ball. 5 stars from us otherwise.

It has so many bugs it freezes! And why only hd devices get Tokyo and San fransicso? Don’t you find that unfair if we all pay $2.99 for a game that freezes all the time, and you still don’t get tokyo and San fransicso? Fun at times…. But really freakin slow.

Nice concept game with nicely graphics/sounds, simple controls and Game Center support – 7 Leaderboards and 16 Achievements.

It’s just nice game to kill time. Graphics is good.

Entertaining game that we enjoy playing.

Needs to have some bugs fixed.

Its a funny game but sometimes the ball freezes and you have to restart.

LOVE this game! The graphics are fab, best one by far!

Best bowling app out there IMO. Well worth the price of admission.

We don’t know what that guy is talking about, but this runs perfectly on our iPhone original.

We never had the opportunity to play hyper bowl on the computer other than the displays at electronic stores. We have enjoyed the game greatly. The newest update adds another lane, which is very appreciated. We hope they will add the remaining two in the near future. Definitely worth the price for someone who likes bowling with a twist. For those who don’t know what hyper bowl is, it is bowling where you "are" the ball, the lanes are nonlinear, with pitfalls and unique paths, you roll the ball up to the pins and it rolls the last couple of feet. Love it, good graphics, fun bowling, would buy again.

This game has what we like: great graphics and engaging gameplay. We like how the different bowling courses work. Looking forward to more HyperBowling…

It’s fun, but it needs to be updated cuz there isn’t tokyo or San Francisco… Or any other lanes, all it has is the boat, forest, classic, and Rome…. There’s like 6 others. If it had all lanes, it would have 5 stars….

Hugely enjoyable game, well worth buying.

Really nice bowl. You never seen before..

Fun game with interesting control mechanics. The graphics could use a little more polish (I’m playing this on our iPad). All in all, we would recommend getting this game.

We like this collection of 4 different fantasy lanes: A few things are needed though. There is no shadow under the ball. At the smooth framerate, we know adding a shadow is a piece of cake. UPDATE: we HAVE A WIDGET VERSION OF THIS GAME. THE WIDGET VERSION FEATURES FULL SHADOWS, LIKE A BALL SHADOW AND PIN SHADOWS. COME ON GUYS, A WIDGET GAME LOOKS BETTER THAN AN IPAD GAME? Also, please bring the color in the icon to the icon on the springboard. The current black and white icon looks very generic. We also wish there was a mode where you can swipe the ball one time and steer it down the lane. Instead, you must keep swiping and swiping. We think both modes would be fun.

HyperBowl was one of the few bowling games we really enjoyed due to the way the physics worked. This version comes close to duplicating the PC version but needs several things added to improve it. First, there is no way to exit a game once started. It needs a menu option to save or end a game. Next, the graphics are slow. We have a 3GS iPhone and if a game runs slow on it, then it will be worse on previous generations of the iPhone. Another thing is that it appeared to us that the game configuration menu was missing even though you can select it. Maybe it’s working as designed but we couldn’t tell. Fix these things and it’ll be a much better game.
