Community Insight:
Good for spending time when youre bored.
Almost completely like 1e dnd.
The combat is satisfying, and retains a level of difficulty that makes quest-related fights really engaging (grinding is typically very easy, as it should be). The jokes are great, and the references are awesome. There is a character based off the Ecce Homo painting (look it up). For the first time with any app, we genuinely wish there were more stars to give.
Ive played for 30-45 minutes now and this game is so fun and addictive.
Its a pretty cool game with flairs of Dnd/Turn-base RPG style game, Its honestly one of the best mobile games we've played. No annoying popup ads either totally would recommend giving it a shot.
We know you have to watch ads sometimes but the game is legit fun. Best free game we've played in a while.
Having a blast since minute one! Awesome transfer to the phone.
Its great, and even without a tutorial its easy to understand.
This feels like a D&D game but you can choose what you want and choose what to focus on and with a five party group. You can choose what to select but some of the classes you find and makes the game more interesting. Yet the twist of the one who is across from the table aka the DM being the final boss was such a twist and well.. Theres one side quest that made us question about what just happened. If you know you know. Even so, GO CRAZY! But now were waiting for Knights of Pen and Paper 3 to arrive to mobile soon. Until then. Prepare for that.
Loved the first game just wish we gave it more time but now Im gonna be on this way more.
Its Grundy but fun it has good humor and we enjoy the story only reason its not a five is the packs you can buy but we understand.
Edit: anyone who likes this game we know a kinda similar game buts a dungeon crawler called doom depths from what we remember little to pay to win but its a hard game. As much as we love this game it has so much transactions to the point where its pay to win. We are pretty far in the game around level 18 and to even earn 5k we have to grind while everything is 15k+ for good gear. Not just that but the monsters for the main quest are supposed to be level 15 but they almost 1 shot every one of our character and they have 2-3K hp. This game is super good and we enjoyed it but because of how much the progress slowed down we just cant even play it and its not fun to grind the same low level enemy because the things that are supposed to be our level almost 2 shot us.
We have always been a fan of these games. Knights of Pen and Paper II is probably one of our personal favorite games that being said. It is an absolute shame how badly theyve monetized and positioned people in such a way that items in shop are several HUNDRED times more expensive then they were in the console games. We can understand needing to make money, but when you make it so blatantly honest that the only way to progress any amount without spending several dozen hours grinding away to unlock extremely basic items it leaves a bad taste in players mouth. Especially when this game came out a decade ago.
We recently bought the DLC for fist plus fury we were told that the Monk class will be unraveled throughout the story. We did the story three out of four of our characters are level 27+ when we did this theres no side quest in the monastery for us to unlock Monk. Ive looked at other forms and other places for information. It seems like either. We miss the boat on some thing we didnt quite get something that was needed. We miss click something maybe we dont know. Kind of feel a little jaded we wanted to play the month class. Is there something that we missed would love more clarifications on this.
So this game is simple and easy to understand. However the fact that quests will have you travel a very long way just to have 3 lines of dialogue and then a whole way back . All while it costing you MORE gold than youll make for said quest is infuriating game design. Make the quest costs worth it and then we may be able to look past the back tracking game design. We get that they want you to spend real money on this game and want you to convert diamond to gold but its poor game design and weak monetization.
Ill say, the game is fun. But all of our gripe comes from the insane amount of grind it takes to get anything. You will be spending hours killing the same 5 enemies over and over again, just to get simple things. Its just not worth the investment, sadly.
We played this game and the first one. We absolutely loved it on our Xbox. Only our Xbox. This version of the game is ramped up to insane difficulty compared to the other versions to push micro-transactions that became more macro then micro. Being that if you choose to not spend real money on a mobile game its an absolute grind to get anything done. (The other versions have grinds but not this bad.) Dont waste your time playing this on your phone. We loved the games originally but clearly the company needs to take a break and work on some better ideas. Cause this one was not it. Two stars because the other versions are actually pretty fun to play and we enjoyed them for what they are.
Our only complaint is more customization but we understand why there cant be.
We seldom write reviews, but certain ones deserve a little love. Firstly try this for a few minutes. We feel the game does a good job of speaking for itself. If youre a fan of retro games, or casual light hearted adventure game, give this one a shot. Games simple and fun and it feels like theres a high skill cap but Im not sure since Im still relatively new to it. Soundtracks awesome, and theres no intrusive ads Ive seen. You can watch ads for resources (and they actually make it worth your time.) and you dont even need to watch the full ad. Leveling, can be a bit grindy at times, but nothing new to the genre. All and all a great time killer and we enjoy it.
Honestly beat the entire game on Xbox but the mobile version is much more open and offers a higher damage scaling its really good time killer and a great adventure to replay.
Love the game! We do find the daily dungeon quite hard. But the main game and quest is amazing. The various builds you can make are also great.
This game is super fun 10/10 we just wish diamonds were a little easier to use obtain other than that it is very fun.
Havent talked to our gf for an hour.
No forced ads, f2p (not in the bad way) paying speeds up unlock progress, but isnt required, feels like a dnd session.
Its very fun and perfect for people who like TTRPs!!!!! It doesnt have the same races and stuff as most ttrpgs but it also has new stuff.
Its the one of the few mobile rpgs that are actually fun the way you gain new people for your party and it feels more like an actual rpg than most other mobile rpgs overall its a great mobile game.
Fun but sad that the original knights 2 store bought item wont pass over to new game.
This game is for people like us whom love dnd but cannot find a group or cannot cooperate with others. We love it for times we cant find a good game to play without working with others and lasts long but is the right level for us. The developers are the best for making it free.
We love the game its cool and all but it needs more races or classes cause why cant we have a mont colbolt.
Great game, has been since we first played it several years ago, only problem is we cant see half the top menu on iPhone, not sure which version but Ive got a black bar at the top where the camera is, and we cant see how much gold we have or one or two options.
This is an amazing game but some of the content is looked behind a pay wall that if you are patient enough can be avoided but it would take weeks.
We LOVE this game, we mean, thats all that really needs to be said, but youre still reading this, so we guess we should talk about a few of our gripes and why this isnt 5 stars, lets start off with some of the good? Its a fantastic classical adventure, with a funny and interesting story, we like the systems and the game looks REALLY clean, the biggest gripe we have is that there isnt really a way to grind for/farm diamonds, there used to be a way where you would force the game closed after beating the daily dungeon, but they patched that, and now the most you can get is 20 diamonds a day, when everything in the shop is 200-1000 diamonds? We feel like this unnecessary time gating in a single player game for this type a thing is a bit weird. Otherwise, great game, 8/10 do recommend, there are a couple other things, but its mostly just somewhat greedy devs tryna inch out as much money from you that they can.
We love the gameplay loop and grinding isnt extremely difficult, but its very pay to win and some of the screen effects are very bright or flashy and theres no way to limit them or turn them off.
The start of this game is great funny, interesting, creative, and well-structured. Late game clearly did not get the same attention. Later unlocked expeditions lack creativity. Late game is poorly balanced (too easy, some mechanisms are poorly designed). Dungeons become mind-numbingly easy and repetitive. It reached the point that fights that are supposed to be unwinnable are totally winnable off the game doesnt cut you off (looking at you, mountains of ascent paper knight fight in +). In some cases theres even straight-up typos and errors that appear late game. If late game was as good as early game this would be a masterpiece.
If they kept it like the original it would be amazing, but ads? Buzz kill.
Im not gonna lie if it was easier to get money or XP the game would be better, we find ourselves constantly needing to grind so hard all because we cant pay for more characters or pay to have the full edition and get the better gold and exp boosts that come with the upgrade. We know its cheap but not everyone can afford it especially at the moment. Great game otherwise, just be a little more considerate of Brokies like ourselves. We just wanna enjoy your great game without the endless grind.
Im unable to cancel the paper knight mission at steam flats. When we press the exclamation point it teleports us to steam flats no matter where Im at and the battle begins. Im not currently strong enough to beat it.
Temple of Broken Balance, final fight. You need to over level to advance past bosses. Leveling is super slow. You can also pay cash to fit your heroes out properly, so everything is a micro transaction. Pure greed with this update.
Love the game, but the progression is painfully slow compared to PC. It's pitiful in comparison. We would gladly change our review to a 5 star if we had the option to pay for what Steam has compared to this version… Because this hurts.
They make everything cost way to much in game and added a form of in game currency thats only accessible through real life currency. Half your characters are blocked off. It seems strongly like the creators of this didnt understand the appeal of the original game.
Took the game and made it horribly covered in micro transactions after making it delisted from its 4.99 cost.
Game overmonitized the pc version. Better off getting the original on steam for a fixed price on sale and a better gameplay experience.
- When deleting the game is clearly labeled in the files as F2P meaning this is a version different from what youd find on pc. 2. Combat is woefully unrewarding. -cant even buy armor or weapons beyond the basics after 20+ battles. 3. Threat rating is completely broken -you get crit far to often by enemys, your low HP low threat units get targeted often despite being 1% threat rating. Theres so many more problems.. Take our word for it as somebody who played the original. They clearly got predatory with this.
Entertaining, but late game combat introduces an awful random difficulty curve and multiple bugs. At lvl 30 there is an enemy called Attack Beaver that has a high crit chance and gets an extra attack each time it crits. This means that no character in the game can survive their attack if they get lucky (and they will). On top of that, if they kill a character via this crit chain then the game can soft lock and no one will ever get another turn, forcing you to restart. We discovered this in a quest fight where you have to fight 3 of them at once immediately after another fight. They killed our entire party except mage and soft locked the game with one enemy left right before the mages turn. We wouldnt spend any money on this. Play through the base content, then move on.
We just grinded this game for hours but we were forced to stop after a story mission forced us into lockpicking a chest that we didnt want to lockpick, causing a mimick to kill our entire party except for one meaning we have to grind to get enough gold for three characters. Our weakest lvl 2 mage survived and keeps dying but we cant do a party revive because she is goth.
It was fun until we encountered a slime that took a half an hour to kill and gave a pitiful amount of experience. The entire game is just not very balanced well and its clear why the developers did this, so they could make more money from charging players to speed up this ungodly slow game play. More dungeons and less pointless grinding, just tweak rewards for fights and it would probably be our favorite game on the App Store.
This game used to be amazing. Like really good. Then management changed, or they sold it to another company that butchered it. The reviews got so low. They changed it from a free game with a few purchases to a super Grindy pay to win cash grab. So what did they do since the game tanked and was now famous for being a cash grab? They just re-released it to try to erase all the negative reviews and made it cheaper with even more ads. Then in the game it asks you to leave a review. And hence why the current score is 4.7, but then go read the actual reviews and everyone says its trash. Essentially they found a loophole to erase their old low score by re releasing. Go check out the version upgrade history and youll see how it just starts at a later version than 1.0 lol.
So the ads and thought this would be a fun game, it would be without all the grinding you have to do to be able to play one mission, then back to grinding for 30 mins, everything cost money, to move to different towns and revive characters, and starting equipment costs around 30,000 when you get 150 tops per fight, its just sad.
Id rather spend a few dollars to not have ads to travel or for daily gifts etc. It just feels like advertising is ruining everytbing.
Lost our save files during their "transitions" but grinding early game seems easier now? Feel like im making alot more money faster than before, maybe im just more optimed with our wizard theift condition x2 combo rn… Who knows.
