  • "I fostered a lifelong love for the adventure genre, culminating in a Purple Tentacle tattoo (Day of the Tentacle, duh) on my upper left arm. So I’ll be playing Lamplight City, too. Trust." – Rock, Paper, Shotgun
  • "Overall, this game has a lot going for it, and I encourage you to check it out even if you’re not an adventure game buff." – Hey Poor Player

ABOUT THE GAME
The Gateway to Vespuccia, the City of Air and Light, Lamplight City – the thriving port city of New Bretagne is a beacon of progress and industrial advancement in the New World. Yet beneath the promises of a shining 19th-century future, the city rests upon foundations of poverty, class struggle, and crime.

For police detective turned private investigator Miles Fordham, Lamplight City’s shadowy corners are just part of the territory. But with his former partner constantly speaking to him from beyond the grave, his grip on sanity is slowly loosening. Can Miles find justice for his clients and track down his partner’s killer before his entire world comes apart?

Lamplight City is a detective adventure set in an alternate steampunk-ish "Victorian" past.

Lamplight City mobile Reviews

We work a super stressful day job and by the time we get home, we are completely drained. This game honestly gave us something to look forward to at the end of our day, to the point where we would wonder what clues we could have missed while we were at work. This was a nice reprieve from a pandemic hellscape and we really enjoyed every character and case. Thanks for the hours of fun!

We really enjoyed this game. We didn’t get a few of the puzzles, but overall it was a fun immersive game. We miss games like this.

Love it! Lots of objects/rooms to explore, witty dialogue, interesting mystery. This is our favorite type of game, but unfortunately we havent come across too many games like it in the App Store. We recommend this to anyone that likes story-driven adventure games without complicated puzzles to solve. Also there are days worth of gameplay, which we appreciated :)

We definitely got stuck a few times and it was frustrating when we messed up one small thing and couldnt finish the case her and there but the storyline was genuinely good. We wish this was a show ngl because the characters are well developed imo. If you like crime/detective narratives then we definitely recommend. (Definitely requires a solid amount of observation to get a good ending)

We were absolutely hooked from the beginning and for being so cheap, the game was much longer than we expected. If youre into detective games Id really recommend buying this one. We loved the storyline and suspense.

Amazing game. Excellent graphics. Reminiscent of the old Sierra games from the 90s PC. Easy to use UI.

Didnt like it at first as theres a TON of dialogue (twice as much as Thimbleweed Park or WOAM), and you cant pause it, so if you have someone talking to you in your home, it’ll cause issues Not too much gameplay, but where it differs, and where it grew on us, is that you really can pick which suspect to accuse and get it both wrong and right, as well as how to approach certain conversations, and that does change the game. Yeah, Id recommend it.

The majority of the player input in this game is in choosing dialog options. You do pick up and use items, but you dont really have a traditional inventory menu, or choose which items to use and when. For example, you may find a locked door, and later find the key, but to use the key youll just click the door again after getting the key. There arent many puzzles to solve, so its mostly dialog, and finding the clues to lead you to the right suspect. It is possible to accuse the wrong person and have them arrested, but with enough investigation it becomes clear who the right suspect is. The story was okay, but the gameplay left us feeling more like we had watched it than played it.

We loved this game until the last part (5) where it wouldnt let us access the fire to translate the piece of paper. So frustrating! Tried restarting but still didnt work.

We appreciate what they are trying to do, but we think this game misses its mark and gets bogged down in tedium. We love old style point and click adventure games, but this one has WAAAAY too much dialogue, and WAAAAY too many pointless hotspots that lead to more pointless dialogue. We also wish there was more of an inventory element. We had to put it down after a little while.

We love detective games, but this one was just too slow for us. We really tried to like it (since we paid $5 on it)… But the settings and characters are so plain and boring.

We cant believe we spent $5 on this. There is so much talking and hardly any playing, plus the graphics are terrible. It feels like a kids game except its SO BORING. We wish we could get our money back.

The atmosphere and setting are greatunfortunately the game consists simply of long winded conversations that have little bearing on the plot. There really is not any problem solving, just moving from irrelevant conversation to irrelevant conversation. Only about 20% of the dislogue is useful and of that, only about another 20% is interesting. Unfortunate as Im a big fan of other games by the makers and folks involved in producing it. Was hoping for a steam punk Gabriel Knightunfortunately got little more than a meandering script for a bad WB pilot.

We played this for maybe 30 minutes and found all of the social justice stuff to be exhausting. Perhaps thats appealing to some, but many of us play games to escape reality. This game was just rapid fire, one talking point after another, rinse and repeat. Loved the other games by this developer but the preaching in this one was too painful to continue. Also, more importantly, it was really boring – just a bunch of talking. Deleted already and totally regret paying for it. Lastly, this one shouldnt be listed as 12+. Many of the mature themes are wholly inappropriate for tweens/younger teens.

Theres already a point-and-click mystery series featuring a ghost sidekick. Im going to continue playing since the Metacritic reviews are so favorable, but for now Im perplexed at what seems a direct rip-off but with less compelling main characters.

Keep getting a scripting error when we try to proceed in the game during the early stages. Frustrating because we were really enjoying it up until then. Would not recommend purchasing this game until it gets updated.
