This chess game is great is going to help us a lot and new moves even though we hardly even knew how to play we feel like a chess master.
We are new to chess but have always wanted to play but never made the time. This app has taught us more than we expected to learn. Its challenging and instructive with feedback when we make a mistake. You can replay your incorrect moves after a game, which we find very helpful. Highly recommend!

You get what you pay for. Skip the free chess apps and get Dr Wolf. Fun, motivating and effective. Our 8 year old enjoys it just as much as we do.
We really like the teaching approach of this app, switching between lessons, actual play, and mistake training. We think the explanations of why a particular move is preferred are sometimes good but often not explained at all (although the explore feature helps a lot to play through the consequences of a move).
All the hallmarks of bad AI. Some fundamental mistakes in terms of referencing the wrong color/side etc.. Trying to be a coach but really more like a fifth graders technology project. Chess. Com is far better.
Game has some questionable moves.
We used to play chess many years ago and am relearning it and chess strategies. We find myself steadily improving playing Dr Wolf in conjunction with working with a book on fundamental chess strategy. We particularly like the way it reviews your mistakes with you.
Im 80 years old and have tried to learn chess countless times over the years. We’ve always given up frustrated and confused. The drawing of Dr. Wolf caught our eye on a recent stroll through the chess apps so we downloaded it. We’ve now completed 7 lessons with a game record of 3 wins, 3 draws and 0 losses. Im definitely satisfied with this user friendly style of teaching and recommend this app to all beginners. John.

In spite of our repeated mistakes the computer allows us to play and learn. On the rare occasions we win we are not sure it permitted us to win or we really learned.
Absolutely worth the money, especially for us as someone who had 0 chess knowledge going into it. Best feature is it gives you feedback on your moves & explains its own moves as you go. Appreciate the creators for introducing us to our new favorite pastime.

We started this app on our cell phone and became a subscriber after reaching the level where we needed more advanced tutoring. The cost for unlimited training is extremely low and to us, was a no brainer! Thank you for helping us with our training! We use it to help us keep our mind working properly. For someone with ADD that is a blessing!

We’ve tried every chess app available. At 90 we dont get around as well as we once did. Dr Wolf and the other three coaches seem so real and are super friendly and provide top instruction. While we have been playing on an off since Im 19 , we have never enjoyed chess so much as with this app. AIm now up to expert level but lose more then we win; but Ill keep at it. No question in our mind, we have improved our game . Highly recommend.
This is very hard but it helps me.
We’ve had the free version on our phone for years now. We learned that the only level worth playing is the highest which we believe is expert. Every level below that is sloppy, makes bad moves and doesnt follow theory or openings. Having never beat the highest level, we thought: we can learn something from this app. But within an hour of purchase, we canceled. The coaching is terrible. More than half the time it gives incorrect advice that isnt paying attention to position play at all. Okay to have free version set in highest setting. Our guess is rating is around 2000.
It’s amazing.. But after a while you need to pay to learn.
This is a very basic tutor. The reasons for its recommendations are not well explained during games and replay training. You cannot export games played as PGN to analyze in other programs.
We checked him, in the beginning or the game, which means he cant castle. Yet his Rook is out, but none of his pawns are moved. We cant believe he cheated. He also stole our opening move until he realized he couldnt win with it. It definitely remembers your moves, almost anticipates them, too. Not a real or fair match bc its with a computer and not a human that actually thinks.
Last game was played above strong beginner and we know the difference Last game was programmed to play above our level!
Thats all. Terrible graphics. Horrible engine.
Some of the moves the computer makes make no sense.
This is nothing but a gimmick and a flawed concept. Playing a game against a handicapped engine is definitely fun, but the main function is supposed to be coaching, where the program utterly fails. You are shown moves from previous games that you get to play, but it does not provide you any means to properly determine why the suggestion was made. When you try to explore from the point of reference, The engine does not necessarily play the appropriate moves, and the recommendations are often confusing, while a refutation of other ideas is not provided. The situation is further confounded by the program’s lack of basic functions to export games or positions as PGN, FEN, respectively. Do yourself a favor and get a chess graphical user interface that allows you to analyze games, enter variations, annotate the game, etc. If you want to improve your chess, you can own Chess Studio Pro by Giordano Vicoli for a fraction of the price you’d pay for one year of Dr. Wolf.
No ads! Love the free lessons and free game play. Decided to play chess again after 15* years and this app is a great teaching tool. Decided to subscribe to keep the lessons coming!

We’re one of those people that doesn’t pay for apps. There’s just too much out there that’s free. We love the lessons and the way it teaches you. 5 stars for free. We get it, other people gotta make money too. But you can find free apps and watch free YouTube videos with the same content.
This app has a problem. The pawns are allowed to capture pieces next to them instead of diagonally in front of them. Its really annoying. Thats not supposed to happen in chess. Please look into fixing this.
We really love how you can tap on pieces and they have guide lines too because we have trouble remembering that and we look forward to playing every day and that there are levels as well.
Great app for learning chess basics but how to we get above beginner difficulty?
We gotta say the AI or the scripting for Dr. Wolf’s persona is first rate , it’s really engaging and not repetitive. It drills down on your moves as if it’s thinking with you and that’s hard to create. It responds uniquely to every kind of scenario we’ve seen so far. This is our first five star review for any app!
You should do a multiplayer part tho where anyone can play anyone around the world , everything else really makes int great.

Dr. Wolf has good playing skills,and also the app offers coach assistance and it is only about fifty dollars for a membership and that is very great!
