Solid app, good training. The best program is the one you stick with, and the fun, simple presentation of this app will keep your attention.

Definitely helping us become a better chess player all around.
Im playing with this app for a couple of days, and although not a novice, we decided to begin with Basic lessons. The Duolingo-like system is pretty effective here. Its fairly straight forward and – different from a lot of discouraging other methods – the constant rewards help to keep learning. Should work great with kids. Dont like the monthly subscription. We would pay 20ish for a lifetime, but 70ish yearly seems very expensive… Thats why 4 stars.
We mean its a good app but we really dont like how you have to pay to learn things. Im not trying to be greedy, but we think you should be able to just have access or else we wont be able to learn how to play chess.
Simply if anyone kids or adults want to play chess at high level , they need coach to increase their level of understanding chess. Learning from Magnus is what anybody wants in this world in game of chess. This app by Magnus is the best.
Different than what we expected but great. We love how the games help to think ahead and think quickly. The only reason we have 4 stars and not five is that we would like to play a game of chess at the end of each level or a snippet of chess that incorporates the principles of that prior level.
We will play the shell game and we would be a box off on accident and they will count it as a mess up, when picking gender, it says non-binary which is pretty dumb, theres should only be two listed, there are rounds where we would be correct but still wrong because it wasnt the box that they wanted, we were asked to stalemate the AI, and we were wrong because it wasnt the one the game intended on. This game is fun but the whole lives thing with the hearts is stupid, we dont want to wait ten minutes because the game decided to mess us up and not give us three stars. It needs to be updated. Thank you.
Before our chess teacher didnt tell us about this app, Ill admit it, we didnt like chess hat much. But with this app you learn a lot, and it is really REALLY fun.
Excellent educational tool! It not only shows you what to do, it provides examples and challenges you to apply what you have learned in a friendly manner.
Comprehensive chess tutorial that is fun and engaging. We would like to see some of the exercises start with a non-timed option so that we newbies could wrap our heads around things like multiple Knight movements and single move Checkmate drills.
It’s super fun to play the progressively harder levels. Well constructed and fluid design. We’ve spent tons of time on this app and continue to spend more.
Wow! Theres not much more l can say! This app has truly inspired us to greater heights! We love this clean and modern way of learning chess! After about a 6 months of learning the strategies on this app l have gone from 900 elo to 1756 elo. Very well made lessons teaching tactics, strategy, and just plain logical thinking. Thanks!!
Addictive and fun! Love playing it!
This is a fantastic app. Omg. How did you guys come up with the game design and strategies. We are still on easy course and it is still challenging with the game exercises. We do daily sessions to relax and learn. We cant wait to do Hard levels and really improve our chess skills. The polish on this app is amazing. Thank you for creating it. This is one of best game subscriptions ever. Once we master this arena, then we will start playing on Magnuss other chess game app. We are learning rules that we didnt even know. Highly recommended app – even if you know chess. We thought we knew and we were wrong. Thank you for this app and service. Keep up the excellent work.

This is the most innovative and engaging way to learn chess we have ever encountered. We have tried several different chess apps to play and train, but this is easily the best one on the market! Amazing!
It doesnt have a way to contact developers. Thats why we are writing this here. We havent paid for anything in the app because we are just not interested in what it offers but we do want to be able to choose if we play as black or white and this is not an option, neither we see it to buy it or anything. We are willing to pay for the option to be able to choose what color to play without restrictions or any kind of limitations. We want to choose what color to play unlimited times. For the moment the game just starts giving us random color. Sometimes we have to play 3 or 4 times in a row as black when we wanted to play as white. Add this option please. Thanks and cheers for such great app!
We just got this app today and we’re really liking it so far , however , it does not show any opening scenarios for Black and only for White. You are solely learning only as if you’re playing as White it seems.
Rarely write reviews but this is a legitimately good app for learning chess and we would like to applaud the designers and programmers for putting together something that we find to be a benchmark for all training / learning apps to compare themselves against. Only knock is that the price point is very high for something that is used sparingly.
The best app for learning and training your chess skills! So simple to learn and entertaining.
We have lichess and Im not great at it so we had a pretty low rating number even though we’ve been playing for a while. After completing just the easy section on the magnus app, the way we thought about chess was completely changed and games that we would never have won before have become extremely easy to us. Our rating has already gone up over 200 points and it still on an upwards trend! Some of the games are a little bit weird in our opinion, but the lessons and the rajas riddles are very intuitive, interactive, and helpful!
Albeit we haven’t gotten that far yet.
Fun way to learn & train in chess.
We have always had an interest in chess, but have never known much more than the basic rules of the games. We’ve played around with other chess apps, but despite practicing, we wasnt getting any better. Finally, Im learning something! Way more than we ever thought there was to know. We’ve been so inspired in just three weeks of using the app, that we watched the entire 2018 Altibox Norway Chess Tournament live! Thank you for bridging the gap between our interest and our ability.

We really like this app. We like that it goes from complete beginner to really complex tactics so everyone can benefit. The one thing we wish it did though is this… We wish it annotated and emailed you the game annotation when you play Magnus. Its difficult to go back and analyze what we did right or wrong and get feed back from others especially since we often am playing on the go and may not have access to our own log book and certainly dont have Magnus memory lol overall though, we like it.
We like the app it promotes chess and teaches it for people that haven’t been familiar with chess before. It is especially helpful when kids want to learn chess. Experienced – high elo players don’t need this app which is expected. Then you ask why 4 stars? Well there is no Iphone X support and it does get frustrating when you are trying to click on a smaller screen. If the developers would update it for the Iphone X as well we would give this app 5 stars. Since the upcoming Iphone’s will also have a notch but a smaller one we don’t see why it shouldn’t be implemented.
Love the app, but its clear that there are still some bugs and improvements to roll out, and one of those (I think) is the basic pawn cabin fever. We like trying to three-star levels, and this one seems impossible to three-star. We can only get two stars, and it keeps making us think we’ve missed something in the level. But every time we replay it, its just the same. If this is a bug, then the next update should include a fix. If its not a bug, and Im just missing something, then let us know that Im dumb. Thanks!

We would absolutely recommend this app to anyone interested in chess. It really is a great app and it taught us so much about openings and tactics… Etc.. It really has it all. It made us a very strong player. Really is a game changer!!
Appeals to novices and experts alike.
We havent played a game of chess in almost 20 years and now this app has us obsessed with learning about it. Only thing is that when we make mistakes in the mini games and have no clue what we did wrong to not get 3 stars, we wish there was some hint guide or recap in the aftermath thats like Heres what happened and how to optimize that.
Highly recommend for anyone new to chess.
