A Glimpse into Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey

Help the adorable grim reapers Grimm and Rose defeat monsters, ghosts, evil bunnies and more using the power of words!

Letter Quest is a turn-based RPG where players attack monsters by spelling words. But be careful since the monsters fight back by creating different letter tiles such as poison, plague, stone, and whirlwind, or steal your health, heal themselves, use critical attacks, and much, much more!

Features:

● 40 stages, with 4 unique ways to play each one
● Five separate areas, each with unique art and music tracks
● Tons of upgrades, books, potions, special items and weapons to help you on your journey
● Over 30 monsters to fight
● Boss monsters with unique abilities
● 70 quests to complete
● Leaderboards – compete with your friends
● 50 Game Center achievements

Finding the game too difficult? Make sure to check out the upgrades store, especially the first 3 upgrade types – they increase your max health, increase the damage you do by spelling words, and decrease the amount of damage you take from monsters. Some players have been saying the game is too hard by around stage 10-15, but hadn’t purchased a single upgrade! So please visit the upgrades shop every once in a while to give Grimm and Rose a fighting chance!

We first found this game on the Nintendo Switch and fell in love with its unique gameplay. Im so glad to be able to play this game on other devices. Our only wish is to have the definitions of the words. Thanks for a great game!

We love this game. It combines traditional word play with unique and fun twists and challenges. We only wish there were more levels. We would pay for that. We finished the regular levels and am now enjoying the challenge of the expert levels.

We were looking for a word RPG game and found this, and its been extremely fun to play!

We used to have a similar PC game called Bookworm Adventures and this is the only app that comes close to that. So fun and so cute; challenging enough for adults, simple enough for children. We use this app in our homeschool routine and the kids love it. We do too. Wish theyd come back online and reintroduce ads for gems and more levels. Great game!

We have played this game for years and it is still one of our favorites!

We used play this game with iphone 6 now we are using iphone 11 but this app has not been updated, so resolution does not suit new phone! We really want play this game in perfectly.

We enjoyed this thoroughly. Our kids also enjoy – as each learned to read they started playing and loved it. But there hasnt been an update in forever. Add another level and Id gladly pay for it… Dlc is fair.

Inexpensive and fun. We wish there were more worlds/levels. Great for the brain and easy on the wallet.

We were always a Bookworm Adventures fan and bought Letter Quest on Steam a year or so ago. We really enjoy the game. We were pleased to see it available for iOS as well. Now we can take it with us wherever we go.

We love everything about this game! We have played it on and off for over 7 years now. There is only one major complaint and that is when you get to level 30… Well thats it. We mean come on! Its a word game in which the player chooses letters from a board of random letter tiles and you are telling us 30 levels was all the developers could muster? Games like these should theoretically be capable of continuing indefinitely – or at least past level 30!!! – because they are the simplest, most cut and dry, with infinite answer possibilities, etc. SO DISAPPOINTED because we loved what little game content there is.

Cute game where you fight monsters using words you create from a selection of 15 letters. As you progress, the difficulty increases, with certain monsters having restrictions on the words that cause damage (eg. They only take damage from words including the letter t), and with various tiles giving bonuses or penalties if used. In addition, there are lots of quests to complete (which will reward gems), and other achievements to achieve along the way. There are also lots of ways to customise your playstyle, with upgradeable books that give certain bonuses (eg. For words of 6+ letters), and with special upgrades that do things like tell you the damage of your word in advance. For a very reasonable price you can remove the adverts and unlock all content (you only need to pay once to get all the characters, weapons and tile sets – this is a little confusingly marked in-game). You can also, optionally, pay to double the gems you earn. Once unlocked, the different characters have slightly different stats, and the upgradeable weapons can give you further bonuses (eg. By making your consumable healing potions more effective). Although it is loosely story-based and so you can beat the game, there are still things to do once you have (for example, collecting the harder red stars to unlock a hidden end-game area). We own this game on Steam, and am excited to now also have it on our tablet. It is just as fun as we remember – and slightly more convenient to play on a touch-screen device.

We played through the game entirely on our old phone, but on our current 8+ one with updated iOS, it only takes up about 2/3 of the screen, pushed into a corner. We would love to play it again, but we dont think we really can with this issue.

We’ve been playing this game for years now and it really is one of our favorite word games. We just recently downloaded it again but the game doesnt fill our screen (iPhone 7 Plus). Id hate to see this game fall into the ranks of the forgotten and incompatible. Please keep it alive!

This game is great fun! So wonderful to find a really fun game that can be played without having to spend a gazillion dollars. We’ve played the game through a few times and Im still not bored with it.

Updated Nov 2018: STILL LOVE THIS GAME! Delightful game. We played a while back and ran out of levels. They added some new levels and the 4th star and we’re back. We’re just playing slowly because we will be sad when we complete the new challenges. Clean very pleasant graphics. So bright. And not too busy. Not too many special effects. Just an enjoyable and fun game. Great statistics too. Who knew we like 5 letter words that do NOT include the letter J.. !?

We play this OTG all of the time. Unfortunately, it hasnt been updated to match the Nintendo Switch version that we love dearly. This is one game, even after nearly a decade, we still return to and can enjoy without fail.

OH MY GOD DUNKEY NEEDS TO PLAY THIS, THIS IS AMAZING!

We got all the stars! Great game! We hope you put out more levels!

For us, its just plain fun with a bit of quick thinking and vocabulary knowledge thrown in! An expansion or updated version would be great!

We have really enjoyed this game so far! We wish there was a real incentive to buy the full game. With the exception of additional weapons, Im not sure. However, as a word of thanks, we might just do it anyway. One suggestion. Add more levels, have the availability of extra book slots, more powers weapons, and more quests! Otherwise, we love it!

For those loved Bookworm Adventures, you will find your fix with this game. Its our new favorite.

We’ve been looking for a game like bookworm adventures, but didnt find a comparable one until now. Unfortunately the game is a bit old and as such has not been updated in 3 years at the time of our review. We hope that changes, the only reason for the 4 stars is because the games resolution is wonky, it does not take up our full screen, there is a black bar on the right and bottom of the screen. We’ve tried it on a different generation iPhone, same issue. Otherwise, great game.

The hints that pop up at the bottom each time we start a turn do not stay up long enough for us to read them. Is it possible to set them to stay up longer, like 3 to 5 seconds instead of the 1/2 second they are set for now? Otherwise, we love the game!!

Great game! Needs more content.

We love this game but it renders so tiny on our screen now that we can barely see it.

We love this game! Its fun, engaging, and the lack of adverts is amazing for such a game. Our only issue is that we own a iPhone 8+. The screen doesnt fully fill up. Maybe its a glitch on our end. But it is slightly annoying to someone like us.

One of our all time favorite games, we’ve been coming back to for years. But suddenly the whole game is shifted to the left of the screen and the a 1/4 of the screen is a black space. It seems to have just happened, as we were playing yesterday and it was normal. We restarted our phone, we deleted and reinstalled the app, and its still all black on the right side. It would be really great to see this bug fixed. Though, we doubt developers will see this any time soon. Great game either way.

A great way to kill time and work on your scrabble skills!

We like the game but the help does not tell you what to do to beat the monsters. We have no idea what words are more powerful or what Im doing wrong. Other than that we love it but it gets frustrating!

Live the game, but there arent enough levels.

Please fix small screen issue on iPhone. Letter quest is a great game when its working correctly.

Its fun but they havent updated it for modern iPhones so the image is cut off on the left and the right half of the phone screen is black due to the image being off center. Seems like theyve abandoned this app yet are still collecting revenue for it.

Stupid copy of bookworm adventures Im not rating this.

We just purchased this game today to give it a whirl. Took the advice the developers made about upgrading health. It doesnt help. Got to level 10 and it didnt matter what words we made, there was no damage done to the enemy so we kept losing. Not worth it.

The game doesnt fill the screen anymore and playing is uncomfortable. Isnt compatible with the new iPhone updates.

Is it just us, or does this game not even fit into the iPhone screen correctly?

This game is our favorite! The characters are adorable, the challenges can be tough, overall a very entertaining game! We love it!

Excellent game! Can’t wait for updates.

We especially like that it isn’t filled with expensive micro transactions. They’re there, but they’re so cheap we were happy to support the devs.

We found this little game to be a ton of fun. After trying it out for a bit we did pay the couple bucks for the premium version. Totally worth it, even for the ad removal, plus you get extra content. We have not found it to be hard to earn gems enough to buy items without spending further money, but we suspect that may also depend on how good you are at spelling/vocabulary and utilizing bonuses. For us, a great find. Love it!

We love this game way too much! When we’re not playing it we’re thinking about playing it! Very addictive! We would have given 5 stars but it’s only problem is that it’s so hard to make money to buy stuff with. We had to delete it and re-download it so it would let us watch ads to get money. Of course when we did that it wiped out all our progress and we had to start over from scratch. Otherwise great game!

Love the concept and the game requires some word power, but beware. Some levels almost require purchases to beat and in level purchases dont work for the entire level. The cost also goes up after each purchase. Id rather play a game that gives us a fair chance using our own wits not one that requires us to line the pockets of the developer.

Are there only 5 levels? One of the goals is to kill 5 monsters but we only see 2? Or 3? When we do the level. We’ve done the same level 3 times again today and that task never says we’ve killed 5 monsters. So we’ve resigned myself to the notion we can spell like crazy. But we can’t figure out this game that seems to only have 5 levels.

This game is really good, but for us the small game on our iPhone X screen is a deal breaker. The developer responded and we appreciate that. We hope to play this game with iPhone X support.

A fun game to kill time, keeps you interested but energy runs out too quickly, and you should have options during an attack to purchase Health. Other than that, different from the usual word games and addictive.
