Magic Spellslingers Review

It really is just a digital magic the gathering game that functions pretty well . Have not dived that far into it but can definitely tell that they spent a orrery penny on developing it. Lets see if they can withstand the test of time.

Its super fast paced and plays smoothly.

For CCG veterans and new players alike! Spellslingers is a great, assessable way to play one of the worlds best card games: Magic the Gathering. Particularly if your a lapsed fan of the card game, Spellslingers is a great way to jump back in.

Very fun game to play and would recommend to others.

All magic fans should try this one!!

Its like magic met hearthstone. Simpler and quicker gameplay.

We have played this game for 4 months now and what makes us love it very much is that It isnt a pay to win game. No matter the level you are there isnt restriction to getting just any card you want. The thing people need to understand is they will NEED patience, because there is items required to craft cards. You can get up to 2-3 card packs a day just playing and doing quests. If there is cards you arent pulling from packs but really want, you craft them. Crafting requires being in a clan/alliance. You request crafting items then wait 8 hours to request again. You also get crafting items from duplicate cards, once you have two of a card type it becomes duplicate afterwards. The Game is difficult at times but in the end it is based on the skill and knowledge of the opponent. They might have more experience than you or they might have a better hand than you. Just breathe, it is a game and it can make us rage but we will always come back to this game. Practice, understand your cards, get use to planeswalkers play styles. You got this.

Mama is different but fun ex to learn.

Pretty authentic to the actual game.

This is a great new level of playing MTG, we love it!

As a long time mtg fan, this game is new refreshing way to play. Its taken over our phone lol. Would be great to have access to background audio while playing. Would rather listen to our music instead of game noise once in a while.

Familiar characters and mechanics repackaged into a new fast-paced casual gameplay. Worth a try if you like card games and especially if you are lacking for a lot of time.

Can pretty easily compete in Gold+ as F2P after a few weeks of unlocking rares. Our only complaint is that the cards dont look like cards; we dont love that hearthstone look. Fun game!

Very fun kick back and relax game Love the tcg and this game blends new age with the old school cards love it!

We’ve been playing this since it it released in August of 22. Its the first digital ccg thats kept our attention for that long in a looong time. Last time was the initial release of Hearthstone. This is better. We spent a minimal amount when we first started and at this point have a full collection and many, many foils. The card art is amazing and the gameplay is even better. Would highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of tcgs. Our only complaint is that you have to play through the tutorial to get to ranked and the announcer guy is so annoying we almost quit there. Do yourself a favor and try it out just make sure to stick it out past the initial training. Its a very rewarding game.

We love magic the gathering thank you so much wizards of the coast for 30 years of magic the gathering god bless you all.

So we started the game assuming itll be one where u eventually need to spend money. THAT IS GENUINLY NOT THE CASE AT ALL. We got to the highest rank and havent spent a dime so far the game is really well balanced and theres a lot different types of strategies its rlly fun.

Lets face it magic the gathering is the best card game out there. We have delved and invested into all of them heavily. Hearthstone, pokemon, Yugioh, Magic, etc etc. The art and lore of magic the gathering along with the competitiveness and mechanics make it far superior to any other. HOWEVER (and this is a big however) as a 32 year old father and husband we dont always have the time or money to enjoy mtg arena or fnm. So we often find myself mindlessly playing hearthstone. Im glad its there it is great for what it is. But a simplified version of magic for phones fills a niche we think many will enjoy. The tutorial is a bit long prior to providing freedom which makes sense as people of all ages will be downloading this. But good job and keep up the good work Wizards. We love you.

Very simple to learn bc its heartstone but easy.

Pretty good for a card game gonna learn how to create decks after that maybe itll be better.

Spellslingers brings a much more casual look to the traditional magic standpoint and we for one love it.

Its fast matches but very strategic we recommend this game!!!

This is a great and fun twist on magic. Our kids love it too! Its been fun introducing them to the characters that we have loved for so long. Great game!!

Only problem we have is that we cant have audio playing in the background when the game is open.

We actually like this game a lot. We are able to play fairly well without spending money and no ads!! But the theatrics between games is a huge time eater. We dont have a lot of time to play as it is. We looked through settings and there is no way to turn them off. If we were in need of a show, we could watch tv. If they made it to where we could turn the excess animations off, then we would give you the 5th star.

We like the Idea of a smaller, more vibrant, character filled version of a well established card game; it gets us better acquainted to the mechanics of the full game or at least its something to do when Im bored. It reminds us of what Duel Links did for Yu-go-oh, and Im still paying that wish we could play sideways tho. Also, Im a big advocate for more skip options for dialogue.

Great game we think its really fun but they need to fix it by updating it more often. Even on the App Store right now the update info it incorrect. They just start putting some more care and energy into the game it will do great and be 5 star game.

The games fun and fairly easy to learn. Shares a lot in common with the card game.

The animations take too long, spellslingers shouldnt take longer than a standard MTGA match, but most of the times it doeswith less strategy or skill. You will run up against people who will out wallet you. The special land that certain builds are reliant on cost 1500 to craft. Thats not happening for FTP for a very long time. At that point youve played 100s of 10-15 boring matches.

Thats very frustrating that the mechanics to attack all is to double tap and you end up pressing that button. Fix it, please. Gotta get back to the game Im losing now.

CCGs are a saturated and competitive market today, and while its fun to have a simpler and faster phone-fitting MTG, Spellslingers will likely never have the support it needs to thrive. We just started playing last week and have had good matchmaking vs other new players, but its clear from reviews that balance issues are a coming with higher ranks. With the slow build of resources we can see how it would be very difficult to even put together a deck requiring even a few mythics and epics. After 25+ games we have almost no crafting resources. CCGs also want a healthy community, and you wont find many sites or resources to improve your game. SSs Reddit community is just about 2k (vs 267k for Arena). This product is positioned to compete with itself (Arena) and with juggernauts like Hearthstone. If it were exceptionally executed it would stand a chance, but it plays like a product getting second-rate attention from the devs. So how does Spellslingers play? + Fast paced and fun games <8mins + Simplified battlefield vs MTG + Intuitive & tame enough for kids age 8+ – Laborious attack animations – Amateur character animation & voice – Random graphic glitches – UI is busy and shoddy Overall its a good concept that was too late to market. SS isnt giving players enough value and quality to migrate from other games. Fun to pick up and play for a few days, but we dont want to invest much into a CCG if its at risk of disappearing from the market. MTGs metaverse has every reason to compete with Marvel, Blizzard, and LoL, but this too-little-too-late rendition isnt polished enough to help elevate our favorite Planeswalkers from the JV squad.

Honestly the tutorial is so mind numbing we would have not bothered if we werent playing with a friend. There are several times where it seems like the tutorial is over and then you get control of the game yanked away again. Otherwise we have no complaints thus far!

We love the universe of Magic the Gathering, but we’ve never liked any of the direct ports of the paper game to digital form. They either cut too much out, or are overly clunky. But Spellslingers is the same world and flavor in a much more digital friendly format. It isnt the same game, but it captures the spirit in a shorter, simpler way. Is it as deep as paper Magic? No. But it isnt childs play either. The monetization is odd, we wouldnt say its worth spending money on as you could drop well over $100 and not get the cards you want for a super specific deck. But, if you just play youll unlock all the cards you want in a few months. Our big gripe is the bugs on mobile. We constantly cant even log into the game as it thinks Im disconnected. Then, when we do get in, half of the matches never connect and count as losses for us. We dont have any of those issues in the Steam version. Honestly, Id be giving it 4 or 5 stars if it was even kind of useable mobile.

Fun at first, then you start getting stomped by decks full of rare cards. If youre not going to drop money or just suffer through everything until you can eventually (who knows when) finally grind out equivalent cards then go ahead and give up.

If youre a fan of magic maybe pass on this one. Its like an mtg/marvel snap crossover. But the thing we liked about snap was the quick games. This is not that. All creatures have vigilance basically but damage Carries over from round to round. Tutorials went by quick enough but the first 4 or 5 games we played against actual opponents boiled down to play all your creatures swing all your creatures block all their creatures repeat. Maybe it gets better later, but the games last way too long to be that stale. At least in magic you have to think about swinging out so you can keep blockers up.

Interesting concept but deviates too far from MTG. This is slapstick. Dont fall for it.
