Community Insight:

Very happily purchased once noticing this game in the App Store! The graphics and sound effects are just as we remember them from the 80s. The controls are an adjustment as we, quite like other commenters, played with a joystick. But once you get used to them we would say they work pretty good. Played all the way through beating each of the 9 levels and some.

We'd like to write a long heart felt review but it is too emotional to do because this game means so much to us, we'll just start crying. All we can say is ….. THANK YOU Edit: we like the new updates. This is the first video game we ever played, back in the 80s on the computer. This game is friggin iconic, a legend, it paved the way for so many games to come. How crazy is it that this is actually available? Thank you to all involved. Lastly, we dont think its physically possible to beat every level!!! We might be the first, but it will take years. Haha 2nd edit: wow we didnt see this coming! Great new update, the modern version is awesome looking, big changes. Plays a little smoother too. Wootwoot.

In a room in the second half of the first level, the walls are invisible, and we cant get through. Please fix this invisible wall bug.

The game itself Would be amazing if not for the unresponsive and imprecise controls. They miss jumps and directional taps so often we stopped playing this game due to frustration of unnecessary lost lives. We tried all kids of control settings but none work well enough to actually enjoy the game. Please fix the issue so we can start playing this iconic oldie again.

The description of the game says it has joystick support. It does not. It does not recognize our controller at all. This is an old game from the 80s that was meant to play with a controller. Touch screen controls are just not the same.

The New update is great! However we preferred the classic menu theme with the classic audio compared to the New One. It would be great if you could have the option to choose your menu and audio theme.

Simple, but extremely fun game, with awesome controls, and a few bugs that should be fixed.

Great game but the joystick/controls are too small and hard to control.

The early iOS version worked better than the most recent version. We used to be able to jump left or right from a standstill, now you have to move before jumping. That makes it very difficult to pass certain rooms. We actually completed all levels in the early iOS version, its impossible now.

… Its touch screen controls are hard compared to joysticks and clicky keyboards from the rad 80s.

Great game but unplayable due to tiny joystick and no way to customize controls. Developers please allow different control options . Thanks.

Terrible controls even on iPad Pro12.9.

Very retro and provides fond memories of when we used to play this game as a child on a Commodore 64 Absolute awesome way to spend the time during this morbid Covid 19 quarantined hellaciously boring and stressfully mind shattering apocalypse.

This game brings us back to the 80s. While it is a little more difficult on iPhone its still great fun.

We have loved this game since we used to play it on our commodore64 back in the 80s. So much harder on here, but its amazing.

We played sooo much of this game in our childhood. It's fun to be able to revisit as an adult.

This game really takes us back to a happy time in school in the 1980s, but now we can see that most or all this game's original elements (except the old graphics) would still seem solid in the modern day. To be less confusing, Montezuma's Revenge not only brings nostalgia, but it is still a very good game! :) we have encountered a major control issue though. Some playing sessions but not all, when running left or right, often our character goes into a glitched mode where if he jumps he jumps straight up even though he's running, and if we remove our finger he just keeps running, usually off the edge of a platform. Some sessions this happens over and over, while other sessions this doesn't happen at all.

The controls in this game are the challenge. Most sequences require exact timing and pixel perfect movement, but the primitive 1980s style controls make precise movement difficult, especially with the flat surface of the iPad, where your fingers can slide off the controls unless you're very careful. The game proceeds in multiple levels, each with the same layout as the last, but with more enemies and with some chambers darkened, becoming increasingly challenging.

We loved this game when we were a kid.

We're just as hopeless at this version as we were with the original. Very well made.

Loved this game as a kid. Was shocked to know it existed! It has the same qualities from the 80's. Hard too! We wasn't good at it in 83 and we ain't good at it now! But lots of fun!! If you remember the old version, this is the same. Our kids enjoy it too. They like the retro graphics! Ha.

We never write reviews! We were smiling from ear to ear when we saw this available in the App Store. It's everything we remember. The controls take a little getting used to but then again so did the original controls. A great port to iOS for any old school fans who grew up with this game. Thank you so much for the great memories.

Our favorite childhood game! We were hoping this would find its way to an iPhone app. Thank you:).

Greatest game ever. Need we say more. We've waited 15 years to play this again.

Its a platformer spelunking game where the object is to collect as many treasures as possible while avoiding creatures and making it to the bottom of the level and the treasure room. The game was originally released in 1983 on various platforms and this game is identical with a few enhancements. Retro mode is included to be able to play the game as it was originally (which looks like the computer based version C64). Controls aren't that bad either.

This old school game is awesome!!! The graphics, sounds and rooms are exactly like the Commodore 64 version. We love this! Thank you for making it available.

2 issues we have that we think can be addressed. 1. The joysticks/control is poor. Almost every time we play, we get unintended movement due to the joystick design. Maybe make the entire screen swipable so that we dont have to perfectly align our thumb on the small circle to move. Also make it so that we can use a Bluetooth joystick. 2. Every time we enter a new room and gradually moves to the new room so that we see half the new and half the old. We like the idea, but it just gets annoying and confusing sometimes. The original would completely switch between rooms.

Need Bluetooth Wireless Controller Support, controls on either iPad or iPhone IOS are clunky and hard to use.

The controls have to be fixed, especially for the iPad, the buttons don't respond sometimes and other times it keeps moving even if you don't press anything. If you sell a game it should be perfect, especially something as trivial as the controls. Other then that it's great, just like the game from the 80's.

A problem happens early on whereby the screen rotates by itself and cannot easily be rotated back ("screen flip bug"). It makes the game unplayable. The developer has had more than one year to fix this, yet has chosen not to. We wish we had not purchased this app.

We want to start with that this game is pretty cool and neatly authentic to the original game back in the 80s. The problem we have with this game is that it is not always playable. Although the initial menu screen typically displays fine, any selection made on it to start the game frequently causes the screen to flip and the game to start so that less than half of the game and the controls are visible. The two stars reflect the fact that when this game is playable, it is a well done effort to bring the original game to iOS. The only thing we would wish for, so far, is the ability to slow down the running speed of the game. Currently a lot of the objects (skulls, floors, etc) move considerably faster than in the original version.

After a few play-throughs, our screen flipped. The bug is still there. Sadly, the company appears to have abandoned the software.

Please go back to the earlier version of the controls. The new changes to this game today are horrible. The movement controls are not responsive It slows you down. Ill have to relearn how to move the player through the game again entirely. It is like learning to ride a bike again. Please revert Also screens are not in alignment as you move from up and down through the levels.

Great to see it on iOS. Great memories. However looks like it stopped working due to bugs. Once fixed we would increase rations to 5 stars.

…are bought by bad companies. We loved this game when we were a kid. Played on our colecovision and our C64. We downloaded this game a couple of years ago and it was hella hard. Deleted it, and re-downloaded a couple of nights ago. We see the screen flipping bug reported in October of 2017 STILL hasnt been fixed. So, Im going to delete it, and try again in another year or two, after the fail boat sinks and the last remaining survivor who gives a crap makes it to shore. Or, maybe this October Ill sing happy birthday to the screen flipping bug.

Seems like we are all on the same page. Great memories, thank you for the person who put this game here. We have not play this game in almost 30 years. We were also hoping that this game was here.

We used to play this for hours on our Atari 2600. We've looked for PC versions over the years but could never find one that worked correctly. We did the happy dance when we found this in the App Store. Very much worth our $1.99.

Spent $1.99- we hate paying for apps but had to do it. Well worth it. Like old times.

We used to play this game as a kid back in the day. Brings back such good memories! What a classic! Buy now.

We loved playing this game on our ColecoVision as a kid and it's still a great game on our iPad. Thank you for making this game! Maybe you can also release an iPad version of the ColecoVision game JumpMan junior :).

Excellent version of the classic game. Well worth it.

Perfect port. Just buy it. —— Original reviews: —— -Support for iPhone 5 would be great. (Done!!! \o/) —— -we love the original Montezuma that we've played on Atari 800XL and we bought this version with certain fears about it. But it is just AWESOME. We recommend this game to all people who love Montezuma. Works perfect on iPhone and iPad. Just one thing to the developer: If you update please add that unfinished version with the giant indian who stomp and add it a ending. It would be totally awesome. Thanks a lot for making this game. Next ? Bruce Lee with extra stages or new missions ? Please ? :).

Ok – this was a difficult game way back when – it's a little more difficult on the iPhone and you only have 1 extra continue set of lives (we think the original have you 3 extra continues) Exactly like original though and great memories – we love this game and had to purchase for $1.99.

We searched out this game for the chance it may be available! To our surprise it was! It reminds us totally of our childhood. Our only complaint is the controls. It is a bit hard to control… We wish we had our joystick that we used to use with the apple2e! Our kiddos love it too… And we remember some of the secrets.

….ICade/8-Bitty support! Add this and this app will be perfect.

Absolutely loved it. Glad we searched for it… Go Commodore 64.

Brings back some great memories.

Brings back memories of our Apple II E.

Make it compatible with iPod 5th screen.
