What Makes Neuroshima Hex Stand Out

Control an army struggling for survival in the post-apocalyptic world. Choose one of the 4 unique factions—Moloch, Borgo, The Outpost, The Hegemony—and defeat your opponent in tactical warfare. Play solo against an AI opponent or against a human player in an asynchronous cross-platform multiplayer mode.
Prove that you have what it takes to survive:
March with the machines of Moloch, leading its army toward setting the new world order.
Become Borgo and unite the forces of the mutants who spread terror in the wastelands.
Lead The Outpost, humanity's last and only hope, and try to beat the machines in against-the-odds guerrilla warfare.
Be the boss of The Hegemony, a land of gangers uncaring about the fate of others, living only for violence and their mad entertainment.

Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

This strategy warfare game is outstanding.

Have loved this game since the original release. Would love it more if they would release more army packs. Its been nine months since Mississippi was released. Thats a long time. At this rate, George RR Martin might finish the Winds of Winter before all the armies are available.

We ourselves love this game, been playing the physical version since the summer of July in 2025, and nowadays no one would play it with us. Found it on the App Store two weeks ago and have played it over 100 times already. To the Devs, this game is great, and we ask that you finish the app fully if you can please. Add the ability to play with up to six players/ai, a bigger board, and with the other modes included in the original game please. For those of us that have played and paid for this, please consider finishing the product for us.

New Armies Please! Please bring back, Neojungle & Doomsday Machine Next Wonderful At The Core 5-Stars! However, they currently have a snails-pace update cycle that might should consider speeding up, with the least intention, or perhaps most importantly, in order to respect their fans whom purchased factions/ armies previously before the game was sold to the current company running it and have not made some of those factions armies with a promise hinging upon nebulous future re-release dates. For those that havent played this award winning board game turned iPhone strategy game before, do yourself a favor and give it a try. What wed love to see as a loyal fanbase: – Reimplementation of the factions, we & many of us have already paid for- especially the plant one! There are so many great ones we miss so badly! – No extra button press when it is our turn. – More varied animations (everything is either a nudge or explosion). – Why not ad more, variable backgrounds? Wouldnt it be pretty easy to hire an artist to just have some different background wallpapers that switch out? – These are just off the top of our head. Im not trying to say Im representing an all encompassing list of ideas from our fellow players. Bonus: What about even newer factions we havent seen before on iOS?! (Note on this- loved getting the Beasts army which we hadnt seen before.

We've been playing this game for years- really good on every strategy level, complexity of play and so on, but the graphics stink and sound FX are just the same for every army and every action… The files sound like they were cut and pasted from a free online sound bank. The graphics are individually good, but are way too detailed for phone scale, and they don't play well with one another or the over laid buff symbols – makes for a murky playing field. It's so busy and overlaid sometimes it's difficult to see which way the units are facing. These two gripes have been bothering us since the beginning- was hoping the devs would've spent some effort improving this aspect of the game, as they added armies and tweaked the game play over the years.

Loved the game until it went AWOL we Want our Previous factions as well as the new factions were have now.

The re-development is improving, but we could really use Neojungle, Sharrash, Doomsday, and other armies back. Partisans isn't much fun to play or play against. We're okay with repurchasing everything, but really want more of the old armies and ability to play vs two AIs.

Took a look today to see how far the game has developed since revamping graphics. Animated elements work, but sometimes distract from game play. Wondering if support for 3 or 4 players will ever return.

This was one of our favorite IOS board games and we unlocked a lot of sets and really enjoyed it. Then it was updated in a way that took away many features and seriously degraded the experience. Some of our favorite armies that we paid for are gone and while there are new graphics they arent really better and the ability to play against more than one ai is gone. This was an app that worked well and had good ai and matchmaking and now its not. Disappointing. Wish we could role it back.

Hard to play solo as the bot continuously draws advantageous tiles while human player only receives bonus tiles and no actual units. By the time youre 3 turns in you are reduced and not much fun to play uncompetitive matches even against the bot.

The ai is now stupider and the app lost the function of replaying a game.

Factions that we paid for are still missing. Player 3 and 4 AI still missing. AI is braindead for more complex factions. Its been years since the update.

We hadnt purchased a lot of content, and the game seems to work pretty much like the earlier version. Some of the UI is better, IMO. The bots IQ still seems good, too. Thanks.

Im really confused by the facelift this game got. There are now glaring quality of life problems that never existed. Ill list some below: -Excessive clicking/tapping. For some reason, you have to tap on the screen at the start of every turn. To throw away a tile each turn, it usually requires multiple taps. It asks you if youre sure when withholding a tile at turn end, when starting a battle, etc. After placing tiles, sometimes you have to randomly tap on the screen a few times until the panel with the continue button appears (which requires another tap in and of itself). -Egregious UI mistakes. You now need to dig through the rulebook via the main menu to see what each faction does. Really strange. This is true even when selecting factions. You dont even get to see their names. In game, you cant access what your tiles do without existing to main menu and digging through the rulebook; getting to the rules your after is several UI levels deep. Another note: the tile viewing and toss out at the beginning of each turn only works if your iPhone is oriented one way (due to the phones bezel). -Strange, not thought out rule changes. They added a unlucky rule. We believe now if you draw three non-unit tiles you can redraw (after a few clicks). This would be okay, but it just does not make sense with some factions, including at least one of the base four. If playing green, you will be asked incessantly, which feels like you can very unfairly dig through your tile pool. -Nitpick: the way they now display damaging during battles is clunky and unnecessary. No need to see all the added up damage followed by an explosion animation. It should revert to how the previous app did it.

The restore purchases does not seem to be working with the latest update. We would rather not have to pay for Mississippi again. We wish the updates were more frequent. No choice but to patiently wait for all the armies we paid for to return. 5 stars because we want to support this great game. Dec. 26, 2022 Edit: we broke down and paid for Mississippi again. Hope our extra money helps get the 3 and 4 player game options released soon.

Glad to see with recent updates that Neuroshima hex works on our iPhone. While playing against AI is not as smoothe as it used to be, it is not so slow that it negatively impacts gameplay. Only problem is that not all the armies are back, but Im glad to hear theyre coming. Its also good to see that Portal is adding armies that werent even in the old app.

Wonderful At The Core 5-Stars, but a snails pace development cycle has fans feeling disrespected. We were patient for a while, but the latest length in-between updates is frustrating. If we hit the four month mark without another army being released, this formerly, 5-star review becomes 2, and so forth. Not as a threat, but as a genuine reflection of how we feel about the game. As much as the snails-pace of new faction/ army releases and rerelease of armies weve already paid for deserve all the scorn received of late, the core game remains as brilliantly designed as ever. For those that havent played this award winning board game turned iPhone strategy game before, do yourself a favor and give it a try. The new updated look looks worse to us than the original that inspired it all.

This used to be our favorite game and it was relatively easy to play. Now it takes more time and is less intuitive. There should be a way to roll back to previous versions. We used to play this game about a dozen times a day. Now its only when we have absolutely nothing to do and we usually quit half way though the game because its so terrible. Dont purchase this until it becomes playable again.

Awesome game. Have been playing for years. Its a very clever game and you never play the same round twice.

As much as the latest iteration deserves all the scorn received of late, the core game remains as brilliantly designed as ever. In a push to encourage growth and new players (instead of detouring with bad reviews), Im rating the actual game here- which, Im sure you fellow loyal fans all agree is and always has been, 5-Stars. We love abstract, tactical skirmish games like this one. Neuroshima: Hex! Is our favorite of all the ones Ive played. Ive never seen a games mechanics match the theme so well as in NH! Im glad to see this game accessible again, whereas the previous iteration had become unplayable. The one-star reviews of this game are unmerited. They are based on inaccurate information. 1) It is not a money-grab. The previous iteration, as great as it may have been, became broken, abandoned, and unplayable. It was irretrievable and irreparable; therefore, the current developer had to start from scratch. However, instead of creating an entirely new app that previous owners would have to purchase a second time, the developer made it free to previous owners. Whats more, as they release new factions they have made them free to anyone who owned those factions in the previous iteration. 2) The game is far from unplayable. Since release on September 5, 2021, Ive logged over 500 plays online. Bugs have been fixed promptly when the developer has been made aware. We for one am grateful to have this amazing game available in this format because its more easily accessible. Im grateful to see this game supported once again on this kind of platform. If youre like us, and you want to see this game succeed, leave a more reasonable review, and help the developer bring more content to the table. Kind regards.

Some time ago, there was an iOS update that rendered many apps unusable. The original NS Hex was one of those apps. But we blame the iOS update for the loss of man apps that were paid for but no longer worked. The developers for this game did eventually port the game to the new iOS, and like many have said, it falls very short of how well the original game played. BUTthe game itself, not how well the app delivers the game, but the game is itself is a 5 star strategy game that is played in minutes. Im rooting for the developers to get it right eventually. Speed up the AI, bring back 3 and 4 players, improve the graphics, etc.

We love this game and loved the old app. Im excited that Portal is supporting it and intends to develop it further. However, having to wait so long for the AI to make its move kills our enthusiasm every time we give it a chance. The only app was instantaneous and thats what we need for our enjoyment.

Gave up on this game when developer switched because implementation was garbage. Bugs every where, graphics hard to read, DUMB AI Decided to try it again recently and its still broken. Initiative 3 troops and Initiative 2 troops attacking at same time. Last we checked 3 comes before 2, nice programming guys.

This game used to be wonderful. We loved playing this game in our free time when we were younger, but now the game is unplayable. The game was perfectly fine as was, but now its absolutely awful.

The game was auto updated and is now unplayable. Why did they try and fix something that wasnt broken? Why does a game this old only have 8 reviews? They tried to make more money by forcing a product that clearly isnt ready and keep resetting the reviews. No accountability and no loyalty.

The fix on this is so bad, we see the original reviews have been removed. Those of us who were fans and paid for the additional armies and features continue to get screwed with this horrible horrible so called upgrade. We purchased the additional armies and to this day we are still stuck with a crappy game Does if it is not broken dont fix it mean anything.

Add the armies you made us pay for and fix your broken game.

Loved the older version of the game. The new skin isnt as easy to view and the game play seems to take longer against the AI. We would love to see the old skin. Probably will not though.

The ai is too slow in this updated version. We love the tabletop game and the old app but this version is borderline unplayable.

So many issues since the game has been relaunched. Crashes all the time. Cannot recover previous purchases as well. Loved the original version.

One of the oldest games we have and so good they are updating it. Looking forward to the end result.

Used to be 5 but now just a 2 The old app 3.0 had it all. The old interface was great. This new interface is poorly designed. Please just bring back the old interface.

We cant even get past the tutorial! Im told to please follow the tutorial, even though Im exactly as instructed.

Developer of old app went out of business. So without the know how to update the old app every time Apple updates iOS, portal games had to start from scratch. And they couldnt just do every race out of the gate.

Yes, we know they are adding content back slowly. Its still unacceptable that it was removed in the first place. This new version needed a lot more work, paying customers arent your F****NG beta testers! Glad we still have the old version on our iPad. Im never updating. Fire whoever is developing this game.

Simply put, the faction doesn't work on the phone. When you have a unit next to your HQ that you should be able to move, the interface doesn't give you any ability to move the unit. Who's brilliant idea was it to redevelop this game? Went from a top five game to a bottom five game.

Whoever decided to re-skin and reprogram this should be fired. What was our favourite game for many years has been ABSOLUTELY RUINED IN EVERY WAY. It looks and plays terribly now. The buttons are all smaller and less intuitive. The colours and tiles look so bad and different from the game we love. We bought all the armies and used to play it many times each day for many YEARS! Now we only start it when we see it has had an update in the forlorn hope they have reverted the game to what was once a 5 star game. All armies we purchased are gonethis is a criminal act. We want to know how to complain to Apple, and we want a REFUND. The only fix is to fire whoever ruined this game and revert back to either version 1 or 3. Look at the version details to see what they did. Both of these were 5 star games. Version 2 was bad, but it was nothing compared to the debacle Version 4 is. It does not even deserve 1 star. We have reached out to the developer and her nothing, and our reviews on their web site were removed. It is absolute cr@p now. Positive reviews prior to 2021 show you the love this game had. Positive reviews in 2021 and later are probably from the developers friends. Our son is a game developer and when he saw what these people did he couldnt believe they could treat their fans this badly.

This game is now unplayable. Cant access our purchases. So broken. Fix it or refund. Do neither and you are nothing more than thieves.

It used to be great, it felt good to use and wasnt clunky. Now its clunky, ugly, and just feels bad to use. Plus the AI takes forever to do its turns now. Dont even get us started on how they REMOVED all the armies and somehow are taking forever to add them all back in. It shouldnt be this hard. On top of all of this, They dont even have 4 player mode implemented yet even though it was a thing in the old version. Its been over a year and they still havent added everything back. Whoever made the decision to do this should not be in the leadership position they are in, they are a complete idiot.

The new version of this app is a step backwards in every conceiveable way.

Loved this game until newest update. Cant play 4 players anymore and all our purchased races are not here anymore. Do not buy this game as is.

First, Im aware they are adding the expanded armies one at a time and that those of us who purchased them in the old app will have them restored. Thats fine, Im patient. What bothers us is that the app is terrible now in terms of functionality and ease of use. The menus are weird to navigate. In-game it is not at ALL intuitive how to go about seeing what each tile does – the old version had this built-in right in the game board and now we have to dig for it. The buttons are much smaller so its hard to see on a phone. Our least favorite thing is that in the old app, when it was the AIs turn, it was almost instant. Now theres a wait for it to take its turn. This makes no sense and slows down the game flow considerably. Lastly, every time there is an update, it loses our old in-progress games. We also have to make sure our friend and we are updated to the same version or we cant play together at all. This used to be a 5-star app that we played all the time – an app that was miraculously better than the original board game itself. But with as finicky as this new app is, Id rather go back to our old version 2.0 cardboard game.

We cant get it to set up more than two players. The bottom two positions wont let us set them up. There is no place for us to download the armies they reintroduced, that we already owned previously. Very disappointing to see a great game be ruined by a company that doesnt care.

You wont be able to play a match without the ai crashing your game. Also if you had expectations set from play previous versions youll find that the game has gone downhill. There was we time when we purchased each of the races because of the pure enjoyment of creativity the developers displayed. Now we wouldnt spend money to buy just the game.
