Community Insight:
We have owned this since it came out. It waited to do the review until we really spent some time with the game. We bought NWN for pc back when it came out and the expansions. This is a great port. Some things we like: when you put up your phone to do things or goto the Home Screen the game stays up without draining the battery. The game does not reset or have issues resuming. Another thing: the game play uses up very little battery life running in performance mode on our IPhone 16 pro max. Out of all the games we have and we have the best AAA games this one runs great. The character we have right now is a Rogue/fighter/Blackguard Im progressing through the first campaign. Then doing the expansions we never beat. Let us also add to this review: you can do all the PC CONSOLE command codes by doing ## before a command. The first command is ##DebugMode 1 After that all the commands work with ##(command) (2nd part of command data). You input these using the chat button, which is to the right above the action bar. If your game touch screen mouse becomes bugged at a point after using some commands and appears like the icon of an item you summoned just save and reload and it will be fixed but you will have to enable debug mode again.
Been playing since well, we have gold and platinum editions in box with all the goodies. Now we play on a device smaller than the manual. This is killer.
(UPDATE) Found the solution to UI scaling too small: Game Options > UI > Advanced > UI Unconstrain Scale (default OFF, change to ON) > Restart game. Could then increase the scaling above max value of 1.6 – be mindful though as if you go too high seems like it can break the view. Was perfectly fine before recent update (1.0.7), now everything is far too small – hard to see, hard to click, much worse experience overall. UI scaling maxxed out at 1.6 – no way to increase higher than that unfortunately. Please fix this issue :(.
We got the diamond edition for pc years ago when windows 98 was a thing. Got it again from beamdog for our android tablet. Now Im getting it a third time for our iPad mini. Thanks for keeping it available.
We absolutely love this game. Its so much fun and theres hourssssss of gameplay. 10/10.
The mobile version of this game is a great value for the price, but we would love to play it with our Backbone controller. Please add support devs.
Great game but crashes a lot when you play any audio but neverwinter nights audio. So that means no apple music playing in background. The port itself is good for ios. Its a lot of fun to have mods in the game to use.
The release notes say that it supports up to 8 multi-classes, but upon level-up, we can never choose a fourth class.
Mediocre at best, unless you like spending half your play time swinging at (and missing) locked chests. Navigating on the iPad takes some time and is frustrating. The game seriously lacks the immersion and exposition of the earlier Bauldurs gate package (by the same folks, try that package its amazing. Also 2e adnd rules that appeal to us more, being 42 years old) Ill keep playing since we bought it.
(update 1/11/25) Ugh, with the new update, the game screen resolution is way too high! On our iphone, the buttons were already small enough to cause mis-taps, and now it's even worse! And the text is too small! We tried increasing the scaling, but it's already at its max at 1.8. Devs please fix this to provide options to increase the UI scaling back up. (Update) Found a problem in the Infinite Dungeons module – the lock of hair item the hag gives you that converts a monster to a companion makes the new companion not respond to attempts to talk to it and any summoned creatures it spawns attacks your party even though it's not set as hostile (which means you can't attack it to kill it).(end update) Overall pretty good, fun to play. Brings back memories. Quite a few problems though, some of which were in the original too, like pathing of characters can be pretty bad at times and enemies can get trapped behind open doors, making them hard to attack. If too many bodies/enemies around, can be hard to impossible to direct attacks/looting. Some UI issues (like some map points not showing their labels when tapped, some buttons like Pause being so small they're easily missed, causing you to walk to where you mis-tapped). After playing a while, phone heats up a lot and sounds start dropping out. But the worst is the freezing – sometimes after only 20 min, sometimes after an hour, but happens maybe a third of our play sessions.
Love this game! Would be great to have controller support.
We have been playing this game for four years & sometimes Ill get bored of it a go to other games, but we always eventually come back to it. You will not be disappointed. This game is the BEST.
Can you use DM mode in iPad? Ive tried ~ and ## nothing works.
So Ive played with friends for many years on the original and EE version for console, and its amazing. Wish we could install any of the modules we bought tho.
Nothing else like this. Create on PC and take on the go. Would like more features but , its mobile.
We have played Never Winter Nights going way back, owning the 2002 Big Box version of the game. Funny that back then, NWN really taxed our windows system with the breakthrough 3D graphics. Now we have this amazing game on mobile! Excellent port of Never Winter Nights to mobile devices. It plays just as the original PC version. A huge thank you to Beamdog/Overhaul games in bringing these Gems to new generations. Also, we were having some issues with running the game on an iPad mini2. All of a sudden; the game runs smooth with no crashes. This is Devs listening to the players. Optimization, tweaks have made this game open to older iOS apple products. So much appreciated, and thank you.
Im having a blast with this classic game on the iPad. So much content and depth its definitely worth the cost. We must admit we forgot how bad the portrait art and 3D models were back in the day. Still, if you can get past your toon looking like a Robo-Cop melted Pink-Popeye Gorilla Trog then this game is an amazing dnd RPG.
Update: The latest update fixed it. Quick response from the developer to correct it. Original review: we really enjoyed this app, but since the 1.0.5 update the other day it wont work on our iPad anymore and it worked fine before. Now it crashes as soon as we try to open it. Running iOS 12.5.5 and we cant update iOS any further. Please made version 1.0.4 available again.
We cant tell you how great it is to be able to play this on our iPhone. Its literally the actual game from the PC. Our only nit pick is that on our iPhone, everything is very small, especially the fonts of the dialog. Its readable, but very tiny. Those with eyesight issues may need to wear glasses or use a magnifier. Controlling things like screen rotation, zooming, and movement, using the touch screen, takes a lot of getting used to, especially if youre used to controlling things with a mouse and keyboard. And now for the feature request: we dont know how feasible it is, but we would LOVE for the Construction Set that comes with the PC version of Neverwinter Nights to be included too, or at least available as a separate download. We LOVE building adventures and maps for Neverwinter Nights, and having the option to build adventures and maps in a portable way on our iPhone would be really great. We dont know if the toolkit would be usable on and iPhone but we would love to have this anyway, for completeness. Great job on this port. We never imagined that we would be playing this game in something the size of our palm.
This is a very nice game but we need chinese language please.
Please provide backbone controller support.
About 6 months ago the pc version got a huge update, but not the iOS version. We played this on the pc as it came out when we were younger but bought it on iOS so we can play again on a touch screen. Would be nice if the devs updated this version too, like the pc version. Especially since they resold us (which we bought again) all of the premium modules we already paid for or the original developers had given away for free.
The mouse function on IPad doesnt actually work and just operates as a touch input. It has the options in the settings for it but they are not functional. Other games allow for this so we know its possible. Touch controls in a game like this are really frustrating when it comes to combat and navigation. Please fix this issue.
Too difficult to play with touchscreen port over the console controls so we can ise our backbone with this.
A great way to play on the go but we would love to see controller support. We know you can do it. There are ports of this game on xbox PlayStation and Switch.
We purchased two paid module packs within the app, but the modules will not download. We would rate the game higher based on the quality of the base content, but we would appreciate if this was fixed.
The port is fine and plays much like the PC version did 20 years ago. We have no issue with the gameplay in general until we reach the end of the original campaign. The statues at Morag are all immune to all damage types except negative, magic, and holy, none of which can we get on our rogue. Its a shame, otherwise a good game.
On iOS 16 the game cannot validate the CD key and stalls on trying to enter multiplayer. Bought this specifically for that purpose, so pretty disappointed.
If we ever had the chance to actually play it. Constantly crashes, never saves a generated character – possibly the worst game Ive ever TRIED to play on the iPad.
We wrote a review complaining that the update broke the game. The issue was not with the game , but with our IOS revision. Make sure you have your latest version of software before playing.
On launch the title card just flashes and app instantly closes.
We really enjoyed this app, but since the 1.0.5 update the other day it wont work on our iPad anymore and it worked fine before. Now it crashes as soon as we try to open it. Running iOS 12.5.5 and we cant update iOS any further. Please made version 1.0.4 available again.
We picked this up when we had to wait an entire day for new windows at our house. It is a great adaptation of the original. We plan to keep playing long after the one-day we initially expected to be entertained for.
Long story short, these Dungeons & Dragon games have been currently getting us through hard times due to our health. Please keep porting more of these D&D titles to Apple Mobile. Dungeons and Dragons Online would be a dream come true. Please keep up your hard work, we for one appreciate your companys products.
The recent update makes it five starfixed the camera angle. Like other reviewers have said, need to do something about the viewing angle, the pc version allows you to drop the angle down so youre looking over your characters shoulder so you can see further ahead for ranged attacks, also it just makes the game more immersive, other than that a good port.
The PC version is still way better than the phone/tablet version, but it is very good for what it is. No ads and minimal in game purchases that mirror the PC version. Biggest draw back is that the character and screen view are way easier to control on PC and the larger screen on PC is much more fun. All that being said, the conversion to IOS from PC preserved and adapted most game functions in an understandable and intuitive way that makes picking up the game easy. One other draw back is that modules u purchased on PC seem to need to be bought again for IOS. Would be nice if those and your own custom modules just preloaded from steam onto IOS and characters too. While there seems to be a work around for tablet, there does not seem to be for iPhone. Still an awesome platform conversion.
We played this some on PC back when we were young and first getting into D&D, love this mobile version. The only thing we could suggest for the touch screen port is a setting that pauses/unpauses per round or a bigger pause button.
We love this game so much it would be even better if it had controller support like the switch version.
Camera controls and scripts could not be adjusted properly, after making adjustments through the options screen. The game is not enjoyable d/t difficulty switching to an acceptable first person or free moving top down. The script is too small. It can be increased, yet must be reduced again in order to access the game screen.
Everything is clunky. In bg or bg2 ee you can control your whole party thats six characters spell and abilities for you to manage and combo(plus your summons), there your spell cast and character movements are smooth and clear. But in NWN you can only control your own clunky character(yeah even only controlling one character your battles are generally confusing and not smooth), your summons are constantly doing some uncontrolled actions.Every lockpick takes about 5 seconds of 3D animation. In bg or bg2 thats an instant. And camera angle is weird and unnatural, camera movements are inducing a little motion sickness. The environments and buildings are just ugly and unnatural too, when playing bg2 ee we were astonished by how beautiful the wild mage village is. The 2D city landscape of district of Amn,the Inns ,the market merchants, they are just way more natural and convincing. Due to using an old 3d engine, NWNs environment arts are just way worse than the 2D painting style. NWN would be the first D&D game we cant bear to finish.
Why are you selling a product that does not work!!!! We just purchased this and off the start if we hit start a new game there is a critical failure and none of the other options work…. So as we said why are selling a product that does not work.
Shame, we loved NWN back in the day and was excited to play again.
Open app. Choose whether to load or start a campagin. LOCKS UP. Even does so with a new game. So completely unplayable. Developer: can we have our money back? Everyone else: Dont waste your money. UPDATE: reported the bug to the developer. Who mailed back: thanks for telling us, but we wont do anything about it, but maybe well fix it it an uodate DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
The game is good but not Chinese.
Beamdog did a fantastic job porting this over. Any bugs have been squashed and it plays great on our 13 Max Pro – they also ensured we had file access so we could even install any mods we want that work for EE. Currently playing Swordflight, a purportedly difficult module, and we have no problems progressing on the smaller screen. You may need to pause more often compared to PC to avoid a misclick, and persistent worlds may be more difficult on account of being unable to pause, but for a game with NWNs scope it is terrific that we can play something like this on the go. Highly recommend if youre looking for a solid game on the iPhone beyond puzzles and idle genres.
Epic. Fun. Interesting. Attractive. Repayable. No other RPG comes anywhere close.
How do we create our own module on IPhone.
And a back up quick save Would be even better.
This is a fantastic port, and the ability to edit the game directly through Files is a big help; we only wish it was more compatible with more of the PRC content and class/prestige classes packs.
Great game but keeps crashing on arelith server which lead to inaccessible character until reset.
