Hear from the Players – Nightgate Reviews

Find out what gamers are saying about Nightgate:

One of the most intriguing, puzzling, relaxing, and beautifully created games on the App Store.

Best game we’ve ever played, it got progressively harder but not too fast, and it had a decent story in a way.

Thats all we really need to say. So much intangible beauty, a complete artistic statement.

This would be it! Simply gorgeous and smooth. Well done. Totally worth the download and time spent playing. Just wish there were more levels. Didn’t want it to end.

Very few games make us feel as immersed as this game does. Its minimal, yet challenging, and the gameplay envelopes you.

We dont usually write reviews, but for our third time re-downloading this game, we just have to say, it is SO FREAKING AWESOME. The graphics are good, the gameplay is challenging enough to be fun, but easy enough to be completable, and we dont even usually like these types of games! Night gate. Is. The. Best.

Its very relaxing to play this interactive puzzle, moody, cyberpunk type, bit chaser game. Not sure if you could use just one word to describe it, so that was our feeble attempt. One quick observation, the days seem to be wrong… Maybe on purpose? For example, June 30th, 2359 is described as a Monday in-game, and Google tags it at Tuesday. Noticed that at the beginning date as well (cant remember the specific day, but in-game date said Monday, calendar search had it as Tuesday). Havent gotten far enough, so maybe this will be explained later in the story?

Please make a Steam version (port).

Surprisingly a fun game that does not require ones mind to think. At first glance, you might think its a puzzle game but once you get the gist of it, a very simple and profound game to be sure.

… In some alternative reality. Woah.

We love this game. We’ve been playing it for the last three years off and on. We can pick it up, play a couple puzzles, and then put it down and do other things. It is so meditative and calm. With just enough challenge to make it interesting. The music in the background is quite ambient and fun! It really helps you focus.

As a long haul truck driver this game is really helpful. We have to be able to focus and stay awake for many hours at a time so we play this game while Im driving. Ha! Just kidding; we prefer Tetris when Im driving truck (a l Lorne Armstrong). This game is visually mesmerizing and as others have stated the sound design and soundtrack is really cool. It reminds us of the soundtrack from the movie Drive, full of pulsing, driving, retro side-chained analog synthesizer patches from the 80s/90s. Definitely worth playing for just about anybody.

We found the game challenging but not impossible. It was a fun game to play. Highly recommended to all.

Needs another 100 levels. Hours and hours of great entertainment.

Minimalist design doesnt mean minimalist feel. Levels feel vast and otherworldly. Also playable on Apple TV via the remote. Very, very cool.

Great soundtrack, very immersive and just hard enough to be really fun!

… And plays great on iOS too. Great design, music, and gameplay.

What a great game. Feels like Stranger Things meets Tron meets Halt and Catch Fire. Just get it! We couldnt put it down, stayed up all night until we finished it. Worth every penny.

Entirely immersive and hypnotic. Seemingly simple yet cognitively complex. Like a pinball platform askew on a slant and tilted inward toward a hall of mirrors. The soundtrack: a compliment that makes it complete.

This game is great. The visuals are stunning and it made us smile lol. That is highly unusual. It is very fun and is a 10/10 for us.

When we first started playing, we couldnt decide if we liked it. After five minutes, we still couldnt decide. Fifteen minutes in, and Im still asking myself, Do we even really wanna play this game? Its been over an hour now, and Im quitting because our iPad is about to go dead and Im so moved that we felt we had to write a review. We guess we answered our own question. This is easily the most unique and surprisingly interesting game we’ve played in awhile. Kudos to the devs for such an engrossing yet minimalist experience. Its a star shining in the night[gate]. Thanks!

Every time we wonder what this app is and why it’s on our phone, we open it to find out. We’re immediately whisked away to a 3D paradise. We love the imagination behind this game. It’s a treat.

This game is an immersive experience and we’ve never seen anything like it. The soundtrack is plastered everywhere in the game because it knows it’s good. Overall, a very underrated game well done. Anyway, this game has an atmosphere that is fitting for the story. The gameplay isn’t too much though, at least challenging puzzles are actually relevant in the game unlike current day puzzle games. What Nightgate did though, is something no other company could of thought about at this games release due to how simple, but creative it is. Graphic aren’t too shabby, but since it’s Unity there’s a reason it isn’t to much… BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT DOESN’T MATTER RIGHT?- The design is what could inspire about everyone who has played this game, what can we say? To summarize, this is an absolute masterpiece of a game, especially an iOS game. Praise this amazing game.

Nobody can better than that game app. Its best app game we ever we played.

This, Frost, and Linelight are masterpieces. Theyre never leaving our phone. Semidome, thank you for this gem. We only ask for more levels in the future but we know thats a stretch. Whats here can be played over and over with great enjoyment. Support this amazing game, people!

We’ve been playing this game on and off for a few years but we listen to the soundtrack regularly. Is this a hard game? No. Thats not why you play it. You play it to go to a different world. One with the lights off and a pair of headphones on.

Please make more levels!!! And a way to reset game so one can start over. No way to reset the game to play again.

Very excellent, but needs development and more stages. We hope so too.

At first, we thought WOW this is amazing, the trailer, description, and intro all point to an incredible game. However, the puzzles themselves arent very interesting, the soundtrack is fun but repetitive, and the graphics and plot advancements are kept to a bare minimum, drawing you in just as youre about to leave, theres only a snippet of plot every 15 gates or so and we just really couldnt get into it, if you just wanna chill then get this game, if you want plot, graphics, and fun, get Playdeads INSIDE.

So this one has caused us to realize we don’t care for iOS games where the primary control mechanism is hold and slide. It is not a terrible game, but we don’t care for this type of control. Furthermore holding the finger down tends to get in the way of seeing the screen. This is a problem because it is physical challenge type game. Not bad, not our favorite.

This game looks beautiful but it one of those games that drives us crazy because Im wanting a relaxing journey and getting frustrated instead. This is NOT a game that will stimulate you intellectually- it will make you tense and make your finger sore. Use the game GEMINI as your inspiration for a beautiful game with more of a creative path.

When it will going to release the second part???

This was one of our favorite mobile games to play. Thanks for making such a fun and challenging experience. Hoping for a sequel in the future!

After over a year of playing this we finally noticed the app icon is the vegables meme what the heck.

Nightgate is at its best on Apple TV. On a big screen, the whole world feels like Blade Runner. Which is what we want. Two shortcomings that are considerable but do not warrant a lower rating: Gamepad support would make it perfect. Colorblind support for those of us with broken eyes.

We rarely write reviews but we just had to tell you guys how great this game is. It’s retro, futureistic and minimalist all at the same time. Game play is simple yet challenging as each level progresses. Excellent game and excellent music ( we’ll be downloading that as well). Please develop more titles as innovative as this one.

We stopped playing this game after a while but we got it again and now its the only game we play out of all the the others we have.

This is the only game we have ever considered buying. We are going to research Semidome and play all of their games. We are completely taken.

Its very nice game and unique , we want more levels.

The soundtrack has kind of a Deux Ex feel, which we liked. Good puzzles. We liked it. For devs: Please make a way to reset your progress so we can start over and play the game through, again. We asks, nicely, and if that doesnt work, we begs.

Simple yet immensly creative graphics. Truly immersive audio. Really, you should play this with headphones. The game is pointless without the music.

As it gets harder and harder, it makes us want to put more effort. Takes a but of logic to anticipate and avoid red spots.

This game takes you into a new dimension with levels that are mildly challenging, and control is smooth and precise. The game is definitely fun but the most appealing aspect is its simple, yet visually hypnotizing visuals with a soundtrack that gives you the feeling that you are in a lonely distant future. We couldnt stop playing until we completed the game.

Old-school looks and gameplay, chill Synth-Wave music, and a well-designed control scheme. Handles well on screens large and small. Runs nicely.

This game is engaging, challenging and addictive, all the qualities you want in a game. So far we have played it twice through and will probably continue to play it several more times. Devs, if you are listening, our only suggestion would be to have the game save the level you are on during the second time through like it does the first time. Hitting play and then exit to try to dial in the level you are on multiple times is less than desirable, but other than that, good work. We cant wait to check out more Semidome games!

Congrats semi dome for developing a so addictive and interesting game, we couldnt stop until reach the end of it.

We love this game, Im a big Tron & Tron legacy fan. This game has that sci-fi Tron feel to it, love it.
