Community Insight:

Please update this game to iOS 11. We use to love playing this game, and we would really like to play it again. One of the best games on the App Store.

Graphics, mechanics, storyline, it's all good.

This is a well made turn based action rpg. Game has a unique combat system, different skill trees and tons if loot options.

Great fun if you like turn based RPGs. Runs flawlessly on our iPad 2. Fast load times compared to a lot of iOS RPGs.

As a turn based RPG, this is a very solid game. Good lighting and color for the graphics. The story is a just a bit too shallow for us but not unenjoyable. Glad to have played it.

Really enjoyed this game, the combat system and character advancement are both very interesting. Wish it were longer or we had an expansion / new game with same system.

Just that. Loved the strong female lead. Loved the story. Loved the world. Loved the epic final battle. Brilliant.

Awesome graphics, interesting storyline, a female protagonist… Right on.

From the usual grind. It took us a while to get into it because the dice-rolling system is a bit confusing (for those of us unfamiliar with tabletop games, at least) and doesn't seem worth the trouble at first. But later in the game it gets really tactical and the advantages are clear. It's really cool and different from generic level-up-and-bash RPGs. The skill trees and variety of equipment are good too and provide replay value. The game is a bit unforgiving during the learning curve. Trying out a variety of skill types at the start went badly for us; characters have a hard time in battle unless they specialize immediately and stick with it. Enemies don't respawn so there is only just enough exp if you plan well. You can't make up for bad choices with a bit of extra hunting. Only after one specialty is really solid can one play around at all. Likewise, don't leave any area without exploring thoroughly and getting all the exp there is! There is no going back. On the other hand, if you plan (easiest to stick with one specialty) the balance is really nice, with enemies neither boring nor frustrating. The storyline is good enough. Characters aren't too fleshed out and sidequests are minimal, but the pace is quick enough we didn't get bored. There are a few quite good one-liners. The engineering system has great potential but we rarely use it. By the time we have parts and the blueprint, most things are obsolete. We would have liked it better if more items had transfer codes and parts were a bit more generous. SPOILER ALERT: we love that there is an epilogue!! We haven't finished it yet but am really hoping it will provide some closure about what becomes of Gallante.

Great game, reminds us of old PC RPGs in a way. The dice-based combat is also somewhat reminiscent of dungeon crawl board games, like Descent. Lots of character customization options and strategic combat. The game length is just right as well, long enough to dig into the character options, but it doesn't overstay its welcome. Our only complaint is the writing, which is mediocre at best, and tries to be funny but inspires more eye-rolling than laughter. The overall story arc is somewhat interesting, though, and at least gives enough background to give the dungeon crawling some context. Fun game, lots of replay value.

When is the sequel coming out.

A truly excellent turn-based romp, complete with die rolls. Simple game mechanics expand into deep strategy without exploding complexity; this is a perfect "minute mayhem" RPG for iOS. Pick it up and play for a turn or play until your battery dies. A few spelling/grammar errors in the dialogue, but overall this does not detract from the punchy lines and decent story. No deep LotR plot here, but gamers as old as we are remember paying ten times this price for far worse. This game will not change your mind about turn-based games, but it will make your time spent waiting in lines actually enjoyable.

The mechanics of this game are a blast. It's a sensational turn based game..lots of RPG customization and even includes a small form of crafting..only thing to make this game better would be a HD version but plays great on our iPad.

This is a great well-balanced turn-based RPG. We don't understand the reviewer who complained about grinding. There is technically no grinding in this game – enemies disappear permanently once defeated and completed levels are not available for replay. So you only have a finite shot at gaining XP and so character upgrade strategy is very important if you want to beat the game (and the bonus level after the end credits). There isn't a lot of writing, but the dialogue is funny in its own way. This would have been a very acceptable PS2 game not so long ago; it's great to have this kind of gameplay on iOS.

Love it! Could use better writing/editing, but otherwise well done.

Thank you for the graphics improvements. The game now looks and play excellent.

Thank you and keep more great games coming.

This game we played years ago and loved it then. So based on our old feelings we love this game.

We were searching for "turn based RPG", trying to find something final fantasy-esque in a platform choking on action RPG's (despite the fact that the interface is never great for that genre). Rimelands came up, and it is definitely not the game we were looking for, but a game we are so glad we found! It's more in the D&D school of gaming, with dungeon crawling and dice-rolling. It is, however, delightfully turn-based and offers excellent gameplay, a good leveling up system, and a great experience. The story is great, if you compare it to it's IOS peers. Compared to the world at large, it's spotty. Enjoyable, but with plenty of gaps. Sometimes you jump from one thing to another with no logical gap, or someone will send you somewhere to do something (Loki Vault) and nothing in particular happens there, plus you don't circle back with the person who sent you. Still, better than its peers. The skill tree is great – small and manageable but full of desireable skills. And those skills, along with "mana" management, provide a great strategic challenge going into battles. Each conflict is a one-off, as you heal immediately after battle, which makes each confrontation exciting (as opposed to the long, drawn out battle of attrition you get in a long dungeon full of weak enemies). Despite the gaps – too many useless items, jumpiness in an otherwise good story, lack of multiple saves despite the inability to backtrack – this is an excellent game and a unique breath of fresh air in the cluttered mass of mediocrity one finds in the app store.

We didn't really care much for the story, nor for the levels. Nothing interesting really happens. Still it was worth what we paid for it.

This one should be 5 stars but the 'ending' and the possibility that you can get stuck in certain areas with no hope of winning the battle leaves this well designed game in the 'frustrated' folder. Don't get us wrong, it's a very good game, lots of fun … But after battling thru many many bad guys you sometimes end up in a dungeon with no way out and your uber character no match for the boss. Sad … If we had more than one save slot, this dungeon dilemma would be solved. Tactically you MUST go ranged weapons not magic. (made a flamethrower from blueprint, cool) we have tried many characters but the only way to 'beat' the game is to max out your ranged weapons as 'young' magic characters just die to easily making it near impossible to develop a winning Mage character. Still worth the price of admission, but a lot of folks are going to go feel ripped off with no definitive ending to the game and the 'do overs' because of the lack of save slots. Sad, but only 4 stars … Robert9001.

So we said we wasn't gona buy till went on sale but it looked so fin we couldn't help ourselves. We bought it and man was it a blast! RAre items the whole deal! Beat it very fast though and the 2 vaults after credits can't be completed? All in all great game, loved the freshness of it.still to short a game for 5 bucks though , add more please.

We would love to see game center support.

We're not terribly impressed by this game. It has all the usual RPG elements but it just seems to miss the mark somehow. The in-app help is practically useless for explaining the on-screen buttons and the whole building/dismantling shenanigans. The dice element is unique (for iOS RPG) but it doesn't add much to the game. Lastly, the challenge seems minimal since you can perpetually step back from battles and rest to recover. Occasionally it locks you into a battle, but not often. So, overall we're just "meh" on this.

Okay, visually this game is decent on the iPhone, but on the iPad it looks pretty poor. The turn-based combat system IS VERY COOL and the crafting and items are creative, but the story and general grinding are tedious. We do appreciate the challenging fights and strategy is involved. Our biggest complaint however is the single "auto" save feature. We've gotten into dungeons twice that you have to complete (we.e., you can't backtrack) and if you're too low on potions, or outclassed there's not escape; this wouldn't be a problem with game with multiple saves where you could just go back a save or two, but with the one autosave you're trapped and thus have to start the whole game over. Rather ruins a grand adventure.

The game looks great and is really fun for a while. However once you get well into it, it reaches a point where it's just too hard to be any fun anymore. If there was a way to go back and level up to del with the difficult parts this wouldn't so bad, but this game is so linear that you can't even do this.

Our thoughts pretty much echo those of the other reviewers, including the increasing difficulty of the game as you progress, but we do have one other point that we'd like to add: The interface in the iPad version of the game appears to just be scaled-up from the iPhone version, because the interface elements appear to be too small for an iPad game.

We are rather disappointed with this game. So far it looks very little like the screenshots above. We got it for a buck though so no big deal…just disappointed.

We really appreciate the amount of polish everything from the illustrations to the story is very imaginative, we like the isometric viewpoint and the turn based D&D die gameplay and the steampunk theme. To us it feels like a finished and complete rpg experience. We like it.

This is the 2nd edit of our original review. To all those still not getting the bug fix, we found we had to uninstall and reinstall the app and then we finally got the cut scene and the extra levels. It means losing your saved games but it's what you have to do. For those who are new. Game has great graphics and an interesting story line. ( now finally wrapped up.) The dice mechanic for combat works well and the classes are well balanced. Do all the side quests to get xp for your character. The developers are Scandinavian: we think there are a few jokes about the Finns that don't translate.

Really awesome turn based dice rpg, pretty, plays on 3G well, surprisingly deep system, not awful plot, and steampunk-y to boot! 5/5.

Awesome game! Great gameplay and mechanics. Such a steal for a universal app! Looks great on both iPhone 4 and the iPad.

Looks great with the recent Retina update. And even though we're not a big RPG player, we like the dice mechanic. (we'll admit we're worried it will fail at the end as so many have reported!).

We thought the combat system was interesting and fun, we would like to see it used in additional games, whether they be sequels to the first sotry, or even a completely different setting. The balance of the game was pretty good, although near the end it started to get a little too easy to beat the enemies. Given that there is little opportunity for grining up extra XP, we suppose this is better than having the later combats be frustratingly difficult and not be able to do anything about it we really wish there had been a map to see where you have been in the current level. Some were quite linear, but others had numerous side passages and a nice map that got filled in as you explored would have helped a bit. The ideas in the story were good, but marred by typos and other problems in the writing. The gameplay more than made up for this, but a little polish on the writing would have earned another star. Overall it was a very enjoyable RPG and we hope the developer creates some sequels.

Lives up to most of the hype. Reviews around the web are fair. Bug in the current version we've found is shaman spell "freeze" does not work. Might be broken interaction with an accessory our toon is wearing. Looking forward to the game being fixed, as well as a sequel.

When it runs, this game is probably the most beautiful one we've seen for iOS. The story and character progression are excellent – by far our favorite action RPG experience for this platform; a bargain at twice the price. However … It's significantly marred by crashes on start, glitches that prevent completion of the game, etc. After the most current update, we decided to start over from scratch and give it another shot – unfortunately, it's crashed on us 10 times in a row while trying to start a new game. Haven't even managed to get it to load successfully once yet. We have to conclude a complete lack of QA process, or perhaps the devs are doing all their testing in the iOS simulator or using a different version than the rest of us … Whatever the reason, this is one of the best games we've ever played on iOS – when we can play it, that is.

Game crashes after the intro on our iPad every time.

If the developers publish an app that can't sense the orientation of your device you have to wonder about everything else concerning the game. Really? We have to reverse how we hold our iPad to play the game but the keyboard knows our locked orientation which means we have to flip the iPad over to type then back again? Big-time FAIL.

Still stuck on the plateau after the bug fix. :(.

This is a great RPG on the iPhone. We love the clever dice combat dynamic they designed and it makes the game unique and makes every battle more tense waiting for the dice to fall. It looks beautiful and plays very well. We have not completed the game and seen a game stopping final bug, but so far it has been bug free for us – it has never crashed over 10 hours of play. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new RPG on the iPhone.

Love the concept. Gameplay is fun and makes up for a light story.

This is one of the best RPG turn-based games we have played on the iPhone/iPad. We have tried many others: Cavern, 100 Rogues, Fargoal, Undercroft, Quest, Arkadoom, NetHack. While all those are good, this one really melds the graphics, gameplay, and the deeper-than-it-looks combat strategy all together. It is easy to play for 5 minutes or an hour at a time. The combat is quite deep, and the different characters really give a different sense of fighting. Even choosing different talents for the same character type changes gameplay. We don't get people saying the combat is an annoyance. They definitely don't get this game. The combat IS the game. The way you deal with the dice adds a great strategic element to the game – something a Dungeon Hunter game is lacking IMHO. We would ask for a map of the dungeon you're in and some type of quest markers – sometimes it's a little confusing when you come back to a game after a while. But overall this and their other game Aralon are fantastic – this company knows how to make interesting, quality RPGs in a variety of formats. Give us more updates and more maps please.

We love playing this game. Thanks for making a great turn-based dungeon crawler. One suggestion though, can you please move the dice rolls from directly on-top of the characters to just one side of the screen.

So far it is a great rpg. Best one we have played. We haven't played any of the ff series because thy are all to expensive, but the ones we have played have pretty much stunk up to this point. Great game.

This game has great potential as a platform for expansions and additional games. Aside from a few bugs, the current game really hits a sweet spot for the iPhone: + Smooth user interface. + Excellent turn based combat system with varied tactical options. + Three fun character classes with interesting skill trees. + Lots of items to choose from to optimize your character's abilities. There is lots of room for future expansion including: + Multiple characters in a party would be great. + A less linear, less combat-centric adventure would be fun. + Those two things would allow for more diverse skills to come into play; currently the three skill trees boil down to basically the same skills, in different order with different names. Hope to see more from Crescent Moon Games soon.

Best game on our iPod by far. We have beaten it twice! The dice-based turns are super cool. Everything is perfect, except as the other reviewers have said, there is no ending. So it's a little anti-climactic. As long as you know this going in, you will enjoy it. 5 stars when the bug is fixed. We posted a question on their facebook about it, and they've responded "It's a bug and it will be fixed in next patch which should be out after christmas.".

Was really enjoying this until the Reign base/stealth mechanic/insta-death part. Why stick on this mechanic so late? Why in a game where seeing where the enemies are sometimes is next to impossible, and you thus must rely on luck and multiple deaths to creep through a level? Bleah. Didn't have enough draw to keep us playing after that.

As others have mentioned, the games is un-winnable. The story is good, gameplay is fun, but without an ending this game is not worth more than $1 for sure and the dev upped the price. Speaking of the dev, this game is not maintained, the bug has been known for months and no fixes have been made. It is unclear if the dev cares about this app at all and apple should consider yanking it from the iTunes store.

Great concept, compelling opening sequence, great gameplay, BUT IT IS NOT FINISHED. As you progress through the game, the story becomes sparse, rushed and sloppy. The dialogue starts mocking itself. None of the plot elements introduced in the first chapters are ever resolved. However, the worst part is getting to the final scene only to find out… There is no ending! The game simply strands the player in a level with no exit and nothing to do. This is clearly the result of a game company that ran out of money before finishing their product and released a partial game to recoup their losses. Very disappointing for a game which showed so much promise.

It was alittle slow to start, but we are really getting into it now. The combat is really fun. Wish the dungeons had maps. And wish the d pad arrows were closer together to make it less awkward to control. The new update fixed the bug that made us stuck. Yay! Have to get back into it again.
